Actress Ini Dima-Okojie revealed she was diagnosed with fibroid in 2017 [Video]

Nollywood actress, Ini Dima-Okojie, has revealed that she was diagnosed with fibroid in 2017. The diva shared her story with her fans on her Instagram account.

She allayed the fears of her friends and fans as she noted that she is currently recovering from surgery.

In a video that chronicled her battle with the ailment, she took to the caption section to state, “My journey with fibroid. Hey Guys, I know it’s been a minute! I want to share something quite personal with you but I think it’s important because this is something that apparently affects about 6-8 in every 10 black women but no one talks about it.”

In the post, she noted that she was scared when the doctors told her she had fibroid. “I found out I had fibroids in 2017, I remember freaking out so much. The first gynaecologist I saw said if it wasn’t really bordering me he would advise I leave it alone but that I had better go and quickly get married.

She continued, “Anyways, fast forward to March 2020, the bulge on my lower belly had gotten bigger and my new gynaecologist advised I take out the fibroids.”

Ini Dima-Okojie said that at the point she was meant to have the surgery, the COVID-19 pandemic had become a serious issue worldwide so her operation was delayed. “Then Covid happened and we had to put the surgery on hold. In the meantime, I tried other things like herbs, clean diet, exercise.

“Now fast forward to November, the bulge in my tummy had now increased significantly so I decided to go do another pelvic scan and was told I had to get an MRI because the fibroids were now bigger than what the ultrasound machine could adequately measure. Bottom line I had to have the surgery as soon as possible. I had the surgery, it was successful and I’m now healing slowly but surely. I just want to thank God Almighty for showing up and showing out for me!”

The North East star seized the opportunity to thank everyone that stood by her during her plight.

“I want to thank my family and friends especially my mum and my Aunty Biola who moved into the hospital and never left my side. I want to thank Dr Esue and all the doctors and nurses at Cedarcrest hospital for taking such good care of me. And finally, I want to thank you guys who have been sending me messages, wondering if I’m okay and praying for me anyway,” she said.

She also shared a word of encouragement with women who are still battling fibroid.

“To the women out there dealing with fibroids. I know what a lonely road it can be not to talk of the pain and discomfort and then there are the ignorant ‘congrats on your pregnancy’ comments to deal with. It’s okay they don’t know any better. I want you to know that my DMs are opened to you. If you want to ask questions, talk or even just rant. I’ll respond once I get stronger.

“I know 2020 has been a tough year. But we are tougher!!! We’re still here, we survived!!! That alone is a huge feat. Let’s remember to be kind to ourselves and others. I pray 2021 is better for us all! Lots of Love Ini,” she said.

Selena Gomez says Facebook is responsible for Covid deaths

Selena Gomez has blasted Facebook, saying the social media networking site will be "responsible for thousands of deaths" if they don't tackle fake news.

The 28-year-old singer spoke out against the site as she reposted part of a BBC interview with Imi Ahmed, the CEO of London charity Center For Countering Digital Hate.

Selena told her millions of young fans: "Scientific disinformation has and will cost lives. @ Facebook said they don’t allow lies about COVID and vaccines to be spread on their platforms.

"So how come all of this is still happening? Facebook is going to be responsible for thousands of deaths if they don’t take action now!"

In the segment she shared, Ahmed claimed social media companies have done "absolutely nothing" to stop the spread of false information concerning vaccines during the pandemic.

Selena's strong stance comes after she previously tackled the social media giant over a report by the same charity that Neo Nazis were able to conduct commerce through it.

She wrote: "'I’m speechless. @Facebook @ Instagram how are you tolerating this hate? There’s still accounts there even though you have been notified!!"

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has approved the conduct of crossover night service for churches in Abuja.

But, FCTA urged churches to heed strictly to the COVID-19 protocols.

Many state governments have asked churches not to hold any crossover service, due to the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Answering questions from reporters on Wednesday on the development, Head, Media and Public Enlightenment of FCT COVID-19 Task Force, Comrade Ikaro Attah said church leaders should obey government and security personnel directives to avert the spread.

He disclosed that a combined team of the Task Force will be going round to monitor compliance during the service.

Best friends form throuple after 'falling in love' with same woman on holiday

Two men who were best pals have formed a throuple after meeting a woman on holiday, and falling in love with her at the same time.

The threesome say they even want to have children together as they start building a life.

Dino De Souza and Saulo Gomes, 30, both from Brazil, first met Olga, 27, from Bélarus, at a bar during a holiday in Barcelona on August 19, last year.

The friends were both captivated by Olga, who was hanging out at the venue with a group of friends, and each wanted to ask her out.

Torn on how to resolve the situation without causing issues with their friendship, both men approached the young woman – and eventually, the trio began going on dates together.

Dino and Saulo both fell head over heels with Olga, but they had never planned to become a throuple.

Dino, 40 said: “Saulo and I arrived in Barcelona and went directly to a bar to see the Champions League game which was showing that night.

“We entered the bar and Olga was there with a group of friends.

“We approached her and we invited her to go and get a drink with us, and that was where our beautiful story began.

“For us, it is not a question of being in a relationship with three people.

“It's a question of chemistry, we happened to be connected. The chemistry was so strong that we are impressed to know what the other is thinking or feeling.

“I would like to be able to describe what we feel, but we do not have adjectives to describe this feeling.”

Having dated for nearly a year and a half, Dino, Saulo and Olga travel, go to restaurants and go on dates just like a typical couple would, but as a trio.

At first, the throuple received shocked reactions from friends and family about their relationship, as their loved ones struggled to understand it.

Despite the initial backlash, the trio did their best to explain their situation calmly and their friends and family are now supportive.

They still get confused looks and negative comments from people in public – but choose to ignore these and focus on their relationship instead.

Dino said: “In the beginning, we received many shocking messages from friends and family trying to understand what was happening.

“We have been calm, explaining to them what we feel for Olga and that we have not changed as people, but instead have grown from this relationship.

“We don't get a lot of comments but we get a lot of confused looks from people.

“When they have an opportunity to get to know us and talk, they completely change the way they were thinking about our relationship.

“They get surprised and change negative opinions that they had before.

“We are very mature and philosophical about life. We always try to stay positive and do not waste our energy with negative things.

“We also don't give a f**k what people think about us!”

Describing their roles in the unusual grouping, Dino said: “I’m the child of the relationship and I bring the positivity.

“Saulo is the serious and organised one, while Olga is the distracted and disorganised person, but brings unconditional and pure love to the relationship.”

The trio, who currently live in Toulouse, France, also plan to have children together in the future.

List of states where crossover service is restricted or banned

In a bid to reduce the spread of coronavirus, many states have either banned or restricted crossover service, a tradition by Nigerian churches in which worship is held on the last night of the year until the early morning hours new year day.

The crossover service often attracts huge worshipers in which church leaders make proclamations for the new year.

This time, however, crossover service will be celebrated differently due to the pandemic.

Here are states that have announced a ban or restriction on crossover service:

Ondo State

The Ondo State government has banned crossover service across the 18 local government areas of the state.

This was even as the state announced other measures to contain the spread of the virus, including half operations of capacities at clubs, hotels, and supermarkets.

The state also announced that there would be three months imprisonment or N20,000 fine or both for offenders of the guidelines.

Osun State

On Monday, the Osun State government had placed a ban on crossover service in churches to combat the disease's spread.

The state government has, however, rescinded its earlier decision.

This was contained in a statement on Tuesday signed by the Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Mrs Funke Egbemode.

In the statement titled, 'Covid-19: Osun gives fresh directives on Crossover Service', the commissioner said the government's sensitivity to the season's mood had necessitated a review of its earlier position.

Egbemode said, "The Government of the State of Osun has decided to allow cross over religious gatherings. But any organisation holding cross over service must note that they are expected to close the service early, and everyone must be off the streets by 1:00 am.

"Security operatives have been given the directive to enforce this guideline. Therefore, religious bodies and citizens are advised to comply because we do not want anyone to spend the first day of the year in police custody.

"Also, the leadership of religious bodies must ensure strict adherence to safety protocols, which include accommodating only 50 per cent capacity of their normal attendance, ensuring social distancing, use of nose mask or face fields by participants, avoidance of sharing materials and instruments and avoidance of any other action that can help the virus to spread."

Ogun State

The Ogun State governor, Dapo Abiodun, has also announced similar measures to tackle the spread of COVID-19.

Abiodun directed that street carnivals be suspended while restricting attendance to crossover services, parties and similar gatherings.

Lagos State

On December 25, the governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, directed worship centres to suspend all-night services, including vigils and crossover events.

He assured the citizens that the curfew imposed between 12 midnight and 4 am would be strictly enforced.

Kwara State

The Kwara State Government also imposed a partial lockdown and curfew in the state from 12 midnight to 4:30, am till further notice.

Other measures include mandatory use of face masks in public places, while clubs, concert, carnivals are banned till further notice.

The government said no worship centre should exceed 50 per cent of the maximum capacity to allow for proper social distancing.

Federal Capital Territory (FCT)

The Federal Capital Territory administration ordered that all bars, restaurants, leisure gardens, and event centres be shut for five weeks.

Plateau State

Last Wednesday, the Plateau State government stated that there was no plan to lock down the state over the second wave of COVID-19.

Therefore, crossover service could still hold, but not more than 50 per cent of the capacity.

Ekiti State

The Ekiti State government announced new restrictions to curtail the spread of coronavirus in the state. It directed the task force and law enforcement agents to begin aggressive compliance enforcement activities in public places, including worship centres, event centres, markets, supermarkets, bars and hotels.

Edo State

The Edo State government has announced the reintroduction of restrictions and reactivation of disease surveillance and management protocols to curb the widespread coronavirus.

The state had adjusted its curfew to begin from 12 midnight to 4 am daily, starting from December 23, except on December 31, 2020.

Governor Obaseki said, "Wearing of facemask is mandatory in public places. There should be a drastic reduction in the number of people attending religious, political and social gatherings in one place. People are advised not to patronise or enter any public facility without a hand wash station, with soap and running water."

Nigerian govt must take responsibility for another recession, sinking economy - Ooni of Ife

Adeyeye Ogunwusi Ojaja II, Ooni of Ife, has urged the Nigerian government to come up with recovery plans capable of improving the economy of the country.

The first-class monarch said this in his Christmas/New Year message issued by his Director of Media and Public Affairs, Moses Olafare, and titled ‘Ooni charges FG on economic recovery plan as he rejoices with Christians, says COVID-19 second wave real’.

Ooni, a Co-chairman of the National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria, said, “We started this year 2020 with a lot of hopes and aspirations, particularly on the country getting it right economically towards the prosperity of the entire citizenry, but unfortunately the COVID-19 pandemic crept in, sinking the economy in another recession. It has happened this way, and the only way out is for the government to take responsibility.

“Government policies must be executed in a way that the standard of living of the citizens, particularly the youths is upgraded which will, in turn, reduce the crime rate in the country.”

The monarch said the country needs a clear economic policy to take it out of recession and revive the economy.

Drama as Aisha Buhari's aide shuns question on first lady whereabouts

The Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, the Office of the First Lady, Mr Aliyu Abdullah, has parried questions demanding Aisha Buhari's whereabouts during an interview on television.

While speaking on a Channels Television programme, Abdullahi had been asked the whereabouts of the First Lady, but he tendered an apology and said he was not on air to discuss such issue.

Abdullah, who spoke from Kaduna State, stated that the First Lady was entitled to her privacy and she could decide to answer such questions or not.

It was reported on December 15 that Aisha had been in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, since September after the wedding of her daughter, Hanan, and she had therefore not been involved in any government activity.

The last public event the First Lady held in the country was on September 4, when a flamboyant wedding was held for President Muhammadu Buhari's daughter, Hanan, and Mohammed Turad.

When asked during the television interview where the First Lady was at the moment, Abdullah said, "I am sorry. This is not part of what I was invited here to discuss in your studio.

"I would not be speaking on that because it is not part of what we agreed for me to come and discuss. So let us leave that issue out of the interview, please.

"Let me say it this way again, the First Lady, although married to the President, nevertheless is a citizen of this country, who is entitled to her right to privacy.

"So, I think if she chooses not to speak on a particular matter, she is entitled to her privacy and that is where I wish to leave the issue as of now. It is her right and she did not choose to speak on it."

US nurse tests positive for covid-19 week after getting vaccine

A California nurse tested positive for Covid-19 more than a week after receiving the vaccine, though medical experts say the timeline isn’t unusual.

ER nurse Matthew W., who works at two different hospitals in San Diego, received the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine on Dec. 18, and initially reported arm soreness for a day, KGTV reported.

The 45-year-old nurse then felt sick after working his shift in the Covid-19 unit seven days later on Christmas Eve.

The nurse was experiencing classic symptoms such as fatigue, chills and body aches. Two days later, Matthew got tested at a drive-up hospital and his results came back positive for the coronavirus, according to the outlet.

Dr. Christian Ramers, an infectious disease specialist with Family Health Centers of San Diego, told KGTV it’s a possibility that Matthew contracted the virus before getting the shot since it takes about two weeks for the first dose of the vaccine to kick in.

“We know from the vaccine clinical trials that it’s going to take about 10 to 14 days for you to start to develop protection from the vaccine,” Ramers said. “That first dose we think gives you somewhere around 50%, and you need that second dose to get up to 95 percent.”

Ramers added that people shouldn’t let their guard down even if they’ve gotten vaccinated, and that they should continue to follow protocols such as hand washing and wearing masks during the pandemic.

“You hear heath practitioners being very optimistic about it being the beginning of the end, but it’s going to be a slow roll, weeks to months as we roll out the vaccine,” the specialist said.
