How can you announce a curfew for 4pm when people are already out... Toke Makinwa tackles Sanwo Olu

This has been the question on many lips especially since most roads are blocked.

The OAP joined Nigerians who questioned the timing, especially Lagosians who are already out for their daily activities.

Tackling the timing on twitter, the media personality wrote;

''The government, the sick system, how can you announce a curfew when people are already out? What happens to those who can't get home before 4? You'll give power back to the police we are fighting against? Make it make sense #EndSARS''

Study claims two-thirds of Covid-19 patients have lung damage

Nearly two-thirds of coronavirus hospital patients are still suffering organ damage months after being discharged, a small study has warned.

Oxford University experts found 60 per cent of patients had scarring or inflammation in their lungs three months after beating the virus.

MRI scans showed 30 per cent had lasting damage to their kidney, 26 per cent their heart and 10 per cent their liver. The Covid survivors also showed signs of tissue changes in parts of their brain, and performed poorer in cognitive and physical tests.

Two-thirds suffered from persistent breathlessness and 55 per cent showed signs of mental and physical fatigue.

The study of 58 Covid-19 survivors adds to the growing concern about the health and wellbeing of people who manage to beat a bad bout of the disease.

As many as 60,000 people in the UK are thought to be suffering from so-called 'Long Covid', which the NHS officially recognised as a condition earlier this month and began drawing up guidelines for doctors on how to treat it.

Eto'o slams Ballon d'Or over what he calls 'lack of respect'

Samuel Eto'o has hit out at France Football after the publication named him as a right-winger in its Ballon d'Or Dream Team.

]Eto'o carved out a legendary career for the likes of Inter, Barcelona, Chelsea and Mallorca while also establishing himself as Cameroon's all-time leading scorer and third-most capped player with 56 goals in 118 caps.

He won three La Liga and two Champions League titles while with Barcelona before then adding a Serie A winner's medal and yet another Champions League crown after joining Inter.

In total, Eto'o scored 371 goals across 764 career club appearances, being named to the UEFA Team of the Year in 2005 and 2006.

However, most of Eto'o's career achievements came while playing as a number nine, with the Cameroon star establishing himself as one of the best strikers in the sport's history

As a result, the 39-year-old former striker says that he felt disrespected by France Football's decision to classify him as a right-winger as part of its Ballon d'Or Dream team countdown.

"Thank you, but I played 1-2 seasons on the right (yet I have 25 years of career as a center forward)," Eto'o tweeted in response.

"The lack of respect. @francefootball WHATEVER!"

I won’t sign off 2021 budget without compensation for #ENDSARS victims, Gbajabiamila BLOWS HOT

Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila has vowed not to sign off the 2021 budget without adequate provision for compensation of victims of police brutality and demand of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

The Speaker described protesting youths across the country as midwives of national rebirth, saying their agitation has brought about a historical moment in the country.

Addressing his colleagues at Tuesday’s plenary, the Speaker said: “You (protesting youths) have moved a nation to action, and now you must join in doing the hard work of making real the vision of a more just, more prosperous, and more resilient nation.

“We see your true cause. Please do not allow your righteous cause to be hijacked by those with base motives, who see in this moment an opportunity to pursue vendettas, to spread division, exploit the many existing fissures that exist in our society and bring our nation to its knees.

“You have raised your voices and marched to demand a better Nigeria. From Abuja to Washington, to Calgary and London, your voices have been heard.

“Do not allow anybody to convince you that to withdraw from the streets now is to concede defeat.

“This is the time to move your agitation from the chaos of the streets to the painstaking deliberations and strategic partnerships that birth policy and produce legislation.

“It is time to mobilise your voices in support of specific policy interventions that will deliver on our shared objectives of national renewal and a country that reflects the best of us. I thank you, your country thanks you, and history will be kind to you.”

The Speaker said the time has come for the nation to reconsider the system of funding education, stating the current one is a great disservice to the nation.

Bride and groom pose for wedding photos on railway track

A newly-married couple unbelievably decided to pose for their wedding photos on live rail tracks.

The bridal couple were among a spate of trespassers on Britain's railways in recent months. Network Rail said more than 5,000 incidents were recorded between June and September.

The total of 1,239 in September alone was up 17% year-on-year, and the most for that month in the past five years.

Many cases involved people using the railways as a backdrop for photographs.

The bridal couple were caught on CCTV standing on rail tracks near Whitby, North Yorkshire, in July.

Hollyoaks actor Ellis Hollins was forced to apologise during the same month after posting images on social media from a photoshoot on the railway.

He admitted it was "irresponsible" and he was "careless to take part in such a dangerous situation".

Superintendent Alison Evans of BTP commented: "The railway is not an appropriate or safe setting for a photographic backdrop, no matter how scenic the setting.

"Every time someone strays onto the rail network they are not only putting themselves at risk of serious, life-threatening injury, but also delaying essential journeys."

Network Rail launched its You vs Train campaign in partnership with British Transport Police to highlight the issue of young people trespassing.

The number of incidents involving children at 51 targeted locations has fallen in each of the past two years.

Allan Spence, of Network Rail, said: "Wedding photos or selfies on the track are just plain stupidity.

"We often warn families at this time of year as kids enjoy school half term holidays but this time we are appealing to adults in particular.

"Please, make sure you know the rail safety basics and pass that knowledge onto your loved ones. Lead by example and stay off the tracks."

HM chief inspector of railways Ian Prosser said: "We keep seeing people take unnecessary risks around the railway and this behaviour could result in fatal or life-changing consequences.

"These new statistics showing the increase is truly worrying. The hidden dangers on the railway are real: each year hundreds take on the railway and lose and their actions have far-reaching and devastating consequences for their friends and family."

Taraji P. Henson confirms split from fiancé Kelvin Hayden

Taraji P. Henson has ended her engagement with fiancé Kelvin Hayden.

The “What Men Want” star, 50, confirmed during an appearance on “The Breakfast Club” on Monday that she and Hayden, 37, split.

“I’m dedicated to the black man, y’all. I just turned 50 and I mean, I hadn’t said it yet, but it didn’t work out,” she said. “I tried. I was, like, therapy. Let’s do the therapy thing, but if you’re both not on the same page with that then you feel like, you’re taking it on yourself, and that’s not a fair position for anybody to play in a relationship.”

Henson said the pair realized that they were not responsible for each other’s happiness and needed to “first make ourselves happy to make each other happy.”

“All of my relationships started looking the same,” she added. “Two broken people trying to pick up the pieces.”

British Airways boss urges UK to end 14-day quarantine

New British Airways chief executive Sean Doyle has urged the UK government to end the quarantining of passengers arriving from abroad amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“We need to get the economy moving again and this just isn’t possible when you’re asking people to quarantine for 14 days,” Doyle told an online aviation conference, a week after he replaced Alex Cruz as the CEO of British Airways.

“If we look abroad to our near neighbours, we see that business travel and indeed tourism is being prioritised by some countries,” Doyle added.

Addressing the same event, Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said the government was looking at introducing a virus test alongside a shortened quarantine period.

“My ministerial colleagues and I have agreed a regime, based on a single test provided by the private sector and at the cost to the passenger, after a period of self-isolation.”

He added, “It will mean a single test for international arrivals, a week after arrival.”

Doyle is not convinced however, telling the conference, “It’s our view that even if that quarantine period is reduced to seven days, people won’t travel here and the UK will get left behind.”

Hoodlums disguising as #ENDSARS protesters have attacked operatives of the Lagos State Rapid Response Squad (RRS), injuring about 14.

The attack occurred today at Ebute Meta while the operatives were being moved to relieve their colleagues who have been on duty since Sunday.

Armed with sticks and stones the hoodlums in their hundreds barricaded the RRS truck, pelting the operatives with stones.

It was gathered they overpowered the two armed policemen escorting the truck, descended on the officers, and left them with varying degrees of injuries.

Already, some of the injured have been moved to the Police Clinic Ikeja and others were taken to the General Hospital for medical attention.

Thugs also attacked RRS operatives at LASU on Monday morning, forcing their vehicle to detour.

#EndSARS: SARS operatives extorted me twice — Oyo deputy governor

Rauf Olaniyan, the deputy governor of Oyo State, has revealed how some operatives of the recently proscribed Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) extorted money from him in various currencies including naira, dollars and pounds in Lagos.

Mr Olaniyan had last week declared his support for EndSARS protesters.

The deputy governor, while addressing the protesters last week, said that he was a victim of police brutality twice.

Mr Olaniyan, who spoke at the weekend, recounted how the special unit of the police collected money from him without being found guilty of any offence.

He said that on a particular occasion, while he was rushing to catch a flight, SARS operatives took all the monies he had on him (both local and foreign) and that even an appeal to them to spare him some to use when he gets to his destination fell on deaf ears.

He added that only reforms of the police will help address all the anomalies in the system.

“I was a victim twice, once at Ikeja roundabout and at Ojota ramp when you want to negotiate around Ikorodu road to the express.

“Ask my driver. We were ransacked there. What only saved me was the fact that I had some money with me. I had to part with over N100,000. It was terrible.

“That of Ikeja, they took pounds sterlings, they took dollar notes, all the money I had because I was travelling. I was eager to go and catch my flight, they emptied me.

EFCC confirms attacks on website

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed that there were attempts to breach its website.

Anonymous, a legion of hackers, had claimed responsibility for hitting the agency’s internet platform.

The group also tempered with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) website and threatened to target more.

The anonymous group say their actions are in support of the EndSARS protests in the country.

EFCC, however, assured that its website was not hacked.

On Monday, Wilson Uwujaren, EFCC Head of Media, noted that the compromise efforts were recorded over the weekend.

The spokesman blamed “cybercriminals” for a near breach of its privacy.

Uwujaren said the attempts were successfully repelled and that the website “is up and running”.
