We will starve schoolboys to death – Abductors of Kagara students threatens

Abductors of the 27 students and 15 workers of Government Science College, Kagara, Niger State,  have threatened to starve them to death if the ransom they are demanding is not paid on time.

One of the abductors stated this in an audio recording made available to Punch on Wednesday by a prominent Islamic cleric,  Sheik Ahmad Gumi.

In the audio recording, the abductor, who spoke in Hausa, was heard conversing with a negotiator, identified by Gumi as a top official of the school.

He rejected N2.7m offered him as ransom for the 27 abductees.

The bandit stated, “I don’t have food for them. If anybody dies among them, we will tell you where to go and pick the corpse.

“You know these children are hungry. I don’t have food to give them, only water if they are going to die, let them die.”

The negotiator said it would be difficult for him to get the phone numbers of all the parents as requested by the bandits.

The bandit responded that he was aware that many security agents and vehicles had been deployed in Kagara, vowing they would not succeed in rescuing the abductees.

He asked,  “You think I don’t know what you people are doing? I can tell you how many security vehicles are in Kagara as we speak.

“It is with the help of the people of the city that intruders can overrun the city. Don’t you know that? The person who gave us this business is there among you. He is there with you. Wherever you go, he is watching you. If you want to do this deal, go ahead. From God we come and to him we will return.

“Even if you put together the entire security forces of Nigeria in Kagara, I have eyes all over Kagara. Whichever step you take in Nigeria, I swear,  I will know. You people are saying they should not pay us, that if they pay us, we will use to money to buy weapons.  With whose money did we buy our weapons? If we don’t have weapons, you will just send security agents to kill us and take the children.”

Appealing to the bandit, the negotiator stated, “They (parents) have agreed to pay N2.7m. Each parent will pay N100,000 .”

But the abductor rejected the offer threatening to unleash terror on Kagara.

The abductor stated, “If I want Kagara to be in peace, it will be in peace. If it is not going to be in peace, it will go in pieces from here until Ilorin. If I die in this process, I have children that I have instructed that if I die that I don’t want Kagara to be peaceful if you don’t do as I say. Even if I die, nobody will come into Kagara.”

He also berated governors, who said they should not be paid ransom.

He added, “Governors are saying we should not be given money because we are going to use it to buy guns; guns that Allah provides and you are boasting about.

“In all of your (Niger State) madness, you are not up to Zamfara. It was compelled to accept our terms and talk less of small fries like you. You see, if you want to seek peace, seek peace and if you don’t stop the activities of vigilantes in Niger you will not know peace forever.”

“Your deploying security officials in Kagara is a waste of time. Is there a fence in this forest? You know we are not in the cities, we are in the forest.”

Appealing to the bandit further, the negotiator stated, “I pray that you assist me the way Allah has helped you. In fact, one of the parents has been on admission in hospital since the abduction.”

Bank manager in ‘secret’ wedding saga in Rivers

Wife of a Port Harcourt branch manager of a new generation bank, Blessing Oko Ikpor, has raised the alarm over the alleged bewitchment of her husband, Anthony, by a mistress (name withheld).

Mrs. Ikpor, a mother of four, told newsmen in Port Harcourt that the husband is under a spell apparently cast on him by the mistress.

She alleged the mistress deceived him to abandon their 17- year- marriage without any known issues between them.

The heart broken wife accused her husband of holding a secret traditional hotel in a hotel in Umuahia, Abia State where the alleged mistress hails from.

She said mistress in question is pregnant for her husband.

But contacted by The Nation, the bank manager said he has been separated from the estranged wife for over two years.

The wife, he said, has their only daughter while the three boys are with him.

The wife was seen in a viral video fighting with the alleged mistress in the husband’s office before security guards intervened.

He said: “The video about this matter has fine viral in the last two three weeks and she has also done press statement and sent out, I have refrained from making comments because the matter is in court.

“I am aware that concerned friends and citizens have made response directly on those issues. The fact is that my children are involved in this and try to maintain some level of privacy for my own sake and that of my children.

“I do not think this what I should be stating on the social media at the moment. My first son is 15 and he has told me that he is not happy with what is going on and I should make sure I do not join issue with such, and that is where I stand in this.

” If she knows the appropriate way to do things, I do not think what she us doing is the right thing but she should know that a man in my level is not a mad man to wake up to do all those things.”

He added: “My children are living with me, my three boys are living with me and they have left for school and they are doing very well.

“Whatever petition she is sending to anyone, the truth is that I have seen worse than that on social media, just like I said earlier, I refrained from making comments on this, because I believe it is not the appropriate thing to do.

“We have separated for more than two years now but she still lives with my daughter. I am not going to say anything further on this until all issues are resolved. I do not see this as the best way to go about it, but since she thinks it is for her, I wish her the best.” he concluded.

However, Mrs. Ikpor maintained the matter is not yet in court because she has not been served writ of summons.

She narrated how the affair between her husband and the alleged mistress started.

“It all started when the woman came to do one year Industrial Training (IT) with the branch of the bank the husband heads.

“Friends and relatives of the family used to inform me of the closeness of the woman to my husband and their movements in hotels and other places but because of the level of trust I had in the husband, more so a serious Christian, who preaches on the pulpit, I refused to either believe them (rumour mongers) or confront him with any of those.

“One day I overheard my husband calling one of my uncles that works with NYSC here in Port Harcourt to plead on the girl to be posted to Rivers state for her youth service and my uncle asked him what his interest was in the girl that he made such request. I realised that it was not actually what I think

“One day my daughter felt sick I took her to hospital and before we came back my husband had changed all our house keys and locked up my three other children in a room upstairs.

“He left to God knows where, switching off his phones, efforts by our Pastor to intervene in the matter failed because he could not be reached.

“I thought of breaking the keys because my children were crying upstairs and all that but Pastor called me to say I should not break the doors and I stopped.

“I cannot pinpoint what actually the problems were. Before this time we were living happily. I supported him in thick and thin.

“There were no problems and with God on our side and prayers, he rose to where he is now and now this. I know that my husband is under a spell of the woman and unfortunately her parents are supporting her in this.”

Facebook bans Myanmar military accounts citing the coup

Facebook said it has banned all remaining accounts linked to the Myanmar military on Thursday, citing the junta's use of deadly force against anti-coup demonstrators.

The move, which takes effect immediately, applies to the military and entities controlled by the armed forces on both Facebook and Instagram.

It also bans all "military-linked commercial entities" from advertising on the platforms.

"Events since the February 1 coup, including deadly violence, have precipitated a need for this ban," the social media giant said in a statement.

"We believe the risks of allowing the Tatmadaw on Facebook and Instagram are too great," it added, using the Myanmar name for the country's armed forces.

Security forces have steadily increased the use of force against a massive and largely peaceful civil disobedience campaign demanding Myanmar's junta relinquish power.

Three anti-coup protesters have been killed in demonstrations so far, while a man patrolling his Yangon neighbourhood against night arrests was also shot dead.

The military has used Facebook to boost its claims that voter fraud had marred an election last November that ousted civilian leader Aung San Suu Kyi had won in a landslide.

Kanye West 'tried to SELL jewellery bought for Kim Kardashian... days before she filed for divorce'

Kanye West reportedly tried to sell some of the jewellery he had bought for his estranged wife Kim Kardashian, just days before she filed for divorce.

The rapper, 43, is said to have visited two jewellers to get quotes for the items he was considering selling.

A source told The Sun: 'In the last two weeks, Kanye was attempting to sell jewellery he had purchased for Kim to at least two top jewellers.

'Kanye recently said, "I don't want to be connected to the Kardashian brand anymore" but he was so torn because he still very much loves Kim.

'Although he never ended up selling the jewellery he was talking about how he didn't want to be reminded of the past.'

The insider added Kanye 'really wanted to stay together but she was done'.

During their marriage, the Stronger hitmaker splashed out millions building Kim's jewellery collection.

These included a $1million Lorraine Schwartz diamond necklace as her push present for North, her 15-carat engagement ring worth $3million, two Cartier bracelets and a vintage Cartier gold plaque necklace with a text from Kanye etched into it.

It is not known what items out of Kim's vast collection Kanye reportedly wanted to sell.

Iranian woman ‘hanged after dying of a heart attack’

An Iranian woman who died of a heart attack while waiting to be executed was allegedly still hanged.

The woman, named in reports as Zahra Ismaili, was reportedly made to watch as 16 men were hanged in front of her while waiting her turn at Rajai Shahr Prison, west of the capital Tehran.

The mother-of-two had been convicted of killing her husband, who was a senior official in the Ministry of Intelligence, according to The Times.

Her lawyer, Omid Moradi, claimed her husband had allegedly been abusive to both her and their daughter and that she had acted in self-defence.

Mr Moradi is said to have described how the events unfolded on Wednesday in a Facebook post, which claimed his client’s body was still hanged after she collapsed, to allow her husband’s mother to kick a chair away from beneath her.

According to the Iran Human Rights Monitor (HRM), the post, which has reportedly since been deleted, said Ismaili’s death certificate gave her cause of death as “cardiac arrest”.

Mr Moradi reportedly wrote: “It states cardiac arrest as cause of death because yesterday 16 men were hanged before her eyes. Zahra’s heart stopped and she died before she was taken to the gallows.

“They hanged her lifeless body, and the victim’s mother personally kicked the stool from under her feet so she could see her daughter-in-law’s corpse on the gallows for even a few seconds.”

Three Nigerian governors are sponsors of terrorism – FFK

Femi Fani-Kayode has alleged that three Nigerian governors are sponsors of terrorism in the country.

But he refused to name the governors he accused of sponsoring terrorism.

Fani-Kayode, in an interview with Punch Mobile on Tuesday, was reacting to Governor Samuel Ortom’s calling of Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi a terrorist.

While he denounced Ortom’s comment, Fani-Kayode said Mohammed could never be regarded as a terrorist because he knew him too well.

He, however, said he knew governors who could be referred to as terrorists in Nigeria as they clearly sponsored terrorism.

“There are some governors in this country, I will not mention their names, two or three, clearly are sponsors of terrorism, clearly have supported terrorism, and clearly have pleasure watching terrorists in their respective states killing people within the indigenous population, particularly the Christian population.

“There are also some people, governors who have suffered in the hands of foreign Fulani herdsmen. Zamfara State governor is an example, but he has been able to tackle the issue of bandits and scaled it down,” he said.

Fani-Kayode also said not all Fulani people were bad and killers and that it was wrong for people to brand all Fulanis terrorists.

Identical twins BOTH undergo s.e.x change surgery [photos]

The first identical twins in the world to both undergo gender reassignment surgery have revealed they 'never identified as boys' and their first shower as women was 'magical'.

Mayla Phoebe de Rezende and Sofia Albuquerck, 19, made the transition they long dreamed of together, in what their doctor calls a first.

They underwent the five-hour surgery one day apart at the Transgender Center Brazil, a clinic in the southeastern Brazilian city of Blumenau on 13 and 14 February.

'This is the only reported case in the world' of twins who were presumed to be male at birth undergoing female gender confirmation surgery together, said Dr Jose Carlos Martins, who performed the surgery.

Growing up as identical twins, Mayla and Sofia always did everything together, and their decision to undergo gender confirmation surgery is no exception.

A week after the surgery, the euphoric young women smiled, joked and shed tears as they talked about their shared journey in a video-conference interview with AFP.

'I always loved my body, but I didn't like my genitalia,' said Mayla, a brunette who is studying medicine in Argentina.

'I would blow dandelion seeds into the air and wish for God to turn me into a girl,' she said.

When she saw herself after her surgery, she wept, she said.

Mayla, who has been pictured in her bikini since the surgery, told local media of her happiness with her new body.

'Before being sedated in hospital, I still couldn't believe my dream was being fulfilled.

'When I woke up, I couldn't believe it. It's something that's still sinking in. I no longer feel that discomfort when lying or sitting down. It's a wonderful thing.'

She added: 'My first shower after being discharged was magical.'

Her sister, Sofia, is more reserved.

But their camaraderie is clear. They finish each other's sentences while sharing stories of how they supported each other through the bullying, sexual harassment and violence they were subjected to in childhood and adolescence.

'We live in the most transphobic country in the world,' said Sofia, a blonde who is studying civil engineering in Sao Paulo.

'At school it was very difficult,' said Mayla. 'Some classmates even threw notebooks at my head.'

61 dogs ready to be slaughtered are saved in Cambodia

Sixty-one dogs have been saved from being turned into dog meat after they were found crammed into six tiny metal cages on their way to a Cambodian slaughterhouse.

The dogs, who were packed on top of each other, were being taken to be slaughtered in Kampong Cham, southeastern Cambodia on Sunday.

But the minivan transporting the dogs was intercepted.

It is the first government-led interception of canines in the country since the dog meat ban came into force in Siem Reap in July last year.

The lucky dogs, which were both strays and stolen pets, were taken from the crowded minivan and authorities arrested the driver.

Most of the pups were youngsters and many showed signs of severe heat exhaustion and dehydration. Charity workers believe they hadn't eaten for days.

Sore loser! Senator Smart Adeyemi's daughter, Gbemi comes for Dino Melaye for daring to imply her sibling is a drug addict

Recall Dino Melaye had yesterday jumped on the trend of Senator Adeyemi Smart and Abia State Governor coming back and forth for each other.

He jumped on the trend and apologised to the Governor saying a man like Senator Smart shouldn't have made the statement he made by calling the Abia State Governor ''drunk'' for not taking care of his people.

Dino jumped on the trend implying one of Senator Smart's children is a drug addict -- a thing his daughter, Gbemi Smart has debunked.

While debunking the news, Gbemi munched Dino's tweet and shared on her Insta-story, saying the former Senator is only pained that her father dethroned him and threw him out of the Senate legally. She also begged the Senator to stop roping she and her siblings because none of them are into politics.

 Sore loser she called him!

Police asked to release Ifeoma Abugu’s corpse for proper burial

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) panel has ordered the police to release the corpse of Ms Ifeoma Abugu, who was allegedly murdered by operatives of the defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) in Abuja.

Recall that Abugu a graduate of the Institute of Management and Technology, Enugu State was arrested on September 10 when SARS operatives stormed the residence of her fiancé, Adam Ugwunwa, in Wumba village, Lokogoma.

Man tortured to death over missing goat in Benue

Six men who reportedly kidnapped and tortured a man to death in Lessel community, Ushongo LGA of Benue state have been arrested.

According to reports, the unnamed man was killed over a missing goat after an oracle pointed him out as the culprit.

The suspects were arrested on Tuesday, February 23, 2021.

A certain Ordue Akume, who is the youngest sibling of the deceased, was alleged to have reported the disappearance of his goat to the community youths.

During the investigation, they decided to consult an oracle, who revealed to them that it was the deceased that stole the goat.

When queried about the missing goat, the deceased, however, denied the allegation.

In a bid to ensure that he admitted and returned the said goat, the suspects persisted with all forms of torture despite pleas by neighbours and passers-by to halt the torture.

When it dawned on them that the deceased may likely not survive the grievous torture, they moved and dumped him at a private clinic where he passed away.
