I knew it was fake love all along – Nengi tells Ozo for not keeping his promise

BBnaija star Nengi has disclosed that she has known all along that Ozo‘s love for her is fake because he didn’t keep a promise he made to her.

Having a conversation with Ozo in an Instagram live video, Nengi said she didn’t like the kind of friendship between them as Ozo keeps going back on his words.

Ozo trying to defend himself asked whether Nengi knows him to be someone who doesn’t keep his promise as it’s being only one month after the show ended.

Reacting to Nengi’s claims of his love being fake, Ozo asked her to keep the same energy and when the time comes that he honors his promise, she will see it’s not fake.

How a priest rose to become a president in Seychelles

There was only the merest hint of triumphalism in President Wavel Ramkalawan's acceptance speech as he addressed an audience of invited dignitaries assembled in the manicured grounds of State House.

His election marks a seismic change for the islands, where the presidency has been dominated by one party since 1977.

In front of the grand Victorian colonial mansion and accompanied by a military guard of honour, the 58-year-old was sworn in by the chief justice on Monday.

The new president is an ordained Anglican minister, and not surprisingly his overall message was one of peace, tolerance and an appeal for all Seychellois to work together for national unity, and to overcome the divisions of so many years of political wrangling.

Thanking outgoing President Danny Faure for keeping political dialogue open over the past few years, Mr Ramkalawan stressed the need for tolerance among the Seychellois people and appealed for what he called a return to civility, to a society where everyone says good morning to one another and where racial and social differences are put aside.

"Seychelles," said the new president, "should be an example of tolerance for the whole world. We are 115 small islands in the Indian Ocean, but we are not insular.

"We will maintain friendly relations with all nations, and welcome help and assistance from our international allies whomsoever they may be."

Behind the Christian sentiments expressed by the new president there is also political steel.

This was his sixth attempt at the presidency, a journey that began when he first contested the role in 1998.

He had entered politics several years earlier, and was criticised by the government for making what they saw as political statements from the pulpit during the one-party state era.

He had come tantalising close to winning the presidency several times, and in 2015 lost to James Michel by only 193 votes in a second round of voting.

Referring to the years in opposition, and his five previous defeats in presidential elections Mr Ramkalawan quoted Nelson Mandela: "A winner is a dreamer who never gives up."

Alleged planner of Mali Radisson Blu hotel attack goes on trial

Two men accused of being behind terror attacks in 2015 that targeted foreigners in Mali have gone on trial in the capital, Bamako.

At least 26 people died when gunmen stormed La Terrasse nightclub in March of that year and the Radisson Blu hotel in November.

The alleged Islamists face charges of planning and executing the attacks.

This is a rare trial in the country which has been fighting an insurgency since 2012.

French soldiers have been helping the Malian army, but the government has not been able to take full control of the country.

Fawaz Ould Ahmeida, a Mauritanian who is the alleged mastermind, was brought to court by hooded guards as heavily armed soldiers protected the building, AFP news agency reports.

He is accused of personally shooting the victims at the nightclub using an assault rife, as revenge for French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo publishing cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad.

Mr Ahmeida, who was arrested in 2016, is also accused of plotting the Radisson Blu attack.

In court, he had a full-beard and was dressed in a long traditional grey robe, AFP reports.

In March 2015 gunmen sprayed bullets at La Terrasse nightclub and tossed a grenade inside. Three Malians, a Frenchman and a Belgian were killed.

Eight months later two armed men held 170 guests and staff hostage at the Radisson Blu during the nine-hour siege, killing at least 20 and wounding 14 before security officers stormed the building.

So chilling! Man kills his dad, mum, sister and grandma so they won't find out he dropped out of University

A man murdered four members of his family to stop them finding out he was living a double life.

Menhaz Zaman brutally killed his mum Momotaz Begum, 50, dad Moniruz Zaman, 59, sister Malesa Zaman, 21, and his 70-year-old grandma Firoza Begum in July 2019.

The 24-year-old from Markham in Canada, murdered them the day before they believed he would graduate from York University with an engineering degree.

But in reality he had dropped out of the course due to failing grades and was spending his days at a local shopping mall, gym and playing video games at the family home.

After the murders he sent text messages to online friends saying he had been “planning this for three years” and that while he was a “pathetic coward subhuman” his “shaking has stopped", a court heard.

His shocked pals alerted the police who found the bodies of all four victims at the family home.

Last month Zaman pleaded guilty to the second-degree murder of his mum and first-degree murders of his grandma, sister and dad.

He told police he killed his mum first at around 3pm on July 27 and his grandma an hour later.

Both had their throats cut.

Zaman then “sat around playing video games and napping” as he waited for his sister and dad to return home from work.

Crown attorney Kevin Stewart told the virtual court on Monday that autopsies showed they had both been hit on the head, possibly with a crowbar, before Zaman cut their throats as they lay on the floor.

He told the court: “These were horrible, monstrous, brutal killings. They took place in the family home.

“To have them killed, and to have their own flesh and blood responsible for these killings is beyond comprehension.”

Zaman, who is in Central East Correctional Centre in Lindsay, appeared at the hearing via zoom.

After a mask-wearing guard unmuted the microphone he said he would like to respond to Superior Court Justice Michelle Fuerst’s invitation to address the court.

He said: “I’m not sure who this going to reach, but I would like to just apologize to anyone I have impacted negatively with my actions and especially to the people who knew my family, and friends and loved ones who I know could never see something like this from me happening. I’m sorry.”

Each count of murder carries an automatic life sentence but when an offender is convicted of multiple murders it is up to a judge to determine whether the periods of parole eligibility will count concurrently or consecutively.

Zaman could face a parole ineligibility period of 100 years.

Zaman will be sentenced on November 2.

Mum 'sold newborn for £250 on black market to buy sweets and clothes for other children'

A mother is under criminal investigation in Russia for allegedly selling her newborn baby on the black market for £250, police say.

The woman, 30, named Chechena, has three school age children and reportedly needed the money “to buy sweets and clothes for the kids”.

The cleaner was detained after childcare officials, who knew she had been pregnant, became suspicious over the whereabouts of her baby.

She told officers she met the buyers - a childless couple - through acquaintances, according to police.

Chechena then allegedly used the woman buyer’s passport when she registered for a scan and later to enter the maternity hospital in April.

After the baby was born in Krasnoyarsk, the midwife is said to have handed the child to the woman’s husband, believing the man to be Chechena's spouse.

“When I gave birth to a son, my maternal instincts appeared,” said Chechena.

“Before we were discharged from the hospital, I breastfed him myself.”

Despite having second thoughts, she said she agreed to go ahead and sell the baby.

“They immediately took the child away in a taxi,” she said.

“Later I called them several times, and they did not answer.

“Then they blacklisted me.”

Later she pocketed the agreed £250 (25,000 roubles) which was transferred to her card, she said.

“In the summer they transferred me the money to my bank card, like a lump sum,” she said.

“I used it to buy sweets and clothes for the children.

“If they had returned me the child, my fourth son, I would have taken him.”

The buyers have been found and are now in detention.

The baby boy is in the care of social services.

Chechena is under home arrest so she can care for her three older sons.

The woman and the couple face up to 15 years in jail if convicted under Russia’s child trafficking laws.

Police spokeswoman Daria Gribkova said: “She honestly admitted that she handed the baby over for money to a childless couple who she had met some time before.”

She also confessed to using the buyer’s passport in the maternity hospital, said Grobkova.

Celebrities shouldn’t be blamed for #EndSARS protesters’ death – Comedian AY

Ayo Makun professionally called AY has said that Celebrities should not be blamed for the death of #EndSARS protesters.

The comedian said this as he reacted to controversies trailing the death of protesters who lost their lives during and after the #EndSARS protest.

AY said passing the blames on celebrities is not appropriate as a response to the death of those who died during the protest.

He urged protesters to remain focused on the goals of the protest and be less concerned about any distractions even as they mourned fallen protesters.

Last Tuesday, the protest against police brutality, which opposed the now-disbanded SARS, turned bloody after men in military uniform shot at protesters in Lekki, Lagos.

Did Sanwo-Olu Lie? Army says Lagos Govt invited its men to enforce curfew

Did Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu lie that he did not send the military to Lekki Toll Plaza last week Tuesday, where some unarmed protesters were said to have been shot and killed.

The 81 Division of the Nigerian Army has just clarified matters, saying the soldiers came out at the invitation of the Sanwo-Olu led government of Lagos.

Major Osona Olaniyi, spokesman of the Division said the soldiers came out to enforce the curfew.

But Olaniyi denied reports that soldiers shot at unarmed civilians, the #EndSARS protesters who assembled at the Lekki Toll Plaza.

He also denied that the army committed any massacre.

“The attention of headquarters of 81 Division Nigerian Army has been drarwn to a viral video on social media in which it was alleged that civilian protesters were massacred by soldiers at Lekki Toll Plaza.

“This allegation is untrue, unfounded and aimed at causing anarchy in the country. At no time did soldiers of the Nigerian army open fire on any civilian.

“From the onset of the ENDSARS protest, there was no time personnel of 81 Division Nigerian Army Lagos were involved.

“However the decision to call in the military was taken by the Lagos State Government (LASG) after a 24 hours curfew was imposed.

“This was as a result of the violence which led to several police stations being burnt, policemen killed, suspects in police custody released and weapons carted away.

“The situation was fast degenerating into anarchy. It was at this point that LASG requested for the military to intervene in order to restore normalcy.”

“The intervention of the military followed all laid down procedures for internal security operations and all the soldiers involved acted within the confines of the Rules of Engagement (ROE) for internal security operations and

“Finally the Headquarters of 81 Division Nigerian Army reiterates that the Nigerian Army in the discharge of its constitutional responsibilities did not shoot at any civilian as there are glaring and convincing evidence to attest to this fact.

“This allegation is the handiwork of mischief makers who will stop at nothing to tarnish the image of the Nigerian Army. The general public is hereby enjoined to discountenance this allegation as there is no iota of truth therein.”

Sanwo-Olu in earlier statements had claimed he did not invite the soldiers and does not even understand their command structure, to be able to do so.

#EndSARS: 520 hoodlums paraded in Lagos

No fewer than 520 suspects accused of arson, robbery, murder, rioting, malicious damage and unlawful possession of firearms were paraded by Lagos Police Command on Tuesday.

During a press briefing, Commissioner of Police Hakeem Odumosu said the arrests were made following the #EndSARS protest hijacked by hoodlums.

Mr Odumosu said 16 police stations were set ablaze, 13 formations were vandalised, 14 police posts were burnt and five vandalised.

“The command was able to arrest a total of five hundred and twenty (520) suspects for various offences ranging from arson, robbery, murder, rioting, malicious damage, and unlawful possession of firearms,” he said.

The CP said six policemen were “gruesomely murdered during the unrest”, four civilians killed while 38 policemen were injured.

He further said 58 police vehicles were burnt and 13 were vandalised among other damages.

Odumosu said one of the suspects Olamilekan Ibrahim, 19, broke into a new generation bank in Lekki and carted away cash and other valuables.

He said the suspect was arrested with a locally-made pistol and N250,000 believed to be his own share of the loot.

“In the light of the above, it is a known fact that the protest was hijacked by armed hoodlums who have been responsible for series of killings, arson and looting of many shopping outlets in the state. Thorough investigation into the cases has commenced,” said Odumosu.

Drama as 58 year-old woman storms church to block estranged husband’s wedding plans

There was drama at Our Lady of Fatima in Jinja City after a woman who separated from her husband 30 years ago stormed the church service to block his plans of marrying another woman.

Ms Mary Baseka Norah, 58, stormed the Sunday morning service demanding the church leaders to halt the marriage banns and other wedding preparations for her husband, Mr Martin Tibalira with whom she has two children.

Flanked by her daughters, Ms Baseka interrupted the marriage banns saying she could not allow her husband to take on another woman (Ms Proscovia Nabirye) as his wife because they are still legally married.

However, as she was still explaining, police was called to intervene before she was hounded out of the church and ordered to leave the premises.

Her daughters faulted police officers for unfair treatment of their mother whom they said was seeking justice in a peaceful manner.

“Why are you chasing our mother from the church? What has she done? She has come to pray. Is it because Mr Tibalira has paid you? It isn’t right at all,” One of the daughters shouted.

A copy of the marriage certificate seen by this reporter show that Ms Baseka and Mr Tibalira, a prominent businessman in Jinja City got married on March 28, 1981. However, they separated in 1985 over Mr Tibalira’s promiscuous actions.

“I am here to stop my husband from marrying another woman because we are still legally married. However, I’m surprised to see police hounding me from the church yet I would think they are supposed to protect me. To the best of my knowledge, church rules provide that Tibalira is not allowed to marry another woman unless we are divorced,” Ms Baseka said.

Ms Baseka said she had first sought the intervention of the church leaders but they ignored her, prompting her to attend today’s church service and make her concerns known during the banns.

“When I went to the church leaders, they paid me a deaf ear. They said they would continue with the wedding plans. I thought they were joking until I heard his name being mentioned during marriage banns,” she said.
