IGP orders arrest of Sunday Igboho over eviction notice

The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has ordered the arrest of Sunday Adeyemo aka Sunday Igboho, over an eviction order on Fulanis in Oyo State.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, confirmed this in an interview with BBC Hausa.

He told BBC Hausa the IGP told him on the phone order had been given to the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Ngozi Onadeko, to arrest Igboho immediately and transfer him to Abuja.

Igboho had ordered herdsmen in Ibarapa Local Government Area of Oyo State to leave within seven days, attributing the spate of banditry and killings in the area to them.

The activist was in Igangan in the Ibarapa North Local Government Area of Oyo State on Friday when Sunday Igboho and his supporters reportedly stormed the Fulani settlement in the town to eject the Seriki Fulani, Salihu Abdukadir, and some other herdsmen accused of fuelling security problems in the area.

Igboho had last week issued a seven-day quit notice to the Seriki and his associates.

Governor Seyi Makinde had ordered the Commissioner of Police to treat anyone fuelling ethnic tension as criminals.

Hotel harbouring suspected kidnappers demolished in Calabar

A hotel that allegedly served as a hideout for suspected kidnappers has been demolished by the Cross River State Government security outfit ‘Operation Akpakwu’.

The ‘Save side hotel’ located at 8 Miles area in Calabar Municipality was allegedly harbouring suspected kidnappers terrorising the state.

Speaking after the demolition at the weekend, the State Security Adviser, South, to Governor Ben Ayade, Mr Henry Okokon, alleged that most of the kidnap cases carried out in Calabar were planned and coordinated from the hotel.

He said the Homeland Security bill which was signed into law by Governor Ayade clearly stated that “anybody who aids, abets and harbours a criminal is also guilty of the crime.”

He said residents of the area lived in fear as they were harassed by the suspected kidnappers who took over the hotel.

“The demolition exercise is an ongoing process, it is part of the activities of Operation Akpakwu that was set up to fight criminality in the state, especially kidnapping.

“The governor had warned landlords who are harbouring criminals to desist from doing so. Therefore, anybody found to be harbouring, abetting, or aiding crime, must definitely be held responsible.

“This hotel is one of the buildings that have been harbouring criminals and the government has decided to bring it down.

“Ths is a warning signal to all, and I think everybody should be aware of this. The general public should be aware that security is everyone’s business.

“I want to state that all legal procedures were taken before this building was demolished. The police have equally done their investigation, that is why we have the Army, Navy, and Air Force personnel here on the ground,” he said.

According to Okokon, landlords and hotel owners should do a thorough background check of their tenants and guests before giving them accommodation.

Four houses owned by suspected kidnappers and a brothel were also demolished in Calabar recently.

Angry youths set Seriki Fulani’s house, 11 cars ablaze after Sunday Igboho’s visit in Oyo [photos]

Some angry youths have set ablaze the house of the Seriki Fulani of Oyo State, Alhaji Saliu Abdulkadir.

Daily Post gathered that the house was set ablaze in Igangan town in Ibarapa North Local government area of the State on Friday.

It was learnt that about eleven cars were also set ablaze during the incident.

It was gathered that the house was set ablaze few hours after the visit of Mr. Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho to the town.

Mr. Adeyemo had earlier issued a seven (7) day ultimatum to herdsmen who have been accused of kidnapping, killing and attack on innocent Nigerians in Ibarapa geopolitical zone of the state.

Abdulkadir also confirmed the attack on his house.

Man ties girlfriend to bed, sets her body on fire in gruesome murder

Police in Nairobi have launched a hunt for a middle-aged man who on Thursday morning killed his girlfriend and set her body on fire.

Margaret Muchemi, a resident of Njiru in Kasarani Sub-County, Kenya had invited her estranged boyfriend to her home to “iron out their differences”.

Muchemi, who had medical training, operated a private clinic in Mwiki, Kasarani.

The suspect, who was carrying a backpack, arrived at the deceased’s home at around 8am Thursday, Muchemi’s two house-helps, Damaris Nyamusi and Zainab Naila, told K24 Digital.

“We offered him tea, but he said he was okay. All through, he cut a figure of a quiet and disturbed man,” said the nannies.

After a while, Muchemi, a 34-year-old mother of one (a 4-year-old son), asked Nyamusi and Naila to both go buy meat at a nearby butcher’s shop.

“She told us she would pay via M-Pesa,” said Nyamusi.

“When we reached the butcher’s shop and ordered meat costing Ksh500, we called our employer and asked her to send the money, but she said she hadn’t loaded cash to her M-Pesa wallet. Consequently, we left the meat and returned home,” said Nyamusi.

“Upon arrival, Muchemi, who was visibly irritated, asked us why we couldn’t let her talk in private with her boyfriend. She, thereafter, gave us Ksh500 and told us to go buy the meat and hang around until she was ready to have us back in the house.

“Hours passed by, and we hadn’t received a call from her. One of us (nannies) called and told her that we were hungry, and wanted to go back home and eat. Muchemi, whose intention was to keep us out longer, sent us money and said we should eat at any nearby restaurant,” said the other house-help, Naila.

The nannies said while having their meals, one of their neighbours called and informed them that their house was on fire.

“We rushed home and found smoke billowing from our boss’s bedroom. Neighbours had attempted to put out the fire. On accessing our employer’s room, we found her arms and legs tied to the bed, and her body charred by the flames. Her face was completely destroyed by the fire. Her estranged lover, was nowhere to be seen,” said Naila.

After a spirited effort by the neighbours, the inferno was contained.

Nyamusi claims on Wednesday night she heard her boss speaking with her lawyer on phone saying that her (Muchemi’s) estranged boyfriend was demanding Ksh37,000 which he had lent her.

“She said the man had threatened to come collect the money today (Thursday, January 21),” said Nyamusi.

It remains unclear whether the suspect allegedly killed Muchemi over the debt or it was a case of love gone sour.

Police arrived at the scene at 4:30pm Thursday and collected Muchemi’s body for preservation at City Mortuary.

Kayole OCPD Paul Wambugu told K24 Digital that they have launched a hunt for the suspect.

The nannies, Nyamusi, who has been working for Muchemi for three weeks, and Naila, who was three days old at Muchemi’s home, said it was the first time they were meeting their employer’s estranged boyfriend.

“What we know is that our boss had separated from her lover months ago,” said the nannies.

Muchemi’s landlord, Mark Odete, described the deceased as a joyful and peace-loving woman.

Donald Trump's bizarre new life where staff must call him 'King' as he plots comeback

Rejected by America, Donald Trump’s enforced abdication as the world’s most powerful man was too much for his ego to take.

With his pride bruised, Nancy Pelosi claiming he could be an “accessory to murder” and aides and supporters deserting him in their droves, he was desperate to find the adoration he once commanded.

His post-presidential options will be defined by the fallout over his incendiary US Capitol speech on January 6 that spurred his supporters to riot, killing five and led to his historic second impeachment.

On the eve of the inauguration, House of Congress speaker Pelosi took aim at Trump. She said: “[The] President’s words are important, they weigh a ton. And if you’re Donald Trump talking to these people, they believe it and they used his words...

“This president is an accessory to that crime because he instigated that insurrection that caused those deaths.”

Still Trump bid farewell to his chaotic four years in the Oval Office with a speech in front of a couple of hundred loyalists as if he was still speaking to the masses.

The one-term president delivered a self-congratulatory address boasting of his achievements and touted his return.

His pitiful departure included a 21-gun salute, red carpet and the playing of Hail to the Chief.

With American flags blowing in the wind as his backdrop, Trump praised his administration’s efforts while blaming America’s pandemic deaths on “the China virus”.

“This has been an incredible four years,” he said as his sons Donald Jr and Eric looked on with sisters Ivanka and Tiffany.

He went on: “I just want to say goodbye, but hopefully it’s not a long-term goodbye. We’ll see each other again.

“I want to thank all the great people of Washington DC, all of the people that we worked with to put this miracle together. So, have a good life. We will see you soon. Thank you.”

No longer welcome in his native New York, Trump flew to his Florida mansion MaraLago where today he will wake up in silk sheets surrounded by his gaudy gold-adorned bedroom.

Gone will be the White House Rose Garden from his window, in its place his £12,000-a-year private members club’s croquet lawn.

He has returned to his Versailles, a 118-room paradise where his ego will be served as the private staff on the 18-acre estate refer to him simply as “King”.

He has defiantly spoken of running for office again, however if convicted at the upcoming Senate trial, Trump will certainly be barred.

His woes do not end there as he also faces legal cases over his company’s tax affairs, business dealings and from women who have accused him of sexual assault which he denies.

And whereas he once was courted by TV bosses and book publishers, he is now a pariah among some of America’s biggest businesses.

He has been barred from social media and cut him off from financial services.

The toxic effect on his real estate, hotel and golf resort empire could be devastating.

His brands are haemorrhaging money as he himself has guaranteed some £220million in loans – money his company currently does not have.

I dare you to arrest me - Sunday Igboho tells Makinde

Yoruba activist, Sunday Adeyemo -Sunday Igboho has dared Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde to arrest him for ordering Fulani herdsmen to leave Ibarapa.

Igboho had last Friday issued seven-day ultimatum to Fulani herdsmen in Igangan, Ibarapa North LG to leave the area over incessant killings of Yoruba people.

Makinde had countered him in a broadcast, saying everyone has the right to live anywhere in Oyo State.

Igboho, on Friday, after the expiration of the ultimatum addressed thousands of supporters in Igangan and again ordered Fulani herdsmen to leave.

But Makinde, on Friday asked the new Commissioner of Police in Oyo, CP Ngozi Onadeko, to arrest and treat those igniting ethnic tension in the state as criminals.

Makinde said that attempt to fuel security tension under any guise that would threaten the corporate vision of Nigeria would not be tolerated by his administration.

He said that his government was not against any ethic group, but was determined to flushing out criminal elements anywhere in the state.

He stressed that the Hausa/Fulani ethnic group residing in the state was not his government’s target, but hoodlums, bandits, irrespective of their tribes and religion.

But Igboho replied Makinde, daring him to arrest him, saying he would not believe his threat until he sent soldiers and police to arrest him.

“You can bring all Fulanis to Yorubaland, if you like, you unfortunate ones. It will not be well with you. You are threatening me in my fatherland with Fulanis. You will not prosper.

“Is it the Fulani’s that make the laws of the land? Have you forgotten when you were ‘bankrolling’ me when you wanted to become Governor and all I did for you all during the elections, and now you dare threaten me?

“Well, I don’t believe that you are serious with your threats yet, until you bring all the soldiers and policemen to arrest me in my house, before I know you are serious. You are all fools.”

10-year-old chokes to death during TikTok Challenge

A 10-year-old girl, Antonella Sicomero, has accidentally choked herself to death in Italy.

According to reports in Italy, the incident happened while she was taking part in a terrifying TikTok challenge.

The Sun UK reports that Antonella was found lifeless on the bathroom floor by her four-year-old sister in Palermo, Sicily.

She told her family she was going for a shower – but investigators are said to believe she was really filming herself for the online craze.

Antonella’s heartbroken dad Angelo said another of Antonella’s sisters told him she had been taking part in a TikTok challenge, La Repubblica reports.

He told the paper: “Antonella was playing the game of asphyxiation.

“My daughter, little Antonella, who dies because of an extreme game on TikTok, how can I accept it?”

Police in Sicily have seized Antonella’s phone and are investigating possible links to social media sites, according to reports.

Like the dangerous Blue Whale challenge, the craze Antonella is feared to have joined is a sick game that has been popular on TikTok over the past year.

Experts have warned of the risks associated with these challenges, including fainting, seizures, brain damage, and even death.

Public prosecutors in Palermo have opened two investigations for “instigation to suicide”.

Antonella’s mobile has been seized by investigators, who are looking into if she was broadcasting live, if she had been invited to play the game by someone else or if she was making the film for a friend.

Prosecutors also want to verify if she was copying videos of other TikTok users taking part in the challenge.

ANSA media agency report she arrived at the hospital in cardiac arrest yesterday.

Doctors fought to save her life but she was later declared brain dead and in an irreversible coma.

Her organs were donated to save three other children before her life support was switched off.

Dad Angelo said: “In this way, Antonella will save many children.”

TikTok said they would be fully cooperating with authorities.

A spokesman said: “Our deepest sympathies are with the girl’s family and friends.

“We do not allow content that encourages, promotes, or glorifies dangerous behaviour that might lead to injury, and our teams work diligently to identify and remove content that violates our policies.

“While we have not currently found evidence of content on our platform that might have encouraged such an incident off-platform, we will continue to monitor closely as part of our continuous commitment to keep our community safe.

“We will also assist the relevant authorities with their investigation as appropriate.”

Trump breaks silence as impeachment trial delayed

Former U.S. President President Donald Trump has spoken 48 hours after he left office, hinting that he’ll be back on the political scene soon.

In a brief interview with the conservative Washington Examiner, Trump said ” ‘We’ll do something, but not just yet’.

It was his first public comment since President Joe Biden was sworn in on Wednesday.

Blocked by Twitter and Facebook, Trump has been limited in speaking his mind, without inhibitions.

And he spoke as U.S. Senate Majority leader, Chuck Schumer announced that Trump’s second impeachment trial will be delayed till 8 February.

This will allow other urgent businesses, such as cabinet nominations, Biden’s Economic Rescue Plan to be dealt with.

The alteration in the impeachment calendar does not however stop Speaker Nancy Pelosi, from submitting the impeachment article as scheduled on Monday.

Trump meanwhile is lying low as he starts his new life as a Florida resident and golf club regular at his Mar a Lago in West Palm Beach.

I can cope with a cheating man — Actress Queeneth Agbor

Actress, Queeneth Agbor, says she can cope with a cheating partner but not a stingy one.

The Microbiology graduate of the University of Calabar told Saturday Beats, “I can cope with a cheating man, provided he ‘cheats responsibly’. He could cheat then make it up to me by spoiling me.

A man who cheats would eventually get tired of doing that, the same way King Solomon in the Bible got tired. History never fails to repeat itself. He would definitely get tired and change but a stingy man would remain like that for life. Stinginess is not permitted around me.”

Speaking on some of the habits she would love to drop in 2021, Agbor said she would quit making decisions in the heat of the moment.

“One habit I would love to drop in 2021 is making decisions in the heat of the moment. I would definitely put a stop to that and invest a lot of care into making decisions.”
