Some yet-to-be identified gunmen have attacked the residence of Eris Paul, a former ex-militant leader also known as Ogunbos, at his country home in Peremabiri Community in the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, burning down his mansion.

According to reports, the attack occurred in the early hours of Friday, Christmas Day.

It was learnt that armed men stormed the community in speed boats, shooting indiscriminately before setting buildings on fire.

It was learnt that Paul was able to escape without being injured or killed, though narrowly.

A source in the family said Paul (Ogunbos) was attending a burial in the community when the incident occurred.

”He is still in the community, doing fine. It is only that some properties were destroyed,” the source said.

Valuables worth millions of naira were burnt along with Paul's home.

Confirming the incident, Butswat Ansimi, State Command Public Relations Officer, told SaharaReporters that though normalcy had been restored, several properties were damaged and no life was lost.

The duo is likely to return for City’s Carabao Cup semi-final against Manchester United on January 6.

“All four personnel will now observe a period of self-isolation in accordance with Premier League and UK Government protocol on quarantine,” City said in a statement released on Friday morning.

“Everyone at the club wishes our colleagues a speedy recovery over the Christmas period ahead of their return to work, training and competition.”

The positive tests come as the UK experiences a surge in COVID-19 cases, with the 39,036 confirmed on Thursday marking it the second-highest daily total since the pandemic began.

Nigerians ranked third highest users of G.a.y dating app Grindr

Grindr, a social networking and online dating application for g.a.y.s, bis.e.xuals, transgender and queer people has ranked Nigeria its third top user.

In the list of the top five users of the app, Morocco and India rank first and second above Nigeria.

Chile ranked fourth and Israel fifth.

Ranked as the top five lowest users are Vietnam, Sweden, Thailand, Peru and South Africa.

The app, however, offered a caveat stating that the data only represents a subsection of users.

Grindr also noted that its community is only a subsection of the global queer community.

According to Grindr, the report is only an informal way to help their users get to know each other better, serve as an ice-breaker for conversations in the app.

“Instead, it’s meant as a fun and informal way to help our users get to know each other better, serve as an ice-breaker for conversations in the app, and provide some insights into Grindr activity trends from the year.

Budweiser sends a bottle of beer to EVERY goal keeper who has conceded a goal from Lionel Messi

After 20 years, one club, 644 goals, the most goals scored for one club, Budweiser has personalised bottles for the 160 goalkeepers Messi scored against.

Chelsea’s Kepa Arrizabalaga, Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak and Juventus’ Gianluigi Buffon are some of the goaltenders that got bottles.

The record-breaking 644th goal was Messi’s 65th-minute strike against Valladolid in his 749th outing for Barcelona.

Pele had held the record at 643 goals until that game of Tuesday, December 22, when Pedri’s backheel to Messi left four defenders helpless and keeper Masip’s twisting fruitless.

Some statements buy Budweiser celebrating the feat include: “We’ll never see another like him”, “Kings aren’t made overnight”, “The Messi mentality”, “644 goals = 644 moments of Messi magic”;

“And yes, we’ve created a custom bottle for every single goal to send to the keepers to toast their part in history. Kings recognise Kings.

“What makes 644 even more special? The fact @leomessi scored against the best keepers in the world to break the record.”

FIFA has cancelled the U-17 and U-20 World Cups that were to hold in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The U-17 World Cup was scheduled to take place in Peru and the U-20 World Cup in Indonesia.

FIFA, in a statement has confirmed both countries will now host the respective competitions in 2023.

“The COVID-19 pandemic continues to present challenges for the hosting of international sporting events and to have a restrictive effect on international travel.

“FIFA has therefore regularly consulted the relevant stakeholders, including the host member associations as well as the confederations involved in both tournaments originally scheduled to take place in 2021.

“In doing so, it became clear that the global situation has failed to normalize to a sufficient level to address the challenges associated with hosting both tournaments, including the feasibility of the relevant qualification pathways,” the statement read.
