I ignored Beyoncé’s email for 2 months – Yemi Alade reveals

Yemi Alade has revealed she ignored Beyonce‘s email for two months.

The sensational singer disclosed this in an interview with OSG, during which she talked about how she nearly lost out on her collaboration with Beyonce on “Black Is King” visual album.

Speaking with OSG, Yemi said she ignored “Queen Bey” for two months, thinking it was from fraudsters.

She said, “We thought it was a scam email… I wasn’t the one receiving the emails, my management was and the thing is that, you have to be a crazy beyond fan like me to know her company’s name is “Parkwood”, So you’re getting emails from “Parkwood” about a collaboration with Beyoncé?!… My manager was telling me that he keeps getting these messages from Parkwood. He sounded very irritated and he was thinking of maybe blocking the email… and I asked him what did you say? Did you say “Parkwood?” I said (screams) that is Beyoncé!!!!…”

Speaking on how long it took for them to actually respond to the email, Yemi Alade said “it took a while.. we were at the end of the collection like..they’ve been working on this for a while, maybe a month or two, I think even someone at some point came to Nigeria and they were trying to meet me but you know how some people are, they don’t want some people to meet some people.”

Immediately after learning of her manager’s error, she immediately boarded a plane to Las Vegas, and made her way to Beyoncé’s studios.

“I had no idea what was coming. When we were done with the meeting, I went back to my apartment. I just woke up the next morning I couldn’t talk, definitely could not sing. I had no voice, I pushed and I got something out of it,” she said.

“Your problem is my problem” – Makinde tells Ibarapa people

Governor ‘Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, on Sunday, met with selected stakeholders, local government chairpersons and political office holders from the Ibarapa zone, where he declared that the problems of the people are his problems.

The governor, who stated this while speaking in Igbo Ora, said that he feels the pains of the people of the area and that the visit would enable him to find lasting solutions to the lingering insecurity issues in the area.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, quoted the governor as saying these while addressing council chairpersons and political office holders from Ibarapa Central, Ibarapa East and Ibarapa North, in Igbo Ora, late on Sunday.

He stated that the state has approved the setting up of Peace and Security Committee at the local government levels, adding that the state government would put in place other security measures to ensure peace in the area.

He also disclosed that the government had directed the immediate take-off of an identity management programme to enable it to know who is who in the communities.

He said: “The take-home from the interaction for me is that it is a collective problem and I can see the commitment from everybody to find a solution to this.

“And, at least, I am quite glad that some of the initiatives that the government is trying to put in place to stem insecurity are coming to fruition.

“We will ensure that our identity management programme takes off as quickly as possible. We will also ensure the setting up of peace and security committee that is all-encompassing in the councils.”

The governor also urged political office holders to always call the attention of the government to the happenings within their localities, saying that he decided to sleep over in Ibarapa to feel the pulse of the people.

Insurgents destroy electricity tower, blackout hits Maiduguri

Residents of Maiduguri and environs have been thrown into lingering blackout following the destruction of one of the towers supplying electricity to the city from the national grid.

The blackout, which has lasted for one week, has grounded many businesses that are relying on power.

Those operating on generators are managing to render skeletal services.

Some residents, who spoke to newsmen, not only condemned the action of the insurgents but lamented the continued inability of the authorities concern to restore the power.

“It’s now one week and most people don’t know why there is no electricity in Maiduguri.

“We need to know what caused it and efforts by the power company to address the matter.

“You can’t leave people in darkness without explanation,’’ a resident, Ibrahim Abubakar, said.

Also, a welder, Moses Bala, said the development has grounded his business because he solely depends on electricity from the national grid for his work.

“Because of steady supply over the months, I solely depend on power from government and now that there is no power for one week; I remain out of business.

“I can’t afford a generator as I am still young in this business,’’ Bala said.

He appealed to the authorities concern to expedite action to restore the electricity.

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, on Monday, stressed that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration will never tamper with the independence of the media.

Adesina spoke on AriseTV The Morning Show monitored by The Nation.

Reacting to the question the Buhari government has allegedly tampered with media freedom especially with the shutting down of an online news platform — Peoples Gazatte, he refuted the claims saying the current administration will never tamper with the independence of the media.

He said, “…This government never clamped down on the media, it has never done, and will never do.. This government will never tamper with the independence of the media, and freedom of the press. If any columnist is alleging that, it is within his right…

US police handcuffed, pepper-sprayed 9-year-old black girl

A nine-year-old Black girl was handcuffed and pepper-sprayed by police in the US city of Rochester, footage released Sunday showed, sparking new outrage over excesses committed by the country's law enforcement.

Deputy Police Chief Andre Anderson said Sunday the girl -- who has not been named -- had been suffering from a serious mental health emergency, reportedly threatening to take her own life and that of her mother.

Officers called to the scene on Friday responded by handcuffing her, before trying to force her into a car and pepper-spraying her when she resisted, body cam videos released by the city's police force showed.

Footage of police violence against African-Americans, including the May killing of George Floyd, sparked a summer of protests across the US against racial injustice and police brutality last year.

Rochester police on Saturday claimed they were "required" to use handcuffs and the irritant against the girl for her own safety.

Mayor Lovely Warren condemned their use of force against a child, pledging an internal review of the city's law enforcement practices.

"It is clear from the video that we need to do more supporting our children and families," she said at a press conference Sunday.

"I have a 10-year-old child, so she's a child, she's a baby," she added.

"This video, as a mother, is not anything you want to see. We have to understand compassion, empathy."

Army seizes power, arrests civilians, declares state of emergency in Myanmar

Myanmar's military has seized power after detaining civilian leader Aung San Suu Kyi and other senior members of her governing party.

All authority has been given to the top army commander and a one-year state of emergency has been declared, a statement on military TV said.

The coup follows a landslide win by Ms Suu Kyi's party in an election which the army claims was marred by fraud.

She urged her supporters to "not accept this" and "protest against the coup".

In a letter written in preparation for her impending detention, she said the military's actions put the country back under dictatorship.

Myanmar, also known as Burma, was ruled by the armed forces until 2011, when democratic reforms spearheaded by Aung San Suu Kyi ended military rule.

China bans use of mobile phones in classrooms

China's primary and middle schools have introduced a ban on mobile phone use in classrooms, among wider efforts to protect students from internet and video game addiction, the Ministry of Education announced on Monday.

Primary and middle school students should not bring mobile phones into classrooms, Xinhua news agency quoted a circular issued by the Ministry as saying.

If students must have a mobile phone at school, a special request should be submitted to school authorities along with written consent from their guardians, said the Ministry.

Once the request has been approved, students should hand in their mobile phones to relevant school authorities upon arrival.

The phones will be kept together and should by no means be allowed into classrooms, according to the circular.

Further measures will be put in place by schools to better meet students' needs in reaching their parents over the phone while on campus.
