Second wave: The new mandatory rules for travellers

The Federal Government has revised quarantine protocols for all international travellers.

In the revised protocol, travellers are required to conduct a mandatory Covid-19 test within 96 hours before departure.

Also, they are expected to repeat the PCR test seven days after arrival.

The Covid-19 Presidential Task Force made this known on Tuesday via its Twitter handle.

“Revised Protocol: All International travellers arriving Nigeria must conduct a mandatory Covid-19 PCR test within 4 days (96 hours) before departure,” it tweeted.

Earlier, travellers – except those from the United Kingdom and South Africa – are expected to conduct a mandatory PCR test within 120 hours before departure.

“All intending travellers to Nigeria must have tested NEGATIVE for Covid-19 by PCR in the country of departure pre-boarding,” part of the protocols on its website read.

Adekunle Gold recounts how he met Simi as they celebrate their 2nd wedding anniversary

Adekunle Gold has recounted how he met Simi as the couple celebrate their second wedding anniversary today.

Sharing their love story on Instagram, he says he knew Simi was the one for him the first day he saw her perform. He had quickly closed from work, wore a simple outfit and made sure he secured a front seat.

Sharing photos from that day, the singer wrote;

“I look back to the first day I met you. I had just left the office, so excited that you had finally given me the audience to see you. This local boy put on a white byc vest and a pair of new lilac pants bought specially for the occasion; I even made sure I was there earlier so I had front row seats.

“I watched you talk, sing, laugh and dance and Omo I knew that very day that I wanted to be in your life. I knew that day that I wanted my forever to be you. Here we are, all three of us, talking, dancing, singing, laughing and doing this this called life together.

“With you, I have been blessed with so much, so much, it’s too much to count.

I love you Simi. Forever your steward.”

After tragic massacre of farmers, Borno LG recruits 200 volunteers to tackle bandits

Jere Local Government Area of Borno State is recruiting no fewer than 200 youth volunteers to augment the state Civilian Joint Taskforce and the Nigerian security forces’ effort at ending insurgency in the state and the North-East sub-region.

The new Chairman of the council, Umar Gujja, said the volunteers would be deployed to farmlands to provide security to the farming populace of the mostly agrarian community.

Gujja, who disclosed these while reacting to the massacre of farmers in Zabarmari last year, said, “That tragic incident remains the darkest moment for us as a local government.

“That such a large number of our people are slain like rams on their farmlands is a testimony to the security challenge confronting us as a people and as leaders.

“It is therefore the responsibility of us, the elected leaders, to proffer solutions to this security challenge. That is why we are recruiting able bodied youths as volunteers to first of all secure our immediate communities and our farms since we are purely an agrarian local government.”

He said the volunteers would be trained and provided with local arms to help in their operations and added that they would work under the strict supervision of the Nigerian military.

Covid-19: FCT demolishes wrestling arenas, arrests 25

The Federal Capital Territory Administration has pulled down five local wrestling and drama theatres popularly called ‘Gidan Drama’ and ‘Gidan Dembe.’

The demolition exercise which took place at Dakibiyu, Gwarimpa 1 and Sector Centre districts was carried out by the FCT Ministerial Enforcement Taskforce.

It also arraigned 25 persons including motorists and commuters for violating the health protocols.

Speaking after the demolition, the Head, Media, Public Enlightenment and Advocacy of the Taskforce, Ikharo Attah said the removal of the structures became inevitable following the failure of the operators to stop their activities at the arenas.

He added, “Thousands of persons gather at these local entertainment centres to watch artistes and wrestlers perform. In one of the centres, we observed during surveillance that thousands gather to watch nude dancers. Facemasks, physical distancing and sanitizing of the hands do not exist here at all.”

He, however, appealed to Kannywood actors and actresses who sometimes make appearances at the centres to desist from coming there.

On the arrest of violators, Attah said, “Most of the commercial drivers arrested carried too many passengers and overloaded their vehicles in contravention of the Covid-19 Transportation Guidelines and Protocols”.

He disclosed that one of the drivers who identified himself as Garba was sentenced to one-week imprisonment for assaulting a policeman attached to the taskforce and ramming his car into a police van while trying to evade arrest.

Oh No! Youtube suspends Trump channel

Google-owned YouTube on Tuesday temporarily suspended President Donald Trump’s channel and removed a video for violating its policy against inciting violence, joining other social media platforms in banning his accounts after last week’s Capitol riot.

Trump’s access to the social media platforms he has used as a megaphone during his presidency has been largely cut off since a violent mob of his supporters stormed the Capitol in Washington DC last week.

Operators say the embittered leader could use his accounts to foment more unrest in the run-up to President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration.

“In light of concerns about the ongoing potential for violence, we removed new content uploaded to Donald J. Trump’s channel for violating our policies,” YouTube said in a statement.

The channel is now “temporarily prevented from uploading new content for a ‘minimum’ of 7 days,” the statement read.

The video-sharing platform also said it will be “indefinitely disabling comments” on Trump’s channel because of safety concerns.

Developed countries can learn how politics is played from APC - Yahaya Bello

Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, said developed countries can learn how politics is played from Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) after it concluded its membership registration and revalidation.

The Kogi governor made this claim at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja when he was inaugurated as Chairman of Women and Youth Sensitization and Mobilization Committee of the APC.

He said; “We have accepted this responsibility. It is a sacrifice, it is out of patriotism, it is a national assignment. We are going to deliver resoundingly. The APC will continue to win every election in this country.

“By the time we are done and all the registration of new members and revalidation of existing members are done in the country, “APC will not just be the largest in Africa but we are going to call on even the developed nations to come and learn from APC in Nigeria.

“We shall even teach some of our brothers who have just concluded elections that were rancorous. I will not mention names (referring to the United States of America) but we are going to be an institution of politics in Nigeria.

According to the Yobe State governor and Chairman of the Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee CECPC, Mai Mala Buni, he said the party is undergoing strategic measures to reposition itself.

He also said the party would provide the committee with all the necessary support to ensure the success of its assignment.

'I killed him in self defence' , Corps member explains why she hacked man to death

The corps member who stabbed a young man to death in Akwa Ibom has said she did it in self-defence.

Princess Odume, the accused person, has been remanded in police custody since Sunday after neighbours caught her trying to jump over a fence after killing the young man.

On Tuesday, the police spokesperson in the state, Odiko Ogbeche-Macdon, said the young man killed by Odume has been duly identified as Japhet Akwaowo.

Ogbeche-Macdon said Odume claimed Akwaowo threatened to kill her upon her refusal to oblige his request to remove her clothes so that he could have s.e.x with her.

He said, "She actually killed the young man identified as Akwaowo Japhet. She said she went to buy bean cake, akara, and saw a man that beckoned to her to come over to him. She said she went to meet him, they got talking and she found herself in his house. She said she waited for him outside and he went inside to bring a knife. He said he was going to stab her and no one would know what happened. She also said Japhet asked her to remove her clothes and she refused. What basically happened was that she overpowered him."

Odume was arrested by the police after she allegedly hacked Akwaowo to death with a machete.

The young woman, who is said to be a graduate of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Enugu State, was stripped naked and humiliated by neighbours of the deceased who caught her trying to jump over the fence with the cutlass.

According to an eyewitness account, Odume was caught on Sunday at Abak Road after neighbours saw the corpse of Akwaowo lying in a pool of blood with several cuts on his body.

FCMB managing director’s wife 'moves out of their home and may seek divorce'

All is not well in the home of Adam Nuru, the controversial Managing Director of First City Monument Bank (FCMB), as his wife, identified as Hauwa, has allegedly concluded plans to divorce him.

Family sources told SaharaReporters that Hauwa has moved out of Nuru’s house and has likely informed her lawyer to prepare divorce papers so she could leave the marriage.

It was learnt that she would cite infidelity as grounds for divorce.

“I know she has moved out. This case is beyond Moyo or the late Tunde. His own marriage is about to crash now. The wife and her family are really giving him problems. They are ready to deal with him. The Moyo stuff is part one, he is currently facing the second part with his wife,” one of the sources told SaharaReporters.

For some weeks now, the social media have been awash with allegations that Nuru had an affair with Moyo Thomas, a former FCMB employee, fathering two children with her.

It was also said that the alleged paternity fraud resulted in the death of Tunde Thomas, Moyo’s husband.

In a petition, the deceased’s friends had claimed that Tunde died of depression after discovering that his supposed two children with Moyo were not his but Nuru’s.

They also called on the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to sack Nuru, while demanding a comprehensive investigation into the matter.

They claimed that Tunde suffered a stroke due to the experience but later recovered and thereafter met another lady whom he planned to marry.

Tunde was, however, said to have died two days before his relations and his fiancée’s family were scheduled to meet as is customary before marriages in Nigeria.

His fiancée was said to be pregnant at the time of his death.

"This is a case of gross misconduct based on ethical grounds and an unjustifiable economic oppression by the elite (Adam Nuru) against the underprivileged in the society,” the petition read.

“The MD has been doing everything possible to sweep this case under the carpet. We implore the Central Bank of Nigeria, as the apex regulator, and the board of FCMB to investigate this for the integrity of the bank and Nigerian banking industry.

“This is a case too many, while I agree that this is not the full story, the barest minimum will be an investigation of this unethical conduct by the current MD of FCMB Bank, Adam Nuru.”

Nuru recently proceeded on leave to enable the bank to investigate the allegations against him.

The bank made this known in a statement last Tuesday, saying the move was important to guarantee the sanctity of its investigations.

“We are aware of several stories circulating across several media platforms about our bank’s Managing Director, Adam Nuru; a former employee, Mrs Moyo Thomas, and her deceased husband, Mr Tunde Thomas,” the statement said.

“While this is a personal matter, the tragedy of the death of Mr Tunde Thomas and the allegations of unethical conduct require the bank’s board to conduct a review of what transpired, any violations of our code of ethics and the adequacy of this code of ethics.

"This is already under way. During the period of the review, the managing director has volunteered to proceed on leave. This will guarantee the sanctity of the review process.”

Meanwhile, Moyo, who recently broke her silence on the matter, denied allegations of paternity fraud levelled against her.

In her statement, she also denied ever telling her late husband that he was not the father of her children.

Eminem's 'forgotten' daughter's wholesome life with her beau

Hitmaker Eminem's eldest daughter Alaina Mathers likes to keep a low profile life.

The 27-year-old and her sister Whitney were adopted by Lose Yourself singer Eminem - real name Marshall Bruce Mathers III - back in the 90s.

Alaina is biologically the rapper's niece as her real mum is Dawn Scott - the twin sister of Eminem's ex-wife Kimberly Anne Scott.

It is reported that the singer-songwriter adopted Alaina while Kim, who later died in 2015, was undergoing treatment for drug addiction and in his music he has referenced the young woman by her nickname, Lainey.

Alaina, born on May 3, 1993, grew up alongside the musician's famous daughter Hailie and speaking fondly of Alaina in 2004, Eminem told Rolling Stone : " My niece has been a part of my life ever since she was born.

"Me and Kim pretty much had her, she'd live with us wherever we was at."

Alaina calls Eminem uncle and he referenced this in his hit Mockingbird.

Giving an insight into their family life, he sang: "Lainey, uncle's crazy ain't he, yeah but he loves you girl and you better know it."

Later in the song, he remarked that the two girls - Alaina and his biological daughter Hailee - are "pretty much sisters now," as he continued "And Daddy's still here, Laney I'm talking to you too, Daddy's still here. I like the sound of that, yeah, it's got a ring to it, don't it?"

And by taking a look at Alaina's glossy social media page it is easy to see that she is happy with a wholesome life alongside her doting boyfriend Matt Moeller.

Eminem does not star on Alaina's profile and she describes in her bio: "dog mama to snoop & cooper body positivity + women empowering women real-life ft real photos #nophotoshop."

Proving Alaina - who studied Public Relations at the University of Oakland and graduated on April 27, 2017 - and beau Matt receive lots of invitations to weddings, Alaina has posted a number of glamorous snaps of the couple posing in formal ensembles as they attend the nuptials of pals.

Alaina often showers praise on her partner with gushing tributes.

Drug for river blindness, can cure Covid-19-Nigerian scientists

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has welcomed efforts by a team of Nigerian scientists investigating the efficacy of Ivermectin drug in the treatment of COVID-19.

The team, which is composed of Nigerian scholars at home and abroad, has also submitted its report on the usefulness of the drug to the World Health Organisation.

The WHO has appointed a Peer Review expert from the United Kingdom.

Osinbajo expressed excitement that Nigeria and Nigerians “are at the cutting edge of scientific research into the COVID-19 treatment.”

According to him, “we have an opportunity here and I am so fascinated to hear this drug has been used in the treatment of River Blindness in this country.”

While commending the efforts of the team, Prof. Osinbajo added that with the report, Nigeria is at an advantage both in knowledge and availability of the drug, especially since Ivermectin has been found useful not only in the treatment of COVID-19, but also as a prophylactic medication.

He disclosed that the Federal Government will explore further ways to support the research for the benefit of Nigerians and humanity generally, while also advancing the effective funding of scientific research in the country.

The VP spoke after he was briefed virtually on the report by a team of scientists led by Prof. Femi Babalola, the Principal investigator, and Prof. Chris Bode, the Chief Medical Director of LUTH.

Covid-19: FG to vaccinate 103m Nigerians for free

The Federal Government has made provision in the 2021 budget to pay for the vaccination of around 103 million Nigerians or 50 percent of the population against Covid-19.

Director-General of the Budget Office of the Federation Ben Akabueze made this disclosure in Abuja on Tuesday during the budget 2021 budget breakdown.

According to Akabueze: “There is a global alliance to support economically weak nations with vaccines, our understanding of the current plan is that we will be getting vaccines donations to cover up to 20 percent of our population but then the global standards say that to achieve herd immunity you have to vaccine at least 70 percent of the population and so there is a 50 percent of the population that we may be required to pay for their own vaccination”.

Already, there is an “inter-ministerial committee looking at this matters and the assurance is that government will do whatever is needful to keep the citizens and economy safe even if it means coming back with a supplementary budget”.

The National Assembly reviewed the 2021 budget upward by N500 billion to accommodate the purchase and distribution of vaccines against coronavirus.
