Man ‘kills, buries’ lover in Lagos

Operatives of the Lagos Police Command have arrested 29-year-old, Segun Titilayo, for allegedly killing, burying his lover.

The deceased, Oritoke Manni, 26, who was a bar attendant at KC Hotel, Apakin Town, Lekki, was declared missing last month after she was said to have gone to Titilayo’s house.

The Nation gathered that Titilayo allegedly called Manni to come to his 29, Otulu Town, Lekki residence but never returned.

Following her disappearance, a missing person report was made at the police and a search commenced with no trace of her until November 7 when her decomposing body was excavated by a Caterpillar at Adron Homes construction site in Otulu.

In the course of the investigation, it was learnt that police found out Titilayo went to the deceased’s place of work to ask after her, a move being considered as a possible cover-up for the alleged crime.

Confirming the suspect’s arrest Thursday, spokesman, Olumuyiwa Adejobi said an engineer, David Adegbago, of Adron Homes and Properties, reported to the Police Station at Akodo that while the company was excavating its site at Otolu Town, their Caterpillar exhumed a decomposing corpse.

“The police detectives swung into action and the corpse was identified by the staff of the hotel to be Oritoke’s. The corpse was evacuated to a public morgue for autopsy.

“The police placed a manhunt on the suspect and he was arrested. He is being detained at the SCID Panti and giving useful information to help the police investigation.

“The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Hakeem Odumosu, has condemned the crime and directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State CID, DCP Yetunde Longe to carry out a thorough investigation into the matter.

“CP Hakeem Odumosu cautions the youths, especially ladies, against keeping unscrupulous and destructive friends. He also encourages Lagosians to promote moral values and shun crimes and criminality.”

JUST IN: Obaseki’s ADC collapses during inauguration

The Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, in ceremonial police uniform, and a female para-military officer, also in uniform (names withheld), earlier today collapsed at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin, during the second-term inauguration of the governor and his deputy, Philip Shaibu, thereby causing commotion.

The collapse of the ADC, a Superintendent of Police (SP), and the female officer happened around 12 noon.

The para-military officer first collapsed, but she was quickly revived, while the ADC slumped while Obaseki was midway into reading his seven-page inauguration speech.

The immediate Edo Commissioner for Health, Dr. Patrick Okundia, and some operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) later revived the ADC.

I was completely in debt after Game of Thrones- Jason Momoa reveals

Popular Hollywood actor, Jason Momoa, famed for his role in Game of Thrones, Justice League and Aquaman, has revealed that he was completely in debt after his role in HBO’s hit series, Game of Thrones.

“I mean, we were starving after Game of Thrones. I couldn’t get work. It is very challenging when you have babies and you are completely in debt,” the actor revealed in an interview with Instyle.com.

Momoa is married to actress Lisa Bonet and they are the parents of two children together. He is also step-dad to actress Zoe Kravitz, Bonet’s daughter with ex-husband, rocker Lenny Kravitz.

However, he noted that his fortuned improved in 2016 when he was cast in Justice League. Two years later, he headlined the megahit movie Aquaman.

He has got plenty of acting gigs now, including the second season of his Apple TV+ series, “See,” and he also appears in the film “Dune.” Now he’s fully booked until about 2024.

Momoa first got into the acting business at 19-years-old when he heard that Baywatch Hawaii was having an open casting call. “So I went down with all my cousins. We just wanted to meet chicks. About 1,300 people showed up.” Offered one of the lead roles, he dropped his plan to study marine biology and became an actor.

Former Ghanaian President, Rawlings, dies of COVID-19

Former President Jerry Rawlings of Ghana has died of coronavirus-related complications at the age of 73, according to multiple reports from Ghanaian media.

The development comes less than a month after he buried his mother.

Rawlings, who is one of the most respected African leaders, was a military leader in Ghana and later became a politician who ruled the country from 1981 to 2001.

The former President initially came to power in Ghana as a flight lieutenant of the Ghana Air Force following a coup d’état in 1979.

Prior to that, he led an unsuccessful coup attempt against the ruling military government on 15 May 1979, just five weeks before scheduled democratic elections were due to take place.

He was until his death, the African Union envoy to Somalia.

Rawlings as leader of Ghana launched a massive anti-corruption campaign that purged the nation of corrupt political elements.

A former Nigerian Presidential candidate and media mogul, Dele Momodu, who has close links to the Ghanaian Presidency, confirmed the development on Twitter.

“The saddest news of this year. My God. Former President Jerry John Rawlings of Ghana has passed on. I’m completely devastated. Good night, an African hero.”

UK responds to #ENDSARS petition against FG

UK Government and Parliament on Thursday responded to the #ENDSARS petition by some Nigerians against the Federal government.

With about 219,702 signatures, the petition seeks to implement sanctions against the Nigerian Government and officials, over abuse of power by the operatives of the now disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, and the alleged shooting at protestors calling for SARS disbandment.

Reacting, UK said it awaits the outcome of Nigerian investigations into reports of police brutality, noting that it would not publicly speculate on future sanctions designations.

“The UK Government is deeply concerned by violence during recent protests in Nigeria, which tragically claimed lives. Our thoughts are with the families of all those affected.

The Foreign Secretary issued a statement on 21 October calling for an end to the violence and for the Nigerian Government to urgently investigate reports of brutality by its security forces and hold those responsible to account.

The Minister for Africa tweeted on 16 October, noting the Nigerian people’s democratic and peaceful calls for reforms, and again on 21 October, encouraging the Nigerian authorities to restore peace and address concerns over brutality towards civilians. He reiterated these messages when he spoke to Foreign Minister Onyeama on 23 October. The British High Commissioner in Abuja has also raised the protests with representatives of the Nigerian Government and will continue to do so.

We welcome President Buhari’s decision to disband the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) and the establishment of judicial panels of inquiry to investigate alleged incidents of brutality by the security services. They must investigate all incidents, including in Lagos, fully. The Minister for Africa tweeted on 29 October stressing the importance of the police and military’s cooperation with the panels. He raised this, and the need for the panels to urgently start investigations, when he spoke to the Governor of Lagos on 11 November.

The UK Government will continue to work with the Nigerian Government and international and civil society partners to support justice, accountability and a more responsive policing model in Nigeria. We will continue to push for the Nigerian security services to uphold human rights and the rule of law, investigate all incidents of brutality, illegal detentions and use of excessive force, and hold those responsible to account.

On 6 July, the Government established the Global Human Rights sanctions regime by laying regulations in Parliament under the Sanctions and Anti-Money Laundering Act 2018. In a statement to Parliament, the Foreign Secretary set out in full the scope of the UK’s new Global Human Rights sanctions regime. He announced the first tranche of designations, as well as the Government’s approach to future designations.

This sanctions regime will give the UK a powerful new tool to hold to account those involved in serious human rights violations or abuses. The sanctions regime is not intended to target individual countries. It will allow for sanctions to be imposed on individuals and entities involved in serious human rights violations or abuses around the world.

We will continue to consider potential designations under the Global Human Rights sanctions regime. It is longstanding practice not to speculate on future sanctions designations as to do so could reduce the impact of the designations.

The UK Government will keep all evidence and potential listings under close review.”

Woman who married a man 30-years older than her says her family have questioned their relationship and his daughter does not approve it too

A woman who married a man 30 years her senior has revealed that her family has accused her of trying to replace her father - while her husband has admitted his adult daughter is horrified by their age-gap romance.

Co-parenting coordinator Renee Chicoye, 29, and warehouse manager Florida, attended the same local church together for years but had not taken the time to speak to each other before they ended up sitting alongside each other at a movie night in August 2019.

'I served at church as a kids ministry greeter and he was in the church traffic team so we always said hi but never had a long conversation until our church had a movie night,' Renee said.

'In the movie our arms touched, I got nervous and my heart started beating fast,' she recalled. 'I noticed he didn't move away so I didn't either.

'The next day I met with my girlfriends and told them how I sat next to the guy with the cool salt and peppered colored hair and nice smile.'

'One of my girls told me to go for it and I didn't hesitate,' she added. 'I thought we were moving insanely fast the entire time, but it just didn't feel wrong so I didn't stop it.'

A week after the movie, the pair exchanged numbers and began dating. Less than a year later they were married on July 25, 2020.

'His hair just made me want to know about his life,' Renee said.

A member of Renee's distant family pulled Alberto aside during a family holiday to tell him that he should know better than to start a relationship with a woman half his age.

'One member of my family questioned why I was looking for another dad when I already had one,' she admitted. 'Others wondered what would happen in 15 years' time if my son wanted someone to run around and play basketball with him but my partner of choice is too old.

'It was a rocky start and we didn't give them a lot of time to adjust, but they're our biggest supporters now.

With Renee being a big fan of social media, the couple hasn't been immune from ignorant comments online. Their massive age gap has led to some strangers to call them names.

'Since I'm so public, on TikTok we've received comments about how I'm after money or a green card,' Renee explained. 'People call him grandpa and think I'm his daughter. We hear stereotypes like "gold digger" or "cradle snatcher," too.'

Renee said the only problem in their relationship is that they connect in different ways, with her often making TikTok videos or posting pictures of them together on Facebook.

'Being so public with my affection is my way of showing my love for him,' she said. 'Since he's thirty years older, he spends time differently, playing card games or reading the bible.

'It's hard to be on the same page sometimes about how love is to be shown.'

Alberto admitted that their sudden blossoming romance hasn't been easy for his daughter Isabella, who is just 10 years younger than Renee and finds it difficult to understand why her dad would want to be with a much younger woman.

Renee has a three-year-old son, East, and members of Alberto's family questioned if he really wanted to go through the young parenting stage again, so many years after doing it the first time with his now-adult daughter.

'Going from being a single mom at 25, to having someone around who had parental knowledge to help when my son cries in order to give me a break has been a huge benefit,' she noted.

'Because my son is still young, he requires a lot of attention so trying to find personal time to build our relationship isn't always easy.

'But Alberto puts me before everything and is always thinking of me. It's hard to even believe anyone could offer themselves so much to someone else.'

The couple insists that love doesn't have boundaries, and, if anything, their 30 year age gap has made their relationship more interesting as they approach life from very different perspectives.

Alaafin attempted to kidnap me, Queen Anu confirms breakup

Queen Anu, one of the wives of the Alaafin of Oyo Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, has confirmed that she has walked out of her marriage in order to be “free” from “bondage.”

Anu, however, noted that she is being threatened and constantly harassed by the monarch for making the decision.

In a message released via her Instagram account on Wednesday, Anu stated that she can no longer keep quiet because the monarch had attempted to kidnap her.

The mother of two further warned that if anything happened to her and her children, the public should hold the monarch responsible.

“This is an outcry to protect my life. That I left the palace should not warrant a threat to my life. I can never deny my children the right to their father, however, it is only motherly to have them with me.

“I am appalled that my family is being harassed because my location is unknown to the king. The attempt to also have me kidnapped failed, and I can no longer keep my silence.

”I refuse to live in bondage and will do anything within my human right to be free. I just want to live and be the mother of my children,” she wrote.

Afghan woman eyes are gouged with a knife by HER OWN FATHER for daring to get a job

An Afghan woman had her eyes gouged with a knife after she enraged her father by getting a job and he allegedly  tipped off the Taliban.

Khatera, 33, was attacked outside a police station in Afghanistan’s central Ghazni province where she worked as an officer in the crime branch.

She said three men dismounted a motorbike as she left the station and began stabbing at her eyes with a knife.

She had begun working at the station three months earlier, fulfilling a lifelong dream to work outside the home despite strong opposition from her father.

She took the job after securing the support of her husband, but said her father kept up his opposition.

“Many times, as I went to duty, I saw my father following me,” she said.

"He started contacting the Taliban in the nearby area and asked them to prevent me from going to my job."

She said her father gave the Taliban a copy of her ID card to prove she worked for the police, and that he called her throughout the day of the attack asking for her location.

Describing the moment she woke up in the hospital, Khatera said: “I asked the doctors, why I can’t see anything?

"They told me that my eyes are still bandaged because of the wounds. But at that moment, I knew my eyes had been taken from me."

She said the attack has meant not just the loss of her sight but of the independent career she always wanted.

“I wish I had served in police at least a year," she said.

"If this had happened to me after that, it would have been less painful.

"It happened too soon. I only got to work and live my dream for three months."

Ghazni’s police spokesman confirmed they believe the attack was carried out by Taliban militants, a claim the Taliban has denied, and that Khatera's father has been taken into custody.

Khatera and her family, including five children, are now living and hiding out in capital Kabul, where she is recovering from the attack.
