Imo community boils as military revenge killing of colleagues

Orlu Local Government area of Imo State is currently in turmoil as military men allegedly went on rampage, killing several civilians in revenge for their dead colleagues.

It was gathered that a group, Eastern Security Network (ESN) said to be an offshoot of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) set up by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu had taken on the military men and killed a few days ago.

Dailypost correspondent, who spoke with a resident in the community, learnt that the crisis had degenerated to a more worrisome situation, leading to shutting down of shops and market places.

The resident further said that the Orlu main town was impassable at the early hours of today due to military takeover and this, according to him, had resulted in several loss of lives.

He appealed to the state and federal government to quickly intervene to avoid more loss of lives, disclosing that the crisis had lasted for more than four days.

Ondo woman Seun Oladayo arrested for selling baby to Pastor for N10,000

Officers of Ondo Security Network, popularly known as Amotekun have arrested a woman, Seun Oladayo, for allegedly selling her newborn baby for N10,000.

The 22-year-old sold the baby shortly after giving birth to a Pastor, identified as Olawale who reported the incident to Amotekun officers.

Oladayo said that she decided to sell her baby after realizing she could not afford to cater for her as the father had deserted her since she told him she was pregnant.

The suspect also confessed that she cut the umbilical cord of the baby herself after the delivery with the motive of killing her.

“I did it because I don’t know how I am going to take care of the baby. So I told the Pastor to take the baby away and bring N10,000.

“It is true I was dating a man called Tope. He asked me if I am pregnant so he could open a shop for me and I said yes. Since then, I did not see him again and I already have one child that I have been taking care of before I was pregnant again for Tope.”

The Pastor who reported the case to Amotekun officers said the woman’s brother identified as Yinka asked him to bring N10, 000 in order to buy the baby as they were not interested in keeping the baby.

The Pastor noted that he suspected that the baby’s birth must have been induced as they were indications that it was not yet time for the delivery.

“I was told to bring N10,000 so that they can give the doctor N5, 000 for his job and I did because if I did not, another person would come and buy the baby.

“The baby was given to me in a sack with the placenta and I went to Amotekun’s office to explain what happened and the woman was arrested.

Oladayo has been handed over to the Police at Area Commander, Yaba in Ondo by Amotekun officers.

NDLEA to conduct drug tests on tertiary institution students

The Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Brig. Gen. Mohammed Marwa (retd.), has ordered the state commanders of the agency to mop up illicit drugs across the country.

He also hinted that the agency would seek government’s approval to conduct drug tests on students of tertiary institutions, security personnel and newly appointed government employees

Marwa stated this during a meeting with commanders of the 36 states, Federal Capital Territory and special commands at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja, on Monday.

While tasking the commanders to rid the streets of illicit drugs, the NDLEA boss also admonished them to “shape up and get all those engaged in the nefarious business to face the music, and I need results from now on”.

He noted, “Our maxim will be offensive action. This means we must go all out constantly on the offensive against the bad guys.

“The success we make of this particular task goes a long way to determine the socio-economic stability of the nation. We need not be told of the nexus between drug use, crime and criminalities.

“The exponential growth of the nefarious drug activities can be directly linked to the upsurge in crimes such as insurgency, terrorism, kidnapping, cultism, political thuggery, gangsterism, rape and other mal-adaptation bedevilling today’s Nigeria.”

Marwa, who promised to implement the National Drug Control Master Plan, said toll-free call centres/helplines would soon be set up to enable the members of the public to give information or seek intervention from the agency.

“We would soon propose to the government the necessity for drug tests for all tertiary institutions’ students, NYSC members, new workers, all security agencies’ new recruits and random tests for government appointees,” he stated.

EFCC loses money laundering case against Atiku’s lawyer

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has lost the money laundering case against Uyiekpen Giwa-Osagie, a lawyer to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

Uyiekpen, a senior lawyer in the firm of Africa Law Practices (ALP), and his brother, Erhunse, were trialed before a Federal High Court in Lagos on a three-count charge of money laundering to the tune of $2M (Two Million US Dollars).

One of the counts reads: “ That you, Uyiekpen Glwa-Osagie and Erhunse Giwa-Osagie, sometime in February 2019, in Nigeria, within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court conspired to commit an offence to wit: making cash payment of the sum of $2,000,000.00 (Two Million United States Dollars) without going through financial institution, which sum exceeded the amount authorized by Law; and you thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 18(a), and 1(a) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011 as amended and punishable under Section 16(2)(b) of the same Act.”

Mr Shehu, who was led in evidence by the prosecution counsel, Kufre Uduak, had also informed the court that the Commission, sometime in 2019, received intelligence that some politicians were moving around with US Dollars to influence the result of the last general elections.

He said: “It was also revealed that the sum of $1.6m (One Million, Six Hundred US Dollars) was given to one Alhaji Lawan Abdullahi, a Bureau De Change Operator (BDC).

“Based on this intelligence, my team conducted investigations and recovered the sum of $1,459m (One Million, Four Hundred and Fifty-Nine Million US Dollars) and N50m (Fifty Million Naira) in cash.

“It was also discovered that the money came from a company called Guensey Trust Nigeria Limited controlled by the first defendant (Giwa-Osagie) trust for Atiku Abubakar.”

In his further testimony, the witness told the court that Guensey Trust received into its own account the sum of €26m (Twenty-Six Million Euros) from a foreign company, Intel West Africa.

According to him, “The money was then converted into Dollars, which was $30m.

However, Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke on Monday held, among others, that the EFCC failed to establish that the money alleged to have been delivered to former President Olusegun Obasanjo, during the 2019 election, was illegal.

Court drops case against four EndSARS protesters

A court in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja, on Monday discharged four out of six protesters arrested in November for demonstrating outside the National Assembly.

Last year, Africa’s most populous country was swept by weeks of widespread protests sparked by anger over brutality from the police’s loathed Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS)

The government disbanded the unit and pledged reforms but still struggled to contain the largest challenge to Nigeria’s governing elite in decades.

The six defendants were arrested on November 8, 2020 and charged with unlawful assembly.

Defence lawyer Henry Akwaji requested the case be dismissed because the prosecution team was absent from court on Monday.

The court agreed and dismissed the case due to a lack of diligent prosecution.

“Defendants, Olutosin Adeniji, Abdusalam Zubarur, Paul Akinwumi, and Devour Chomo are discharged and the complaint against them dismissed,” magistrate Musa Eneye ruled.

The remaining two, Yasidu Bashiru and Kabiru Garzali, were absent from court due to illness. The case against them was adjourned until March 24.

Police probe Apostle Suleman for allegedly sleeping with pastor’s wife

The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has ordered a probe of the General Overseer of Omega Fire Ministries International, Apostle Johnson Suleman, for allegedly sleeping with the wife of Pastor Mike Davids, threatening his life and denying him access to his children.

The woman Apostle Suleman is accused of sleeping with is known as Pastor Faith Edeko, who heads the Abuja branch of Omega Fire Ministries in Utako while her husband, Pastor Davids, has left the church.

The IGP conveyed the order in a letter addressed to the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Force Intelligence Bureau, Garki, dated January 5, 2021.

The letter, with reference number CB:7000/IGP.SEC/ABJ/Vol.515/561, was signed by the Principal Staff Officer II to the Inspector-General of Police, ACP Iliya Doma.

The letter is sequel to a petition written by V.C Ezenagu & Associates on behalf of the aggrieved Pastor Davids who accused Apostle Suleman of threat to life and preventing him from seeing his three children.

The police letter is titled, ‘Re: Criminal Petition Against Apostle Johnson Suleman for Enticement of a Married Woman; Adultery; Unlawful Criminal Restraint to Access Children and Threat to Life’.

The letter reads in part, “I attach herewith a copy of a letter dated December 30, 2020 with its attachments received from V.C Ezenagu & Associates on the above underlined subject. The Inspector-General of Police directs that you treat. Accept the assurances of my esteemed regards please.”

In the petition he sent to the IG, Davids said he met Apostle Suleman in 2003 while he was in school. He said they became very close and he was eventually ordained a pastor of Omega Fire Ministries on June 9, 2006 by Apostle Suleman and served the church for over 15 years before his exit in 2019. He attached his pastoral certificate with licence number 125 to the petition.

In three videos posted on Instagram on Sunday, the aggrieved pastor accused Suleman of sleeping with his wife and destroying his marriage.

Davids, who wept in the videos, said he began a relationship with his wife in secondary school and they courted for about 11 years before marriage.

He said in 2008 he introduced his wife – who was still his fiancée at the time – to Apostle Suleman whom he regarded as his spiritual father and she told him that Suleman had been making advances at her and once invited her to Reliance Hotel, Benin, but he never regarded it as anything serious.

The aggrieved pastor said things finally began to go downhill when he was posted to Osun State in 2010 shortly after the birth of their daughter, Michelle, in November 2009

The petitioner said Apostle Suleman was setting up a gospel television station and then said he would need the assistance of his wife who was an employee of NTA.

He said it was during the visits to Apostle Suleman that he eventually slept with his wife but what made it more painful was that the act was done in the presence of their child.

Davids said, “My wife was a staffer with NTA Iruekpen, so Apostle Suleman reached out to her that they will need her to build Celebration TV and Rhema for Living. She would have to shuttle between Osun State and Auchi.

“She came back from Auchi to Osun State and said she wanted to talk to me that her conscience was pricking her. I asked what was it and she said that while in Auchi, Apostle Suleman lodged her at Uyi Grand Hotel and he came there and slept with her.

“And the moment she said that, the first thing that came to my mind was my daughter. I asked where was Michelle when this happened and she said Michelle was on the bed, pushed aside and I asked, ‘You mean you slept with a man with my daughter on the bed?’. I had to let it go because there was nobody I could tell and I couldn’t fight with Apostle Suleman… I forgave her but the amorous relationship continued. One thing I know is that my wife was hypnotised. This is not the woman I got married to, who I knew for 11 years.”

Davids said his relationship with Apostle Suleman soon turned sour and he was suspended but after the suspension was lifted, he refused to return and then started receiving threats from Apostle Suleman.

He alleged that when he left the church in July 2019, his wife started to fight with him and then his wife left the house with their three children and they relocated to Abuja.

The pastor said though estranged, he and his wife remain married because their marriage has not been dissolved by a competent court.

Davids said, “Apostle Suleman has given her a branch of the church in Utako, Abuja to head without permission. I am calling on Pastor David Oyedepo, Pastor Paul Enenche, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, Pastor Margaret Idahosa, CAN, PFN.

“Apostle Suleman has damaged my life. I have not seen my wife and children for two years and Apostle Suleman says if I ever go near them, he will have me taken out. I have a video where he said he will make me disappear. I don’t want to lose my life.”

However, his wife, Pastor Faith Edeko, in a video described her husband’s allegations as cheap blackmail, adding that it was the petitioner that abandoned the marriage and when her relatives reached out to him, he refused to return home.

She said the ordeal affected her health and she even contemplated suicide but her son stopped her.

Pastor Edeko, who wept in the video, said she never slept with Apostle Suleman, adding that she did not even have easy access to him.

She said, “There are recordings which I will upload. You told my brothers that I would crawl in the gutters. I told them not to do anything to you, that you are still the father of my kids. At some point, I contemplated suicide. I had written my suicide note, I had bought sniper because I could not fathom how I would live life in so much pain. I won’t drag you because of my children… you have done too much and it is enough. I am not hypnotised. I am not under a spell.”

She said she did not abandon her marriage. Rather, it was her husband who abandoned the family and even demanded a refund of her bride price from her family.

She said, “I don’t know what you hope to achieve, I don’t know who paid you but the only thing I will say is haven’t you done enough? Are you not tired of flogging someone’s daughter in pain?

“You left me in Kano. You called me on a certain day that you were going to leave the marriage. I thought you were bluffing. I called my people and they can testify. My elder brother called you from the UK. You told them you were leaving the marriage. My elder brother told me you were bluffing.

“I remember I begged you and then I got to the office and I collapsed, according to what my principal said because I found myself in the hospital.”

She said that no one was preventing Pastor Davids from seeing his children, adding that he lived in the same city with them but had refused to visit.

Attempts to reach Apostle Suleman proved abortive as his telephone line indicated that it was switched off. A text message was not responded to.

However, Resident Pastor, Omega Fire ministry, Headquarters, Joseph Iyare, who responded on behalf of Apostle Suleman in a terse text message, said Pastor Davids is “frustrated by his own evil deeds”.

Covid-19 vaccine: Lagos targets 60% roll out as state engages Pfizer, other vaccine developers

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has revealed the State Government’s plan on Coronavirus vaccine rollout and the effort to bolster mass vaccination of residents in the State.

Sanwo-Olu disclosed, he is aiming to achieve 60 per cent vaccine rollout when the vaccination programme commences in the coming weeks, stressing that the figure would help check rate of transmission and build the resilience of the State against the ravaging virus.

The Governor spoke on “Sunday Politics”, a live television programme anchored by Channels TV’s Kayode Okikiolu. He also spoke on activities of his Government since inception and other germane issues around development of Lagos.

Sanwo-Olu said the State Government did not have the plan to make the Covid-19 vaccine available to all residents, as the State may not have the resources to do that; he said critical segments in the State population would be vaccinated to achieve herd immunity against the pandemic.

Aside the vaccine arrangement being made by the Federal Government for States, the Governor said Lagos, which is the epicentre of Covid-19 infection, had activated plans to augment the vaccine that would be delivered to the State.

Breaking: Chelsea fires Frank Lampard + full statement

Chelsea has fired its manager, Frank Lampard. Lampard, who is considered one of Chelsea’s greatest ever players after winning 13 trophies in a 13-year stint in west London, took charge in 2019 following a year in the Championship with Derby County.

He steered the west London club to a top four finish in his maiden season in the top-flight, but the mood has soured at Stamford Bridge this term with the Blues lagging behind their rivals despite a summer spend exceeding the £200million mark.

The 42-year-old has come under increasing pressure over the last few weeks with Chelsea currently sitting ninth in the top-flight, 11 points behind league leaders Manchester United

Chealsea's full statement on his sack below...

Chelsea Football Club have today parted company with Head Coach Frank Lampard.

This has been a very difficult decision, and not one that the owner and the Board have taken lightly.

We are grateful to Frank for what he has achieved in his time as Head Coach of the Club. However, recent results and performances have not met the Club’s expectations, leaving the Club mid-table without any clear path to sustained improvement.

There can never be a good time to part ways with a club legend such as Frank, but after lengthy deliberation and consideration it was decided a change is needed now to give the Club time to improve performances and results this season.

Roman Abramovich said,

“This was a very difficult decision for the Club, not least because I have an excellent personal relationship with Frank and I have the utmost respect for him.

“He is a man of great integrity and has the highest of work ethics. However, under current circumstances we believe it is best to change managers.

“On behalf of everyone at the Club, the Board and personally, I would like to thank Frank for his work as Head Coach and wish him every success in the future. He is an important icon of this great club and his status here remains undiminished. He will always be warmly welcomed back at Stamford Bridge.”

The Club will be making no further comment until such time as a new Head Coach is appointed.

Thousands take to streets in Brazil for a second day to call for President's impeachment

Thousands of Brazilians took the streets for a second day on Sunday to call for the impeachment of President Jair Bolsonaro, who is under fire for his government’s response to rampant cases of Covid-19, which has claimed more than 216,000 lives in the country.

Horn-honking cars paraded through the streets of Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo and a dozen or more other cities as other protesters marched on foot, some calling, “Get out Bolsonaro!”

Sunday’s protests were called by conservative groups that had once backed the president, while those on Saturday had come from the left.

“When Bolsonaro arrived, we voted for him for his proposals that we found interesting, but the situation now with the pandemic is terrible”, said Meg Fernandes, a 66-year-old engineer who joined a protest in Rio on Sunday.

She said she was especially alarmed by the situation in the northern city of Manaus, where there’s a waiting list for hospital intensive-care beds and a shortage of medical oxygen.

“I had already been disappointed last year, but now with the situation in Manaus, I think (this government ) has to stop,” she said. “Bye, Bolsonaro.”

Thomaz Favaro, a political analyst at consultancy Control Risks, said Bolsonaro faces little risk of impeachment, though that could change if his allies lose a Feb. 2 vote for leadership of the lower house.

“Bolsonaro’s base in congress is unstable, but it is robust,” he said, though it could be dented by the president’s flagging popularity.

But he said impeachment would be “a nuclear option that changes the country’s political trajectory.”

Bolsonaro — who is midway through his four-year term — has faced renewed criticism in recent weeks both for the crisis in Manaus and for delays in launching Brazil’s immunization campaign against Covid-19.

The president has long resisted lockdown measures against the new coronavirus, arguing economic damage would be worse than the disease.

“We ask for an impeachment of Bolsonaro because it is not just a crime he committed. The way he treated the pandemic — He spent money on ineffective remedies instead of investing in the vaccine and in oxygen”, said Tiago Sussekind, a 21-year-old law student who joined the Saturday protest in Rio.

Carlos Ayres Britto, former president of the Brazilian Supreme Court, former Finance Minister Ciro Gomes and even singer Chico Buarque have called for the president to face impeachment for his response to the pandemic.

Asked about the service, Biden said it was “lovely.”

On the return trip to the White House, the presidential motorcade pulled over and Hunter Biden jumped out to make a quick run to Call Your Mother, a popular deli near the church known for their bagels.

Hunter stood at the takeout window for several minutes as the president and his granddaughters remained in the limo.
