Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has revealed the State Government’s plan on Coronavirus vaccine rollout and the effort to bolster mass vaccination of residents in the State.
Sanwo-Olu disclosed, he is aiming to achieve 60 per cent vaccine rollout when the vaccination programme commences in the coming weeks, stressing that the figure would help check rate of transmission and build the resilience of the State against the ravaging virus.
The Governor spoke on “Sunday Politics”, a live television programme anchored by Channels TV’s Kayode Okikiolu. He also spoke on activities of his Government since inception and other germane issues around development of Lagos.
Sanwo-Olu said the State Government did not have the plan to make the Covid-19 vaccine available to all residents, as the State may not have the resources to do that; he said critical segments in the State population would be vaccinated to achieve herd immunity against the pandemic.
Aside the vaccine arrangement being made by the Federal Government for States, the Governor said Lagos, which is the epicentre of Covid-19 infection, had activated plans to augment the vaccine that would be delivered to the State.
Chelsea has fired its manager, Frank Lampard. Lampard, who is considered one of Chelsea’s greatest ever players after winning 13 trophies in a 13-year stint in west London, took charge in 2019 following a year in the Championship with Derby County.
He steered the west London club to a top four finish in his maiden season in the top-flight, but the mood has soured at Stamford Bridge this term with the Blues lagging behind their rivals despite a summer spend exceeding the £200million mark.
The 42-year-old has come under increasing pressure over the last few weeks with Chelsea currently sitting ninth in the top-flight, 11 points behind league leaders Manchester United
Chealsea's full statement on his sack below...
Chelsea Football Club have today parted company with Head Coach Frank Lampard.
This has been a very difficult decision, and not one that the owner and the Board have taken lightly.
We are grateful to Frank for what he has achieved in his time as Head Coach of the Club. However, recent results and performances have not met the Club’s expectations, leaving the Club mid-table without any clear path to sustained improvement.
There can never be a good time to part ways with a club legend such as Frank, but after lengthy deliberation and consideration it was decided a change is needed now to give the Club time to improve performances and results this season.
Roman Abramovich said,
“This was a very difficult decision for the Club, not least because I have an excellent personal relationship with Frank and I have the utmost respect for him.
“He is a man of great integrity and has the highest of work ethics. However, under current circumstances we believe it is best to change managers.
“On behalf of everyone at the Club, the Board and personally, I would like to thank Frank for his work as Head Coach and wish him every success in the future. He is an important icon of this great club and his status here remains undiminished. He will always be warmly welcomed back at Stamford Bridge.”
The Club will be making no further comment until such time as a new Head Coach is appointed.

Thousands of Brazilians took the streets for a second day on Sunday to call for the impeachment of President Jair Bolsonaro, who is under fire for his government’s response to rampant cases of Covid-19, which has claimed more than 216,000 lives in the country.
Horn-honking cars paraded through the streets of Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo and a dozen or more other cities as other protesters marched on foot, some calling, “Get out Bolsonaro!”
Sunday’s protests were called by conservative groups that had once backed the president, while those on Saturday had come from the left.
“When Bolsonaro arrived, we voted for him for his proposals that we found interesting, but the situation now with the pandemic is terrible”, said Meg Fernandes, a 66-year-old engineer who joined a protest in Rio on Sunday.
She said she was especially alarmed by the situation in the northern city of Manaus, where there’s a waiting list for hospital intensive-care beds and a shortage of medical oxygen.
“I had already been disappointed last year, but now with the situation in Manaus, I think (this government ) has to stop,” she said. “Bye, Bolsonaro.”
Thomaz Favaro, a political analyst at consultancy Control Risks, said Bolsonaro faces little risk of impeachment, though that could change if his allies lose a Feb. 2 vote for leadership of the lower house.
“Bolsonaro’s base in congress is unstable, but it is robust,” he said, though it could be dented by the president’s flagging popularity.
But he said impeachment would be “a nuclear option that changes the country’s political trajectory.”
Bolsonaro — who is midway through his four-year term — has faced renewed criticism in recent weeks both for the crisis in Manaus and for delays in launching Brazil’s immunization campaign against Covid-19.
The president has long resisted lockdown measures against the new coronavirus, arguing economic damage would be worse than the disease.
“We ask for an impeachment of Bolsonaro because it is not just a crime he committed. The way he treated the pandemic — He spent money on ineffective remedies instead of investing in the vaccine and in oxygen”, said Tiago Sussekind, a 21-year-old law student who joined the Saturday protest in Rio.
Carlos Ayres Britto, former president of the Brazilian Supreme Court, former Finance Minister Ciro Gomes and even singer Chico Buarque have called for the president to face impeachment for his response to the pandemic.
President Biden attended Mass with son Hunter on the first Sunday after he entered the White House — and then stopped on the ride back at a popular D.C. bagel joint.
The nation’s second Catholic president went to Holy Trinity Catholic Church in the Georgetown area of Washington, DC, the same church President John F. Kennedy, the country’ first Catholic commander-in-chief used to frequent.
Biden, 78, was accompanied by Hunter and Hunter’s two children, Finnegan and Maisey.
Asked about the service, Biden said it was “lovely.”
On the return trip to the White House, the presidential motorcade pulled over and Hunter Biden jumped out to make a quick run to Call Your Mother, a popular deli near the church known for their bagels.
Hunter stood at the takeout window for several minutes as the president and his granddaughters remained in the limo.
Biden attended mass at St. Matthew the Apostle with a contingent of Democratic and Republican congressional leaders the morning of his inauguration and Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband.

A Canadian woman won a $60 million jackpot using numbers from a dream her husband had 20 years ago.
Deng Pravatoudom, 57, played the digits for the last two decades — and it finally paid off last month, the Ontario Lottery and Gaming (OLG) said in a news release on Monday.
“I started to cry,” Pravatoudom said of hearing the good news.
“I have always prayed for a blessing that my family would be taken care of!”
The grandmother of two, who was laid off last spring amid the coronavirus pandemic, said she was grateful for the cash infusion.
“My husband and I have worked long hours as general laborers for over 40 years, trying to save what we could for our family…,” she said.
“This money will certainly help make our lives much easier.”
As an immigrant from Laos who came to Canada with her 14 siblings in 1980, Pravatoudom said that winning the jackpot had been beyond her wildest dreams.
“My family was sponsored by a local church and because we had nothing, I am thankful for the great support they provided us over the years,” Pravatoudom said.
The couple’s two kids were relieved when they heard about the big win.
“They said, ‘Mom and Dad you have worked so hard for 40 years and made many sacrifices, so you deserve this happiness!’” Pravatoudom recalled.
She and her hubby plan to move out of their apartment and buy a house with the winnings, as well as pay off some bills.

Aliko Dangote has sued his ex-American mistress identified as Autumn Spikes for “revenge p.o.r.n.”
Autumn, through her Instagram account @Allarounda1, had shared a video of herself and the richest African man on a couch draped in an orange blanket fiddling with his mobile phone with his buttocks clearly exposed.
She also posted pictures of Mr. Dangote alighting from a luxury plane in a private hanger, describing herself repeatedly as a ‘ForbesListSugarBabe’ in an apparent reference to her lover’s status amongst an elite list of world’s billionaires.
The raunchy images were later deleted by the woman, claiming she had been flooded with requests from bloggers to comment further on her affairs with Mr. Dangote.
She also rejected claims that she took her affairs with Mr. Dangote to social media to chase undue fame.
In follow up updates, she said she was trying to clean Mr. Dangote’s name from the mess earlier created by Bea Lewis, who described herself as a restaurant operator in the United States.
However, Mr Dangote, in the lawsuit filed in an American court in Miami, Florida, sought compensation of $30,000 with the claim that his reputation was battered by the “ForbesListSugarBabe.”
Meanwhile, Autum Spikes took to her Instagram account and threatened Mr. Dangote that he had taken the wrong turn by making the case public.
Autumn Spikes noted that the billionaire risked having additional embarrassing information about him published on the Internet as part of the suit.
Autumn also noted that Mr. Dangote had offered to pay her for her silence, an arrangement she rejected before the billionaire filed the suit.
“Aliko is suing me for declining his silence money.. How petty of him and his legal team,” she wrote.
She said the pair had been in a relationship for nine years without a non-disclosure agreement to gag her from publicly commenting on the affair.
Mr. Dangote’s lifestyle has been largely kept from the public until now. Little was known about him beyond his marriage and divorce in the past.
However, Dangote’s media aides are yet to comment on the scandalous affairs that seemed to be pointing at the billionaire’s steep appetite for glowing American women.
The police, in Ebonyi, have confirmed the death of eight persons and the arrest of more than 60 others, following clashes between Effium and Ezza Effium communities in the Ohaukwu Local Government Area of the state.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Aliyu Garba, made the disclosure on Sunday during a joint security operation, which included the state Deputy Governor, Dr. Kelechi Igwe, to the affected areas.
Garba, while stating that normalcy had returned to the communities, also confirmed that about eight houses, including a petrol station, were burnt.
“The crisis was fuelled by a leadership tussle at the area’s branch of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, involving old and new executives.
“The police have ensured adequate security and I doubt if anything would breach the peace in the areas again,” he said.
The police commissioner said that the presence of a joint security operation in the area will send a signal to the perpetrators of the dastardly acts that the force was ‘on ground’.
“It will also avert a re-occurrence of the clashes, and after investigations, the suspects will appear in court for prosecution.
“I can also confirm the arrest of stakeholders from the areas and anyone found culpable will be duly prosecuted,” he said.
Also speaking, Mr. Stanley Okoro-Emegha, the Commissioner for Border, Peace and Internal Security, commended the police, saying that their proactive response had helped in restoring normalcy to the areas.
“The commissioner of police has shown that he meant business, as he pleaded with the leaders and the people to allow peace reign, but unfortunately, they did not heed to the advice.
“We conducted a joint operation, which led to the arrest of the suspects. Even those in government, who were involved in the crisis, will be duly prosecuted,” he said.
He chided those giving political coloration to the clashes, noting that the government had shown enough resolve to duly prosecute the culprits, no matter their political affiliations.
The deputy governor, however, called for calm, saying that government would ensure that the situation was permanently nipped in the bud.
Bolu Okupe, son of former presidential aide, Dr Doyin Okupe, speaks to AFEEZ HANAFI on his s'e'xual orientation as a gay and his father’s remarks
Your dad, in two separate Facebook posts, expressed strong belief that you would reconsider your s'e'xual orientation as a gay someday. What is your view on this?
S'e'xual orientation is not something that one can “reconsider”. This is the way I am and it is the way I have always been and will always be. I and many others in the LGBTQ (Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer) community were born the way we are, many may not understand this but stop and think for a second, why would we intentionally choose this lifestyle when we know that we will be ridiculed and shamed by society? I do hope that one day we can, as Nigerians and Africans, get to the point where we love and accept each other regardless of things such as sexual orientation.
Your father equally said your s'ex'ual status is anti-Christ. How do you feel about it?
I will just say that I love and appreciate every one of my family members, my father inclusive, because if not for him, I definitely would not be able to live the life that I currently live. So, I will never utter anything disrespectful (to him) on any platform. With regard to homos'e'xuality being anti-Christ, this is not incorrect, as many have pointed out to me. It is clearly forbidden in the Bible; however, I would like to also mention that there are a lot of things that are also forbidden in the Bible that many Christians partake in. So, it confuses me why people of the Christian religion feel like they can pick and choose what to be morally superior about.
Considering the fact that your father was part of the ex-President Goodluck Jonathan-led administration that passed anti-gay law in Nigeria, do you have any regrets?
I do not have any regrets about coming out. Whether people like it or not, it (the law) has started a discussion on this topic within the Nigerian atmosphere that was necessary. Being gay is not “Western” or “European.” There are many gay people in Nigeria, they just do not have the ability to openly live that way due to fear of criticism and judgments similar to the reactions that I received. I hope one day homos'e'xuality can be decriminalised in Nigeria. However, I know that we have a long way to go before we get there.
Why did you choose to be gay?
I did not choose to be gay. No one chooses their se'xual orientation. The same way people do not choose to be straight, you just know.
At what point did it occur to you that you’re one?
From the age of 10 or 11 I knew I was different, and if you speak to more people in the LGBTQ community they will tell you the same thing, it starts around pre-puberty years. We would progress more as a society if we spoke more to each other and judged less. If people take time to have conversations with people of the LGBT community and understand their point of view and perspectives, you will realise that most of us are really not trying to harm anyone and there is no “agenda.” We simply just want to exist and be entitled to the same basic human rights as everyone else.
By being gay, does that mean you don’t want to have children?
I will have my own children and a beautiful family someday. There are many ways for gay men to have children such as In Vitro Fertilisation or even through adoption.
Do you think your orientation can change if you relocate to Nigeria where homos'e'xuality is abhorred?
My orientation can never change. As I stated before, if I was still living in Nigeria I would likely be living the same way all the millions of gay men there live, in secrecy. What happens in Nigeria is that many gay men lead a double life and this is not a life that I want for myself. Our time on this earth is short and limited and you don’t want to waste it living a lie or pretending to be something that you are not. There are also many Nigerian women who are married to gay men and basically their whole lives and marriages are a complete sham. Some know, some don’t, but I would never be able to do that to another human.
Two young men were on Saturday caught by some residents of Abeokuta for alleged robbery.
They were said to have been arrested by the people around Ibara GRA after they had attacked no fewer than two landlords in the area.
According to a video made available to Daily Post correspondent, the men were three in number, operating with a motorcycle to aid their escape after robbing victims.

Sunday Igboho has reiterated his position that Fulani herdsmen must leave Oyo State.
The Yoruba activist made the declaration to a team of soldiers and policemen.
In a video obtained on Saturday, Igboho told the security agents he would not back down on his demand.
“I don’t want any herdsman in the whole land. C’est fini! (it is finished)”, he asserted.
Igboho might be arrested anytime soon, going by orders given to the police by the federal and Oyo governments.
On January 15, he ordered Fulanis in Igangan, a community in Ibarapa North Local Government Area, to leave the State.
Igboho blamed them for the spate of murders and abductions in recent months. He stormed the area again on Friday.
His comments and actions have generated diverse reactions across the country.
Reacting to the arrest order, Adewale Giwa, Senior Pastor of Awaiting The Second Coming of Christ Ministry, called for restraint.
The cleric, who said Igboho’s arrest “will hasten the disintegration of Nigeria”, accused President Muhammadu Buhari of shielding the Fulani “while they continue to kill our people”.
“Why didn’t IGP arrest Miyetti Allah and their representatives in Abuja? Sunday Igboho is doing the right thing for the entire Yoruba nation”, Giwa added.
Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, spoke in a similar vein.
The former presidential aide advised the federal government to thread softly, noting that Igboho has the full support of the Yoruba.
“When the Northern youths demanded that Igbos should leave the North, no one was arrested.
“Kill Igboho and you make him a martyr for Oduduwa, arrest him and you make him the greatest hero of the Yoruba since independence. Whichever way he wins”, FFK said.
