Continuous mass abduction: Ministry of Education to relocate pupils from Borno, Yobe and Adamawa

Following the series of mass abduction of schoolchildren by Boko Haram terrorists and other criminals in the northern part of the country, the Federal Ministry of Education says it has begun the relocation of pupils from Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states to other states.

It also said the Safe Schools Initiative of the government had not stopped, noting that its implementation was being intensified and re-invigorated.

The Director of Press and Public Relations in the ministry, Ben Goong, stated these in an interview with Punch.

Boko Haram terrorists had in the past abducted pupils, women and girls from the three states, including Chibok in Borno State and Dapchi in Yobe State. Also, criminals had in recent times kidnapped pupils from some North-Western states.

When asked what the Federal Government was doing about schools located in high-risk areas in the north, Goong said, “As we speak, there are quite a number of students from Borno, Yobe and Adamawa States being relocated to other schools across the country, including the Federal Capital Territory.”

He cited the example of some students from Borno State who he said had been relocated to the Federal Government College, Kwali, Abuja.

He said students were being moved to safer schools and were being catered for with full boarding facilities.

He added that the Federal Government would be carrying out some enlightenment campaigns especially among the military to discourage the use of school facilities for military-related activities.

This, he said, was necessary so that such schools are not attacked.

Two abducted on Ife-Ibadan Expressway

The driver of a commercial bus and a passenger were Saturday evening abducted by gunmen along near Wasinmi Village, along Ife-Ibadan Expressway.

According to sources, immediately after the incident happened, police operatives at a checkpoint close to the scene of the crime engaged the abductors in an exchange of gunfire.

But the abductors were said to have escaped through the bush with two people.

The spokesperson of Osun Police Command, Yemisi Opalola, confirmed the incident, saying operatives had been deployed to the scene of the crime.

She also said three suspects had been arrested.

2 Nigerians sentenced to death in Ghana for killing 4 women

Two Nigerians, Samuel Udoetuk Wills and John Orji , have been sentenced to death by a high court in Sekondi, Ghana over the kidnap and murder of four Takoradi women in 2018.

The death sentence was passed on them yesterday after a seven-member jury found them guilty of the eight counts of conspiracy to kidnap and murder.

The case had dragged for about two years before Saturday’s sentence.

The presiding judge, Richard Agyei Frimpong, said the suspects have the right to appeal the judgment within 30 days.

The two Nigerians were accused of kidnapping and killing Ruth Abakah (19); Priscilla Blessing Bentum (21); Ruth Love Quayson (18) and Priscilla Koranchie (15).

The girls were captured between July and December 2018 at different locations, including Kansawurodo, Butumagyebu, Nkroful junction all in Sekondi-Takoradi of the western region in Ghana.

On January 4, 2019, after months of fruitless checks, relatives, friends and some residents went on a demonstration demanding justice.

The police finally discovered their bones in a septic tank in the house of the lead suspect, Wills. A DNA test confirmed that they were indeed the remains of the four girls.

After their remains were discovered and further investigations were conducted including results of the DNA samples taken from their families, Wills and Orji were charged with conspiracy and murder.

I’m doing God’s work talking about s.e.x – Destiny Amaka

Media personality and actress, Destiny Amaka, has said that though some people criticise her for talking about s.e.xual issues on social media, she feels she is doing God’s work.

She told Sunday Scoop, “Being labelled is something one cannot avoid. It is better I am myself and be labelled, than be someone else and still be labelled. I no longer care about things like that because of the demand for what I do. My inbox is flooded with real life issues. 

Without being blasphemous, I strongly feel like I am doing God’s work. Marriages and homes are being healed, and so are individuals. I hope to work with the United Nations to bring more awareness to this. It is deeper than just talking about s.e.x and positions.”

Amaka also stated that many people were uninformed about s.e.x. She added, “My motive on this matter is how uninformed many people are on such issues, yet we see every day, how perverse some people can be. 

Did you know that Nigeria was once one of the countries with the highest downloads of gay porn in the world? Who are we kidding? Women, just like men, want to enjoy s.e.x. Gone are the days that we (women) would just lay there and keep quiet.

 For years, men have felt inadequate because of porn. Women have also been taught to not enjoy s.e.x or be vocal, yet marriages crash daily because of this same issue. I spend at least 30 per cent of my time counselling married couples. The appreciation people show me for saving their marriages keep me motivated.”

Speaking further, the actress also stated that some Nigerians were hypocrital about s.e.x. She said, “Some Nigerians are hypocrites. 

They act so righteous and condemn the things they do and desire. There are a lot of hypocrites when it comes to s.e.x and the messages I get is proof of that.

 We are quick to hail the likes of Cardi B and Beyoncé whenever they bikini or other skimpy clothing, but if Nigerian celebs to the same thing, they would be abused.”

Pastor slammed for telling women to 'lose weight' in sexist SERMON that hailed Melania Trump as 'the epic trophy wife'

A Baptist pastor has come under fire after delivering a 'sexist' sermon urging married women to practice 'weight control' and look less 'butch' to keep their husbands' attention — though he admitted that not everyone can be an 'epic trophy wife' like Melania Trump. 

Stewart-Allen Clark, 55, a preacher at the First General Baptist Church in Malden, Missouri, delivered his damning speech on Sunday, February 21, holding what appeared to be a Bible as he targeted the female members of the congregation.  

The Friendly Atheist was the first to report on the now-viral video of Clark's controversial sermon claiming each man needs 'an attractive wife' — prompting wide-spread outrage over his 'misogynistic' and 'offensive' message.

At the start of the clip, he pulled up a popular meme on the screen behind him that shows a man checking out another woman.  

'Ladies, here’s the thing you need to know about men: Don’t give him a reason to be like this "distracted boyfriend." You hear me? Don't give him a reason to be looking around,' he said, asking: 'Why is it so many times that women after they get married let themselves go?'

Clark went on to say that women don't have to be the epitome of beauty, but they should try harder to look attractive. 

'Now, look, I’m not saying every woman can be the epic, the epic trophy wife of all time, like Melania Trump — I’m not saying that at all,' he continued. 'Most women can't be trophy wives... but maybe a participation trophy. 

'I don't know, but all I can say is not everybody looks like that! Amen! But you don’t need to look like a butch, either!'

Clark - who, according to a Facebook user who said they knew him, is 'married to a beautiful woman with three beautiful children' - admitted that he no longer provides counseling to couples before sharing the first piece of advice he'd give to married women. 

'If you were sitting in my office, here's the first thing I'd say to you, and boy I'd hate to say it — this is why I don't do marital counseling anymore — and that is "weight control,"' he said. 

'So how important is this? Let me tell you something, I have a friend. He has put a "divorce weight" on his wife — that's how important this is.

''You know makeup? Makeup is a good thing!' he continued. 'My little boy said, "Why do girls wear makeup and perfume?" Because they're ugly and they stink. You don't want to be ugly and stink.'

Clark also sprinkled in a misogynistic joke at the end, saying: 'Scientists have discovered, by the way, a food that diminishes a woman's sex drive: It's called wedding cake.' 

First General Baptist Church has since shuttered its social media accounts and removed past content, including contact details and clips of Clark's previous sermons, according to the New York Post. 

But the video shared by the Friendly Atheist is still posted on YouTube, where it has been viewed more than 22,000 times. 

Critics took to the comments to slam the pastor and mock his appearance, with many noting that he needs to heed his own advice if he's so concerned about looks. 

'This is so inappropriate on so many levels. Imagine telling sexist and misogynist jokes as a PASTOR in front of a CONGREGATION. Not very Christian like is it????' one person wrote. 

Another replied: 'Given how the Pastor isn't exactly God's gift to the human race in the looks department, he has a goddam nerve to pronounce on others.' 

'Disgusting, this man should be removed from his congregation. His fat shaming stand-up routine has no place in the house of God or in society.' someone else commented. 

Apparently, Clark's insulting sermon wasn't a one-off. Before the videos of him were removed, an unverified clip featuring the pastor's alleged Mother's Day 2019 sermon was shared on Facebook. 

Clark claimed in the speech that all women want to be beautiful, adding: 'I wouldn't want to just be beautiful. I'd want to be hot.'

Following backlash over the pastor's sermon from February 21, General Baptist Ministries — First General Baptist's national organization — issued a statement on Facebook saying Clark's speech 'included comments that are not consistent with the positions and values of General Baptists.'

Nigerian Michael Nzube dies in India while in police custody

A 33 year-old Nigerian Michael Nzube has died in India in a hospital, while under police custody.

He died on Saturday, while undergoing treatment at a private hospital.

Anjuna police in Goa, have registered an unnatural death case against the Nigerian. The Navhind Times reported that the Police suspected drug overdose as the cause of death.

Anjuna police informed that on Thursday early morning at Arpora, a taxi driver stopped his vehicle for help near a restaurant as the Nigerian who was in the car started behaving aggressively.

The restaurant staff informed the Anjuna police about it and on seeing police, the Nigerian turned violent and assaulted the owner of the restaurant and one of the staff and also damaged a taxi.

Later the police with the help of staff of the restaurant managed to take control of Nzube and got him shifted to a private hospital.

Police said that the taxi driver said that the Nigerian might have consumed drugs, causing his violence.

Meanwhile, Sandesh Pilankar, 33, a resident of Arpora has lodged a complaint against Nzube for assaulting, abusing and threatening him and his staff and damaging taxi.

In this connection, an offence under sections 326, 504, 506(ii), 427 of Indian Penal Code has been registered.

The private hospital informed the police about the death of Nzube and suspected cause of death to be overdose.

Police sources informed that the deceased had been arrested by Calangute police in 2019 for illegal possession of drugs and was recently released from judicial custody. Anjuna police is further investigating the case.

COVID-19 vaccine has mild side effect – FG

The Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, has pointed out that the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine has a mild side effect.

Ehanire explained that those vaccinated may experience “small pain” in the area it was injected.

He disclosed this after the vaccination of President Muhammadu Buhari and his Vice, Yemi Osinbajo at the State House, yesterday.

Ehanire, however, stated that the administration of the COVID-19 vaccine is expected to be painless.

He said: “The process itself is simple. We are using a narrow gauge syringe, which will be very painless and it is a small quantity that is injected into the muscle of your upper arm.

“The after effects, as we know so far, are mild. There can be a small pain in the area where it was injected.”

Obaseki reunites with Oshiomhole, says no grudge against ex-APC chair

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, at the weekend maintained that he has no personal grudges against his predecessor and former Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, but only dislikes his style of politics.

Obaseki disclosed this to journalists in Auchi, Etsako-West Local Government Area of the state, at the Centenary Birthday Thanksgiving of Msgr. Thomas Oleghe and 18th Canonical Erection Anniversary of the Diocese of Auchi held at Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Auchi.

Obaseki, who exchanged greetings with an elbow-bump in compliance with COVID-19 preventive protocols with his predecessor, said they are both sons of Edo with interest of the state at heart.

The governor said: “I don’t have anything personal against Oshiomhole. I may not like his politics, but he has not done anything personal against me. We all are interacting with the interest of the country and the development of our community at heart.”

Why I slapped Fathia Balogun publicly - Actress Remi Surutu breaks silence

A few weeks ago, London-based celebrity, Bamidele Omosehin hosted a burial ceremony in Lagos. It was an event that recorded the presence of many celebrities, especially the A-list actors in the Nollywood industry.

At that party a misunderstanding broke out between 2 popular actresses, veteran actress, Remi Oshodi popularly known as Remi Surutu who was seated on a side of the hall and  Faithia Balogun; Before many knew what was happening Remi Surutu walked up to Fathia’s table to confront her. 

There are different versions of the story. Some accused Remi Surutu of slapping Fathia. Others say she was held back just before she could slap her. It became a mini pandemonium until concerned guests waded in to separate them and frayed nerves calmed.

When the news of the rift eventually broke out online, there were insinuations on what might have transpired before it was blown out of control. It was generally believed that actress Faithia Balogun must have offended the veteran actress at a point before the rift was blown open.

Until now, many people were still on the side of actress, Remi Surutu, especially her fans, because they believe; even though veteran actress Remi is a strict person, and one of the celebrities who does not take nonsense from anybody; movie or reality, yet, hardly will you hear any scandal of her, with the numbers of years she has spent in the industry. She is one hardworking woman and she has never soiled her reputation in any way. Remi Surutu is undoubtedly admired by many people because of her relevance over the years in the industry.

There were lots of assumption from different bloggers online, on what might have led to the fight. An insider revealed Remi Surutu has been having grudges with Faithia Balogun because of her “disrespectful” act and she has vowed to teach her some lessons. Other rumor mongers added that Faithia Balogun has been romantically linked with the London based celebrant whom Remi regards, as her younger brother. Some even said actress Iyabo Ojo must have fed Remi Surutu with many of Faithia Balogun’s alleged escapades, as the two are not also in good terms.

Though, every attempt to speak with these actresses proved abortive, as none of them was ready to talk on that matter, until recently when one of our correspondents stumbled upon actress Remi Surutu at a movie location in Abule Egba, and she briefly revealed why she slapped Faithia Balogun and why she doesn’t have any regret attacking her. “My fight with Fathia Williams started when I began hearing all manner of jargons, she was saying about me. I heard she’s been going about running me down in the presence of many of our colleagues and movie producers. She’s messing up big time and somebody needed to put her in a place where she belongs.

“This is the person I took in like a sister. We were very close when she joined the industry. I can say it boldly that I was instrumental to her relationship with Saidi Balogun then. They were both living with me in Magodo. I had to send them out because they always fight, and they almost injured my mum.

“I don’t know why she suddenly grow that hatred for me and started running me down. Till date, I still can not say what I’ve done to deserve that from her. There are so many other things she did that I can’t say here.”

“Faithia is so full of herself, probably because they used to deceive her, by calling her the Queen of all the Actresses, “Pelu awon tani”. I decided to confront her and deal with her at that event, because somebody needed to call her to order. And God saved her that day and thank God for the intervention of other colleagues around. I told her “if you move closer to me, I will break bottle on your head” When people started calling us to settle it amicably, I told them I am not ready to settle anything with her, and I don’t feel remorseful for attacking her. I have no regret at all, she’s really messing up and she needed to be put in her place”.

Femi Fani Kayode FIRES back at ex-wife, calls her adulteress

Femi Fani-Kayode, former Aviation Minister, has debunked claims made by his estranged wife, Precious Chikwendu, that he physically assaulted her while she was pregnant.

Fani-Kayode also alleged that Chikwendu was an adulterer who tried to seduce his friends while he was in detention.

The ex-beauty queen had accused her ex-husband of beating her up several times including when she was pregnant.

Chikwendu further accused Fani-Kayode of confining her to a hospital when she attempted to escape.

She subsequently demanded full custody of their four sons.

The former beauty queen made the allegations in an affidavit she deposed to in support of an originating motion brought pursuant to Section 69 of the Child’s Rights Act, 2003.

Fani-Kayode in a statement by his Media Consultant, Oladimeji Olaiya, described all the allegations as “lies and falsehood”.

The statement was titled, ‘Press statement on the vile and baseless allegations of Precious Chikwendu against Chief Femi Fani-Kayode’.

It partly reads, “The statement of claim and affidavit that was filed in court by one Precious Chikwendu against Chief Femi Fani-Kayode is filled with lies and falsehood.

“Not one thing that she has alleged there is true. She is a pathological liar and a slanderer and we intend to prove this in court.

“We believe that the children’s lives would be in danger if they are with her and we shall prove this in court.

“Neither is it true that she was ever beaten by Chief Fani-Kayode or anyone else in his staff and security team, either when she was pregnant or not pregnant and it is not true that she was subjected to any form of physical or mental abuse from them.”

The statement also noted that Chikwendu walked out of the marriage despite pleas and entreaties.

“She walked out on her own saying she was hearing voices even when the entire household was begging her to stay and she abandoned her husband and four young children to meet other men outside.

“After she finished having her fun, Chief Fani-Kayode refused to let her back into his and resolved to keep her out of his life. This is the best decision he has made in the last 7 years.”

Fani-Kayode also accused Chikwendu of adultery, saying, “Chikwendu’s only pastime was to post pictures and words on Instagram and sleep with men outside.

“She also tried to seduce a number of Chief Fani-Kayode’s friends when he was in detention and extort money from them.”

Though Chikwendu demanded the full custody of her four sons, Fani-Kayode said the children’s lives would be endangered if left in her care.

“On one occasion she beat her first son so badly that his face swelled up like a football and he had to be rushed to the hospital where she admitted to her offence to the doctor. We have pictures of his damaged and badly swollen face.

“His crime was that he had called one of his 3 nannies “mummy” and this angered Chikwendu who then flew into an uncontrollable rage and punched him in the face in front of 7 nannies.

“On a separate occassion in front of three Pastors she also beat one of the triplets mercilessly simply because he had dared to cry during prayers. Again we have evidence of this and the Pastors and nannies will testify,” the statement added.

“We urge members of the public to wait until the truth is revealed about Chikwendu, her mental and physical abuse of her own children, her mental illness, her numerous attempts to murder Chief Fani-Kayode and his four children, her adulterous ways, her unfathomable cruelty, her gold-digging ways, her violence and so much more before they make up their minds,” it concluded.

Man dies after his face is ripped off by seven pit bulls while he was on his morning walk

A man was attacked and his face was ripped off by seven pit bulls while he was on his morning walk.

Aglacir de Macedo Pereira, 46, was ambushed by the dogs in Lageado Feio, a rural area of southern Brazil on February 2.

He was enjoying his morning walk he takes regularly when the savage dogs escaped from a farm underneath a gate.

Brave passersby rescued him from the gruesome attack and called an ambulance.

They then helped him down the road to meet the emergency vehicle.

Pereira was rushed to Santa Cruz Hospital in central Pinhao, more than 20 miles away.

Pereira died after the attack, which saw his face ripped off by the dogs

The pit bulls had bitten off all of the skin on his face and left his skull completely exposed.

After arriving at the hospital he tragically died due to his injuries.

Pereira's distraught aunt told local media, "He was like a son. I raised him since he was two years old."

His family have accused the dogs' owner of failing to keep the animals penned up properly.

"We ask people who have these animals to take care. We do not want other people to go through a situation as sad as the one we are going through," Pereira's aunt continued.

The owner of the dogs has not yet been identified.

Police are investigating the attack and may press charges against the owner.

Bandits breach Kaduna Airport, kidnap 9 at FAAN quarters

Scores of gunmen, wielding AK 47s and RPGs, breached the Kaduna Airport early today, storming through the runway 05, to attack the residential quarters of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria(FAAN).

According to a report, the bandits succeeded in abducting nine persons, including a family of six and a housewife with her two children, living in the quarters.

They would have taken more captives, but for alert soldiers from the barracks nearby, who heard the sporadic gunshots being fired by the bandits.

The soldiers mobilised to engage them, in an incident said to have happened at some minutes after midnight.

But for the intervention of the military, the bandits who were in large numbers wanted to kidnap the entire residents of the quarters, a FAAN engineer told The Nation.

“Initially when I started hearing gunshots, I was not even bothered, because I thought whoever came here to rob or do anything has made a mistake of his life because we have a military barrack at the airport.

“But, I later became restless when after like 30 minutes, bullets were still raining.

‘’Along the line, the soldiers came in and engaged the bandits in a serious gun battle.

“But the soldiers could only prevent them from picking more people because the bandits came with two RPG alongside their many AK47 rifles.

COVID-19 vaccination certificate to become compulsory for travel – FG

The Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha, has said that the COVID-19 vaccination certificate, will soon become a compulsory requirement to travel anywhere in the world.

Mustapha, who is also the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, stated this on Saturday at the New Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

He spoke shortly after President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, were vaccinated against COVID-19.

“Today, Mr President and the Vice-President have equally demonstrated leadership by offering themselves for the Nigerian people to believe in the safety and the efficacy of the vaccines that we have procured and is being deployed.

“Vaccine hesitancy will have to give way to reality because the truth about it is that very soon, nobody will be able to travel the world unless you produce the certificate that you have been given. I have not confirmed this but reliably, some countries have started putting restrictions for receiving visitors, even for exercising activities of their faith, without a COVID-19 vaccination certificate.

“The word that is going out there on behalf of Mr President is that Nigerians should make themselves available, those that are eligible in the first phase of the deployment, because the deployment is going to be in four phases, to receive these vaccines.

“They (vaccines) have been tested, our most strategic leadership have received these vaccines this morning. They are safe, they are efficacious and it is for the good and wellbeing of our people,” Mustapha said

Doyin Okupe turns bornagain after leaving Government, says Nigeria has a divine destiny

It won't be a fallacy to say Dr Doyin Okupe, a former aide to past President Goodluck Jonathan is now a bornagain. I mean we saw it even when his son came out as gay.

The politician had said his son was under ''attack'' and had promised Nigerians he would be taking the matter to God.

Today, Doyin is not happy with the way many have given up on Nigeria and made it known that Nigeria has her own destiny. He also prayed for the country saying God's glory will shine again.

Below are Okupe's tweets giving Nigerians the hope of believing in the country again.

Body-shamers ‘really broke me’ during pregnancy - Kim Kardashian

Kim Kardashian on Friday called out those who bully and body- shame others, recalling her embarrassment when she was attacked for gaining 60 pounds during her first pregnancy.

In an Instagram stories posting, Kardashian detailed how she had been compared to a killer whale during the later stages of her pregnancy in 2013, and how her figure was contrasted unfavourably to Prince William’s wife Kate, who was also pregnant at the time.

“I cried every single day over what was happening to my body, mainly from the pressures of being constantly compared to what society considered a healthy person should look like.

“As well as being compared to Shamu the Whale by the media,” she wrote, referring to the mammal that used to perform at SeaWorld.

“I was shamed on a weekly basis with cover stories that made my insecurities so painful I couldn’t leave the house for months after. It really broke me,” said Kardashian, who rose to fame through her family’s reality TV show “Keeping Up with the Kardashians”.

The cosmetics businesswoman and social media star said she was reminded of those months while watching a recent documentary about Britney Spears, tracing the meteoric rise of the pop star and the media coverage of her mental health breakdown in 2007.

Kardashian, 40, said the documentary made her empathise with Spears. She said the media “can be very traumatising and it can really break even the strongest person.

“No-one deserves to be treated with such cruelty or judgment for entertainment,” Kardashian told her 208 million Instagram followers.

Kardashain gave birth to her daughter North in June 2013. She went on to have a son, Saint, in 2015 and later had two children by a surrogate because of health complications.

Kardashian last month filed for divorce from the rapper Kanye West, her husband of almost seven years.
