Over 1000 sign petition to sack FCMB MD Adam Nuru

Over 1,000 people have so far signed a petition to compel the Central Bank of Nigeria and the board of FCMB to sack its managing director, Adam Nuru.

Adam Nuru, reportedly fathered the two children of a married woman, working with him at FCMB.

The woman, Moyo Thomas, nee Ojo, allegedly confessed her extra-marital affairs to her husband Tunde Thomas, after she escaped to the U.S, where she is now seeking asylum.

The shattered husband, who all along believed that the two kids of the marriage belonged to him, died of heart attack two weeks ago.

A group that has sprung up, Justice for Tunde Thomas, is spearheading the campaign to get Nuru dismissed.

It has also given FCMB two weeks to sack Nuru, on ethical grounds, for being mired in marriage and paternity scandals.

Here is the petition posted on change.org:

Justice for Tunde Thomas started this petition to Godwin Emefiele and 3 others

Tunde Thomas died recently like about a week or 2 from Depression. Apparently, kids from his marriage to Moyo Thomas belongs to wife’s boss (Adam Nuru, the current MD of FCMB). Moyo Thomas left Tunde to go to America with the kids, she told him kids were not his when she got to America. He was later down with stroke but recovered.

Apparently, Tunde met someone else he was going to remarry but apparently didn’t recover from the first Marriage issues. Tunde was just made director for the MFB he works for. Got back from work last week and had a cardiac arrest 2 days before introduction to pregnant new girlfriend.

This is a case of gross misconduct based on ethical grounds and an unjustifiable economic oppression by the elites (Adam Nuru) against the less privileged in the society. The MD has been doing everything possible to sweep this case under the carpet. We implore the Central Bank of Nigeria as the apex regulator and the board of FCMB to investigate this for the integrity of the bank and Nigerian banking industry. This is a case too many , while I agree that this is not the full story , the barest minimum will be an investigation to this unethical conduct by the current MD of FCMB Bank Adam Nuru.

Parents of molested Deeper Life school student ‘respectfully’ demand N100m compensation

Parents of 11-year-old Don-Davies Archibong, JSS1 student of Deeper Life High School, Idoro Uyo, have demanded the sum of one hundred million naira compensation for the inhuman torture their son was allegedly subjected to in the school.

This is contained in a letter addressed to the Principal of the School, entitled “Gross Child abuse, palpable molestation, serial bullying, criminal starvation, malicious oppression, and dubious maltreatment of master Don-Davies Archibong (11 years old) by the Principal and Boarding Master, of Deeper Life Secondary School, Uyo”

The parents Mr and Mrs Iniobong Archibong sent the letter through their solicitors, Eagle-Eyes Network Chambers, and signed by David Okokon (Esq).

According to the letter which was dated December 22, 2020 and obtained by Vanguard on Friday in Uyo, the School was given 21 days of the receipt of the letter to pay the N100million compensation.

The letter reads in part, “We are solicitors to Mr and Mrs Iniobong Archibong, resident in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State herein after referred to as our client. We have the firm explicit and unequivocal instructions to write to you on the above subject matter.

“It is indeed provocatively heartbroken, morally suicidal, religiously hypocritical that our client’s 11 year old son was torrentially bombarded with physical, and inhuman torture of debilitating dimension with resultant castration of his human person, dignity, and childhood innocence.

“We respectfully demand the payment of N100,000,000 within 21 days of the receipt of this letter as compensation to assuage the dehumanizing, horrendous torture and indignity our client’s son was subjected to and for his medical checkup and medication.”

Meanwhile Akwa Ibom State government announced its decision to withdraw from investigating the matter.

The Commissioner for Information and Strategy Mr. Ini Ememobong who made this known in a statement made available to newsmen Thursday in Uyo, therefore appealed to the public to exercise patience for a thorough investigation to be carried out by the police and other relevant institutions.

“The State Government will upon receipt of the report take necessary actions thereto”, Ememobong assured.

20 year-old mother kills own baby to enable her marry ex-boyfriend

A 20-year-old mother, Faith Alhassan, has been arrested in Kaduna State for killing her one-year-old daughter, allegedly to enable her to marry her ex-boyfriend who was not ready to accept her with a baby.

Faith, a secondary school certificate holder, said until she carried out the dastardly act and saw the dead body of her daughter, she did not realise what she was doing.

The Kaduna State Police Command yesterday disclosed that on December 28 around 7 am. the body of a baby girl was found in a well at Gantan village of Kachia Local Government Area.

The police further informed that upon receipt of the report, an investigation was carried out and it was discovered that the mother of the dead baby, Faith Alhassan, was the suspect.

According to the police, the suspect went to Gantan village with the baby to meet her former boyfriend by the name Dolan Yakubu, whom she jilted some years back.

She equally told the police that it was when Dolan’s father complained of the baby that she quietly in the night went and dumped her into the well where the baby died, apparently for her to be able to marry her ex-boyfriend.

The suspect, however, denied her earlier statement to the police when she simply said she didn’t know what came over her when interviewed.

Speaking to journalists at the Kaduna State Police Command headquarters where she is currently undergoing investigation, she however denied that she killed her daughter because she wanted to marry her former boyfriend whom she had jilted some years back.

The young lady who said she stays with her grandmother, also disclosed she doesn’t know the whereabouts of her dead daughter’s father.

When asked why she was at the police command, she said: “I am here because of my daughter that I threw into the well and she died, I don’t know what came over me when I carried out the act”.

Asked whether it was because she wanted to marry her ex-boyfriend that she killed her daughter, she said: “I did not kill her because I want to marry, I just don’t know what entered me, I am not happy for doing it,” she said as she burst into tears.

FG approves mobile app to ease linking NIN to phone numbers

The federal government has approved the development and release of a mobile app to enable Nigerians and legal residents easily link their National Identity Number (NIN) to their phone numbers.

This is contained in a statement released by Dr Femi Adeluyi, Technical Assistant (Information Technology) to Prof Isa Pantami, the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy.

According to the statement, this is part of efforts by the FG to improve the process of obtaining NIN and linking it to phone numbers.

The statement reads: “The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Pantami has approved the development and release of an improved National Identity Number (NIN) slip and a Mobile App.

“This is part of the Federal Government’s policy to improve the process of obtaining NIN and linking it to SIM, which was sent to the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) and the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) for implementation.“The N20 and N40 fees for NIN verification by individuals and Mobile Network Operators, respectively, were also waived.

“These efforts are aimed at supporting the Policy to link subscribers’ NIN to their SIM, which was approved by the Federal Government earlier in the year and communicated to the NCC on the 4th of February, 2020.

“The highly anticipated Web Service (MWS) Application, called the NIMC Mobile App, and the improved National Identification Number (NIN) Slip are now available for public use.

“The App provides a secure channel for all Nigerians and legal residents to easily verify and authenticate their identities on-the-go using smartphones.

“It also enables them to link the NIN to their phone numbers. The development of the App and other tools to support the National Identity Number (NIN) process align with the National Digital Economy Policy for a Digital Nigeria.

“The App offers a built-in harmonization process that allows for its use across other government services including the NCC, Federal Inland Revenue Service, Federal Road Safety Commission and National Health Insurance Scheme, to mention a few.

“On the other hand, the new improved NIN slip is a pocket friendly and an easy to verify version of the NIN.

“It can be accessed via a self-service Portal, where people who already have been issued the NIN, can log in, download a PDF of the document in colour (if preferred), print and laminate as desired. The current NIN Slip will remain valid and will be gradually phased-out.

“The App is available on the Google Play Store for Android users and App Store for iOS users.

“Details on how to download and install the App and download the improved NIN slip are available on the websites and social media platforms of the Ministry and NIMC.

“Users can also download the improved NIN Slip at https://ift.tt/2KIGbyQ.

“The Honourable Minister has directed NIMC to respond to enquiries and also provide multimedia guides to make it easy for users to obtain their improved NIN slips and install the App.

“The Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy remains committed to creating an enabling environment for all Nigerians and legal residents to obtain their Digital Identity Number”.

Nigerian pastor holds New Year crossover service, dares govt to arrest him

Despite the directive by the Ondo State government banning the annual “cross over vigil”, senior pastor of Awaiting The Second Coming Of Christ Ministry, Adewale Giwa still went ahead to hold the programme.

At the cross over service held in his church auditorium in Akure, Giwa said only a fake Christian is afraid of death.

The state government through the Ondo State Inter-ministerial Committee on COVID-19 had threatened to jail any church leader who flouts its ban on crossover services across the state due to COVID-19 pandemic.

Giwa, while addressing his church members said it would be hard for anybody who could not die for Christ to enter the kingdom of God.

He quoted the book of Matthew 10:39 to support his argument and urged Christians to expect great tribulation any moment.

“You can only arrest me in the house of God, but you cannot arrest me in a beer parlor. What is the essence of following Jesus Christ if you cannot die for Him?

“We did our cross over service today successfully and closed at 12:35 am. I made a vow to God to gather His children to worship him.

“I fear no man, but God. Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it, says Jesus’s Christ in Matthew 10:39.

“The apostles in the bible died for Christ, but most apostles of our time are afraid. When the Scripture tells you to obey a leader, it does not tell you to obey leaders who don’t have fear God,” Giwa stated.

Happy New Year Guys... Thank God we made it

What a relief! Thank God we made it to the New Year people. Many wanted to see this day, but they are no more. 2020 took them with it. This is not to mock them, but to praise God for counting us among the living by His grace alone.

Oh what a relief. 2020 came with a thing the world had never experienced before. It changed our eternal lives. Changed it. Deaths everywhere.

People lost so many loved ones -- families and friends. We can only pray that as this marks a new beginning of a fresh year, the new freshness of the Lord will breathe on us. Breathe on every of our belongings -- both living and non living in Jesus name.

The Lord will have mercy and put an end to coronavirus and the world will be normal again and we will be able to praise him forever.

2021 shall come with new blessings for us in Jesus Name.

Happy New Year guys!!!! THANK YOU JESUS.

Riot in Ogun as customs allegedly kill another youth on New Year’s eve

There was pandemonium in Oke-Odan, Yewa South Local Government area of Ogun State following the alleged killing of a youth by men of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) on New Year’s Eve.

It was gathered that the customs officers resorted to sporadic gunshots while chasing a suspected car smuggler along Idiroko border road.

This incident, it was gathered, led to a riot as youths of Oke-Odan barricaded the international road, causing heavy gridlock.

The irate youths made bonfires on the road as they threatened to engage the NCS officers, who were said to have fled the scene immediately the incident occurred.

Dailypost correspondent, who visited the area reports that all customs checkpoints along the road have been vacated by officers.

As a result of the gridlock, the journey from Owode to Idiroko which is usually between N250 and N300 has now been increased to N1,200 by commercial drivers.

It appears the cries by youths and indigenes of Ogun border communities over the alleged killing of innocent souls by men of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) are not yielding any result.

Information has it that innocent youths had continued to lose their lives to stray bullets said to be fired by officers of the NCS Ogun State Command and those of the Federal Operating Unit (FOU).

President Buhari’s New Year broadcast [Full Speech]

President Muhammadu Buhari in a speech on New Year’s Day recommits himself to serve the nation, promises to develop Nigerian youths and re-organise the police and the armed Forces to make them proactive.

He also says he will collaborate with the legislature to toughen the country’s anti-corruption laws.

Here is the full text of the speech:

My fellow countrymen and women,

First, I would like to thank and praise the Almighty who saw us through the year 2020 and has given us the opportunity to witness the start of another new year. We especially thank God because the year 2020 was one of the most trying years since our existence as a Nation.

This can also be said about all other nations around the world, due to the challenges posed on our collective humanity by the novel COVID-19 pandemic.

While acknowledging that 2020 was a very tough year, we saw this year put to test our national resilience and ability to survive these tough times and also gave renewed hope that we will again brave any storms that lay ahead in 2021 and beyond.

As we celebrate the opportunity before us in this New Year 2021, we must also acknowledge the passing away of our brothers and sisters who didn’t make it into this New Year. May their souls rest in perfect peace.

We must remember that we also celebrated the historic occasion of our sixty years as an independent and sovereign country on October 1st 2020. In the spirit of hope and gratitude, I would like to remind us again that as a country on the difficult journey to nationhood and greatness, we have confounded the many pundits at home and around the world who never gave the newly-born country that emerged unto the world stage on 1st October 1960 a chance of surviving much longer than a few years.

Yet, here we are, 61 years by the next anniversary in October, and not only are we here, we are standing tall in the comity of nations as one country united under the will of God and also actively growing that indivisible Nigerian spirit that has enabled us, year after year, decade after decade, to weather all stormy waters and emerge stronger and better where others have fallen and disintegrated. This nation, this Nigeria will survive and thrive.

In this journey to nationhood, we have experienced the highs and lows. 2020 indeed came with a lot of challenges ranging from security and economic issues across the regions to understandable protests that were mainly led by our youths and served notice to the demand for police reforms and accountability. This government heard, this government listened and this government is committed to fulfilling the five demands of our youths, fully understanding that we all wish well for Nigeria.

In the midst of all these challenges, I had initially pledged that as your elected President and Commander-in-Chief, I would ensure that these ongoing challenges will be faced head-on with renewed determination and with all the appropriateness and urgency required. Your voices have been heard and we would continue to listen to you, and all the key stakeholders who are committed to the unity of Nigeria to ensure that every region of this nation is safe for us all, while guaranteeing that the future is also secure for the coming generation.

I wish to also use this occasion of New Year to reaffirm my commitment to the people of Nigeria, especially the youth who need our collective encouragement and support. In securing this nation we need to secure the future of our youth.

Our young people are our most valuable natural resource, at home and abroad. Their ingenuity, creativity, innovation and entrepreneurial spirit is evident to all.

Their ingenuity, creativity, innovation and entrepreneurial spirit is evident to all. Many of our young people are excelling in various spheres of life including sports, entertainment, information and communication technology, commerce and are globally recognized as achievers.

As a Government we are committed to actively engaging with the creative energies of our young people. In this regard, we will partner with the legislature to develop an enabling environment to turn their passions into ideas that can be supported, groomed and scaled across regions. This will create vast opportunities in fintech, agriculture, business process startups and in the entertainment industry.

The year 2021 will indeed be a year where we will work to reinforce the hopes of fellow Nigerians in the vision of a united and progressive Nigeria. This administration would continue focusing on delivering key strategic priorities under our “SEA” – (Security, Economy and Anti-Corruption) Agenda. Some of the key priority areas we would direct our attention and strengths to include:

ON THE SECURITY:

Re-energizing and reorganizing the security apparatus and personnel of the armed forces and the police with a view to enhance their capacity to engage, push back and dismantle the operations of both internal and external extremist and criminal groups waging war against our communities in some parts of the country.

In line with the current security challenges, we are facing as a Nation, I would like to reiterate the promise I made recently when over 300 of our boys abducted from Government Science Secondary School, Kankara were successfully rescued by our security operatives.

The professionalism shown by our Security Forces and the collaboration from all stakeholders across both State and Federal Governments that led to the successful rescue of the boys is proof that Nigeria has the internal capacity to decisively deal with terror attacks on our citizens.

With the recent opening of our borders, we expect that the pent-up demand of legitimate cross-border and international trade will boost the fortunes of the many small businesses and agricultural enterprises that depend on Nigeria’s trade and commerce.

The message to our West African neighbours is that Nigeria is once again fully open for those willing to conduct business in a fair and equitable way.

ANTI-CORRUPTION:

On the anti-corruption drive of our administration, we have recorded substantial gains so far and this year, we are committed to continuing along the path of eradicating corruption, through collaboration with all the arms of Government to effectively prosecute this fight.

While we would be working with the Legislature to enact laws that would strengthen this fight, we would also be looking at reviewing some of our laws which would ensure that this fight is more effective. On the part of the executive, we would ensure the diligent and timely prosecution of corruption cases, while appealing to the judiciary to ensure that corruption cases are dispensed with expeditiously.

The persistence of various forms of violence has meant that in the most affected parts of the country, the fabric of inter-communal harmony woven through years of investment of effort at building trust, mutual respect, and harmony has been threatened.

Insecurity as a challenge has direct repercussions on our national economic stability, growth, and development, setting us back at critical points through the destruction of public and private investments.

Insecurity as a challenge has direct repercussions on our national economic stability, growth, and development, setting us back at critical points through the destruction of public and private investments.

In parts of the country where chronic poverty, social exclusion, and disillusionment among sections of the youth were already a problem, the cycles of violence that have been unleashed by mindless groups like Boko Haram and others have thwarted the efforts of government to undertake the social policy and associated investments that could make a huge difference in the quality of life of our citizens.

I am aware that for some of our compatriots, the progress we have registered since the inception of this administration is not nearly as fast or as sufficient as they would wish. I do not begrudge them their views in so far as they signify a wish, in which we all share, for only the very best for our country.

Nevertheless, I call upon all Nigerians to carefully recall the circumstances of our coming to office, the facts on the ground and the resources at our disposal since 2015 with the accomplishments of this administration.

As a people, we have shown admirable resilience in the face of every adversity, an unmatched capacity to recover speedily from every setback, an unparalleled generosity of spirit when we resolve our differences, and a constant readiness to invest faith and hope in the destiny we share as a united country built on the diversity of its peoples.

It is these attributes that underpin the Nigerian spirit of “can do, will do” that gives me hope that we shall yet get to destination and fulfill our calling together, especially with the solid resolutions we are setting in this new year.

Keeping our country on a forward march is a duty which we all have and share. In this regard, keeping our country safe from a resurgent cycle of COVID-19 as this administration finalizes its plans to procure and efficiently and effectively distribute the COVID-19 vaccines, I urge you all fellow citizens to observe strict COVID-19 prevention protocols.

As your elected President, my pledge to you is the same as it has always been; I will play my part fully and without fear or favour. I invite all of us to do the same. It is what we owe to the founding generation of our beloved country and also to the coming generation. It is what we desire for national prosperity for all demands.

Long Live the Nigerian spirit of oneness, togetherness, and unity. Long Live the Federal Republic of Nigeria. I wish you a Happy and prosperous New Year.

May God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Rapper Lil Tjay arrested for gun and weed possession

American rapper, Lil Tjay was arrested on Wednesday afternoon for criminal possession of a weapon, marijuana possession, and grand larceny.

According to TMZ, the 19-year-old rapper was driving in Brooklyn with four other people in the car when they were pulled over for switching lanes without using a signal.

When officers approached the vehicle, they reportedly smelled marijuana, which prompted a search. The officers would end up finding 4 loaded handguns and a large amount of marijuana in the car that Tjay and the others were in.

While it is still unclear where the grand larceny charge came from, since no one in the vehicle would claim ownership of the illegal substances and firearms, everyone was booked and hit with possession charges.

There has been no report on the current status of TJay and those in the car with him, or how long they will remain in police custody.

Lil Tjay had another encounter with police last weekend when they attempted to shut down a music video he was shooting in the city.

After responding to a call they said they received about people waving guns around in the street, NYPD officers investigated the vehicles on the scene but did not find anything. Tjay was released shortly after the search yielded no evidence.

Those extorting NIN applicants risk 7-year jail term - NIMC

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has said that the ongoing enrollment for the National Identification Number (NIN) is free across the country.

In a tweet on Thursday, NIMC warned that those who extort applicants risk a seven-year jail term if found guilty of the offence.

While citing Sections 14, 20 and 21 of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) Act and Sections 10 and 12 of the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act, NIMC said the offence is punishable in accordance with the laws.

The commission also asked Nigerians to report such cases of extortion for diligent prosecution to serve as a deterrent to others.

“The punishment for extortion if convicted is seven years of imprisonment as stipulated in Sections 14, 20 and 21 of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) Act and Sections 10 and 12 of the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act,” NIMC said.

“Report extortion via actu@nimc.gov.ng or call 08157691214 or 08157691071,” the National Identity Management Commission added.
