Woman assaults 12-year old boy with hot knife over missing N5000 [they are pictured]

Men of Ogun State Police Command on Monday arrested a 40-year-old woman, Iswat Taofeek, for allegedly dehumanising a 12-year-old boy over alleged N5,000 theft.

The woman, who resides at No 36 Isoka Kugba Abeokuta, reportedly inflicted injuries on the boy using a hot knife, on the claim that the boy stole her missing N5,000.

Following a complaint to Adatan Police Station by her neighbours, the woman was picked up by the police around 8.30am on Monday.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who disclosed the incident in a statement on Monday, said while the neighbours were lodging a report at the police station, when “the little boy fainted at the station and was quickly rushed to a hospital for medical attention.”

Oyeyemi said, “On the strength of the report, the DPO Adatan Division, CSP Samuel Aladegoroye, detailed his detectives to the woman’s house where she was promptly arrested.

“On interrogation, the suspect explained that the little boy is a son to her brother-in-law and he had been living with her for some time.

“She stated further that she kept a sum of N5,000 somewhere in the house but couldn’t find it and she believed that it was the boy who stole it and that was why she put a knife on fire until it was red hot and used it to burn the little boy all over his body.”

Dr. Anu of Med Contour ''suspended'' from the medical profession in Nigeria

According to popular online doctor, Dr Olufunmilayo on Twitter, Dr Anu Adepoju of Med Contour has been suspended.

He broke the news saying the doctor has been suspended from the medical profession in Nigeria following multiple claims of malpractice and botched surgeries at her clinic, Med Contour.

Recall Dr Anu has been in the news with some saying a beauty queen died after she had a cosmetic surgery on her in 2018. More recently a lady who was allegedly operated upon by Dr Anu was rushed to LUTH due to complications from her cosmetic surgery. She eventually died.

It's said LUTH petitioned the medical panel following the death of the victim. And the battle began.

Also popular social media personality, Omotola Taiwo Temilade, popularly known as Omohtee, called out Dr Anu following a botched surgery that left her with complications.

Dr Anu has continued to insist that she's a qualified cosmetic surgeon and has undergone the necessary training. She said she is a graduate of University of Lagos College of Medicine Class of 2015, after which she went abroad to study cosmetic surgery, making her a Physician member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery.

She has said patients' complications is their failure to follow post-surgery care guideline she gave them.

Dr Olufunmilayo shared the news of her suspension writing: "Dr. Anu of Med Contour has now been suspended from the medical profession in Nigeria. Remember her viral story was all over social media when Omohtee said she ruined her buttocks. Dr Anu was alleged of also killing a beauty queen in 2018 who she did surgery on.

"Dr. Anuoluwapo Olufunmi Adepoju has been suspended from the medical profession in Nigeria with effect from 5th November 2020. The suspension Order was issued by the Medical and Dental Practitioners Investigation Panel pursuant to powers conferred on it by s15(3)c of the Medical and Dental Practitioners Act Cap M8 LFN 2004.

"She graduated from College of Medicine Unilag 2017. By December 2018 she carried out a Plastic Reconstructive Aesthetic Surgery procedure on a patient who developed complications and went on to die from the complications.

"She was a House Officer when she carried out the procedure. Her suspension is till further notice. It is pending the determination of the case by the Medical and Dental Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal."

Dr Olufunmilayo added: "If you read the Dr Anu story earlier this year on Twitter, this is to confirm she has now been suspended from medical practice. She only graduated from The College of Medicine UniLag 2017. Then she did butt enlargement operation on a beauty queen in 2018. Sadly the patient died."

Stop saying Amen to prayers made in tongues - Uti Nwachukwu begs followers

Reality star and media personality, Uti Nwachukwu is out to school us and we are loving it, lol.

Uti took to twitter to enlighten his followers about speaking in tongues.

He says many Christians speak in tongue today and he feels they have abused it. He also questioned the reason why many can speak in tongue but almost none can interpret it.

Before he started his sermon, he apologised to fanatics and actually told them to move pass.

Read his thread below...

''I find it sooo weird that a LOT of Christians speak in tongues, But till today I have not met ONE person that can interprete the tongues.

Afterall the Bible(1Cor12 V10) says Holy Spirit gifts some with tongues and others with interpretation? Where are the INTERPRETERS?Speaking in tongues has been abused so much in the Christian community because its SOOO EASY TO FAKE IT.

Its way more difficult to fake interpretation so they emphasise of speaking! Its so bad that you are made to feel like an infidel if you can’t speak in tongues! Whyyy???Please I beg you,IF You DO NOT UNDERSTAND whAt is being prayed in tongues,DO NOT SAY AMEN A prayer is a contract o!

Don’t forget Jacob stole Esau’s Blessings and was still God’s own Protect yourself! Ur MOG might be sayin-Transfer all their blessings to me U go come agree say amen Afterall, would you sign a ‘supposed’ life changing contract in a foreign Language that you can’t understand without an Interpreter present?

So why would you say amen to a prophecy and declaration that sounds like gibberish to you ? Anyway na revelation wey I receive i de yan Anyone who speaks in a tongue edifies themselves, but the one who prophesies edifies the church I wld like every one of u to speak in tongues, but I would rather have u prophesy.

The one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks in tongues, UNLESS someone interprets1COR14(V6) Now, brothers and sisters, if I come to you and speak in tongues, what good will I be to you, unless I bring you some revelation or knowledge or prophecy or word of instruction?

So will some pray publicly in tongues and you shout amen?? Do you knw wht they saying?1Cor14(V9) Unless you speak intelligible words with your tongue, how will anyone know what you are saying? You will just be speaking into the air.

Undoubtedly there are all sorts of languages in the world, yet none of them is without meaning. If then I do not grasp the meaning-of wht someone is saying, I am a foreigner to the speaker, and the speaker is a foreigner to me Since u are eager for gifts of the Spirit, try to excel in those that build up the church For this reason the one who speaks in a tongue shld pray that they may interpret what they say WISDOM IS PROFITABLE!

STOP SAYING AMEN TO PRAYERS AND DECLARATIONS MADE IN TONGUES THAT U DO NOT UNDERSTAND STOP FAKING TONGUES.

IF U HAVE NOT BEEN GIFTED, KEEP ASKING. SEEKING AND KNOCKING. STOP THE DECEIT OF GOD’S CHILDREN SO SAYS THE LORD OUR GOD. ''

Seven people shot inside Brooklyn apartment building in ‘targeted’ attack

One person was killed when seven people were shot at a Brooklyn apartment building on Sunday night in what appeared to be a targeted attack, police and sources said.

Bullets started flying just after 11 p.m. at the building on Albany Avenue near Fulton Street in Bedford-Stuyvesant, cops said.

Witnesses said the shots rang out during a party in the building, and teenagers were seen fleeing outside afterwards.

One of the victims was a 14-year-old girl who suffered a gunshot wound to the chest, a witness said.

The wounded were taken to the hospital where a 20-year-old woman died from her injuries and a 16-year-old boy was in critical condition.

The ages of the remaining victims were not immediately clear.

Police are investigating if the violence on Albany Avenue is connected to an earlier shooting outside a Sweet 16 celebration in East New York that left a 17-year-old wounded, according to law enforcement sources.

The teen was struck in the leg at the corner of Liberty Avenue and Crystal Street at about 9 p.m., police said. He was taken to Brookdale Hospital in stable condition.

Also on Sunday night, another 17-year-old boy was wounded in Brownsville, Brooklyn in a suspected drive-by shooting at about 9:45 p.m., police said.

He was hit in the neck outside 317 Livonia Avenue and taken to Brookdale Hospital in stable condition. Two suspects are being questioned in his shooting, sources said.

Tyler Perry GIVES Thanksgiving food to thousands in Atlanta

Thousands of families lined up for hours in Atlanta on Saturday for a chance to get a free Thanksgiving food and gift card from media mogul Tyler Perry on Sunday morning.

Cars stretched for miles in multiple directions Sunday, as thousands of families waited outside Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta for Thanksgiving food and gift cards.

The drive-up event -- held at the film and TV impresario’s Tyler Perry Studios and dubbed #TPSGiving -- promised to feed 5,000 families between 8 a.m. and noon.

Many people arrived in line Saturday afternoon to ensure they received the much-needed holiday assistance after organizers warned resources were limited.

“Although we wish that we could feed everyone in need, we will close the line at the 5,000th family,” the event description read.”

Jeanette Walton told FOX 5 Atlanta why she arrived at 3 p.m. Saturday – 15 hours in advance.

“I’ve been blessed in where my job has allowed me to work from home, but still I’ve had other family members that have lost jobs and had to move in,” Walton explained. “That’s really why I’m here because when you have to take on the burden of others, you find yourself in need yourself.”

People were asked to wear their masks when communicating with volunteers, and TPS limited each car to two families.

It’s not the first high-profile act of generosity from Perry this year.

Court remands Ndume in prison custody over Maina’s escape

The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered that the Senator representing Borno South, Ali Ndume, should be remanded at the Kuje Correctional Center, following his inability to produce the former Chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team, Abdulrasheed Maina, whom he stood surety for.

Maina is answering to a 12-count money laundering charge the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, preferred against him and a firm, Common Input Properties & Investment Limited.

EFCC alleged that he used account of the firm and laundered funds to the tune of about N2billion, part of which he used to acquire landed properties in Abuja.

Maina spent over seven months on remand at the Kuje Correctional Center before the court released on bail on July 24, after Senator Ndume agreed to stand surety for him He had since September 29, refused to appear before the court for continuation of his trial.

In a ruling on Monday, trial Justice Okon Abang stressed that Ndume had in an affidavit of means he deposed to on May 5, agreed to pay the N500m bail on Maina’s head, should the Defendant jump bail.

The court stressed that it had on four separate dates, afforded Ndume the opportunity to show cause why he should not be remanded in custody or made to forfeit the bail sum to the Federal Government, owing to the continued absence of the Defendant. Justice Abang noted that though Ndume had on November 18, pleaded for an adjournment to enable him to file necessary processes to defend himself, he failed to do so.

According to the Judge, instead of filing processes, Ndume, wrote a letter to the Deputy Chief Registrar of the Court, requesting for seven documents that included the entire record of proceedings in the matter.

The court held that EFCC’s application for Ndume to be remanded in custody and for him to forfeit the bail bond succeeded. Consequently, relying on section 179 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015, the court, ordered that Ndume should be remanded at the Kuje Correctional Center, pending when he forfeits the N500m bail sum to FG as he agreed to do in his affidavit. Alternatively, the court directed FG to sale a property situated at Plot158 Cadastral Zone AO2, Asokoro, which belongs to Ndume.

It said the property should be sold for the bail sum, with full payment made into the federation account. The court said the third alternative was for Ndume to produce Maina in court for continuation of his trial.

Justice Abang ordered that Ndume should remain in detention, pending the fulfilment of any of the conditions.

The matter was subsequently adjourned till Tuesday for Maina’s trial to continue in his absence. The court had on the last adjourned date, issued a bench warrant for security agencies to arrest Maina anywhere he is found.

Meantime, immediately after the proceeding Senator Ndume who wore white agbada with matching cap, was led out of the court by officials of the Nigerian Correctional Service.

138 NYSC members test positive for COVID-19 — NCDC

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Monday said that 138 members of the National Youth Service  Corps (NYSC) had so far tested positive for the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu, Director General, NCDC, said this at the National Briefing on COVID-19 on Monday in Abuja. Ihekweazu said that none of those who tested positive was allowed into the camps.

According to him, 34,785 corps members and members of the camp communities have been tested with 138 turning positive representing 0.4 per cent prevalence.

“It means one out of 200 people,” he explained. The NCDC boss said that those who tested positive were either managed at home or in a treatment centre, depending on if they had symptoms and what state they were in.

With talks between striking university teachers and the Federal  Government progressed getting more positive, he said that the next challenge would be how to work with education stakeholders to ensure the safe reopening of universities.

“Universities are slightly riskier and present unique challenges, but we are confident that we can address this as we have done in other sectors like aviation,”  Ihekweazu said.

Lekki shooting: Nigerian Government formally writes CNN

The Nigerian government, on Monday, asked the American based news outlet, the Cable News Network (CNN) to reexamine its investigative report on the Lekki shootings, which it (Nigerian government) had earlier dismissed as unfair and inaccurate.

The federal government had earlier condemned the report, likening it to “a poor piece of journalistic work.”

In a letter addressed to the Vice President of CNN International Communications, Jonathan Hawkins, signed by the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, the federal government said “it reserves the right to take action within its laws to prevent CNN from aggravating the #EndSARS crisis.”

“As a form of remediation, Nigeria’s Federal Government demands an immediate and exhaustive investigation from CNN into its ‘investigative’ report on the Lekki Toll Gate incident to determine, among others, its authenticity, whether or not it met the basic standards of journalism and also the selective use of unverified social media videos to manipulate public opinion.

“While it is up to CNN to accede or not, please note that the Federal Government reserves the right to take any action within its laws to prevent CNN from aggravating the #EndSARS crisis with unprofessional, irresponsible, one-sided, inciting and sensational reporting that is capable of pitching Nigerians against themselves and setting the country on fire,” he said.

RE: HOW A BLOODY NIGHT OF BULLETS QUASHED A YOUNG PROTEST MOVEMENT

Our attention has been drawn to an ‘investigation’ by CNN, entitled ‘How a Bloody Night of Bullets Quashed a Young Protest Movement’ and aired on 18 Nov. 2020, in which the international news organization said it had ”uncovered that Nigerian security forces opened fire on unarmed protesters” at the Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos, Nigeria, during the #EndSARS protest.

We write to put on record that the report did not just fall short of journalistic standards, it reinforces the disinformation that is going around on the issue, it is blatantly irresponsible and it is a poor piece of journalistic work by a reputable international news organization.

In the first instance, the report did not live up to the most basic of the core principles of journalism – balance and fairness. According to the website https://ift.tt/3l2eA7v, ”balance and fairness are classic buzzwords of journalism ethics: In objective journalism, stories must be balanced in the sense of attempting to present all sides of a story. Fairness means that a journalist should strive for accuracy and truth in reporting, and not slant a story so a reader draws the reporter’s desired conclusion.”

Rushing to air such a momentous story without presenting the government’s side is inexcusable and indefensible. CNN said it contacted over 100 protesters and family members, but did not speak to one official of Nigeria’s federal government. While CNN said there was no response from the army and that officials of Lagos State would not speak in view of the Judicial Panel that is investigating the matter, it did not say what effort it made to speak with any official of the federal government.

The truth is that CNN did not even attempt to reach the federal government. Nima Elbagir, who presented the report and most probably led the investigation, is conversant with the Minister of Information and Culture, who is also the Spokesman for the Federal Government of Nigeria, yet did not say that she even tried to reach the Minister. It is therefore strange, to say the least, that she would rush to air such an important ‘investigation’ report without getting the government’s side. In other words, Nima, and by extension CNN, breached the most basic of the core principles of journalism – balance and fairness.

Another serious breach by CNN, in its ‘investigation’, is that the network relied heavily on unverified footages it harvested from social media.

CNN was not present at the Lekki Toll Gate on the night of the incident. Neither its reporter nor cameraman was there, but it relied on eyewitnesses. Well, this is fraught with danger. While experts say eyewitness testimony is a potent form of evidence, it is also subject to unconscious memory distortions and biases, Unlike CNN, a reporter from the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) Pidgin Service, Damilola Banjo, was at the Lekki Toll Gate on the night in question, and was quoted as saying soldiers shot sporadically into the air and not at the protesters – a direct contradiction of the position taken by CNN who relied on second and third-hand information.

In airing its ‘investigative’ report, CNN conveniently forgot that on Oct. 23rd 2020, it emphatically tweeted, from its verified twitter handle, that the military killed 38 people when it opened fire on

peaceful protesters on Tuesday, Oct. 20th 2020. Almost a month later, the same CNN – after a supposedly exhaustive investigation – is now reporting only one death from what the world was made to believe was a massacre. Is CNN not embarrassed by this sharp climbdown? Has CNN owned up to this and apologized for its faux paz?

It is also interesting that while CNN obtained footage showing when the vehicles carrying soldiers left their barracks and arrived at the Lekki Toll Gate, it could not obtain any footage showing the bodies of those supposedly killed in the ‘massacre’. After all, forensic ballistic experts will most likely testify that firing military grade weapons into a crowd will not leave anyone needing a microscope to look for blood or bodies at the scene.

CNN has said it stands by its story, and that ”our reporting was carefully and meticulously researched”, This is baffling, considering that the story lacks fairness and balance, as we have pointed out, and that the organization relied heavily on manipulated social media videos. This resort to an escapist cliche seems more like a face-saving measure by an otherwise respectable news network caught in the blinding glare of ‘fake news and disinformation’ headlamps. Or how else does one explain the arrogant defence of an international news network that would not even respect the most basic principle of journalism?

One of CNN’s star eyewitnesses in its ‘investigative’ reporting is DJ Switch. Unknown to CNN, DJ Switch’s story on the Lekki Toll Gate shooting has changed several times. From claiming she counted 78 bodies of protesters who were supposedly killed by soldiers on the night of the Lekki Toll Gate incident, she has twice, at least, changed the casualty figure from 78 to 15 and then to 7, without a shred of evidence. CNN cannot pretend not to know that for anyone to act as a witness, his or her credibility must be unimpeachable. DJ Switch’s credibility does not meet that threshold.

In one of social media videos of DJ Switch that was used by CNN (see attached link 1), the lady (DJ Switch) claimed she and some unnamed persons carried dead bodies and dropped them at the feet of the soldiers. She also claimed she spoke to their Commander before the soldiers threw the bodies into the vans. Curiously, for someone who was streaming live on Instagram during the Lekki Toll Gate incident, there was not a single video or picture of the dead bodies. Not even Godson (Uyi), another CNN star witness whose video was also used by the network, or any of the hundreds of protesters, all armed with smart phones, at the scene recorded a video or shot a picture of dead bodies being carried away by soldiers.

Talking of Godson, despite claiming to have analyzed hours of footage, it is curious that CNN conveniently left out key parts of Godson’s 57-minute, 5-second video (see attached link 2). For example, 13 minutes, 40 seconds into the video, there were voices, in street lingo, in the background telling Godson that the gunshots were not from the soldiers (na boys dey shoot, that na local gun sound….it’s boys, meaning touts and hoodlums, who are shooting.

That’s local gun). Some 20 minutes,14 seconds into the video, Godson confirmed that the boys had brought out their guns and were shooting (local okah, he called it). Some 23 minutes, 14 seconds into the video, Godson said ‘wait, all these boys dey shoot’ (meaning gunshots rang out from the touts/hoodlums). CNN, in its rush to nail soldiers and tell a ‘radically different story’, conveniently left out these parts of the Godson video, which could have shown that armed hoodlums invaded the Lekki Toll Gate that night, and could have hit any of the protesters as they shot sporadically. This is clearly a ploy by the CNN reporter/presenter to manipulate viewers of its ‘investigative’ report and force them to draw the reporter’s desired conclusion! Another video showing an armed protester at the Lekki Toll Gate (see attached link 3) was apparently not among the footage reviewed by CNN!

It is shocking that all through its ‘investigation’, CNN did not for once mention the fact that six soldiers and 37 policemen were killed during the #EndSARS crisis, which also left 196 policemen injured, not to talk of the monumental destruction of government and private properties across the country. Instead, the network is fixated on the massacre that never happened. Are security agents not human beings too? Are they not entitled to the protection of their human rights?

For the record, this is not the first time that CNN has carried an inaccurate or hoax story about Nigeria. In February 2007, Nigeria accused CNN of staging one of its reports from the country’s Niger Delta region, showing gunmen holding 24 Filipinos hostage. Of course, CNN and its then Africa Correspondent Jeff Koinange flatly denied the charge, saying the network did not pay for any part of the report. Later, in an email reportedly sent to a friend, Mr. Koinange was quoted as saying: “Of course we had to pay certain people to get the story… You do not get such a story without bribing.” So much for denials!

As a form of remediation, Nigeria’s Federal Government demands an immediate and exhaustive investigation from CNN into its ‘investigative’ report on the Lekki Toll Gate incident to determine, among others, its authenticity, whether or not it met the basic standards of journalism and also the selective use of unverified social media videos to manipulate public opinion. While it is up to CNN to accede or not, please note that the Federal Government reserves the right to take any action within its laws to prevent CNN from aggravating the #EndSARS crisis with unprofessional, irresponsible, one-sided, inciting and sensational reporting that is capable of pitching Nigerians against themselves and setting the country on fire.
