Coronavirus-stricken mother gives birth on her death bed

A newborn baby is the sole survivor of a family that were killed by Covid-19 in Russia.

The boy's mother gave birth to him as she lay on her death bed attached to a ventilator in Russian city St Petersburg.

Svetlana Sorochinskaya, 36, is believed to have caught coronavirus visiting her father Kirey Pinchin, 64, in hospital where he had undergone heart surgery.

He died from Covid-19 on 5 November, eight days after he was discharged from hospital.

At the time Svetlana posted: 'My daddy ... you were the best, kindest man in this world.

'I will love you forever.

'You didn't have enough time to see your grandson.'

Already sick from coronavirus, she had complained that medics gave her 'some cough powder, and that's it' to fight the virus.

She had initially gone to a maternity hospital to give birth but when her Covid-19 was confirmed, she was sent to a leading infectious diseases hospital.

Three days later Svetlana, a dental clinic administrator, gave birth six weeks prematurely to her son, who she had decided to name Kirey, after her late father.

Hours after giving birth, she died.

Keke Palmer reveals she has polycystic ovary syndrome

Keke Palmer revealed on her Instagram page this week that she has polycystic ovary syndrome, known as PCOS.

The 24-year-old noted that the condition has resulted in acne 'so bad that people in my field offered to pay for me to get it fixed.'

Her message was accompanied by an Instagram album of close-ups showing the breakouts while acknowledging: 'The least harmful thing PCOS can bring is acne.'

'Hey you guys, for some of you this may be TMI, but for me my platform has always been used for things much greater than me. Poly Cystic Ovarian syndrome has been attacking me from the inside out my entire life and I had no idea,' she began.

'My acne has been so bad that people in my field offered to pay for me to get it fixed. I tried EVERYTHING. I did Accutane TWICE. People say drink water, have a better diet, but I did all that, I ate all the “right” things, my blood tests were fine,' she recalled.

'But it took ME taking a personal look into my family that has a history of diabetes and obesity, to understand what was ACTUALLY happening with me. And unfortunately doctors are people and if you don’t "look the part" they may not think that’s your problem,' the Hustlers actress continued.

'They may not even suggest it if you “look healthy” whatever that means! I came to a doctor in tears once and all they offered was a measles vaccine... Exactly,' she said.

'I’m posting this to say that it’s okay and we can help ourselves. My skin has made me sad many nights but I do not give up on myself. I know this is not me and my body has been looking for help. I do not have a medical degree but I did the research and took what I learned to a doctor and that led them to a proper diagnosis,' wrote Keke.

'I’m not saying trust web md for everything haha but what I am saying is no one can help us like we can help ourselves,' she argued.

'This especially makes me sad because my family struggled for years and no doctor could help them, they actually mislead them and just took their money. It’s only because of what my family sacrificed that allows me to even have the resources to share the information I’m sharing with you!' Keke claimed.

The Illinois native, who hosted the MTV Video Music Awards this year, wrote: 'Their fight out of poverty gave me a better life and I just want to share what I learn.'

While discussing her experiences she acknowledged: 'The least harmful thing PCOS can bring is acne. To all the people struggling with this please know you’re not alone and that you are still so f***ing fine! MY ACNE AINT NEVER STOPPED ME. But we don’t have accept this. Now I can really help KEKE! And I love her so it’s ON.'

She concluded: 'Pray for me on this journey and I will pray for you too. I’m not afraid to show myself to the world and you shouldn’t be either.'

The Senate today, asked President Muhammadu Buhari to sack service chiefs as a result of their failure to secure Nigerians.

The Senate decision, which is the third it would pass this year, followed a motion by Senator Kashim Shettima on the recent killing of 43 rice farmers in Borno State by the Boko Haram insurgents. Though the UN says they were over 100.

The Senate asked Buhari to replace the security chiefs with new ones “immediately”.

The red chamber also asked Buhari to restructure and remodel the nation’s security architecture.

Apart from that, the chamber demanded a probe into the allegations of corruption and financial leakage levelled against some top hierarchy of the military.

The Senate also asked Buhari to aggressively negotiate with the nation’s neighbouring countries for multinational cooperation in order to strengthen the war against insurgency.

Maradona fell and hit his head days before he died and was left alone ‘without help’, nurse claims

Diego Maradona fell and hit his head a week before he died - and was left alone for three days "without help", his nurse has reportedly claimed.

The Argentinian football legend, 60, passed away from "chronic heart failure" at his home in Buenos Aires last week.

But, with police probing his death over allegations of medical negligence, a lawyer for his nurse reportedly said he hit his head during a fall in his house.

According to local media, the World Cup winner was not taken to hospital or given an MRI scan for the bump on the right side of his skull.

At the time, he was recovering from brain surgery which removed a clot on the left side of his head and was receiving round-the-clock care.

A lawyer for Gisela Madrid, the star's nurse, reportedly said: "Maradona fell on the Wednesday of the week before his death.

"He fell and hit his head, but they didn't take him to the hospital for an MRI or CT scan …"

Attorney Rodolfo Baquè also claimed the former Barcelona and Napoli playmaker was left alone for three days after the tumble.

He said: "Maradona was unable to decide anything - after the fall he was left alone for three days in his room, without being seen by anyone and without being helped."

His preliminary autopsy report said Maradona suffered "acute lung edema and chronic heart failure" and died in his sleep.

On Saturday, it emerged that the iconic sportsman's nurse admitted she lied about an early-morning check-up on him.

The sensational confession added more mystery to the circumstances surrounding his untimely death.

Initial reports pointed to a 24-year-old nephew, who was living with him, being the last person to see him alive over breakfast the day he died.

He was said to have told his relative: “I’m not feeling well” before going back to bed and dying in his sleep.

However, investigators have now been told he never got up on Wednesday to eat anything.

Police found a late-night sandwich lying uneaten in Maradona's bedroom when he was discovered dead.

One night-shift nurse told cops she had seen the star "sleeping and breathing normally in bed" at around 6.30am on the morning of his death.

She then claimed she saw him alive at 9.20am - however the medic has now admitted she never went into the footballer's room and that she was "made to lie", local media reports.

It is not clear why the woman - who works for private medical firm Medidom - lied under oath.

Psychiatrist Susana Cosachov and psychologist Carlos Diaz, also part of the star's care team, found his lifeless body shortly before midday.

Two of the star's daughters Dalma and Giannina have told police they suspected the medication their father was given was not appropriate.

And at the weekend, Maradona personal doctor Leopoldo Luque had his office and home raided by cops amid reports the death is being treated as manslaughter.

On Sunday, following the 40-minute search on his home, Dr Luque, a neurosurgeon, said he did "everything he could, up to the impossible" and considered himself a "friend" of Maradona.

He also revealed Maradona was battling addiction problems when he died.

During an emotional statement, the doctor said the footballer had issues with pills and booze, adding: "He punished himself in a way I wasn’t going to allow, not as a doctor but as a friend.

"You want to know what I am responsible for? For having loved him, for having taken care of him, for having extended his life, for having improved it to the end."

Dr Luque said Maradona looked "very down" in the days leading up to his death and should have gone to rehab following the op.

"He should have gone to a rehabilitation centre. He didn't want to," he said, describing Maradona as "unmanageable".

"I am the person who has been taking care of him. I'm proud of everything I've done. I have nothing to hide. I am at the disposal of justice," he added.

Federal Government warns against Christmas carol, tells Nigerians abroad to stay away

The Presidential Task Force on Covid-19 has urged Nigerians to be weary of festivities such as Christmas carols as the year winds down.

It also warned against non-essential travels just as it asked Nigerians abroad to remain wherever they are or stand the risk of being stranded in the country in the event that the government takes a decision on international travels.

The call formed the theme of the speeches of the Chairman of the PTF, Boss Mustapha; the national coordinator, Sani Aliyu; the Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire; and the Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, Chikwe Ihekweazu, at the weekly briefing of the task force in Abuja on Monday.

Mustapaha, who is also the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, said the PTF was escalating its surveillance and testing drive to ensure that the spread of the virus was effectively contained as the nation approaches the festive season.

“We shall continue to remind Nigerians that all non-essential trips should be put off this December. This is for your safety and good health,” he said.

Nigerian traders in Ghana raise alarm over closure of shops

The National Association of Nigerian Traders has called on the Federal Government to take urgent action as Ghanaian authorities embarked on another round of closure of shops belonging to Nigerian traders on Monday.

The National President of NANTS, Ken Ukaoha, who made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja, condemned the maltreatment of Nigerian traders in Ghana.

Ukaoha said that the entire process showed Ghana’s decision to undermine trade and economic integration process in the West African region.

He, therefore, urged the Federal Government to take immediate actions and urgently present the maltreatment of Nigerians in Ghana to the Council of Ministers and the Authority of Heads of State.

Hundreds of shops belonging to Nigerian traders in Ghana have been under lock and key since September, 2019.

“As at today, November 30, the Ghanaian Authorities led by Security Agencies have started another round of closure of shops belonging to Nigerian traders in Ghana.

“The notice placed above the padlocks on each of the locked shops informs owners to come to their Ministry of Trade and Industry with evidence of payment of one million dollars.

“It is indeed a complete dent on the face of ECOWAS and a bold question, perhaps asking the Nigerian Government ‘What would you do?’ or ‘Do your worst!’” Ukaoha noted.
