Man dangles from 98-storey Trump Tower by rope 'demanding to speak to US President'

A man is dangling from Chicago's Trump International Hotel and Tower by a rope.

He is said to be threatening suicide if he is not able to speak to US President Donald Trump and the media, according to local press.

The man, described as being of Asian ethnicity, is reported to be armed with a knife and prepared to cut through the rope if his demands are not met.

He is dangling from the 16th floor balcony of the 98-storey building, with a witness saying he has been there since around 6pm - with Chicago six hours behind the UK.

A SWAT team and Marine Unit are understood to be at the scene, with police on the balcony above the man.

Photos and video footage show the man hanging in an abseiling position in line with the word 'Trump' in the building name.

An eyewitness, aged 29, told the Mirror Online: "A man is currently hanging off the side of the tower.

"There are police on top of the tower and in boats on the river. Not sure how he got up there but has been there over an hour.

"There are some reports saying he is threatening suicide if he doesn’t speak to POTUS."

He added: "There was a large crowd both above and below the bridge, but people kind of faded away as the sunset."

Oshoala celebrates first goal of season with #EndSARS fist

Super Falcons captain Asisat Oshoala celebrated her first goal in the 2020-21 Spanish Primera Iberdrola campaign with a fist showing her support for the ongoing #EndSARS protests in Nigeria.

The Barcelona attacker opened scoring this season against Sporting Huelva.

Just five minutes into the game, Oshoala broke the deadlock.

The game ended 6-0 in favour of Barcelona.

After scoring, Oshoala raised her right hand, bent her fingers towards the palm, and held them tightly.

She subsequently tweeted the picture, indicating her support for the #EndSARS campaign.

The reigning African Women’s Player of the Year was replaced in the 68th minute.

“You already know the vibes, #EndSARS #EndPoliceBrutalityInNigeria #3pts @FCBfemeni,” she tweeted after the match.

On Saturday, Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen offered support to protesters against police brutality in Nigeria after he scored his first Serie A goal of the season in Napoli’s 4-1 thumping of Atalanta on Saturday.

Thousands of people have taken to the streets of Lagos, Oyo, Abuja, and other states in the country over the past week to protest against police brutality.

Osimhen, who had fired blanks in his first two league games, scored in the 43rd minute after a brace from Hirving Lozano and a strike from Matteo Politano to put Napoli into a four-goal lead before the break.

After scoring the goal, Osimhen held up a shirt with the inscription “#End Police Brutality in Nigeria” to celebrate his goal.

The 21-year-old also tweeted after the game, “Having accomplished all I thought was impossible for me through GOD, now I know better, time for some limitless goals and desire. GOD is the greatest. We move.”

DStv, GOtv undergoing upgrade, not hacked – Official

MultiChoice says claims circulating on social media that its entertainment platforms – DStv and GOtv- have been hacked was not true.

A representative of the company who pleaded anonymity told The Punch on Sunday.

It was gathered that the Pay-TV company was upgrading its system and had informed its subscribers via text messages last week.

The company told its subscribers that its services would be offline as it would be upgrading its system from 11pm on October 17 to 4pm on October 19, 2020.

The representative said all the stations were made available in order not to deny subscribers access to its services as its payment and self-service platforms would be inaccessible during the period of the upgrade.

3 die, 19 injured in Niger road accident

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Niger has confirmed the death of three persons in an accident that occurred on Mokwa-Jebba road on Sunday.

Mr Joel Dagwa, the state’s FRSC Commander, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Minna on Sunday that 19 other persons got various degrees of injuries.

He said that the accident, which occurred at about 3.00 pm at Tsafa village, involved a Mazda bus and an articulated vehicle.

He said that the victims were rescued to General hospital, Mokwa, where the doctor confirmed three dead and the corpses deposited at the Federal Medical Centre, Bida, morgue.

He explained that the truck was conveying empty baskets from Kano to Lagos while the bus took off from Oyo State en route to Kano.

The sector commander advised motorists to exercise caution and adhere strictly to speed limits to avoid crashes.

He blamed the accident on speed violations and loss of control.

The sector commander said that the Corps would continue to monitor road users to guard against dangerous driving.

“We will continue to sustain our aggressive patrols across all major highways to ensure that road users adhere strictly to traffic rules and regulations to avoid road accidents,” he said.

Four #EndSARS protesters crushed to death, others injured in Edo

Four persons were reportedly crushed to death in Benin, Edo State in the wee hours of Sunday, when a Sport Utility Vehicle ran into a group of protesters who slept on the road.

Four others who sustained serious injuries were said to have been rushed to the State Specialist Hospital for treatment.

The protesters were said to have set bonfire on the road and slept beside it, when the vehicle ran into them.

According to a report monitored on a local radio station, the incident occurred along 2nd East Circular Road, by Uwa Junction.

The driver of the vehicle was said to have abandoned it at the spot and fled from the scene of the incident.

Effort to get a reaction from the state police command spokesman, SP Chidi Nwabuzor failed, as calls made to his mobile phone went unanswered.

Meanwhile, the entire city seem to be in chaos as protesters set bonfires at various spots.

Also, all entry points into the city are blocked by the protesters, causing untold hardship to travellers who have to connect their various routes through the city.

Intra- city transportation was also halted, causing commuters much agony, as they have to walk long distances to their respective destinations.

The ever busy Benin/Abuja highway was blocked after the by-pass, while Benin/Agbor road was blocked at Police road Junction.

A commuter who was returning to Benin from Abuja told our correspondent that his vehicle remained static at Egba Junction for over three hours.

Other places like Agbor Park, Rammat Park, Okhoro road and Medical Store road junctions were also blocked with bonfires by the protesters.

The Ugbowo aixs of the city and Ekehuan road were also not left out.

The protesters who apparently slept on the Ekehuan road, made fires on the road with which they cooked their foods.

One of the protesting youths, Collins Omorogie, said their protest is not only against the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), but against injustice meted on Nigerians by the government.

“The injustice in the three arms of our government and many more are what we are protesting against today in the strongest term.

“We are saying no to corruption; we are saying no to nepotism; we are saying no to embezzlement; we are saying no to quack leadership.

“Part of this protest is reformation of our police. There are also government agencies, parastatals that need total reform. But most importantly we are protesting and demanding for a total restructuring of the country.

“We need a government that is free from corruption. We need a government that will say no to embezzlement. We need a government that will say no to nepotism,” he said.

Kano couple plots own kidnap for N4m ransom, caught

A couple, Ado Aminu and his wife, Samira Abdullahi, have been arrested in Sheka Quarters, Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State, for arranging own kidnapping to demand for a ransom of N4 million from their relatives.

An accomplice, Anas Isah, was also arrested in connection with the planned kidnapping.

The spokesman of Kano State Police Command, DSP Abdullahi Haruna, who confirmed the arrest, said the husband, Ado conspired with his wife, Samira and used Anas to carry out the planned kidnap and demand for the ransom.

DSP Haruna said the accomplice, Anas, revealed the plot when he was arrested.

According to him, “In September, one Samira Abdullahi, 31, of Sheka Quarters, Kumbotso council, Kano State, reported that her husband one Ado Aminu, 52, of the same address, was kidnapped and a ransom of N4,000,000 demanded.

“The command’s Commissioner, Habu A. Sani, immediately raised and directed a team of Operation Puff-Adder to arrest the culprits in 24 hours.

“The suspect, one Anas Isah Musa, 32, of Sheka Gidan Leda Quarters, Kumbotso council, was arrested on the same date.

“During investigation, the suspect confessed that the kidnapped victim conspired with his wife Samira Abdullahi, planned the kidnapping and used him (Anas Isah) to demand ransom from his relatives.

“Suspects were arrested and charged to court for prosecution.”

Haruna also said the command succeeded in arresting eight other kidnap suspects, including a serial kidnapper, who confessed to have kidnapped one Aisha Usman, 60, of Bauna Village, Rano Council, Kano State, in August.

“Efforts are on to arrest other members of their syndicate,” DSP Haruna said.

West Ham fight from three goals down to seal 3-3 draw with Spurs

Manuel Lanzini’s last-gasp stunner sealed a remarkable comeback from West Ham to earn a 3-3 draw against Tottenham in a thrilling London derby on Sunday.

Jose Mourinho’s men were in complete control from the moment Son Heung-min opened the scoring inside a minute, with Harry Kane’s quickfire double seemingly confirming the victory after only 16 minutes.

However, Fabian Balbuena’s header and a Davinson Sanchez own goal set up a nervy finish, and Lanzini’s incredible strike secured a point for the visitors at the death, putting a huge dampener on Gareth Bale’s Spurs return.

Back in the dugout for the first time since testing positive for coronavirus in late September, West Ham boss David Moyes would have hoped to see his team build on the two convincing Premier League wins earned in his absence.

Instead, the Hammers lasted just 45 seconds before conceding, Kane dropping into midfield before clipping the ball over the top for Son, who cut inside Balbuena with ease to dispatch a low shot into the far corner.

Things went from bad to worse shortly after, as Kane nutmegged Declan Rice at the edge of the box before sending a shot through the legs of Angelo Ogbonna and beyond a helpless Lukasz Fabianski.

And, while the visitors had a couple of promising moments in the aftermath of that second goal through the industrious Michail Antonio, they simply could not keep Spurs at bay at the other end.

Consequently, they were 3-0 down after 16 minutes, Kane grabbing his second with a powerful header from Sergio Reguilon’s cross to the back post.

To their credit, West Ham attempted to produce a positive response to an opening quarter of an hour that had all but ended their hopes of taking anything from the game, but any potential openings they worked were often wasted, while Tottenham continued to look dangerous on the counter.

Even when the visitors did manage to finally create, they were wasteful, not least when Pablo Fornals somehow contrived to head a deflected Antonio cross over from close range shortly after the restart.

For their part, Spurs looked understandably happy to simply sit on their lead and attempt to manage the opposition threat, with counter-attacks their main source of chances in the second period.

And it was one such quick break that almost led to Kane grabbing his hat-trick, the England striker clattering the post 10 minutes from time with a fine left-footed effort from distance.

Spurs brought on Bale but his second debut did not end how he would have hoped, as there proved to be a sting in the tail for the hosts.

Their grip on the game seemed to loosen when Balbuena headed in from a dangerous free-kick delivery from the left wing and that was quickly followed by Sanchez’s own goal, the defender inadvertently heading Vladimir Coufal’s cross beyond Hugo Lloris in the Spurs net.

And, after Bale has missed a glorious opening, Lanzini completed the comeback in the fourth minute of injury time as he smashed a marvellous long-range effort beyond a despairing Lloris to make it 3-3.

NECO reschedules exams over #ENDSARS protests

The National Examination Council(NECO) has been forced to reschedule Paper I Computer Studies Practical’s scheduled to take place on Monday 19 October 2020 to November 16

In a statement by the Head, Information and Public Relations Division, NECO, Azeez Sani, the council blamed the decision on the #ENDSARS protests that blocked the free movement of transport at the entrance gate into Benin City, the Edo state capital.

The statement reads: “This is to inform the general public and especially candidates that the National Examinations Council (NECO) has been constrained to reschedule the Paper I Computer Studies Practical’s earlier scheduled to take place on Monday 19 October 2020, 10 am to 1 pm. The examination of this paper will now hold on Monday 16 November 2020, 10 am-1 pm.

”This unforeseen incident has been caused by the ENDSARS protest that blocked the free movement of transport at the City entrance gate Benin.

“The NECO delivery truck had left its take-off point well in advance two days earlier to deliver examination materials to some states and has been held up in the blockage since then.

“The Council wishes to assure all stakeholders and the general public that the affected examination materials have been retrieved intact and are in the custody of NECO’s vault.

Family of boy hit with a £10,000 Covid fine for hosting house party refuse to pay, as they say overflow were gatecrashers

A family of an 18-year-old boy hit with a £10,000 Covid fine for hosting a house party while his parents were away have refused to pay the penalty.

Police say they found between 80 to 100 people at the house party in Wiltshire, last month.

The boy claims he had only invited a small number of friends to the party but news of the event spread on social media and more revellers showed up.

His family have refused to pay the maximum £10,000 fine for their son flouting coronavirus restrictions.

They have blamed drunk gatecrashers for the numbers at the party and vow to take case to court.

Police were called to the house in Devizes, shortly before midnight on September 4.

Officers first requested for the event to be shut down and party-goers were warned to leave the property but their pleas were ignored.

As a result, the organiser was issued the hefty fine and party-goers were dispersed.

According to The Times, the family have filed a complaint to Wiltshire police and have instructed a solicitor.

The boy's father has vowed to take the case to the Supreme Court as they do not think their son should have to pay the penalty for other people crashing the party.

Speaking to the Wiltshire Gazette and Herald, he said: 'He was utterly stupid. He ignored our instructions and the government advice.

'He is very chastened. But they were gatecrashed.

'This is a completely new law. We have never had legal restrictions on the number of people in a house before.

'This could go to the Supreme Court as to whether you can legally impose a criminal penalty when the majority of people were gatecrashers.'

At the time the party was held, on September 4, gatherings of up to 30 people were permitted to take place indoors.

Reactions as Manchester City striker, Sergio Aguero grabs female referee's neck

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero grabs a female assistant referee around the back of the neck during a dispute over a throw-in.

The Argentinian forward is seen putting his left on on Sian Massey-Ellis during last night's 1-0 win over Arsenal.

Today it has been revealed that the striker will not be punished for the incident, which has prompted anger from those in football, as well as sports writers and an MP.

Meanwhile City manager Pep Guardiola defended his player, insisting the striker’s action was clearly not aggressive.

He said: ‘Come on guys, Sergio is the nicest person I have met in my life. Look for problems in other situations, not in this one.’

Though Guardiola leapt to the defence of his player, Ian Wright, speaking on Match of the Day was less impressed, and branded Aguero's actions 'unnecessary' and 'patronising'.

Aguero was certainly taking a chance. Chris Foy, the former Premier League referee, said: ‘The key words are “aggressive” and “confrontational.” The laws state, “it’s not unusual for players to come into contact with officials.

'As long as this is done courteously and not in an aggressive or confrontational manner there is no requirement for a referee to take action”.’

Others on Twitter also reacted, included Good Morning Britain presenter and Arsenal fan Piers Morgan, who said: 'Erm, what is Aguero doing here? And why wasn’t he sent off for it?'

Sports and entertainment writer Kevin Palmer also tweeted about the incident, saying: 'We have not heard the last of this. Sergio Aguero out of order here.'

Others to tweet about it included Labour MP for Tooting, Dr Rosena Allin-Khan, who described his actions as 'completely unacceptable', while British singer Anne Marie added: 'Sorry but not sorry why is Sergio Aguero touching the lines woman like that! Ergh disgusting.'

The incident was also a talking point after the game on Sky Sports.

Genevieve Nnaji reveals personal experience with SARS

Since the #EndSars protests began Nollywood’s leading lady, Genevieve Nnaji has not kept quiet. While she has not made any physical outing anywhere she has made sure her voice was loud and clear.

First to feel her wrath is the governor of Rivers State Nyesome Wike who warned against any form of protest in his State. Next was President Muhhamadu Buhari, to whom she wrote an open letter which she posted on her Instagram page.

In the five paragraph letter, Genevieve gave an account of how she came to know of SARS and their unfriendly tactics.

“ My niece was harassed by SARS for carrying a laptop. Her own laptop. She was slapped across the face for simply asking why her laptop was being seized. At only 13, she had to deal with police brutality. Complaints were made and nothing was done. No one is spared and we are all affected,” she writes.

To the President, she continues, “ Mr President, this is the current state of your country. The stability of a nation is largely dependent on leadership. And every head of house has one chance to build their legacy. Sir, you have had two.

What our country is today is a reflection of your leadership, your legacy. I’m getting weary and tired of being optimistic about change but even then I can’t complain. I am one of the privileged few but that doesn’t mean that I get to give up now.”

Bishop Oyedepo backs #EndSARS protest, says enough is enough

Bishop David Oyedepo of Living Faith Church Worldwide, has joined the call for an end to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad.

Oyedepo, who spoke on Sunday at Canaan land, said that the youths have a right to express their displeasure and pains.

He said “We have been having spades of protests across the nation, Every man has a right, legitimately so to express their displeasure and pain, everybody does. Amen

“I kept quiet for a while because in 2015 I warned this nation vehemently consistently because I saw the danger ahead and you can tell. the most gruesome season in the history of this nation is the last 5 years, where lives have no value, quantum killing, now they have face the youth, and because they don’t know who is next, they have a right to say enough is enough.

“Any system that has no value for human-right is irrelevant, if they were killed when they were youths will they be where they are today? and now it would be a sacrilege to shoot the protesters who are not looting, who are not ravaging.

“When you push a goat to the wall then you will know that goats have teeth to bite.

Did Eyizogie Ogbebor just confirm her relationship with Mc Oluomo? [her outburst]

Interior designer and consultant, Ehizogie Ogbebor-Bramoh seems to have confirmed her relationship with NURTW lord, Mc Oluomo. When you read her shades and what she says about her happiness and finding love at a strange place, then you might just agree with us, that she is probably talking about their love relationship.

So news went out days ago that NURTW No 1 man in Lagos, Mc Oluomo and the beautiful mother of three are in a relationship, and now the Interior designer who is at the moment in Turkey has this to say

She took to social media -- Instagram precisely saying she is living her best live at the moment.

Showing herself and a group of friends dancing she said 'living my best life'.

In other posts she spoke about finding love, and how love could be strange, and how two adults can meet and just know they should be for each other. She also slammed blogs carrying her news, saying there are more important things to blog about such as ENDSARS.

To round it up. Do we say Jaywon bust the bubbles? Because when the news broke many said they found it difficult to believe. And then, Jaywon left Naija for İstanbul, Turkey and ran into Mc Oluomo. He shared the video and then....gbosa bubble busted lol.

She's in Turkey, Mc is in Turkey and now her 'confirmation'? No doubt, love is a beautiful thing!

Mc is married to three wives and has many adult children.

A Hausa song calling on the President to save the North also played in the background.

The song translates as “Please look at our condition. We need your help. The North is crying. There is insincerity. Our blood is being spilled. Our property is being destroyed. Intervene in our situation, baba.”

Aisha’s message to the President is coming at a time Nigerian youths are protesting across major cities in the country demanding an end to police brutality and killings -- ENDSARS.
