Mosun Filani narrates how police allegedly snatched her brother from her with a bullet 10 years ago

Nollywood actress Mosunmola Filani Oduoye has joined others in narrating how policemen allegedly shot and killed a family member.

In Filani’s case, her younger brother, Olatunbosun Filani, was allegedly murdered by police officers in Abeokuta, Ogun state in 2010.

According to Mosunmola, she had to search for his corpse from one mortuary to the other.

After 10 years of his demise, Filani is yet to know what led to his death and who shot him.

Posting a photo of her late brother, she wrote; ”Nigeria failed u in 2010, my sweet brother. U were 25years old then.

”Officers from eleweran/obantoko Abeokuta killed u on Friday evening, but we were notified on Sunday morning. We don’t have the full details of what happened or how it happened till date.

”We went to both station, but we were treated like criminals, and chased away. I was able to locate ur corpse thru the help of a big area brother back then… We went to all the mortuaries in Abeokuta one after the other tipping them to let me search thru their abandoned corpses by police.

”When I found u at ijaiye state hospital u were naked and dead but ur hand was still on ur stomach where u were shot and I could see the bullet hole. I shouted, rolled on the muddy floor, I sat amongst the many corpses and held u, my handsome brother before I was dragged away.

”They never wanted us to locate ur corpse at all.

”But today We Nigerians are saying NO MORE!!!

”RIP OLATUBOSUN OLUWATOSIN FILANI. POLICE KILLED U IN 2010. #endsars #endpolicebrutality #endunlawfulkillings

#EndSARS: How Chijioke’s dad swam in river of dead bodies to identify his son ― Lady narrates ordeal

A lady has narrated how Chijioke Iloanya’s father swam in a river of dead bodies to identify his son.

At the candle night demonstration for fallen heroes of the #EndSARS protest, a lady recounted how Chijioka was arrested SARS.

She said: “Chijioke was 20 years old in 2012, he went for child dedication and was picked up there and was allegedly taken to SARS office.

“When his family went to look for him, they were told he has been taken to the headquarters. When they got there, His mother spotted him being taken to the station and she said that is my child.

“The officer in charge of that station asked them to boot her and the family out of the premises. Since then they haven’t seen Chijioke.

“The next time they went, the officer boasted that he shot Chijioke and there is nothing anyone can do about it. Some other officers told the parents that it is possible ha hadn’t died that the man (officer in charge) could just be bluffing and that they should bring some money to bring him.

“The father brought some money and the officer said the money was too small. The father went, sold his land, sold some properties, raised N3 million, gave it to the man and the man said N3 million was ‘chicken change’.

“The most horrifying part of this story, that man in charge, made Chijioke’s dad look for Chijioke’s body in the river of dead bodies; he made him turned every single corpse upside down searching for his son.

I cannot imagine what that man was going through. One part of him would think let me find this body so that we can have closure. Another part of him would think let me not find this body so that we can have hope.

“This is the impunity of which officers have treated us. They came to Abuja to seek justice. The State CID told them they will have to pay money to transport others down to the state where it happened. We have no system. We cannot get tired…,” she narrated.

Nigerians blast Lilian Afegbai after joining ENDSARS protest... says your mom killed a UNIBEN student

Nollywood Actress, Lilian Afegbai and her mother, Carol Onyekachi Afegbai, are been dragged on social media.

This comes after teh actress joined the pritest yesterday demanding an end to SARS.

Soon as her photos hit the internet, Nigerians asked if her mother was Carol Afebai, then told her she can''t be protesting if her mom is actually a 'killer'.

Many tweets pointed accusing fingers at her mom saying she allegedly killed Momodu Ibrahim, a student of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) in 2013.

They have now called on the the Federal Government and the Nigeria Police to arrest and probe Carol -- a senior police officer.

As at 9:00am on Saturday, tweets about Carol Afebai have exceeded 55,000.

Twitter users have announced plan to start an online petition to get signatories to demand her prosecution.

However Daily Post has this to ADD;

In June 2013, the Edo Political Forum (EPF) urged the then Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, to investigate the murder of Ibrahim.

They protested that Ibrahim was murdered “animalistically by CSP Carol Onyekachi Afegbai, the Divisional Police officer (DPO) of Ogida Police Station in Edo State”.

The body, in a petition signed by Emmy Uwangue, said the then Commissioner of Police (CP) alleged that the young man was an armed robber.

They accused him of “relying on the mendacious information that was given by the She-devil DPO”.

The petitioners quoted the CP as saying that the student was “a bus driver and that a cut-to-size gun was found on the young man after he was shot just about 100 meters from his family’s house where he resided before Afegbai killed him.”

EPF called Afegbai “the first daughter of the devil”.

They noted that she claimed having a nightmare the day before the incident in which she personally killed two armed robbers.

“Carol Afegbai led out a team on May 27 looking for two imaginary armed robbers to kill, saying that her dreams always come true.”

The forum decried that Momodu was hurriedly buried on May 28 without the consent of the family or any close relative.

“How can you kill an innocent boy and bury him, this is another Clifford Orji in Edo State as killer DPO Carol Onyekachi Afegbai,” the petition said.

EPF demanded that Afegbai be dismissed and be “tried for murder for killing innocent persons, and be investigated properly about the source of her stupendous wealth”.

Since then, nothing has been heard of the case. The Police has not provide any update yet, Daily post reports.

Why I didn’t sleep with a man in BBNaija , Nengi reveals

Big Brother Naija finalist, Rebecca Nengi Hampson, has opened on her relationship with men in the lockdown house.

Speaking in an interview, Nengi revealed that she had her reason for not sleeping on any man’s bed regardless of their closeness.

The former beauty queen who hails from Bayelsa State stated that although she was very close to some of the guys in the lockdown house like Ozo, she set boundaries right from the start of the reality show and according to her, she wanted too correct a misconception many had about her.

“The housemates felt I wanted every guy and that is crazy. How could I want every guy and still not be with anybody in the house? I never slept on any man’s bed. Even as close as me and Ozo were, I still tried to set a boundary. I could play with people but for me, there would always be boundaries and nobody can cross them.

However, people took it the wrong way. They felt since I played with the guys, I must have wanted them. That was the biggest misconception people had about me. As a matter of fact, that was one of the reasons I went for Big Brother in the first place. I wanted to correct the misconception that I was just a fine face. And I feel I corrected that notion,”

“We are from two totally different backgrounds and that was it for me. I also knew he would always accept me for who I am. He knows who I am and does not judge me based on mistakes I have made.”

ASUU denies suspending seven months strike, says it's still on

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has denied the report that it suspended its seven-month old ongoing strike, after meeting Federal Government on Thursday.

According to the union, the said report is a blatant falsehood.

The union said its negotiations with the federal government officials over all their differences with a view to finding a workable solution for normalcy to return to the nation’s public university were still ongoing in Abuja, the federal capital territory.

In addition, the union said reports on social media platforms that the Federal Government had released N30 billion for Earned Academic Allowance (EAA) is not also true and therefore should be disregarded by the public.

The Lagos zonal coordinator of ASUU, who is a lecturer at the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Profesor Olusiji Sowande, told Nigerian Tribune that he was not aware of such strike suspension, noting that suspension or calling off of industrial action by ASUU had a procedure.

The chairman of ASUU at University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka, Dr Dele Ashiru, also said it was only the National Executive Council (NEC) of the union that had the constitutional power to suspend or call off the strike which must also be subjected to the congress.

According to him, the ASUU president had no unilateral power to suspend or call off strike as the occupier of the office was not the one (but the congress) that declared the strike in the first instance.

“So, ASUU is not Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) that goes to meetings and takes decisions that concern all members right at the venue of the meeting without tabling such before the NEC, let alone the congress, “ he stressed.

Ashiru explained further that whatever the Federal Government put on the negotiation table with ASUU representatives at the meeting would still be referred to the congress of the various branches before final decision would be taken.

Delta women protest against Regina Daniels' husband, Ned Nwoko for forcefully taking over their lands

Women of Idumuje-Ugboko community under Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State on Wednesday protested against Nigerian billionaire and former federal lawmakers, Ned Nwoko, accusing him of tormenting indigenes and incarcerating their husbands, relatives and sons.

Nwoko is being accused of forcefully taking over several hectares of land belonging to members of the community.

The protesting women of various ages under the umbrella of Concerned Women of Idumuje-Ugboko, were armed with placards bearing different inscriptions while storming the Delta State Government House, Asaba, the capital, to register their grievances.

The women, who accused Nwoko of promoting the insecurity in the town, disclosed that their husbands, sons and relatives were being incarcerated in Abuja on the orders of the Nigerian billionaire.

The protesting women also accused the local government council chairman of working for Nwoko by "legitimising illegality through issuance of customary rights of occupancy on lands under customary dispute and legal litigation”.

In a petition to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, women of the community alleged that Nwoko forcefully dispossessed farmers of their ancestral land for private commercial ventures.

Addressing the two groups of women separately, the state’s Commissioner for Women Affairs, Social and Community Development, Florence Alatan, assured them that their grievances would be addressed by the state government so as to find a lasting solution to all issues raised.

Mourinho shades Arsene Wenger again over his autobiography

Jose Mourinho has again thrown a subtle jibe at former Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger. He said the French manager did not mention him in his autobiography “because he never beat me”.

Wenger earlier in the week released a new autobiography called, ‘My Life in Red and White’, but the exclusion of his former foe, Mourinho, has not gone unnoticed.

During Mourinho’s weekly press conference when asked why he was not mentioned in the book, the Tottenham boss Mourinho said: “Because he never beat me.

“You are not going to do a chapter about 12 or 14 matches and never winning one.

“So why should he speak about me in his book? A book is a thing to make you happy to make you proud. So I understand perfectly the situation.”

Both managers were bitter rivals while they managed Chelsea and Arsenal respectively. Mourinho, however, always had the upper hand whenever the two were at loggerheads.

Anonymous hackers shut down CBN's website

Anonymous hacking group has shut down the website of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

It was the third cyber asset of the Nigerian government to be hit by the group, which declared it was sympathising with #EndSARS protesters in Nigeria.

The apex bank website was unreachable on Friday night, as it repeatedly gave ‘server error.”

“500 – Internal server error. There is a problem with the resource you are looking for, and it cannot be displayed”, was the response loggers got.

Previously, Anonymous seized the Twitter account of the National Broadcasting Commission and posted series of messages, derisive of government, but supportive of the protesters.

It said it’s out to “expose government’s secrets & dirtyfiles”.

17 students test positive for covid-19 in Kaduna University

Due to fear of spreading Covid-19 on campus ,the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) Kaduna State University (KASU) chapter has cautioned  against the university management’s plan to reopen the school.

Like other institutions in the state, KASU has been shut for several months due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

However, ASUU-KASU chapter said it is not yet safe to reopen the institution because of the fear that students might contract the virus as they will mingle freely among themselves during school hours.

Chairman of ASUU-KASU,Comrade Tukur Abdulkadir said that some weeks ago, 17 out of about 50 Medical students who were recalled for examination tested positive to Covid-19.

“As you are aware, the management of Kaduna State University has opened the university and plans to conduct examination beginning from Monday, 19th of October, 2020.

“To this moment, Kaduna State Government has not officially announced the re-opening of tertiary institutions. Although the 2019/2020 academic session has been significantly affected by Covid-19 lockdown, re-opening the university at this material time is tantamount to trading the lives of students and staff for the conduct of the examination'', Tukur said.

''We could have moved faster, for this we are sorry'', Osinbajo apologises to Nigerian youths

Vice President Professor Yemi Osinbajo has apologised to Nigerian youths as the  #ENDSARS, #ENDSWAT protests continues across the Nation.

The Vice-President tendered his apologises in a series of tweets while acknowledging the brutality of some members of the now disestablished Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) unit of the police, which he described as unacceptable.

His tweet started thus: “Dear Nigerians, I know that many of you are angry, and understandably so. We could’ve moved faster and for this we are sorry.

“I fully understand how many young people feel. Many feel that we have been too silent and have simply not done enough. These feelings of frustration are justified.

“There are far too many people who have been brutalised at the hands of the police and this is unacceptable. We must take responsibility for protecting young people, even sometimes from those who are paid to protect them.

“Over the past week, we have been following the protests, and I have had a number of discussions with key people in the administration that you deserve to be informed about. Transparency, after all, is a key tenet of government.

“Several meetings have been held with: the @SPLawan @femigbaja, the Chief of Staff to @MuhammaduBuhari, Chairman of the @PoliceServiceC2, the IG of @PoliceNG (IGP), the Executive Secretary of @NHRCNigeria , and governors.

“We understand that you want to see action from us and I’m here to tell you that work is ongoing. I chaired a meeting of 36 state governors and the Minister of the FCT (NEC), where we resolved to set up judicial panels of inquiry so we can see justice served, and fast.

“The reason being that only state governors, by law, can set up judicial inquiries in their states. The hearings will be public.

“With Mr. President’s approval, SARS has been completely disestablished, and none of its former members will feature in any police tactical units.

“I am sending my deepest condolences to the families of Jimoh Isiaq, and all those who have lost their lives at the hands of wayward police officers. To those injured, I wish a full and speedy recovery.

“We have proposed that each state government set up a Victims’ Support Fund, which @NigeriaGov will support. This is the least that we can do to compensate for the injustice suffered at the hands of errant officers.

“We also understand that the issues that you’re raising are bigger than just SARS. They’re deep and systemic and we’re undertaking comprehensive measures that will revamp the police by addressing issues of welfare, service conditions and training.

“On Monday, Mr President also reiterated his commitment to these extensive police reforms.

“We will continue to update and engage with you all on these action steps and the ones to come, in the spirit of transparency, so that you can hold us accountable. We are, after all, here to serve you and we owe you a duty to win back your trust. Keep safe. God bless you. – YO”.

Panic as 30 suspects escape SARS detention facility in Lagos

Pandemonium erupted on Wednesday at the disbanded Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) office of the Lagos State Police Command when 30 out of the 250 detainees broke out of their cells and escaped.

This was contrary to claims by the state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, that the command had transferred all suspects to the detention facility of the State Criminal and Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Panti, Yaba, Thisdaylive.com reports.

The CP had on Wednesday night through the Police Spokesman, SP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, issued a statement that suspects in all tactical squads under the command had been transferred to Panti.

But earlier that day, escaped suspects, who were arrested on grounds of armed robbery, kidnapping and murder, were said to have lured the station officer (SO) on duty to open the overcrowded facility.

The suspects were screaming at the top of their voices that they were in danger, and this lured the SO to open their cell and he was quickly overpowered by the detainees, who badly manhandled him.

THISDAY gathered that there was inadequate number of policemen at the squad complex to nab the escaping suspects because the former SARS operatives were on standby, waiting for instructions concerning their deployment.

With their withdrawal from duty, few mobile policemen were deployed to SARS building at the command to watch over the detention facility.

Having trooped out of their cells, some of the detainees invaded different offices and escaped with laptops and even some weapons like machetes recovered as exhibits, which they used to attack the few mobile policemen that tried to stop them.

Though the mobile policemen opened fire into the air to stop them in their tracks, about 30 of them escaped while the others were successfully rounded up.

Explaining why the compact SARS facility had such number of detainees, a police source blamed it on the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to him, because of the pandemic, the correctional centres in Lagos refused to accept new inmates over fear of spread.

The correctional centres were said to have insisted that the police take them for COVID-19 test before they can be admitted into the detention facility of the centre.

Given that the cost of the COVID-19 test would be borne by the command, the police opted to get a remand order and detain the suspects in SARS cell.

But debunking the allegation that the suspects escaped, the spokesman of the Lagos State Police Command, SP Muyiwa Adejobi said the information was mischievous and false.

He said: “The attention of the Lagos State Command has been drawn to a rumour making waves on the social media that some suspects of the disbanded SARS escaped from the cell at the Command Headquarters, Ikeja, Lagos State on Wednesday.

“The command perceives such rumour as unfounded, mischievous and baseless. It is an attempt to cause fear and panic in the minds of Lagosians, and distracting the command.

“In line with the directive of the IG, SCIID, has taken over the disbanded SARS and other tactical units’ buildings in Ikeja and other satellite offices across the state, including the suspects.

“It’s pertinent to state that some of the suspects, who have been convicted, have undergone COVID-19 test which is a prerequisite to accepting them into correctional centres; but the command awaits their results before further actions.

“The suspects in all the cases handled by the disbanded SARS are intact. The DCP Yetunde Longe, has temporarily relocated to the disbanded SARS building at Ikeja for thorough supervision and accountability of the taking over process.

“The command therefore urges the general public to regard the news as a rumour, baseless and mischievous to suit the intention of the originator(s) as the command is committed to reforming the policing system and providing adequate security for all in the state.”
