The Speaker of the House of Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila has revealed the identity of the security operative who killed a vendor, Ifeanyi Okereke on Thursday at the Federal Secretariat in Abuja.

It was earlier reported that Okereke was fatally shot on Thursday by a security operative attached to Femi Gbajabiamila, House of Representatives Speaker.

The Surulere representative in a statement also confirmed that the officer has been suspended.

In the wake of the incident, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command in a statement claimed the shooter was not a policeman.

Law students sue ASUU for N10 billion over prolonged strike

Law Students Association of Nigeria has dragged the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), before the Federal High Court Abuja, challenging what it described as the incessant strikes of the union.

In the suit which was filed at the court on Friday, the association is seeking an order to compel ASUU members to return to the classroom.

It also seeks an order of perpetual injunction to restrain ASUU from embarking on further strikes.

The suit which was filed by the President of the association, Mr Blessing Agbomhere on behalf of other members asks the court to compel ASUU to pay N10 billion compensation to Nigerian students.

This, the association claims is for allegedly infringing on the right of the students to education as guaranteed by Section 18 of the 1999 Constitution and Article 17 of African Charter on Human and Peoples Rights.

The association further asks the court to order ASUU to pay damages to all Nigerian students for the psychological and emotional torture meted out to them as well as the loss of valuable time following the continuous strike.

Agbomwere said that the suit was sequel to its findings that ASUU members had been short- changing the Federal Government by teaching in more than one university.

He said his investigation also revealed that members of the union were engaging in consultancy services in oil companies and collecting multiple salaries at the detriment of the Nigerian students.

Apart from ASUU, the association also joined Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi,

ASUU President, the Minister for Education, the Minister for Labour

and Employment, the Attorney-General of Federation and the Federal Government as 2nd to 6th defendants in the suit.

The Law students are seeking among other reliefs, a declaration that the strike of the union is a breach of the right of members of the association to education.

“A declaration that the indefinite strike embarked upon by the 1st and 2nd defendants since March 2020, leading to the closure of government owned universities, which has detrimentally and negatively impacted on plaintiff’s learning and the smooth operation of academic calendar of universities, is a brazen infraction of the plaintiff’s right to education.

“An order of mandatory injunction compelling the 1st and 2nd defendants to call off the strike and return to the status quo ante bellum whilst negotiation for amicable resolution of the issues in contention or among the defendants is ongoing.

“An order of perpetual injunction restraining the 1st and 2nd defendants whether by themselves, servants, agents and/or privies from further declaring or embarking on indefinite and incessant strikes.”

The students are also seeking an order directing the 3rd to 6th defendants to re-open government owned universities and to honour their contractual agreements with the 1st and 2nd defendants in the overall interest of the plaintiffs.

The students are also asking the court to award the sum of N10 billion against the union.

“This is to serve as general and exemplary damages for the loss of valuable time, opportunity, mental torture, psychological anguish and general deprivation which the plaintiff has suffered or is likely to be exposed to on graduation.”

In his statement of claim, Agbomwere said that he is a Nigerian citizen, a final year law student of Baze University and currently the President of the Law Students Association of Nigeria (LAWSAN).

He further averred that the suit was sequel to a mandate given to him by the Senate of Law Students’ Association of Nigeria (LAWSAN), to institute this suit in a representative capacity against the defendants.

No date has however, been fixed to hear the suit.

ASUU has been on strike since March 2.

Officials of the union have been in a protracted negotiation with the Federal Government since then.

EndSARS: 100 civilians, policemen, soldiers died – Nigeria finally gives official figure

The federal government has finally released official figures of Nigerians killed in the violence that occured after the EndSARS protest went awry.

Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, provided the details on Thursday.

He accused CNN of looking the other way even though civilians and security operatives died during the civil disorder.

“In its jaundiced reporting, CNN was blind to the fact that six soldiers and 37 policemen were killed in unprovoked attacks.”

Mohammed said despite arresting hordes of looters during the violence in Lagos, the Army counseled and treated them humanely before hand over to the police.

He stressed that the same cannot be said of those that killed security personnel in a barbaric manner.

“Six soldiers and 37 policemen were killed all over the country during the crisis. This is in addition to 196 policemen who were injured; 164 police vehicles that were destroyed and 134 police stations that were razed.”

Mohammed lambasted human rights organizations, adding that they became suspect after “ignoring” the murder of law enforcement officers during the crisis.

He announced that the of unrest “left 57 civilians dead, 269 private/corporate facilities burnt/looted/vandalized, 243 government facilities burnt/vandalized and 81 government warehouses looted, and instead continued to dwell on the bodiless and bloodless ‘massacre’ at Lekki Toll Gate.”

Mohammed said they did not see anything wrong in the public and private properties that were burnt or looted.

The minister noted that all they could see in their “biased view” of the whole situation was a “hoax massacre”.

Blackface blasts Tuface over the death of his personal driver

Blackface has blasted 2face over the death of his personal driver -- a man he says they met together.

According to Blackface they had met Benny who later became 2face's personal driver when things got better for the singer. He says he only just got to know Benny had died because 2face said no word to him. While mourning Benny and describing how the Plantashunboiz met him, Blackface wrote;

What he wrote below....

“It was sometime around 1999 the band #Plantashunboiz had just qualified to perform in 30 different shows round the country and the band had been given a cheque of #170,000 Naira advance from #300,000 Naira so we headed off to lagos island to a micro finance bank but we didnt have no money to pay for transportation and we couldn’t take bus because we were about to cash out on our first pay cheque from the #Rothmans #MegaGroove so we got dressed and waved at a taxi…behold who stopped…? It was #Benny In 504 saloon Car

We asked him to take us to the island and showed him the address on the cheque…we set off…. when we got to the bank I went in and because I didnt have no form of identification I couldn’t cash the money…I asked Benny to take us back to festac where we then made ID cards and got ready for the next day…Benny left without any money and came back the following morning to pick us up again..still without any money for fuel or payment for yesterday’s movement

We went to the bank and the money was paid and we paid Benny his money and he was very happy .. we were able to pay for our recording sessions and the rest is history……#Benny Became a member of the Plantashun Family and was the safest driver I ever met…He became 2face personal driver after while and today I just heard he had passed on…and @official2baba couldn’t reach out to tell me Benny Passed away ??? DAMN I FEEL BAD ONLY TO FIND THAT OUT TODAY AND THIS MINUTE

ITS SAD HOW WE DONT REGARD PEOPLE THAT HAVE BEEN THERE FOR US FROM THE START BUT A GOOD HEART WILL ALWAYS DO THE GOOD IT KNOWS……ITS EITHER YOU APPRECIATE IT OR TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE GOD MADE HUMAN #RIP BENNY ….GOD BLESS YOUR FAMILY AND THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING … I NEVER WILL FORGET YOU…..AND THE WORLD WONT EITHER

DJ Switch asks Governor Sanwo-Olu to tell Nigerians truth about Lekki massacre

Obianuju Catherine Udeh better known as DJ Switch has described Nigeria as a dictatorship pretending to be a democracy.

Udeh live-streamed the shooting of peaceful protesters at the Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos and has since had to go into hiding after the Nigerian Government started to crackdown on witnesses and those, who promoted the anti-police-brutality demonstrations.

Speaking with CNN’s Becky Anderson, she asked Lagos governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to tell Nigerians the truth of what really happened because families are looking for their loved ones.

She said, “I do not hold what the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria says to heart. Nigeria is a dictatorship with a democratic face.

I think that is primarily to please the international community. It is our right to protest for the change that we demand. This government has used force from the beginning.

“They started with infiltrating a peaceful protest with things but that did not work. Then they moved to bring the military in. So, the same government that says that it has banned SARS for close to four years are saying that it wants to have a dialogue.

“The President has not even addressed the incident that happened at the toll gate, so I do not take his words to heart. They must show accountability.

“With no due respect, I actually challenge the governor of Lagos State to just say the truth. They know the truth and they have conflicting stories with each other. Nigerians have died and this is not a time to play games.

“Families are looking for their loved ones. To be honest with you in regards to me, I do not know how to feel because on one hand, I am grateful that I am alive today but on the other hand I don’t know if to say I am lucky because it seems that the others were not lucky.

“The governor owes a responsibility to the citizens of Lagos State to say the truth.

“What I experienced that day was the worst experience of my life. The Nigerian Army that is supposed to protect us came with no warning; none.

“There was no representative to speak to us. We heard gunshots from behind the toll gate because we were at the other side of the toll gate. We heard the gunshots and people were running so what we did was to sit down, stay still and wave our flags.

“We believed that if we waved our flags, they would know that we were not there to cause any harm but to express our rights. There was no warning, they just started shooting and people were just dropping. I cannot explain that it was just a chaotic scene that most times, I find it difficult to close my eyes without seeing those things.

“After they left, the Nigeria Police came, SARS to be precise. From the uniforms we could see, especially a man that wore white, I don’t know who he was but he had a pistol. He was just shooting at us and we had to run for our lives. That is the short story.”

#EndSARS: Lekki incident was a 'massacre without bodies' - Lai Mohammed

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed on Thursday said the October 20 Lekki shootings were a “massacre without bodies”, reiterating the federal government’s position that military men did not shoot at protesters, despite damning evidence to the contrary.

The Minister made the remark at a press conference in Abuja.

His comments come a day after US-based media, CNN, published a report which, using cellphone videos obtained from witnesses, showed Nigerian soldiers shooting at unarmed protesters at the Lekki toll-gate.

Mr. Mohammed tagged the CNN report as promoting a baseless and preconceived narrative.

He said that the mainstream media should confirm the veracity of footage used before airing.

He also added that the government will work with stakeholders to curb fake news on social media.

Wike reveals another PDP Governor will follow Umahi to APC

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State says another Peoples Democratic Party governor is planning to join Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi, in the All Progressives Congress.

Wike said this on Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today’ programme on Wednesday.

The governor said, “I can tell you there is one PDP governor that will leave. He is not leaving because of anything but he will come up with an excuse.

“The point is that these are the people who have been playing anti-party, who have been romancing with the APC in the night and coming to the PDP in the daytime. My problem with our party is that when you speak the truth, they will want to crucify you. I have raised this issue several times.”

When asked to reveal the identity of the PDP governor planning to defect, Wike said, “I won’t tell you that. But you journalists know.”

The Rivers State governor said Umahi, who recently defected to the APC had always been disloyal to the PDP.

He stated that during a particular virtual meeting of PDP governors, Umahi boasted that he helped the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), to garner votes in the 2019 presidential election.

The Rivers governor added, “All of us are aware that Governor Umahi has been romancing with APC for long. We had a virtual meeting of PDP governors. I have never seen that in my life.

“Governor Umahi in that meeting, to the surprise of many governors, said ‘there is nothing anybody can do to stop me’. I promised President Buhari I would give him 35 per cent votes’.

“I never knew that people never voted in Ebonyi; that votes were allocated and Governor Umahi determined who gets what percentage.”

Wike reiterated his position that Umahi left because he wanted to be President and not because the PDP marginalised the South-East as he claimed.

He said the PDP gave the South-East key positions while it was in power, including the Senate Presidency and the Chief of Army Staff which it had never had before.

Japanese singer suspended over extra-marital affair

A veteran Japanese singer has been suspended by his agency after admitting to an extra-marital affair.

Johnny & Associates said Masahiko Kondo's "thoughtless" behaviour deserved "strict punishment".

The 56-year-old has since been barred from all work engagements.

It is common for public figures in Japan to face censure and strict penalties after an affair is exposed, but some people have questioned the professional repercussions of this.

Mr Kondo's relationship was first reported by a gossip magazine last week.

Johnny & Associates, one of Japan's most powerful talent agencies, said that as a married man Mr Kondo's "behaviour was thoughtless" and "lacked awareness and a sense of responsibility".

"After careful consideration we decided that strict punishment was needed," it said in a statement.

Mr Kondo, who was a J-Pop idol in the 1980s, had apologised and offered to step back to reflect on his behaviour and "to become a better person", the agency added.
