SEE the moment Laycon was caught watching Erica at Dorathy’s birthday party

The former Big Brother Naija housemates have finally met together again after several weeks of separation from each other. The housemates have met once again at the birthday party of the 2nd runner up for the reality show Dorathy Bachor.

Dorathy Bachor who turned 24 yesterday organized a birthday party where friends and family were invited. During the birthday celebration, Erica who was late for the party walked in and went straight to Dorathy and was seen chatting happily with her.

However, some fans spotted Laycon who was seated very close to the ladies stealing a glance at Erica. It’s no news that the two have not been in good terms after the incident that happened at the Big Brother Naija house.

362 ghost workers earning N20m monthly discovered in Ekiti

A screening committee set up by the Ekiti State Government has uncovered 362 ghost workers in the state's workforce.

Prof Adio Folayan, Commissioner for Local Government and Community Development in the state, made this known when he presented the report of the verification committee to Governor Kayode Fayemi in Ado Ekiti, the capital.

Folayan said further screening by the committee revealed that only 362 workers out of the figure were clarified to be on government's payroll as of June this year.

He disclosed that the state government was losing about N20m monthly to the ghost workers, who are mainly in the local government areas of the state.

He added that the state's Accountant-General had been instructed to stop the salaries of the ghost workers.

According to him, the committee has recommended that all illegal salaries earned by the affected workers should be deducted from their pension and gratuity.

The commissioner also said the ghost workers would be prosecuted for fraud with their accomplices, noting that all heads of department have been directed to enforce discipline.

Governor Fayemi while receiving the report promised to look into the recommendations for immediate implementation.

#EndSARS violence: Sanwo-Olu signs Executive Order for rebuilding of Lagos

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Wednesday signed an executive order for the rebuilding of Lagos in the aftermath of #EndSARS violence that led to wanton destruction of public and private properties in the State.

The governor also set up an 8-member Board for the new Lagos State Rebuilding Trust Fund Committee (LRTFC) to not only oversee the rebuilding of every aspect of the state but also to look at the future of the state and healing of wounds.

Membership of the Board cuts across, the private and public sectors as well as international bodies who have offered to assist in rebuilding the state.

The 8-member board will be chaired by Mr. Yemi Cardoso, while other members are: Prof Kanyisola Ajayi, Mr. Gbenga Agboola, Mrs. Bola Adesola, Mr. Sam Egube, Engr. Jimi Hotonu, Mr. Abubakar Suleiman and a member of international donor agency.

Sanwo-Olu further inaugurated six other committees to assist in quick recovery from the present situation.

The committees are: Business Continuity Committee, Assessment Committee, Planning Committee, Execution, Measurement and Evaluation Committee, Security and Enforcement Committee and Communication and Community Engagement Committee.

Speaking with newsmen at the State House, Ikeja, Sanwo-Olu said it was time to let go of the pains of the loss and focus on rebuilding the state, adding that government had been inundated with offers of assistance to rebuild both locally and internationally.

He stated that though a bill on LRTFC would be presented to the House of Assembly in few days time for passage, but he had to issue an executive order and set up the committee on rebuilding because of the deluge of offer of assistance both locally and internationally.

Sanwo-Olu assured that the state would come out of the ashes with upgraded structures and a modern Lagos as it embarked on reconciliation, rebuilding, unity, social reforms for the state to attain new height of development and obtain greater heights for a greater Lagos.

“It is in that cherished Spirit of Lagos that we have decided to put behind us our most recent challenges and face the daunting task of collectively rebuilding our state. We believe that our culture, heritage, values and future are worth much more than the looting, arson and destruction, which we witnessed in Lagos State about two weeks ago.

“We have decided to look to the future with hope as we work on healing the wounds of our recent past. Instead of wallowing in our pain, we have chosen to positively move forward. We will embrace new standards of governance; we will build stronger partnerships, stronger people, stronger institutions, and a stronger state.

“Our strength lies in our uncanny ability to overcome the most complicated challenges because we have people who genuinely love Lagos State and will assiduously do all they can to preserve its peace and unity. In the last few weeks, we have been inundated with local and global offers of assistance to rebuild our state and recover all we lost to arson and violence in October.

is obvious that we can no longer wait to begin the onerous task of reconstructing Lagos State. In the next few days, our government will send a bill to the Lagos State House of Assembly for the Establishment of a Trust Fund to Rebuild Lagos,” he said.

He said when the Trust Fund Bill is passed by the House of Assembly and becomes law, the Lagos Rebuild Trust Fund Committee would be dissolved, and that its functions would be immediately transferred to the newly established Trust Fund.

The governor said with the deluge of offers of immediate help and assistance received locally and internationally, “we can no longer wait until the bill is passed. It is expedient that our enumeration, recovery, and rebuilding efforts start as soon as possible.”

FG clamps down on #EndSARS promoters, freezes accounts

There were strong indications on Tuesday that the Federal Government had begun a clampdown on promoters of #EndSARS protests by freezing their bank accounts.

Some #EndSARS promoters, who spoke separately to The Punch, said their banks informed them that the Central Bank of Nigeria had directed that their accounts should be frozen.

Last months, youths calling for the disbanding of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Nigeria Police protested for two weeks in major cities of the country.

On Tuesday, some promoters of the protests said their accounts had been frozen for the past two weeks.

The CBN, according to multiple complaints received by The Punch, reportedly instructed banks to place a ‘Post No Debit’ restriction on the accounts.

The banks, it was learnt, were able to implement the directive by tracking the ‘narration’ of transactions.

Bank transactions that included the narration #EndSARS or End SARS were immediately flagged while such accounts receiving funds were frozen.

Speaking to Punch, a pharmacist, Bassey Israel, who was in charge of the #EndSARS medical team in Port Harcourt, said his account with Access Bank marked 003397XXXX had remained frozen since October 15.

According to him, when he learnt of the development, he went to the bank to find out the reason for it. Israel said he was informed by a bank officer that the directive came from the apex bank.

He said, “I am in charge of End SARS medical team in Port Harcourt and we had people donating for medical supplies, food, water, ambulance services and these donations were made directly into my account and of course these donations had End SARS descriptions so I think that was how they were able to flag my account. I noticed that on October 15, I was trying to make a debit transaction on my account and noticed that there was a restriction.

“So, I called the bank and I was told that there was indeed a restriction but I should go to any branch near me and when I did so, the branch manager sent a mail to the branch where I opened the account. The response to the mail was that there was a directive from the CBN to restrict the account.

“The lady was surprised and even asked me if I had any issue with the CBN and I responded that if I had any issue with the CBN, I wouldn’t be in the bank in the first place, I would be on the run. I asked what could be done and she gave me no answer. She had to show me the mail on her computer which I read. It was directly from the CBN and it read, ‘Place this account on PND.”

When asked if others had similar problems, Israel said, “I know many persons that have this same challenge.”

Israel said the money in the frozen account was a substantial sum.

Another #EndSARS protester told one of punch correspondents that she had not been able to access her account and had been informed that it was frozen.

She, however, wished to remain anonymous for fear of being victimised by the government.

One of the promoters of the #EndSARS movement, Feyikemi Abudu, also confirmed in a tweet that the accounts of several persons involved in the protests had been frozen.

The acting Spokesman for the CBN, Abdulmumin Isa, who was first contacted last week on the telephone, asked the correspondent to give him some time.

However, after one week of waiting, Isa had yet to provide any information on the matter.

The Spokesman for Access Bank, Abdul Imoyo, said he could not make comments on individual accounts of customers for confidentiality reasons.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Immigration Service on Monday prevented a promoter of the #EndSARS movement, Modupe Odele, from travelling.

Although the NIS officers did not disclose the reason for their action, it is believed that the action was taken because of her alleged role in the #EndSARS protests.

Odele, had through her Twitter handle, @Mochievous, mobilised her 219,000 followers during the protests.

She had also ensured that free legal aid was given to persons who were unjustly arrested during the demonstrations.

Confirming the development in a newsletter sent out on Monday, the lawyer said she was on her way to the Maldives to celebrate her birthday when she was accosted by immigration officers.

She wrote, “For my birthday, I had planned a trip to the Maldives. It was really for a break as the events of the last three weeks have exhausted my mind and body in a way I have never been exhausted in my life.

“I went to the airport, passed through immigration, and while I was putting my bags through the body and baggage scanner, the immigration officer who had previously cleared me, called me back. He told me he had orders from above to detain me.

Bm“Okay, at this point I’m like excuse me, my flight is in an hour. On what grounds are you detaining me?” He didn’t respond. Instead, he goes to his computer where he typed in my name, and something that looked like a ‘wanted poster’ popped up on the portal.

“He blocked my view so I couldn’t see most of it but I saw some of it. And it read something like – ‘This person is under investigation by XYZ Intelligence Agency. If seen, they should be apprehended on sight.’”

Odele said she was detained while her passport was seized by the officers and she was made to miss her flight.

The Spokesman for the NIS, Sunday James, said he did not have any information on the matter but promised to find out.

There were reports that the Federal Government had begun going after notable persons in the #EndSARS protests and had placed some of them on a ‘no fly list.’

However, the Federal Ministry of Interior denied the allegation, saying it did not generate any ‘no fly list.”

Anxiety as WAEC Withholds results of Ekiti candidates over alleged indebtedness

Panic has gripped parents and candidates who sat for the 2020 West African Examinations Council (WAEC), as the body withheld the results of all candidates that sat for it in all public schools in Ekiti State.

Parents and wards, who besieged their respective schools to collect the results released a few days ago were disappointed, as they were told that they are yet to be released.

The same disappointing scenario played out in some of the cybercafés (ICT centres) where the candidates had gone to check their results in Ado Ekiti metropolis.

WAEC, on Monday released results across the country through a well publicized statement signed by its Registrar.

The 2020 edition of the examination was the most tension soaked in the history of the country, as the schedules had to be shifted from April to August due to the global COVID-19 pandemic that necessitated closure of schools across the country.

The candidates and their parents got more incensed by the rumour flying around on social media that the results were withheld due to Governor Kayode Fayemi’s government’s indebtedness to WAEC.

It was being widely rumoured that the state is still owing several millions of naira being the free WAEC fee declared for all students in public schools by Fayemi, as part of the pivot of his free education policy.

The state government has been paying the WAEC fee of all students in public schools since the advent of Fayemi’s second term in 2018.

One of the parents said: “The government must have pity on these students who had to stay at home for months before the examination was written.

“They must please look for ways to sort out whatever caused this unwholesome development, because many of the candidates will use the results for university admission. We plead and beg that the government must do this fast”.

But the State Commissioner for Information, Mr, Akin Omole, doused the tension generated, debunking the allegation that the state’s indebtedness to WAEC necessitated the withholding of the results.

Omole clarified that the results were put on hold owing to computation mistakes made by WAEC and not because of debt.

“The seizure was caused by the mistakes made in some of the ways the results were computed. The issue of Ekiti owing money doesn’t arise, it was a blatant lie.

“The government immediately contacted WAEC and it tendered apologies to the state.

“We appeal to our candidates and parents not to be ruffled by this, the government is handling the issue with all seriousness.

“Going by what WAEC said, the results will be released either on Thursday or Friday this week.”

#EndSARS: Nollywood actress, Iyabo Ojo cries out over threat message

Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo claimed she received a threat message allegedly sent from the government for supporting the #EndSARS movement against the now-defunct controversial Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

According to the mother of two in a social media post on Wednesday, she woke up to a message from a friend that her name was being mentioned in government circles.

“So this morning I wake up to a message from a friend in the media, he said someone sent this to him,” she wrote.

“Now, if you are close to Iyabo Ojo, advise her to calm down. Smart celebrities who have brains don’t take on governments ooo. I was somewhere and her name was mentioned.”

Are we now threatened to silence?”, she asked.

US Election: One of the Nigerians contesting, Faleti has lost

A Nigerian-American, Yinka Faleti, has failed in his bid to become the Missouri Secretary of State in the 2020 US election.

The outcome of the election showed that Missouri Secretary of State, Jay Ashcroft of the Republican party was re-elected.

However, Faleti said he would “continue to fight” for the development of Missouri.

He said this in a series of tweets announcing the outcome of the election.

The Nigerian-American tweeted, “While the results of this election did not go the way we wanted, I am grateful for the support of so many who brought us this far.

“With your help and support, we have brought attention to the fight to have every vote counted.

“We have shone light on dark efforts to suppress voter turnout, disenfranchise communities and rob Missourians of their ability to decide their own future on their own terms. But our work is not yet over.

“Civic engagement does not end after an election. Voting is only the beginning. Those who we elect are supposed to serve the people; and, in turn, the people are meant to hold their elected officials accountable. I ask you to do that.

“As I have said since the beginning of our campaign, democracy demands participation. Our democracy is strong only if we the people exercise our power to hold our elected leaders to account.

“The future is bright for Missouri—if we make it so. I will continue that fight. My ask of you is to do the same.

“In Missouri, a Republican-controlled state, Mr Yinka Faleti from Lagos is the Democratic Party standardbearer in the election for the office of Secretary of State.

Federal Government seeks fresh $1.2bn loan from Brazil

The Federal Government is seeking a $1.2bn external borrowing from Brazil to finance agricultural programmes in the 2021 budget. A request for approval has also been transmitted to the National Assembly.

The Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, who appeared before the House of Representatives Committee on Finance in Abuja on Tuesday to defend the budget proposed by her ministry, made this known.

Ahmed disclosed that the Federal Government sent a request to the National Assembly to approve the loan from the Brazilian government to address issues in the agriculture value chain as Nigeria.

Ahmed also said the Federal Government would acquire 100,000 hectares of land in each state for food production, adding that link roads would be built in such locations to provide access for farmers to move farm produce to markets and reduce post-harvest losses.

Chairman of the committee, Mr James Faleke, had asked the finance minister about diversification of the economy.

Responding, Ahmed said, “For borrowing to improve industry, we are before the parliament. I request for the approval for loan that we call the Green Imperative Programme which is for loan of $1.2bn from the Brazilian government.

“It is a programme that is addressing the whole of agricultural value chain from mechanisation, production, processing and selling. It is meant to lend to businessmen for tractors, plants at all levels.”

Zainab also faulted the Minister of Power, Sale Mamman on why the 3,050MW Mambilla power project was not captured in the 2021 budget.

The finance minister stated that Mamman did not include the project in the submission made to her ministry for 2021 budget.

The finance minister also told the committee that the executive might forward a supplementary budget to the National Assembly to provide for new salaries in the ongoing reform of the Nigeria Police Force.

Ahmed also stated that the Federal Government was still bent on the enrolment of all workers on the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System, including members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, while the University Accountability and Transparency Solution proposed by the university lecturers undergoes verification by experts.

Shiites in Nigeria take sides with man who murdered teacher in France over caricature of Prophet Muhammad... calls out President Macron as they burn France flag

Members of the proscribed Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), also known as Shiites on Tuesday, November 3, 2020, staged a protest in Abuja against French President, Emmanuel Macron, over an offensive republishing of caricatures of Prophet Muhammad by a citizen of the European country.

A French middle-school teacher, Samuel Paty was gruesomely murdered after illustrating with the cartoon of Prophet Muhammad on 16 October 2020 in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine, a suburb of Paris.

President Emmanuel Macron in his reaction to the unfortunate incident defended the freedom of expression saying, “We will not give up caricatures and drawings, even if others back away,” while calling for an end to hatred and violence and for respect for others.

President Macron hailed Mr Paty as “a quiet hero” and “the face of the Republic” at an event in Paris.

He then presented the teacher’s family with the nation’s highest honour, the Légion d’honneur.

Macron’s comment about Islam being “in crisis” and his defence of the offensive caricature, which Muslims find offensive, has prompted a global backlash, with Muslims across the world holding protests and calling for a boycott of French products.

The Shiite members in large numbers marched from Nitel Junction to Wuse Market while chanting anti-France songs.

The protesters also set ablaze the French national flag to signify their anger against the country, a development which led to pandemonium in the market as traders hurriedly locked up their shops for fear of possible attacks by the sect members.

The Secretary of the Academic Forum of the movement, Abdullahi Musa said the rally was meant to condemn the action of the France President on the derogatory publication.

A statement by Sheikh Sidi Munir, a follower of the sect’s leader, Sheik Ibraheem Zakzaky, reads: “We set the French flag on fire in reaction to the attack on Islam and Muslims by French President Emmanuel Macron since the heinous crime of publishing cartoons of the Prophet by the magazine, Charlie Hebdo.

“Hence, we applaud the current campaign across Muslim countries and all lovers of peace and humanity.”

The protest caused gridlock as motorists were forced to use alternative routes.

The 30-minute protest was terminated at Wuse Market.

Landlord threatening to eject Nigerian embassy in Hungary over owed rent - Onyeama

Godfrey Onyeama, the minister of foreign affairs, says the landlord of the building where the Nigerian embassy in Hungary is located is threatening to evict the embassy.

Onyeama was speaking while defending the ministry’s 2021 budget at the house of representatives in Abuja on Tuesday.

The minister said one of the challenges the ministry is facing is the movement of officers, ambassadors and their families.

He explained that the ministry needs N1.6 billion to move ambassadors and pay officers N3.7 billion, making a total of N5.3 billion for the whole movement.

The minister said there is a need to address the inadequate overhead budgetary provisions to the missions, which is resulting in a lot of debt for electricity and rent.

“Just on Monday, the ambassador in Hungary called to say they are going to throw them out from the chancery building. That the landlord is coming and that they do not have the money to pay,” NAN quoted him to have said.

“And we get that from a lot of missions across the world and that is not a sustainable way of running foreign service.

“Then this exchange rate differential with the CBN is really something we need to address once and for all.

“It is not so easy, all of these things are computed in naira and all the payments abroad are in dollars and once the exchange rate is changed, it never goes the other way, it always goes up, it never comes down vis-a-vis the dollar. This means immediate shortfall for all our missions.”

Onyeama said the federal government is making plans to reduce the number of international organisations Nigeria belongs to because of a scarcity of funds.

Kanye West votes for himself, hints at 2024 presidential run

Rapper Kanye West voted for himself in the US presidential election and appeared to concede defeat in his 2020 bid as he posted the image of an electoral map with the caption ‘WELP KANYE 2024’.

Kanye West’s bid for the White House comes to an end after a long-shot campaign marked by erratic statements. Experts believe that Kanye West might end up hurting Joe Biden by siphoning some Black votes from the Democrat.

Late on Tuesday evening (local time), Kanye West appeared to concede his 2020 bid had ended but suggested his quest was not over. He posted a picture of himself in front of an electoral map saying "WELP KANYE 2024."

Earlier, Kanye West had tweeted that he was "voting for the first time in my life for the President of the United States, and it's for someone I truly trust ... me."

Kanye West later posted a video of himself casting his vote in Cody, Wyoming, where he wrote himself in on the ballot.

Kanye West got onto the presidential ballot in a handful of states, although not in battlegrounds like Florida, Pennsylvania and Michigan. He has spent recent weeks instructing followers how to vote for him as a write-in candidate elsewhere.

Kanye West's celebrity wife, Kim Kardashian, did not appear to be supporting his bid. She has given no public endorsements of her husband and on Tuesday she retweeted a message about voter hot lines from Democratic vice-presidential contender Kamala Harris.

Update: Maradona diagnosed with blood clot on his brain

Soccer legend Diego Maradona has been diagnosed with a blood clot on his brain and his doctors say they will perform emergency surgery ASAP.

The 60-year-old Argentinian star was hospitalized Monday in his home country because he wasn't feeling well -- complaining of dehydration and depression.

Doctors began running tests, including an MRI, which revealed a subdural hematoma, also known as a brain bleeds -- usually caused by a traumatic head injury.

If not treated, the bleeding and added pressure on the brain from the hematoma can be fatal, according to WebMD.

Maradona's doctor, Leopoldo Luque, will perform the surgery and seemed to be optimistic about Maradona's chances, when he spoke with the media.

"This is a routine surgery that even [Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, Vice President of Argentina] has undergone," Luque said.

As for how Maradona suffered the injury, Dr. Luque believes it likely happened over the past month.

"We did an MRI one month ago and everything was normal. We repeated the study and we saw the subdural hematoma. These types of injuries are tough to spot, I don't know if he suffered some kind of hit or fall."

Dr. Luque says Maradona is "alert" and "not upset" -- and has signed off on the surgery.

Back in the day, Maradona was considered one of the best soccer players in the world -- leading Argentina to a World Cup in 1986.

After his playing career, he struggled with drug addiction, alcohol abuse and health issues and has been hospitalized multiple times.
