Disgraced footballer jailed for having s.e.x with 14-year-old girl

A former professional footballer has been jailed for having s.e.x with an underage girl and taking a photograph of his friend in bed with two naked 14-year-olds the same night.

Ex-Bradford City winger Tyrell Robinson, once with Arsenal's academy, was almost 20 when three 14-year-old girls joined him and his friend Korie Berman at his flat in Bradford in August 2018.

The player, since sacked by the club, knew the girls' ages and had discussed with Berman the fact they were underage, Bradford Crown Court heard.

Robinson, now 23, was jailed for three-and-a-half years after he admitted s.e.xual activity with a child, making an indecent image of a child and distributing an indecent image of a child.

The indecency charges related to taking a photo on his mobile phone of Berman with two drunk, n.*.ked 14-year-olds in the footballer's spare room.

Robinson then shared the photo with Berman, along with emojis indicating sexual activity and the police, the court heard.

Berman, then aged 19 and now 22, was jailed for six years after admitting five counts of s.e.xual activity with a child.

Gillian Batts, prosecuting, said Robinson had met the victims at a social event he had been told not to attend by club bosses.

Bradford City had given all players safe-guarding training regarding young and vulnerable people, including not to give under-18s their contact details, the court heard.

But Robinson did make contact with two of the girls after the meeting and was aware they were underage.

He messaged one saying: "I think you are stunning but your age is a killer."

Berman at one point messaged his friend to say: "Bro why dat ting from your ends so sexy?"

The footballer replied telling him she was only 14 and to "calm down" - something the sentencing judge called "nothing short of hypocrisy" given what was to happen later.

The court heard Berman looked up a BBC website article titled "What happens if you have underage sex" and took a screenshot of it.

The court heard Berman had sex with one of the 14-year-olds on two separate occasions at Robinson's flat - when the footballer was away - and gave his victim nitrous oxide from a balloon on the second occasion, which made her light-headed.

On August 13 2018, three girls who had already drunk vodka came to the player's flat where Berman and Robinson gave them more alcohol shots.

The two girls Robinson photographed with Berman had little or no recollection of what he did with them, the court heard, but he told police they had s.e.x.

They were both violently ill later.

Robinson took his victim to his bedroom and had s.e.x with her, stopping when one of the other girls came in to tell his victim that her mother was one the phone.

In the following days Berman tried to save Robinson, telling the mother of one of the victims that the footballer would lose his job.

Berman was arrested at the player's flat while Robinson was arrested at Macclesfield Town's ground, where he told police: "Is this about my mate, I have been worried about him?"

Marie Spenwyn, for Robinson who is from South Ockendon, Essex, said: "He has let his family down and everyone who believed in him, from the Arsenal academy to Bradford Football Club."

She said his football background, including being away from home at an academy from a young age, lead his "maturity to not be what it should be".

Lagos bans trucks, trailers from plying roads in day time

The Lagos State Government on Wednesday banned trucks and trailers from plying roads in the state during day time.

The government said trucks and trailers were now restricted to night operations on Lagos roads in order to avert rising carnage’s on roads during day time.

The restriction order would soon be implemented by the government.

The State government met with officials of various truck unions in Ikeja on Wednesday to make its position known on the proposed the implementation of route restrictions for trailer and truck drivers operating within the State and movement period restricted to night.

Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde announced that the current administration has mapped out dedicated routes to be plied between 9:00pm and 6:00am daily.

He said the move was necessary as the Apapa area of Lagos has been rendered less profitable for investors in all sectors due to the gridlock and activities of truck drivers along the axis, appealing further to Stakeholders to cooperate with the State Government to remedy the situation.

Oladeinde urged stakeholders to put aside their sentiments and think of other motoring public as this isn’t geared towards spitting them but opening up the State for greater economic realities, adding that attitudinal change on the part of truck drivers was necessary if any progress would be made.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Hon. Oluwatoyin Fayinka declared that none compliance from truck drivers would be met with the full weight of the Law with sanctions exerted on offenders, advising that they utilize the grace period to get their act together and conform with the directives issued out.

While requesting the Nigerian Port Authority to furnish the Ministry with information on vehicles call up schedule on daily basis,  Fayinka maintained that it would also help control the influx of vehicles into Lagos, especially Apapa ports and prevent the loitering of tankers and trucks along road corridors with its attendant damage on road infrastructure which contributes to traffic gridlock.

6 year-old boy mauled to death by abandoned pit bull

A six-year-old boy has been mauled to death by an abandoned dog his mum found and was trying to rehome.

Cameron Hatfield was attacked by the pit bull at his family home in South Carolina days after his mum took him in as a stray.

Police were called to the scene last Wednesday but the little boy, who was known affectionately as Jayce, was already dead when they arrived.

On January 15 Jayce's mum Victoria LaBar wrote a Facebook post saying she had found the dog on her property and suspected may have been dumped by hunters in the area who no longer wanted to care for him.

She described the dog as a "sweet boy' and had asked for someone to give him a new home.

Hours after his death the distraught mum explained what had happened in a Facebook Live video.

Victoria sobbed throughout the 90 second clip as she said the family had been taking care of the stray pit bull while she tried to find him a new home.

“My six-year old little boy was attacked early this afternoon by the pit bull that I had been trying to find a home for," she said.

"It had been abandoned on our property.

"I was an advocate for pit bulls and what happened today happened so fast that there was nothing that anyone could do."

Victoria said the dog had been behaving well with her family and small animals until the "unexpected' attack which was over within “a second.”

Appealing for the family to be left to mourn, she added: "It doesn't feel real that we will wake up tomorrow and our son won't be here," she added.

Victoria also updated her earlier Facebook post to let people know Jayce had been killed by the dog.

She wrote: "It took was a second and he ended my boys life. My other dog and husband even tried to get the dog off my boy.

"Whoever you are the you dropped your trained to kill hunting dog off and thought nothing of the consequences of your action."

The dog has been put down and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) are investigating Cameron's death.

Man arrested for impregnating his wife's 15-year-old friend

A 22-years-old security guard who impregnated his wife’s 15-year-old friend has been charged with defilement at Kibera law courts.

The guard is accused of luring the minor to his cousin’s house in Kawangware, Nairobi  Kenya where he allegedly defiled her during the day before going home to be with his wife.

The minor is said to have been his wife’s friend and a regular visitor at her house before the suspect started ensnaring her.

She reportedly eventually agreed to be his lover after he promised to make her his wife and take her to his rural home but sent her away after he knew her parents were looking for her.

After weeks at her parents’ home, it was discovered that she had gotten pregnant.

The guard denied the charges before senior principal magistrate Esther Bhoke and demanded that his wife’s interest in the case be investigated.

The suspect was freed on a bond of Sh300,000, with a surety of a similar amount.

The case will be mentioned on February 9.

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Wednesday honoured former governor, Babatunde Fashola by naming the LagosHOMS, Iponri after him.

The project is now known as ‘BRFHOMS, Iponri’.

The governor commissioned the project on Wednesday, delivering additional 132 homes to the housing stock in the area.

“I must say it is always a thing of joy for me to see the vision of a Greater Lagos actualized and the hope of a better life for our people becoming a reality. Our mandate is only fully achieved when the lives of our people are made better. We are motivated to invest more in every area of endeavor as much as lives are touched. That’s our pledge: to make a positive impact in all aspects of the lives of our people,” he said.

‘My kidnappers sold me to hardened herdsmen’ - Edo NIS PRO speaks after abduction

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) Edo State command, Mrs. Bridget Esene, has narrated how the five gunmen that abducted her on way to church in Benin on Sunday sold her in the forest to hardened kidnappers suspected to be herdsmen with a plot to kill her.

The middle-aged woman also revealed she saw hell in the hands of the kidnappers, which she would never wish on her enemies before she was rescued around 4 pm on Tuesday by the police and vigilance members.

She said: “My abductors were meant to assassinate me. The armed men, numbering five, trailed me to my church at Ikhueniro, Benin City, where they kidnapped me.

“I was forced into their car and driven out of the church premises by the gunmen, who later sold me to another set of hardened kidnappers, who are suspected herdsmen.

“Upon sighting the kidnappers, I attempted to escape, but I was intercepted at gunpoint by the hoodlums, who later took me into the forest.

“Some fully-armed kidnappers were on the ground to receive me in the forest. Having been sold to the suspected herdsmen, I was moved deeper into the forest.”

Family members confirmed huge ransom was paid before Esene regained her freedom.

Bauchi government spends N21.75m on refrigerators for Covid-19 vaccines

The Bauchi State government has spent over twenty-seven million Naira to procure refrigerators for Covid-19 vaccines in the state.

The state government claims the refrigerators are to be used to store the 1,900 doses of the Pfizer vaccines that will be allocated to the state by the Federal Government.

These procurements were revealed by the Executive Secretary, Bauchi State Primary Health Care Development Agency (BSHCDA), Dr Rilwanu Mohammed in an exclusive chat with Daily Post.

He said the state government bought the refrigerators directly from the manufacturers at the cost of N10.5million each, adding that they were installed at the cost of N750,000.

The BSPHCDA boss informed that Bauchi State was ready for Covid-19 vaccines, adding that it had the capacity to even store the whole 100,000 doses being expected.

“All is well in Bauchi. When we heard that the Federal Government is to receive about 100,000 doses of Pfizer vaccine and it required -70 degrees, the governor of Bauchi State and his deputy called us that we need these refrigerators to maintain these vaccines.

“So we swung into action. We got the company that supplied -86 refrigerators. The two of them are here. We installed the two of them and they are working at -86 centigrade. The capacity is about 678 litres, each one. We have even the capacity to store even the vaccines that are coming into the country,” Dr Mohammed said.

“We made sure that the two of them were here even before any other states, even before the Federal Government. We have installed the two of them. We are prepared.

“Even if they bring the vaccines today, we are ready to collect it. We don’t have any challenge. We want other states to emulate what Bauchi has done,” he added.

Osun council boss, wife in multi-million naira fraud

Documents seen by SaharaReporters have shown how the Chairman of Ife South Local Government Area of Osun State, Mufutau Adegbite, illegally diverted N50m from the council’s account for personal use.

Adegbite allegedly misappropriated the funds using his wife, Alimat, who is a treasury officer at the council.

SaharaReporters gathered that the N50 million was a loan obtained by the council boss from a new generation bank.

The funds were moved in tranches between December 24, 2018 and January 21, 2019.

A source said the council boss has been telling people he is untouchable because of his closeness to Governor Gboyega Oyetola.

Investigations also showed that Adegbite, without due process and against regulations, selectively awarded contracts or just merely invited whosoever he wanted and handed contracts out to them. In many of these cases, the contracts were awarded to family members.

“He is using his wife to siphon council's funds; the wife is a treasury officer at the council and also the First Lady. He (Adegbite) moved the council account to another bank after he was offered a N50 million loan.

“The governor is aiding the malfeasance by ignoring a series for petitions against him.”

Meanwhile a source at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission told SaharaReporters that Adegbite might be in deep trouble except he can explain many actions he took which bother on misappropriation of funds.

According to the source, the anti-graft agency has commenced investigation into the activities of the council boss.

Court admits more evidence in Naira Marley’s fraud trial

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos State has admitted more exhibits in evidence in the ongoing trial of hip-hop singer Azeez Fashola, popularly known as ‘Naira Marley.’

Justice Nicolas Oweibo in his ruling on Wednesday admitted the Compact Disk containing the phone analysis of the singer, tendered in evidence by the second prosecution witness Anosike Augustine on the ground that the iPhone which was analysed has been admitted in evidence before.

The judge overruled the objection of Naira Marley’s counsel Olalekan Ojo (SAN) and admitted the CD in evidence marked exhibit ‘F.’

“l have considered the agreement of both parties as well as the ground for the objection, I consider the CD to be admissible in view of the nature of this case and the evidence of other prosecution witness,” Oweibo said.

The trial of the case could not proceed because the defence counsel, Olalekan Ojo, was not in court and sought an adjournment.

The adjournment was not opposed by the EFCC’s counsel, Bilkisu Buhari.

Justice Oweibo adjourned the further trial to 8th and 11th of March, 2021.

Recall that the anti-graft agency had on May 20, 2019, arraigned Naira Marley on 11 counts of money laundering and Internet fraud.

The EFCC alleged that some of the credit cards discovered in his residence bore the names Nicole Louise Malyon and Timea Fedorne Tatar.

But he pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

The EFCC said that the offences contravenes Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act and the Cyber Crimes Act.

Fayose calls on ICC, others to prosecute sacked Service Chiefs for human rights abuses

A former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has called on relevant bodies to probe the service chiefs who were relieved of their duties yesterday, January 27.

Fayose who accused the former service chiefs of serving themselves and their pockets described their sack as a “step in the right direction.”

He tweeted; “Though coming after persistent pressure from Nigerians, President Buhari’s removal of the Service Chiefs and their replacement is a right step in the right direction. It is yet another victory for the people of Nigeria.

The sacked Service Chiefs only served themselves and their pockets and can at best be described as “Disservice Chiefs” under whom Nigeria became completely unsecured.

It is my call to the ICC and other relevant authorities that tenure of the “sacked” Service Chiefs should be investigated, most importantly human rights abuses and extra judicial killings under their watch and commands.

The new Service Chiefs should learn from their immediate predecessors and remember nothing lasts forever.''

Obaseki opens up! Edo has no funds to hold sports festival

The Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has called on the Federal Government to help in funding the National Sports Festival, scheduled to hold in the state.

Obaseki said the state is ready to host the 20th edition of the sports event but does not have the financial capacity to host 11,500 athletes and officials.

Obaseki, who received members of the Main Organising Committee from the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development in Benin City on Tuesday, said Covid-19 had taken its toll on the finances of the state.

He said: “Since March last year, you know the financial strength of most states, sub-nationals and countries. For us as a state, we are ready to host but don’t have the funds at this point in time to host the Games; this is the plain truth.

“If the Federal Government however in its wisdom decides to bring the funding for the Games, we will be too willing to host the country. We have to live with COVID-19 because it has come to stay; even with the vaccination, the virus will still be around. Canceling the Games is not the solution to this issue. We have to sit down and look at all these issues critically before reaching a final decision.”

Obaseki added, “Beyond the Games itself, which is an instrument of unity and a way of engaging the youths, there is the Tokyo Olympics to prepare for. But how do we prepare for the Olympics without Edo 2020? Can we afford to expose our young people to the dangers of COVID-19 or would there be other Olympics in the future? We have to balance these things.

“We have to make a decision whether we want to go to the Tokyo games. If we want to, how do we prepare Nigeria’s contingent, where are the trials?”

However, Nebeolisa Anako, who led the delegation to Obaseki’s office, expressed delight with the facilities inspected by the committee for the festival scheduled to hold from February 14 to 28.

“We are here to look at the preparedness of the state and determine how it would be hosted in a safe manner, considering the pandemic. What we saw while inspecting the facilities for the festival gladdens my heart. It shows that the state government is prepared to host the event. We are also looking at the funding for the Games.”

Japan Prime Minister apologises as lawmakers’ go clubbing despite covid-19 pandemic

Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga apologised on Wednesday after lawmakers from his ruling coalition visited night clubs despite his government’s call for people to avoid unnecessary outings to curb the spread of Covid-19.

The news is another headache for Suga whose approval rating has tumbled due to dissatisfaction with his handling of the pandemic, which critics have called too slow and inconsistent.

“I’m terribly sorry that this happened when we are asking people not to eat out after 8 p.m. and to avoid non-essential, non-urgent outings,” Suga told parliament.

“Each lawmaker should behave to gain the public’s understanding.”

Japan this month issued a state of emergency in Tokyo and other areas to tame a sharp increase in Covid-19 cases. The measure includes a request for restaurants and bars to close by 8 p.m. although there are currently no penalties for non-compliance.
