Woli Arole reveals how he introduced popular hip-hop star, Oxlade to the world

Comedian Woli Arole has expressed how he had first introduced rave singer, Oxlade, to the world when he was a struggling music act.

The comic actor took to his Instagram to express his joy at Oxlade’s career rise one year after introducing him to his fans and followers in a short video.

In a short video, Arole was spotted with Oxlade enjoying a chat. The one-year-old video had Arole telling the world that Oxlade is the next talent to watch out for on the Nigerian music scene.

In the shared video, Arole wrote, “I don’t want to be remembered only for the jokes I crack but also for the lives I have impacted and touched. See this was last year, I was the one that reached out to oxladeofficial myself, I heard his song on my friend’s phone and I said, I was led to meet him. We met, we played, we chatted, I prayed for him and did a video with him which I posted.

“Just in one year, see what God has done. I am grateful to God. This is just one out of many. My testimonies are the changed lives, transformed businesses, and changed destinies through my gift, that’s my ultimate goal to my maker.

“Congrats to you oxladeofficial. This is just your beginning. See, I send DMs to people randomly just to show love and support. That’s just me. And note, my prayers carry power, God backs my utterances with power and testimony follows.”

Fans clash with cops as they scramble to see Maradona’s coffin

Grieving fans of Diego Maradona have clashed with police as they scrambled to get a glimpse of the Argentine football legend’s casket in Buenos Aires.

Grief and passion boiled over as heartbroken supporters broke through barriers and brawled with riot police near the presidential palace.

Pictures also show hordes of tearful fans surrounding a white hearse last night as they desperately hoped for a glimpse of their hero’s final journey through the capital. Tens of thousands of Argentines took to the streets to mourn him, leaving flowers and messages at his childhood home and at Boca Juniors’ stadium

Maradona became a star in Buenos Aires with Boca Juniors and went on to be a national hero and cultural icon in Argentina. His body will now lie in state for three days at the presidential palace.

Argentina’s president Alberto Fernandez has decreed three days of mourning after the death of the legendary player of a suspected heart attack aged 60.

“His unparalleled footballing skill transformed him into one of the best-known people in the world, crossing frontiers and being universally recognized as the world’s best player,” said the official mourning decree.

“Diego”, “Pelusa”, or simply “God”, as Maradona was known, had a long career that included leading the South American nation to World Cup glory in 1986.

Maradona’s body lay in a wooden coffin with the blue and white national flag and an Argentina soccer jersey with the famous number 10. It had been part of his nickname “D10S” – a play on “dios”, the Spanish word for God.

Fans held back by a barrier threw things towards the casket, including soccer shirts, as they tried to get near the player.

Maradona became a hero in Argentina and beyond both on and off the pitch despite his well-documented flaws.

“He was someone who touched the sky with his hands but never took his feet off the ground,” President Fernandez said on Wednesday.

The 10-year-old comedienne said she will like to continue with acting even as an adult. But unlike what she presently do as a comedienne, she said she aspires to feature in horror movies.

“I want to be an actress. I want to feature in horror movies, I want to feature in action movies because I enjoy watching horror movies,” the young actress enthused in a recent Punch Facebook Live Interview.

Emanuella also attributed all that has been happening in her life to “God’s grace”.

“Everything is God’s grace. I never ‘experrit’. When God wants to use you, He will use you at the right time,” she noted.

Also, Emanuella’s producer, Mark Angel, said the education of the young actress is a priority.

Mark Angel said, “For all of the kids that are in our academy, we get teachers for them outside school and we try not to let acting affect their education.

“Sometimes, fans say we are hard to reach, it is not like that but these are kids and we have to plan ahead for any act so that it won’t affect their schooling. It is all about planning.

“We schedule them and that is why they don’t go for events as they should.”

Funke Akindele reveals how she escaped death during robbery attack

Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele Bello has said she escaped death during a robbery attack at a hotel in Lagos nine years ago.

She made this known in an Instagram live session as she spoke about her new movie, ‘Omo Ghetto: The Saga’.

In her words:

“I have been friends with Bimbo and Eniola Badmus for a long time. Nine years ago, we were robbed while filming the second part of ‘Omo Ghetto’. Eniola was meant to join me in my hotel but she refused.

So, I was with Bimbo that night after begging her that I could not sleep alone. The robbers came into the hotel, which had two wings. They had robbed the first wing and one of the robbers who knew I was in the hotel started banging on my door.

However, he initially couldn’t break in and Bimbo lifted the bed so I could hide under it. I was frightened but she said, ‘You have to hide because nothing must happen to you’.

Me, Bimbo and Joy Aiyegbeni then entered the bathroom and hid behind the shower curtain. The robber eventually broke in and asked for me.

Bimbo did not say a word, then one of the robbers cocked his gun but she still did not talk. I came out and begged the robbers not to shoot. While they were punching me, Bimbo kept saying they should leave me alone.

Two days after the robbery, I asked her why she didn’t let the robbers know I was hiding in the bathroom. She said ‘If they (robbers) want to kill, it is better we die together.”

Don Jazzy says he's happy even without marriage, children

Mavin Records boss, Michael Ajereh, aka Don Jazzy in a new interview revealed he is very happy even without marriage and children.

Don Jazzy turned 38 on Thursday, November 26, 2020. A party was held for him and his father, who shares the date with him, and he tells Chijekwu Michael about the highlights of his career and life

One would have thought you would celebrate your birthday with your celebrity friends. Why didn’t you do that?

Many of my celebrity friends including, P-Square and Davido, have called me to ask where the party is happening. However, I don’t usually celebrate my birthdays. But VBank, which signed me as a brand ambassador, came up with an initiative to celebrate me and I said it would be fine to spend time with them and some of my fans. My dad is also around and we share the same birthday, so it was nice hanging out with them all.

What are the most profound lessons you have learnt over the years?

I have learnt a lot and it may not be so easy to single some out now. I have always been a patient person and I believe in striking when the time is right. That has always worked for me. Also, all the things that have happened in my life make me believe that ‘a good name is better than silver or gold’. The person that came up with that saying definitely knew what they were saying. I have maintained a good name and brand, and that has always worked for me. If everybody could be like that, it would be a great world.

Do you feel fulfilled?

Pretty much, yes. I am doing well and I have a beautiful business. My family is healthy and comfortable. I know a lot of people would say because I am not married and don’t have children, that means I am not happy. But, I am very happy (laughs). I am not missing anything. Perhaps, in the future, I would start missing little children but for now, I am actually fine. I feel fulfilled and grateful. I thank God.

Producers are not as recognised and celebrated as music artistes. How does that make you feel?

I think they should be celebrated more. I will credit my success to some tactics, a little luck and most importantly, God’s grace. However, in recent times, producers have started getting more recognition for their work. But for the set before me, it wasn’t always great. With the rise of Internet streaming, I hope that things get better for producers. I am very privileged and lucky, and I thank God but I know things can be better.

What artiste have you not worked with but would like to?

Maybe some of the new guys in the industry that would want to work with me. I am old, so my sound could be very old and some of them might not feel like they need the older sound. However, I am here for anyone that wants to work with me.

Are you planning on signing any new act?

I love grooming artistes so I have my eyes on a lot of people in this new generation and the one that is coming. But, I’m definitely not going to tell you who they are. I always wait for the perfect time before I making my moves. I was supposed to sign two or three artistes this year but the COVID-19 pandemic slowed things down, so watch out for them next year.

You seem to like free-flowing robes. What influences that fashion choice?

Absolutely nothing. I go for anything that is available. Different fashion designers that want to work with me give me clothes to wear or I buy them. I am not a fashionista; I don’t know anything about fashion. I wear anything that looks good on me. However, I prefer clothes that don’t show my ‘boobs’.

What is your take on the current state of the music industry?

It is getting more structured now than it was when we were coming up. There is hope and something to look forward to. It looks great.

How did you join the VBank family?

Their communications person reached out to me and it turned out I had already been interested in the bank before they even got in touch with me. It is something new and exciting. I prefer to work with brands that are forward-thinking and innovative, rather than the biggest ones. I believe they would feel my impact more.

Two suspects arrested for allegedly selling heads of murdered policemen for just N1000

The Oyo State Commisioner of Police, Joe Enwonwu, on Friday said two suspects arrested in connection with the killing and dismemberment of some policemen sold two decapitated heads of the murdered cops for N1000.

The police boss said this while parading some of the suspects.

Oladipupo Ifakorede, a male suspect, however, said he bought the two heads for money ritual purpose.

The suspect was arrested along with with two others, Aliu Mubarak and Adewale Abiodun. He confessed that he bought the two heads from Messrs Mubarak and Abiodun.

Recall two policemen attached to Oyo State Police Command, Ajibola Adegoke and Rotimi Oladele, were among the police officers killed in the aftermath of the #EndSARS protests hijacked by hoodlums.

#EndSARS: Mother of five demands justice for husband allegedly shot dead by soldier

Onyinyechi Osuigwe, a 25-year-old mother of five, whose husband was allegedly killed by a soldier during the recent nationwide #EndSARS protests, has called on the government to fish out the killer of their breadwinner.

The nursing mother and resident of 17B, Ndiuche Street by Ngwa Road, Aba South Local Government Area, Abia State, says she is left to wonder how to carry on with the task of looking after their five children without her husband.

Neighbours are also worried and upset that the deceased 35-year-old man, Ebere Osuigwe, was not even taking part in the protest when he was felled by the solider’s bullets.

Osuigwe was said to have left his residence in the morning of Friday, October 23 for his family’s home at Osuigwe Lane, Ngwa Road, Aba in search of electricity to charge his phone so that he could communicate with other relations and friends in his home town at Umueze Amigbo in Nwangele Local Government Area, Imo State when tragedy struck.

He was said to have met some soldiers in a patrol vehicle who halted him as he was returning home to find out where he was coming from. Osuigwe was said to have raised his two hands up in a gesture of surrender and told the security personnel that he only went to charge his phone and was going back to meet his wife and children.

Refusing to accept his explanation, a trigger-happy soldier was said to have shot him in the ankle. But apparently feeling that he did not hit his target well, the soldier opened fire again, hitting Osuigwe the laps at very close range.

Expressing her shock in a chat with The Nation, Osuigwe’s widow, Onyinyechi, said: “I am sad the way they brutally shot my husband and left him to bleed to death.”

Continuing, she said: “On that fateful day, there was no electricity and all our phone batteries were down. My husband said he needed to charge them to be able to communicate with his people to know what was going on with the ENDSARS protest.

“I told him to be careful and he assured me that he would come back immediately. After bathing and feeding the kids, I kept our food, waiting for him to come back for us to eat.

“After waiting for a long time, I called him with a neighbour’s phone several times but he was not picking his calls.

“I became worried because usually, no matter where he was, once he saw my call, he would call back to know why I was calling him.

“I went outside and sat down and later decided to go and check him around 11 am. With fear in my heart, I went to the place where he said he was going to charge his phone.

“On getting there, I saw some kids and asked them what happened. They said their brother, Ebere, had been shot dead. I was shocked and started shouting like a mad person.”

Amis sobs, she added: “Things have not been easy for me since he died. It is my landlord’s wife that has been feeding my children and forcing me to eat.”

She recalled that she had dropped her job as a seamstress on account of childbirth and was waiting to go back to work next year, after weaning her five-month-old child.

She urged the Federal Government to fish out the soldier that killed her husband and also help in training the five kids (four girls and a boy) her husband left behind.

Narrating what happened at the family lane, Osuigwe’s elder sister, Benedicta(42), said: “My brother had plugged the phone and later came back to collect it.

“On his way coming back, there is a street opposite Diamond Bank and the street was named after our surname. It is a small lane called Osuigwe Lane.

“He was on this lane when he saw the soldiers and one of them rushed towards him and asked where he was coming from. Ebere (Osuigwe) surrendered by raising his two hands up and told them that he went to charge his phone and now going back to meet his family, and that he was a family man.

“The Fulani soldier shot him first in the ankle and may be feeling he did not get my brother very well, shot him again in the laps. The other soldier asked the killer soldier, ‘Why did you shoot this man?’ and the killer soldier responded, ‘Let him go and treat himself.’

“After shooting him, he waited there and watched my brother bleed to death. They then left him and neighbours carried him in a wheel barrow down to the town, looking for a keke (tricycle) or vehicle to take him to the hospital while he was still bleeding.”

According to Benedicta, by the time Osuigwe was taken to one Christiana Christian Hospital, the hospital checked him and certified him dead.

She continued: “My people doubted it and we were referred to St. Anthony Hospital, Aba. That was where another doctor confirmed him dead. He is in the mortuary now.”

Benedicta described the late Osuigwe as a good man who could not hurt a fly.

Speaking also, the deceased’s mother, Bessy Osuigwe (55), a widow who sells firewood, said since the death of her son, she had been down with high blood pressure.

“I cry everyday because my son did not do anything. He went to charge his phone when a fellow young man caught him. He was pleading but his captor refused and shot him dead.

“I don’t know what to do next and I don’t know how I am going to cater for the five kids he left behind. How am I going to train these kids as I am not healthy now?”

“I want the Federal Government to fish out that soldier that killed my son and know how to deal with the soldier. They kill and carry people’s corpses, but my son was shot and left to die. They did not carry his corpse.

“My son is innocent. Why did the soldier kill him and leave five kids that I don’t know how to train?”

German court convicts IPOB members for attacking Ekweremadu

A German court has convicted four members of the Indigenous People of Biafra for attacking a former deputy senate president, Mr Ike Ekweremadu.

The IPOB had been prosecuted for assaulting the senator from Enugu State and sentenced to 20 days of labour without pay in August, TheCable reports.

Ekweremadu had in 2019 been beaten up by some Biafra agitators in Nuremberg at an event organised by the Ndi-Igbo Germany association for its Iri-ji (traditional festival).

The video of the attack, which went viral on social media, was condemned by members of the National Assembly.

But the IPOB described the attack as a warning to “those engaged in selling (the Igbo’s) collective interest to Fulani caliphate”.

However, the attackers were later identified by the Bavaria police in August, 2019, following calls by the Nigerian embassy on German federal authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice.

TheCable also reported that the convicted IPOB members, who had since served their sentence, were not deported.

A source at the Nigerian embassy revealed that two of the attackers had initially filed an appeal against their conviction but later withdrew it.

Barcelona slash salaries of Messi, Griezmann, others

Barcelona have reached an agreement with their players to cut salaries by €122million over the next three years, the club has confirmed.

However, the Spanish giants will still pay out around €50million per season during that period on wage packets.

The club has been forced to slash their budget, after LaLiga imposed a lower salary cap upon them last week.

League president, Javier Tebas, enforced the measures to curb excessive spending with fans still not allowed into stadiums amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Having negotiated over a period of weeks with key figures such as Lionel Messi, Antoine Griezmann and coach Ronald Koeman, Barca were able to confirm a plan for the foreseeable future that will see them trim their bills.

“Today, the parties have reached an agreement in principle that allows an adjustment to salaries for the current season,” the club confirmed Friday in a statement.

“[This is] for an amount of €122million [in] fixed remuneration, which is added to the deferral for three years of variable remuneration from this season [onward], budgeted at an approximate figure of €50million.”

Maradona no longer wanted to live, says Manager

Diego Armando Maradona’s manager and friend said the legend ‘was tired and let himself die’ while the family around him was ‘tearing each other’s hair out.’

The Napoli and Argentina icon died on Wednesday at the age of 60 after numerous health problems and addictions that ravaged his life and career.

“There’s an investigation into Diego’s death and people now point the finger at what could’ve been done, but that’s a concept that should be extended to his entire life,” manager Stefano Ceci told Radio Kiss Kiss.

“Diego was always alone: people only ever thought about Maradona. Diego stopped being Diego when he turned 17. He was very difficult to deal with as a person, because he was fragile, full of insecurities, humble and good-natured. I have 20 years of wonderful memories.

“Recently he was letting himself go, physically and mentally. I think he was tired and let himself die, he no longer really wanted to live.

“The family chaos that surrounded Diego meant he never had real peace. Even now that he’s dead, they are still tearing each other’s hair out.

“At least now he can be with those he loved the most, his mother and father. Now Diego is in peace.”

Maradona was buried next to his parents in Buenos Aires.

Court orders police to pay N50m compensation to family of slain Rivers musician

The Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, has ordered the Nigeria Police to pay N50million compensation to the family of Daniel Chibuike-Ikeagwuchi popular called Sleek, who was killed by policemen in the state.

The victim’s family had named the Police, Inspector-General, Ibrahim Adamu; the state Commissioner of Police, Joseph Mukan and two others in a suit it filed to enforce the Fundamental Human Rights of the deceased.

A team of policemen shot and killed Sleek around Eleme, Eleme Local Government Area of the state on September 19, 2020 resulting in protests.

The family had prayed the court to declared the killing of their son unlawful and to award N1bn as compensation.

It was, however, learnt that the defendants neither appeared nor filed responses in two sittings.

They were said to have appeared in court on the last-adjourned date of November 23rd when they presented a counter affidavit that was rejected by the court.

In his ruling on Friday, the trial Judge, Justice, S.C. Amadi, granted the four prayers of the claimant and declared that the gruesome murder of Sleek contravened the constitution of Nigeria.

Amadi also held that the failure of Police to arraign the officers, who killed their victim was illegal and awarded N50million against the defendants.

The Lawyer to Sleek’s family, Noble Njoku, described the judgment as justice well-served.

He said it would act as deterrent to men of Nigerian security forces, who use human being as “point and kill”.

#EndSARS: Why we’ll not spare CNN for spreading fake news - Federal Government

The Federal government has vowed to punish the Cable Network News, CNN for carrying out unverified information from the controversial Lekki Toll Gate protest.

It also vowed not to spare any media organization both local and international that attempted to set Nigeria on fire through unverifiable reportage.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alh. Lai Mohammed made the vow on Friday at a stakeholder’ meeting with the Broadcasting Organizations of Nigeria (BON) held in Abuja.

The Minister, was reacting to the controversial report by the American  Cable News Network, CNN which it said had acknowledged their letter of complaint and promised to probe same on its merit.

He accused CNN of spreading fake news by switching casualty figures at Lekki Toll Gate  so casually without a credible source, hence, its decision to write a letter to CNN asking it to use its own internal mechanism to probe its investigation.

Mohammed insisted that “the use of unverified videos and the non-adherence to the basic tenets of journalism have combined to land the international broadcaster, CNN, in trouble”, saying that the station had been caught in the web of fake news and disinformation, after it relied heavily on videos it took from social media for a supposed exclusive investigation on the incident at the Lekki Toll Gate on Oct. 20th.

He also stated that the station was found to be inconsistent, adding that “after tweeting, without a shred of evidence, from its verified handle on Oct. 23rd that soldier killed 38 peaceful protesters at the Lekki Toll Gate on Oct. 20th, the same station now said only one person was killed – after a month of its investigation.”

His words: “It is baffling that an organization like CNN will rely on unauthenticated videos to carry out an investigation

“More worrisome is that an international broadcaster like CNN will switch casualty figures so casually without a credible source.

“This is why we have written a letter to CNN asking it to use its own internal mechanism to probe its investigation.

“We have received an acknowledgement of our letter, saying the letter has been referred to CNN’s Editorial Team.

“We await the outcome of their probe, but that’s without prejudice to whatever we may decide to do as a government.

“We will not sit by and allow any news organization, local or foreign, to set Nigeria on fire with irresponsible and unprofessional reporting.

“CNN did not have a reporter or cameraman at the Lekki Toll Gate on the night in question, yet it emphatically reported a hoax story.
