Nothing else can be lifeless than Buhari’s speech – Fayose

Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose has said he was disappointed by the speech delivered by President Muhammadu Buhari on the #EndSARS protest.

He said one was getting convinced that something must be wrong somewhere.

Buhari briefed Nigerians on Thursday and vowed to defend the unity of the nation, lamenting the wanton destruction of lives and properties.

Fayose said nothing else could be lifeless than the president’s speech.

“Mr President has never disappointed me. Nothing else can be lifeless than the President’s Speech. Those who brought this CHANGE should enjoy the NEXT/NEW LEVEL while it lasts,” he tweeted.

Fayose had on Wednesday attacked Buhari, saying no true president of a nation would wait to be compelled to speak to his people at this critical time.

Buhari accuses #ENDSARS protesters of looting, killings

President Muhammadu Buhari has accused #ENDSARS protesters of being behind the looting and killings in the country in recent days.

This is despite video and pictorial evidence revealing #ENDSARS protests have been peaceful and have not caused any harm.

The President in his nationwide broadcast on Thursday night, said protesting Nigerians abused the democratic rights to demonstrate and are engaging in vandalism and destruction of properties.

Buhari noted that there was no way whatsoever to connect these bad acts to legitimate expression of grievance of the youth of Nigeria.

He said, "The result of this is clear to all observers: human lives have been lost; acts of sexual violence have been reported; two major correctional facilities were attacked and convicts freed; public and private properties completely destroyed or vandalised; the sanctity of the palace of a peacemaker, the Oba of Lagos has been violated.

"So-called protesters have invaded an international airport and in the process disrupted the travel plans of fellow Nigerians and our visitors.

"All these executed in the name of the ENDSARS protests. I am indeed deeply pained that innocent lives have been lost. These tragedies are uncalled for and unnecessary."

Recall that government-sponsored thugs seized the protests to foment trouble in different states across the country.

Many peaceful demonstrators were killed in the process while public properties were damaged by the thugs.

Bandits ‘kill 20’ in fresh attack in Zamfara state

At least 20 people were on Tuesday killed by gunmen in Tungar Kwana village in Talata Mafara local government area of Zamfara State, residents and police said.

Residents said the armed men arrived the community on motorbikes after blocking the community’s entry and exit points before unleashing terror on the defenceless residents.

“It was a well planned and coordinated attack; they also stole many livestock and escaped to the forest,” a resident said pleading anonymity for security reason.

The resident alleged that the attack was in retaliation for the massive ongoing onslaught by Nigerian security forces against the armed bandits in their forest enclave.

The Emir of Talata Mafara, Bello Muhammed, led the funeral prayer for the victims on Wednesday morning. Many residents have reportedly deserted the community in fear, with those left behind appealing for the deployment of more security personnel to the area.

S.e.x worker strips 34-year-old man n.a.k.e.d for failing to pay

Drama ensued in Kakamega Town, Kenya on Tuesday evening after a youthful woman, alleged to be a commercial s.e.x worker, stripped her 34-year-old male client n.a.k.e.d for failing to pay her Ksh300 for her services.

The two met earlier Tuesday, and spent a better part of the morning drinking alcohol before booking themselves into a Kakamega Town lodging facility.

The woman said her client refused to pay her Ksh300 for her services, despite reaching an agreement on the amount before getting intimate.

With the client cornered, embarrassed and helpless, eye witnesses, who knew the man, reached his Nairobi-based mother to help her son settle the debt.

The man’s mother said she had already sent her son Ksh2,000 as bus-fare to Nairobi from Kakamega.

“I won’t be surprised to learn that he used the money on alcohol and women,” the man’s mother said on phone before hanging up.

Seeing that the circus had no end in sight, one of the residents offered to pay the sex worker the Ksh300 that the “broke” client owed her.

The man, however, maintained that he never had s.e.xual intercourse with the woman, and, therefore, there was no money that he owed her.

“I did not have s.e.xual intercourse with her. She is my good friend. She is a nice lady, whom I have the greatest respect for. Out of that respect, I couldn’t sleep with her,” said the client.

The man was let go Tuesday afternoon after his “service-provider” confirmed receiving Ksh300 from a well-wisher.

Nigerians ask RCCG to strip Osinbajo of his pastor title or compel him to resign

Some Nigerians have asked the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) to strip Vice President Yemi Osinbajo of his pastor title or compel him to resign.

On Tuesday, several #EndSARS protesters were killed by the Nigerian Army in Lagos.

The soldiers, after killing the protesters, were reported to have carried their corpses away to cover up the act.

The incident occurred hours after the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, announced a 24-hour curfew in the state.

Shortly after the announcement, there was panic on social media after photos emerged of unknown men removing CCTV cameras at the Lekki toll gate.

At dusk, some unknown persons turned off all the street light, throwing the tollgate into darkness.

Soon afterwards, the military arrived and ordered protesters to go home after which they fired into the crowd.

Below are some reactions by Nigerians criticizing the Vice President on Twitter:

Forget the remaining N90m for my palace's renovation, Soun of Ogbomosho tells Makinde

Oba Oladunni Oyewumi Ajagungbade III, the Soun of Ogbomosho land has rejected a gift of N90m extended to him by Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde for the renovation of his palace.

The monarch’s palace was vandalized by hoodlums after police shot dead one during #EndSARS protest in the town.

In a letter dated October 19, 2020 addressed to Governor Makinde, the monarch politely turned down the gift.

Makinde had pledged a donation of N100m for the repairs of the vandalized palace.

According to the monarch, the damages incurred during the unfortunate incident would be taken care of by a coordinated community effort of Ogbomoso sons and daughters.

Oba Oyewumi further stated that a N10m released by the Governor would be added to the contributions of his subjects.

Part of the letter read, “allow me to use this medium to express the appreciation of my people and myself for the kind gesture by Your Excellency in pledging the sum of N100m for the cost of the repairs and renovation of the Palace from the damages of the attack and an immediate disbursement of the sum of N10m”.

“However, subsequent to your visit, and in a gesture truly representative of the good and peace-loving people of Ogbomoso, a coordinated community of Ogbomoso sons and daughters have also taken up the responsibility for the repairs and renovation of their Palace and the repair and renovation work has commenced.”

“In consequence of this development, and the assessment done, there is no need to disburse the balance of the sum of N90m.

“May I reiterate my advice during your visit that avenues and opportunities to engage our teeming youth who are largely unemployed or underemployed be assiduously explored to keep them meaningfully engaged and not idle. I have no doubt in my mind that under your able leadership this will be done.

“With respect to the misguided ones who violated the sacred sanctity of Aafin Ogbomoso, as the father of all, they are forgiven for their mistake and misdeed in the knowledge that they have retraced their steps and mended their ways for the future and will no longer allow themselves to be misguided”.

“Once again, my sincere thanks to you for your support and interest in upholding the traditional institution of Oyo State and by extension Yorubaland.

“May God grant you wisdom and success as you steer the affairs of Oyo State”.

Lekki shooting: My enquiry indicates Sanwo-Olu didn’t invite Army – Soyinka

Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka has said his enquiry so far indicated that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu did not invite the army to shoot at #EndSARS protesters in Lekki.

Soyinka, who condemned the shooting of the protesters in Lekki said the governor did not also complain of a breakdown of law and order in the State.

He said the centre has chosen to act in an authoritarian manner and has inflicted a near incurable wound on the community psyche.

In his words: “It is absolutely essential to let this government know that the Army has now replaced SARS in the demonic album of the protesters.

“My enquiry so far indicates that the Lagos governor did not invite in the Army, did not complain of a ‘breakdown in law and order’.  Nevertheless the Centre has chosen to act in an authoritarian manner and has inflicted a near incurable wound on the community psyche.”

However, Soyinka asked State Governors where the Federal Government has deployed military to quell protests to demand their withdrawals now to avoid further escalation of crisis.

“At that earlier mention Lagos sector, Lekki, where most of the affirmative action gatherings had taken place, soldiers opened fire on unarmed demonstrators, killing and wounding  a yet undetermined number. One such extra-judicial killing has drenched the Nigerian flag in the blood of innocents – and not symbolically.

“The video has, in accustomed parlance, ‘gone viral’. I have spoken by phone to eye-witnesses. One, a noted public figure has shared his first hand testimony on television. The government should cease to insult this nation with petulant denials,” he said.

“To the affected governors all over the nation, there is one immediate step to take: demand the withdrawal of those soldiers.  Convoke Town Hall meetings as a matter of urgency. 24-hr Curfews are not the solution. Take over the security of your people with whatever resources you can rummage.

“Substitute community self-policing based on Local Councils, to curb hooligan infiltration and extortionist  and destructive opportunism. We commiserate with the bereaved and urge state governments to compensate material losses, wherever,” he added.

Soyinka said to “commence any process of healing at all – dare one assume that this is the ultimate destination of desire? –  the Army must apologize, not merely to the nation but to the global community – the facts are indisputable – you, the military, opened fire on unarmed civilians. There has to be structured restitution and assurance that such aberrations will not again be recorded.

“Then both governance and its security arms can commence a meaningful, lamentably overdue dialogue with  society. Do not attempt to dictate -Dialogue!”

Governor Sule vows to sign death warrant of r.a.p.i.s.t, kidnappers brought before him

The Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has said he will sign death warrants concerning r.a.pists and kidnappers brought before him.

Sule made the statement while inaugurating the sensitisation programme for action against the persistence cases of r.a.pe and kidnapping across the 13 local government areas of the state on Wednesday.

He said r.a.pe and kidnapping were the most stringent security challenges that had been confronting the state, adding that the 36 states, as well as the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, had their peculiar security challenges.

He said, “I will sign any death sentences regarding r.a.pe and kidnapping brought before me.”

The governor added that he would soon institute death penalty as consequences for r.a.pe and kidnapping, pointing out that a stiffer penalty for rapists and kidnappers would deter those who had the intention of embarking on such act.

“If the state Assembly come up with a law to make death sentence a penalty for r.a.pists and kidnappers, I will sign that into a law.”
