Massive crowd storms Tinubu’s residence in London [Video]

Nigerians demanding the end to police brutality and bad governance in line with the #EndSARS tagline storm the London residence of APC National Leader, Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Saturday.

According to the video posted by African Independent Television, only a few of them carried placards with many chanting derogatory words as they stormed Tinubu’s residence at Duchess Mews, Portland Place.

This is coming after the APC leader was accused of ordering security forces to open fire on #EndSARS protesters at the Lekki tollgate area of Lagos State – a claim he has denied.

Tinubu responded by stating he will never be part of any carnage.

“Why will they use live bullets?

“I will never, never be part of any carnage. I will never be part of that.”

The former Lagos state governor also denied having any investment in the Lekki Concession Company, the firm which manages the tollgate.

He said: “I have no dime, no kobo investment in the tollgate.”

“We are about 13 to 14 days into the protests now. Before now, I was being accused and reported to the Presidency that I was behind the protests, that I was a sponsor of the protests.”

Tinubu had also “appealed to the youths” and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to respond to the demands of the protesters.

“That was why he (Sanwo-Olu) set up the Judicial Commission of Inquiry. The governor has gone to the home of one of the victims to appeal to them.

“He has put N200m together as part of restitution and compensation for those attacked,” he added.

Madrid thrash Barcelona in El-clasico

Champions Real Madrid have thrashed Barcelona 3-1 at the Nou Camp to emerge winner of Saturday’s El-clasico.

The win takes Madrid to the top of La Liga table. It was an embarrassing defeat for the Lionel Messi-led Barcelona.

It was a sweet win for Madrid who have lost their last two games at home.

Madrid opened scoring on five minutes of play through Federico Valverde.

Karim Benzema produced a great pass that found Valverde inside the penalty area, who took advantage of the situation to rifle a shot into the top left corner.

Barcelona responded swiftly to make it 1-1 through Anssumane Fati on eight minutes, who found himself some space inside the box to get on the end of a pass from Jordi Alba, then sent the ball into the bottom right corner.

On 61 minutes, Sergio Ramos broke into the box and went over after a challenge from an opposition player, but the referee signaled no penalty, but VAR overruled the referee’s decision and awarded a penalty to Madrid.

Ramos won the battle of wills and sent an unstoppable penalty past Neto into the bottom left corner.

On 70 minutes, a sweeping move ended with a pass to Jordi Alba inside the box. He let fly towards the right side of the goal, but Thibaut Courtois was watching it all the way and made a comfortable save.

Madrid made it 3-1 on 90 minutes through Luka Modric, who made a great solo run and pulled the trigger from inside the box, beating Neto with a strike under the crossbar.

It was a great win for Madrid, who had 15 shots attempt on goal, with nine of such shots hitting target, with four off target and two blocked by the keeper.

Horror! Thai woman is bitten by python while using the toilet

A 7ft python bit a woman on the bottom while she used the toilet in Thailand and she was rushed to hospital.

Boonsong Plaikaew, 54, was about to finish using the toilet at her home in Samut Prakan, central Thailand, when she felt a searing pain on her bottom on Sunday.

Blood gushed through her legs and underwear before the snake bit her again on the finger.

She pulled the python off her fingers and ran out of the toilet screaming for help.

Her husband locked the bathroom door and called animal rescuers who arrived with paramedics.

They gave her first aid treatment after checking on her wounds before rushing her to the hospital.

Speaking at the hospital, Mrs Plaikaew said she had just finish urinating when the python struck.

She: 'I did not see the snake hiding inside the bowl, so I was just doing my stuff when I was attacked.'

Mrs Plaikaew was allowed to go home after having a health check up since the snake was not venomous.

She was given antibiotics for any potential infections from the snake's teeth.

The animal rescuers captured the python while it slithered on the bathroom floor.

They placed the wild animal on a sack and took it with them to be released in the wild later.

Osun re-imposes 24-hour curfew indefinitely

Governor Gboyega Oyetola of Osun State on Saturday afternoon, imposed a 24-hour curfew across the whole state with immediate effect till further notice.

The state government had on Friday lifted a 24-hour curfew earlier declared in the state to forestall the breakdown of law and order to protect the lives and property of citizens and residents.

However, Oyeola said after an Emergency Security Meeting on Saturday afternoon, where the whole situation was reviewed and assessed, the state government came to the inevitable conclusion to declare a curfew.

The Governor, while speaking, said it is unfortunate that hoodlums and criminals have taken advantage of government’s action to wantonly loot government and private property, including private business premises and homes in several parts of the State this morning.

Oyetola described the act of looting as unacceptable and it stands condemned.

“This inevitable conclusion was reached to avert the continuation of this irresponsible act, especially now that the genuine protesters have suspended their protest earlier today.

“My fellow citizens, the declaration of a 24-hour curfew, which will be indefinite until further notice, is to prevent the current state of anarchy from degenerating into large-scale breakdown of law and order.

“For the avoidance of doubt, there shall be no vehicular (including Okada) or human movement during this period. Only those on essential duties will be permitted to move around. These persons too must carry with them proper identification to allow access.

“Violators of the curfew rules shall be prosecuted in line with the extant laws of the State.

“I enjoin all our citizens and residents to return home and remain in their homes until further notice,” he said.

Edo jail break: Nigerians mock Obaseki over ultimatum to 2,000 escaped inmates

Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki on Friday extended the ultimatum issued to inmates on the run.

Last Monday, amid the violence that erupted after End SARS protest went awry, two correctional facilities in Edo were attacked.

The next day, the federal government confirmed that rampaging youths breached the Custodial Centres in Benin and Oko.

The Ministry of Interior, in a statement, said at the last count, 1,993 inmates in legal custody had escaped.

The figure has reportedly exceeded 2,000.

The government added that the assailants looted weapons after pouncing on officers on guard duty.

After an initial warning return, Obaseki postponed the deadline to Friday, October 30.

“The new window is to allow more prisoners to return to the centres willingly,” his spokesman, Crusoe Osagie noted.

In reaction, Nigerians are wondering how the Governor expects the escapees to turn in themselves after regaining freedom.

They noted that it would be a miracle if a good number of the (ex)inmates go back on their own volition.

Many say for a country deficient in record-keeping and data management, tracking 2,000 people successfully may be a pipe dream.

TVC resumes operations after mob attack

The headquarters of Television Continental popularly known as TVC in Ketu, Lagos which was attacked by hoodlums earlier this week, is now back on air.

Hoodlums had vandalised and set ablazed the station on Tuesday during violence that broke out from #EndSARS protests in Lagos.

Findings on Saturday revealed that the station is still battling technical glitches.

This is coming barely 24 hours after the head office of Nation newspaper which was attacked by the hoodlums resumed operation.

The recent attacks on private and government-owned properties in the state were triggered by the shooting of unarmed #EndSARS protesters at Lekki tollgate on Tuesday.

The two media establishments have been linked to the former Lagos state governor and national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu who is believed to be the target of the attacks.

Girl topping her class academically kills herself after becoming overwhelmed by stress of her course

A talented university student who was ‘top of the class’ killed herself after becoming overwhelmed by the stress of her course.

An inquest heard how first-year psychology student Keana Dippenaar, 18, was found hanging in her halls of residence after fearing she was ‘not good enough’.

Her brother, Drake Dippenaar, told the hearing in Winchester this week, that his sister was ‘very, very smart’ but ‘hard on herself’. ‘I always said to her that it was not about what people expected of her but just what she could do,’ he said. ‘She was very hard on herself but even so she always pushed through it and aced all her exams.

‘One of the teachers at her uni said she was doing exceptionally well; that she was top of the class.’

Keana’s body was discovered in her room at Southampton University by friends who became worried when she didn’t show up for a Christmas dinner on December 8 last year.

After knocking on the door a number of times just before midnight and receiving no reply, they forced their way in and found her dead.

Emergency services were called to the Russell Group university accommodation but Keana was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police officers said she had left five suicide notes. Coroner Jason Pegg recorded a conclusion of death by suicide.

Keana’s devastated mum Carlene described her daughter as ‘the most gorgeous, bubbly, friendly and caring daughter’. She said Keana loved Korean pop music, films and culture, and had even taught herself the language.

The teen, originally from Southend in Essex, loved reading and always wanted to write a book.

Why Buhari did not speak on Lekki toll gate shooting in nationwide address – Presidency

The Presidency, on Saturday disclosed why President Muhammadu Buhari did not mention the Lekki toll gate shooting in his nationwide speech addressing the issue of EndSARS.

Buhari’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina disclosed that his principal did not mention the shooting because it would be “premature and presumptuous.”

Adesina, while appearing on Channels Television’s programme, Politics Today, explained that the shooting was being investigated by the military.

He said: “The Defence Headquarters issued a statement to say that it was investigating the matter. Lagos State Governor has also set up a probe panel to investigate what really happened.

“So, the President couldn’t have said anything because it would be premature and presumptuous while investigation is ongoing

“It is after investigation has been concluded that he can speak on the matter.”

Buhari had received some backlash from Nigerians over his silence on the Lekki shooting recorded carried out by soldiers.

EndSARS: Buhari reveals regret over ex-IG of Police, Arase

President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed his regret at not working longer with a former Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase.

This was revealed by presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, in his weekly article.

Arase was appointed by former president, Goodluck Jonathan, in 2015 and worked under Buhari until 2016 when he retired.

He was the 18th IG of Police.

Adesina said Buhari, who has always had it in mind to reform the police, was impressed with Arase’s performance and wished he worked with him “to birth the police of his dreams”.

He added: “Talking of reform of the police, I know the mind of the President on that issue. Sometime in the early days of the first term of the administration, I had dropped into the house one night. And it was a few days to the exit of the then Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, who was going into retirement.

“The President told me how much he had been impressed with Arase and how he regretted that the man spent just about a year with him. He then told me of the police of his dreams.”

There has been unrest across Nigeria over police brutality which triggered the #EndSARS campaign.

Amid the protests, there were calls for the resignation of the current IG of Police, Mohammed Adamu.
