Lady attacked while jogging on Lekki-Ikoyi link bridge [photos]

A lady has been attacked while jogging on the Lekki Ikoyi link bridge.

This happened yesterday, January 18 as she went out for an early jog.

Her sister said the attack happened around 5.40am on the bridge and sadly people moved on like nothing was happening as no one helped her.

She was left with a broken finger, gash on her thigh and a  bruised face.

This became public after a man sent out SOS on Twitter asking people tp be very careful of the bridge especially when the day hasn't fully break.

INEC fixes November 6 for Anambra governorship election

The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has fixed the Governorship Election in Anambra state for November 6, 2021. 

The commission disclosed this in a statement issued Tuesday and signed by a National Commissioner and Chairman of its Information and Voter Education Committee, Barr. Festus Okoye. 

INEC said it had met earlier on Tuesday and deliberated on a wide range of issues including the issuance of the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the conduct of the Anambra Governorship election.

The 27-year-old said "Yes" when her 23-year-old billionaire boyfriend Michael Boulos popped the all-important question.

Tiffany rushed to Instagram - just one of the many social media platforms her dad Donald is blocked from using - to announce the exciting news.

Gushing over her new fiancé, Tiffany admitted it was an "honour" to "celebrate many milestones" at the White House during her dad's presidency, the most significant of which being her engagement.

"It has been an honour to celebrate many milestones, historic occasions and create memories with my family here at the White House, none more special than my engagement to my amazing fiancé Michael," she penned.

"Feeling blessed and excited for the next chapter," she added.

Alongside the sweet note, Tiffany shared a snap of the loved up pair posing outside the White House.

Police assaulted me after r.a.p.i.n.g my six-year-old daughter – Petitioner

Mr. Okehielem Onyema, a petitioner at the Edo State judicial panel narrated on Tuesday how he was brutalized by police officers.

The petitioner said he was brutalized for refusing to accept a sum of ₦200,000 from a man who allegedly ra'p'ed his six-year-old daughter.

Mr. Onyema said he was assaulted by officers at the Testament Police Station and State CID in Benin City, the Edo State capital.

According to him, the alleged ra'p'ist was caught alongside a native doctor who had fetish objects and drugs he claimed was used on his daughter.

Onyema said he went to the Testament Police Station to make a report and was attended to by one Inspector Juliana Anyanwu. The inspector he said told him to accept the sum from the suspect, after which he was assaulted for refusing the offer.

He told the panel that afterward, he took the case to the state police command where another Inspector Justina Idiata attended to him.

The inspector also urged him to accept the money which he turned down again. Onyema said he was beaten for refusing the sum again.

The petitioner prayed the panel for compensation of N25 million and said the case is before a competent court.

He petitioned the panel as a result of the assault and brutality the police made him go through in the presence of the suspect.

The case was adjourned for further hearing on Wednesday.

Zamfara gives 'repentant' bandits vehicles, millions of naira

About 15 brand new Hilux vehicles were given to leaders of different repentant bandits in Zamfara State by Governor Bello Muhammad Matawalle, SaharaReporters claims.

The governor also approved millions of naira to be given to the 'repentant' bandits as compensation, the news medium says.

The Zamfara State Government had in 2019 entered a peace agreement with the gunmen.

But despite the accord, communities in the state are still being attacked and residents kidnapped and/or killed. 

A top military officer told SaharaReporters that the bandits now carry out attacks with some of the vehicles given to them by Matawalle.

The officer said, “Those bandits have different group, so if they say they repent, the governor will give them a Hilux vehicle but unfortunately they are now using the vehicles to carry out attacks.

“On Sunday, they attacked Jankara but were resisted by the local vigilantes, so they fled and left one of those Hilux vehicles and the motorcycles they came with behind.

“It’s so sad, he called it peace and reconciliation programme, but all you need to be rich now in Zamfara is to take up arms against the people.”

Zamfara, like other North-West states, has in the last 10 years faced devastating attacks from armed bandits.

A committee set up to investigate the menace of armed banditry in the region, headed by Mohammed Abubakar, a former Inspector General of Police, reported that in Zamfara State between June 2011 and May 2019, 4,983 women were widowed; 25,050 children were orphaned; and more than 190,000 people were displaced as a result of armed banditry.

Covid-19 vaccines meant to kill us – Governor Yahaya Bello

Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has discouraged the use of COVID-19 vaccine, claiming that the jabs are meant to kill people.

The Nigerian government had said it was expecting at least 100,000 doses of the Pfizer and BioNTech approved COVID-19 vaccines to come in by the end of January 2021.

According to Faisal Shuaib, Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer, National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), provisions have been made for President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo to receive the vaccine on live television.

Kayode Fayemi, Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum, while addressing journalists in Abuja after meeting with President Buhari last week, said he and his colleagues would also take the vaccine on live television.

He said, “We too will like to demonstrate to our citizens that we believe that the vaccines would work.

“Don’t forget, we have a lot of experience on this. The Governors Forum managed the polio vaccines administration in the country and we have garnered a lot of experience.”

But in a viral video, Bello condemned the use of the vaccine, saying it was produced to kill people.

Speaking to a crowd of people, the Kogi governor doubted the authenticity of the vaccine, saying there is no cure for HIV and many other diseases troubling mankind.

He however did not provide any evidence to support his claims that the vaccine could be dangerous to the health.

Bello said, “Vaccines are being produced in less than one year of COVID-19. There is no vaccine yet for HIV, malaria, cancer, headache and for several other diseases that are killing us. They want to use the (COVID-19) vaccines to introduce the disease that will kill you and us. God forbid.

“We should draw our minds back to what happened in Kano during (sic) the Pfizer polio vaccines that crippled and killed our children. We have learned our lessons.

“If they say they are taking the vaccines in public, allow them to take their vaccines. Don’t say I said you should not take it but if you want to take it, open your eyes before you take the vaccines.”

This is not the first time the governor would be making controversial assertions about the virus or the potency of the vaccine.

In a Channel’s TV programme last December, Bello also questioned the need for Nigeria to procure COVID-19 vaccine.

“What is applicable over there may not work in Nigeria. We don’t need to participate in this marketing of COVID-19 vaccine. We should channel the money we want to use to buy the vaccines to other things. The Presidential Task Force (PTF) should give the right advice to the president,” he said.

Also, in his New Year broadcast, Bello said it would be irresponsible of his government to see COVID-19 as a definer of 2020.

He said Kogi would not respond to the second wave of the virus with “mass hysteria”.

According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), 1,449 people have died of COVID-19 complications across the country.

While the country has recorded 112,004 cases of the disease, 89,939 people have recovered from it.

Kogi is one of the states where COVID-19 figures are believed to be highly questionable as the governor has insisted that there is no coronavirus in the state.

Gun-battle in Lagos: Cultists exchange gunfire with police

It was gun-battle in Lagos as suspected cultists engaged the Lagos State Police Command in gunfire that lasted for minutes.

The incident occurred on Tuesday at about 12:30pm at Igbelara Area of Ikorodu, Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria.

A statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Muyiwa Adejobi, said the battle was between suspected members of Aiye Confraternity and the police.

”The Police responded to a distress call from members of the public that some suspected cultists were seen at Igbelara Area with dangerous weapons to foment troubles and the police, with the help of some community members, raced to the scene before the deadly gang opened fire on them. 

”The police operatives, in a swift reaction, responded and engaged the men leaving some of them injured and they fled with the bullet wounds. Two of them, Waliyu, m, and Timileyin Omobolaji,m, were eventually arrested with wounds while one cut-to-size pistol, ten (10) expended cartridges and six (6) life cartridges were recovered from them. The injured ones have been taken to hospital for medical attention.

”The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Hakeem Odumosu, has appealed to the general public, especially medical practitioners, to alert the police whenever they come across any of the fleeing suspected cultists with bullet wounds.

”The police boss commanded the gallantry of the police operatives and members of the public for their courage and commitment to tackle the deadly boys who have been terrorising the area and entire ikorodu.

”CP Hakeem Odumosu therefore ordered that the matter be tramsferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba for discreet Investigation.

“He further vowed to get Lagos State rid of cultism and other vices as all hands are on deck to continually fight crimes and criminality to a halt in Lagos State,” Muyiwa said.

S.e.xual Ritual: Ibadan chief shaves pubic hair of two sisters

A 60-year-old traditional chief in Ibadan has been arrested for allegedly abusing two female minors.

The suspect was said to have caused the two minors, who are siblings, to shave off their pubic hair, and also inserted his finger in their private parts.

On learning of the suspect’s alleged acts, a mob encircled his house yesterday, intent on burning it down with him inside.

Operatives of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence (NSCDC) came to his rescue, and took him in for questioning

The suspect, who was identified as Mogaji of Ori Aare compound, was accused of tricking the two girls, one aged 17, the other 13, into his house and made them shave their pubic hair. Afterwards, he allegedly packed the hair in a piece of paper, added alligator pepper and asked them to bury it around their house. He also allegedly warned the children against telling their parents or anybody about their encounter.

But fearing that the Mogaji may have set them up for ritual, they reportedly requested their grandmother to take them to her spiritualist for cleansing. Bewildered by the request, the old woman was said to have probed them further and soon got the whole story.

Spokesman of the corps Oluwole Olusegun, said the suspect claimed that the children came to him for spiritual assistance which he rendered.

Drama as ECOWAS lawmakers are accused of being in underwear, cooking and smoking in Zoom meeting

It was a bizarre scene at the online second ordinary session of the ECOWAS parliament as some lawmakers were seen dressed in underwears and the other smoked with flagrant impunity. 

It seemed fellow lawmakers tacitly gave their nods to these social anomalies but journalists invited to the parliamentary session voiced against the indecent behaviour of the lawmakers. 

They also called on the Speaker of the Parliament, Sidie Tunis to address the lawmakers on virtual meeting etiquette before the commencement of any other meeting. 

One of the journalists who spoke on anonymity said, “The most annoying one I saw was when Hon Wahab Suhiyini Wumbei was in his panties dressing up on camera as if he was acting a movie. 

“Also Hon Diemimetou busy cooking. This is unacceptable,. Any of the MPs that is not ready to participate in the virtual meeting, should wait and finish what he or she is doing first before he joins the meeting,” the journalist advised. 

Another journalist said, ” I have never seen a thing like this, were someone is participating on a visual meeting of a magnitude like this, he is smoking and making noise at the same time not minding what is going on. 

“At the end of the day, these same MPs will be ask to send their account details for payment. If I may ask, payment for making noise or payment for indecent behaviour while visual meetings are going on? 

”It is time we tell our selves the truth, the parliament should have some rules and regulations during such meetings and anyone who does not obey these rules, should be sanctioned,” he said.

Mets GM Jared Porter in 'trouble' for allegedly sending reporter unsolicited pen!s photos

Mets general manager Jared Porter’s standing with the team has landed on shaky ground following a report Monday night indicating he sent unsolicited texts and images to a female reporter in 2016, culminating with a shot of a n.a.ked, erect pen!s. Oh dear!

ESPN reported that Porter, then working for the Cubs, sent the woman a foreign correspondent who had moved to the U.S. to cover Major League Baseball 17 pictures in one burst. The first 15 photos were of a hotel and restaurants. The 16th was of a bulge in his pants and the 17th was a bare penis.

Porter acknowledged in the report he had texted with the woman, but initially said he had not sent any pictures of himself. Presented with more evidence by ESPN, he denied the explicit pictures were of himself, calling them “joke stock images” before declining further comment.

Porter, 41, was hired last month from the Diamondbacks as the Mets’ new GM under team president Sandy Alderson.

“I have spoken directly with Jared Porter regarding events that took place in 2016 of which we were made aware tonight for the first time,” Alderson said in a statement. “Jared has acknowledged to me his serious error in judgement, has taken responsibility for his conduct, has expressed remorse and has previously apologized for his actions.

“The Mets take these matters seriously, expect professional and ethical behavior from all of our employees and certainly do not condone the conduct described. … We will follow up as we review the facts regarding this serious issue.”

According to the ESPN report, Porter met the woman in an elevator at Yankee Stadium in June 2016 and they talked briefly — the only time they ever spoke.

The report said Porter soon began texting the woman and they corresponded sporadically before Porter sent the woman a selfie, to which she reciprocated. Porter responded “You’re gorgeous,” and asked her “Want more of me?” The pictures continued, with Porter sending a shot of himself on a bed with a bulge in the crotch area of his pants. Porter texted “Like?” To which she responded, “Yes … you are not married?” Porter said he wasn’t and asked if she would like to see more. According to the report he sent more than 60 texts over the next three weeks to which the woman never responded.

The woman, who has since left journalism, told ESPN through an interpreter she thought it would be awkward to say no to Porter’s questions and she didn’t totally understand what was occurring.

On July 20, 2016, according to the report, Porter sent pictures with one of the three World Series rings he received with the Red Sox. Then came two photos of a bulge in his shorts, with Porter asking if he was annoying her. The next day Porter texted “I want to see you.” His unanswered texts continued for the next two-plus weeks, according to the report, and on Aug. 9 he and the reporter were at Wrigley Field. Porter then texted the reporter saying he thought he had seen her in the ballpark and she was “so beautiful.” The reporter panicked, according to ESPN, and hid to avoid him.

Porter further texted the woman, saying he would soon be in Los Angeles “at the best hotel in America” and asked if she could meet him there. Porter subsequently sent the 17 photos, displaying the hotel and facilities, but included a shot of his pants with a bulge and then a photo of the naked, erect penis. Later, the woman says she received help in composing her first reply to Porter in weeks, calling his texts “offensive” and “inappropriate.” Porter apologized, according to the report and said he would stop.

According to the report, ESPN first knew about the pictures in 2017, but the woman wouldn’t speak about the situation until recently, agreeing to because Porter held a greater position of power and she wanted to prevent the incident from happening again.

Kim Kardashian and husband of six years Kanye West have 'completely' stopped going to marriage counseling, amid reports of their looming divorce.

The Keeping Up with the Kardashians star and her husband have been in therapy, attempting to mend their relationship.

She has reportedly been meeting with divorce lawyer Laura Wasser in recent weeks, as a source now tells People of Kanye: 'He is talking to divorce lawyers this week.'

The 40-year-old has been living separately from Kanye, 43, as their relationship has become 'downright toxic' after months of therapy.

A source recently told Us Weekly of their divorce: 'Kim and Kanye had no option but to live apart in the end because the communication between them had gotten so downright toxic.

'They went into the latter part of 2020 with the very best of intentions and wanted to find a way to get along when they spent time together.

Femi Fani-Kayode's wife Regina is a year older today. And the former minister of Aviation took to his Instagram page to shower Regina with praises, describing her as his mother, love, confidante, and best friend.

First Lady Melania Trump releases farewell message [video]

First Lady Melania Trump, in a video, has given a “farewell message” to the United States, two days before the end of the term of President Donald Trump, her husband.

“My fellow Americans, it has been the greatest honour of my life to serve as first lady of the United States,” said Trump in the video released Monday on Twitter, a site from which her husband has been banned indefinitely.

“I have been inspired by incredible Americans across our country,” she said.

Trump thanked military and law enforcement members, but did not directly address the January 6 breach of the US Capitol by rioters spurred on by her husband’s repeated claims that the election had been “stolen”.

The incident left five dead, including a Capitol police officer. Thousands of National Guard have since been deployed to Washington, DC and state capitals around the country amid the threat of further violence surrounding President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration.

Trump had previously said she was “disappointed and disheartened” by the violence, while also decrying “salacious gossip, unwarranted personal attacks and false and misleading accusations about me”.

In the video released on Monday, Trump urged US citizens to “be passionate in everything you do, and always remember that violence is never the answer and will never be justified”.

'Abdulrasheed Maina sick, suffers partial stroke in prison'

Abdulrasheed Maina, former chairman of Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT), suffered a partial stroke at the Kuje correctional center where he is being detained, his lawyer, Anayo Adibe, has said.

Adibe, who spoke in an interview with We FM, said his client is in a “very bad shape” and needs adequate medical attention.

“I visited him at the prison about a week ago and from the visit, he was not looking fine at all. I was told he had suffered a mild stroke, his blood pressure has been very high and his sugar level has risen astronomically. He is in a very bad shape.”

He said although the resident doctor at the correctional facility has tried to keep Maina’s health under control, the facility is not equipped enough to give him adequate medical attention.

“The resident doctor has written several letters to the authorities asking that he be taken to a better and well equipped medical facility. Those letters have not been responded to,” he said.

“As his lawyers, we have taken a step further. We have written the comptroller-general, informing him of the dire situation our client finds himself presently and that except he is afforded quick medical attention, the story might change very soon because the truth is that we fear for his life,” he added.

His counsel also added that he has filed an application for his client to be granted bail on health grounds which the court has fixed Wednesday, January 20, to hear the application.

Maina, who is currently standing trial after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) prosecuted him on 12 counts bordering on money laundering to the tune of N2 billion, had jumped bail in September.

However, he was re-arrested in the Niger Republic and extradited to Nigeria to continue his trial before Okon Abang, judge of a federal high court in Abuja.

Lagos to auction 88 vehicles seized for traffic violation

The Lagos State Task Force on Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences (Enforcement Unit) said it had obtained an order of the Lagos State Mobile Court to auction 88 forfeited vehicles.

It was gathered that the forfeited vehicles were impounded for driving against the traffic in different parts of the state.

According to the Chairman of the agency, Shola Jejeloye, the drivers of the vehicles were arraigned before the mobile court, which ordered their forfeiture.

Jejeloye, who noted that the public auction would hold on Wednesday, January 20, 2021, at the agency’s car park, Alausa, Ikeja, urged private and commercial bus drivers to desist from driving against the traffic.

He said, “I want to urge motorists, both private and commercial bus drivers, to desist from driving against the traffic as the penalty is outright forfeiture of such vehicle to the government without any option of fine.

“The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, has directed operatives of the agency to continue prosecuting traffic offenders until sanity is restored to our roads and law-abiding citizens are allowed to commute without being impeded by unlawful individuals.”

Ifeanyichukwu was arrested 14 January on Monday while roaming near a five-star hotel in Juhu, where he planned to deliver the banned drug.

When the police accosted him, he quickly swallowed 12 pellets of the drug concealed in mini-plastic capsules.

The Mumbai police had to wait for him for 72 hours to excrete the pellets.

Reports said the Nigerian was taken to Sir JJ Hospital, where an X-Ray and CT Scan was conducted.

The medical examination confirmed the cocaine pallets in his abdominal area.

He was then placed under medical supervision, until he delivered the 12 capsules.

He purged himself of the drugs today, delivering the 12 pellets, each weighing approximately 1 gram.

Ifeanyichukwu has thus been charged with possessing the drug.

“This is the first time where a peddler was found carrying drugs in his mouth and distributing them.

“In such circumstances, it becomes very difficult for law enforcement agencies to ascertain the accused’s involvement and make an instant recovery” said Sameer Wankhede, IRS, Zonal Director NCB Mumbai.

On Sunday, the NCB Mumbai also arrested another Nigerian, Paul Chigbata Onuorah, for possession of 474 grams of Mephedrone and 38 grams of Hashish.

He was arrested from a spot on the valley Shilpa road near Kursk Bandhan chowk in Navi Mumbai’s Kharghar.

Following his arrest, the NCB raided his residence in sector 35 F, Sai Hera Park in Khargar area of Mumbai and found a small quantity of Mephedrone.

Drugs seized from his accommodation have been valued at an estimated Rs 50 lakh.

“Paul is a part of the distribution network of Drugs like Cocaine, Ecstacy, Mephedrone, and Charas in Mumbai and its outskirts. The investigation into the case is still in progress,” said Sameer Wankhede.

Nigeria records 1,617 new Covid-19 cases, total now 112,004

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has recorded 1,617 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 112,004.

The NCDC disclosed this on its official Twitter handle on Monday.

“1,617 new cases of #COVID19Nigeria; Lagos-776 Kaduna-147 Kwara-131 FCT-102 Plateau-78 Edo-59 Ogun-53 Osun-45 Rivers-37 Taraba-36 Nasarawa-34 Adamawa-33 Kano-26 Delta-20 Ebonyi-16 Bayelsa-11 Gombe-11 Borno-2.

“Our discharges today includes 289 community recoveries in Lagos State managed in line with guidelines,” the NCDC said.

Roommate of man accused of dating Lagos teenager stabbed to death

One Toheeb and his friends are currently on the run after allegedly stabbing one Akin Okebukola to death in the Alakuko area of Lagos State.

Punch Metro gathered that the men were allegedly mobilised by a woman, identified simply as Iya Abe, who was reportedly assaulted when a friend, Morenikeji Olawunmi, invited her and one Ajoke Bello, to threaten one Abu on the suspicion that he had been having s.e.xual relations with her 16-year-old daughter.

Angered by the injuries she sustained during the assault, Iya Abe reportedly informed her son, Toheeb, who mobilised two other yet-to-be-identified friends to Olawunmi’s residence on Oluobadare Street Gbadabiu area of Alakuko, on Saturday, January 18, 2020.

A resident of the area, Johnson Idowu, said Abu fled from home before Toheeb and his friends got there, adding that in a bid to avenge his mother’s injuries, the men pounced on Abu’s roommate, Okebukola, and allegedly stabbed him with broken bottles in his leg.

He said, “Immediately blood started gushing out of his leg, because his vein had cut, and he was rushed to hospital but died on the way. After Okebukola died, Iya Abe, Toheeb and his two accomplices ran away. The person who was killed knew nothing about what happened; he was the landlady’s son, who accommodated Abu in his room.”

Olawunmi said she was not the one who killed Okebukola, but blamed herself for the circumstances that lead to his death, adding that Abu, who was the cause of the incident, ignored advice to desist from seeing her daughter.

She stated, “My daughter has been behaving strangely lately and I do beat her so that she could stop the behaviour. I even reported her to one of our neighbours, who informed me that my daughter was fond of seeing one Abu, who was staying with my landlady’s son, Okebukola.

“I asked Abu and my daughter to stop seeing each other but they refused to obey me. I had to call Iya Abe and my friend, Ajoke Bello, to help speak to my daughter and threaten Abu, but in the process, Iya Abe was injured by Abu. So, Iya Abe held Abu down, and quickly informed her son, Toheeb, who came with two other boys.

“Abu quickly got himself freed from Iya Abe and ran away. So, when her son and the two other guys came, they chased Okebukola and stabbed him in the leg. We rushed him to three different hospitals, but he was rejected and that was how he died. I was not the one who killed Okebukola, but I blame myself for all that happened.”

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said Olawunmi would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Panti, Yaba, for further investigation, adding that some boys in the area, while protesting Okebukola’s death, destroyed both Iya Abe and Toheeb’s shops.

He stated, “When the incident was reported at the Alakuko Division, the Divisional Police Officer, SP Maryam Sonubi, mobilised policemen and the woman (Olawunmi), who alleged that one Abu was sleeping with her 16-year-old daughter, was arrested.

“During interrogation, she said she had warned him (Abu), but he refused to leave her daughter and she reported to some people, who called some boys, including one Toheeb, in the area to threaten him.

“It was out of annoyance that Toheeb’s mother called him because she was injured by Abu when they were threatening him to leave the woman’s daughter.

“So, Toheeb brought some guys to beat up Abu, who escaped, but his roommate, Okebukola, was attacked and stabbed to death. Unfortunately, the roommate was not the target.”

Adejobi explained that a manhunt had been launched for Toheeb and his accomplices, adding that Okebukola’s remains were deposited in the Ifo General Hospital for autopsy.

He added, “We were unable to pick the woman, who invited the boys. The boys also ran away but aggrieved youths in the community destroyed Toheeb’s shop and house for leading others to stab the victim.

“The Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, has launched a manhunt for Toheeb and his accomplices to get them arrested and brought to justice.”
