Petrol hits N212 per litre days after NNPC denied price hike

Eleven days after the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) promised there would be no price hike for Premium Motor Spirit, popularly known as petrol in March, the price has hit N212 litre.

On February 28, NNPC spokesman, Kennie Obateru, gave the assurance in a statement, in reaction to the long queues in some states.

“Contrary to speculations of an imminent increase in the price of PMS in the country, the NNPC has ruled out any increment in the ex-depot price of petrol in March”, he noted.

But on Thursday night, the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) released the latest guiding retail price.

In a template published on its website, the agency explained that the increment was due to the market determinants and importation costs.

PPPRA fixed the lower band of the new fuel price at N209.61 per litre and upper band at N212.61 per litre.

The price was calculated on the approved average importer & exporter (I&E) Naira exchange rate per dollar of N403.80. The crude oil price at the international market is currently $70/barrel.

PPPRA said the average price per ton of the commodity is about $561.96, or N169.22 per litre, while the average freight rate cost $21.63 per ton, or N6.51 per litre. The ex-coastal price is N175.73 per litre.

For component charges, the average littering expenses cost N4.81 per litre; Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) charge N2.49 per litre; NIMASA charge N0.23 per litre.

Jetty Through Put charge is N1.61 per litre; Storage charge is N2.58 per litre, and average finance is N2.17 per litre, translating to an expected landing cost per litre of N189.61.

There is the wholesale margin of N4.03 per litre; administration charge of N1.23 per litre; transporters’ allowance (NTA) of N3.89 per litre; Bridging Fund cost of N7.51 per litre and Marine transport average (MTA) of N0.15 per litre.

The expected ex-depot price for wholesale products marketers now stands at N206.42 per litre. The addition of retailers’ margin of N6.19 per litre would bring the expected retail price (lower band) N209.61 per litre and expected retail price (upper band) N212.61 per litre.

Leah Sharibu’s parents write President Buhari

Parents of Leah Sharibu have appealed to President Buhari to use the same negotiators and strategies used to secure the release of other schoolchildren to rescue her.

Leah Sharibu was one of the 110 female students of the Government Girls’ Science and Technical College, Dapchi, Yobe State, who were abducted on February 19, 2018, by Boko Haram.

While others were released, Leah was not freed because she refused to denounce her faith as a Christian.

Leah’s parents in an open letter to President Buhari appealed to him to keep his promise.

The letter, which was released by Dr Gloria Puldu, Executive Director LEAH FOUNDATION, reads:

“Sir, With deep pains in our hearts but gratitude to God Almighty who commands us to be grateful in every situation, we write this open letter to you concerning our daughter, Leah Sharibu who as you well know is still in captivity in the hands of Boko Haram.

February 19th 2021 marked three years that she was abducted alongside her secondary school mates whom you were able to secure their release on March 21st 2018 barely one month after their abduction. We join Nigerians especially the parents of all recently abducted students to commend you for your prompt rescue of these students.

We, therefore, want to plead with you to please use the same negotiators, strategies and means used to secure their release to do so for our daughter, Leah. The Kankara boys in Katsina State regained their freedom six days after their abduction in December 2020.

The Kagara Schoolboys alongside other passengers in Niger State regained their freedom after a week of their abduction, while the 317 from Government Girls Science Secondary School in Jangebe town in Zamfara State were released on March 3 2021, less than a week of their abduction.

Mr President, you have promised me on the phone that my daughter will soon be released because negotiations are going on and not long, Leah will be returned home. But it has been over two years since you made that promise and Leah is now three years in captivity.

Sir, we plead with you to put yourself in our position and assume that Leah is your daughter. How would you feel knowing that she is in captivity just because she was courageous to refuse to renounce her faith?

While others were released by the terrorists following negotiations, Leah, then 14 years, is still being held captive because she refused to renounce her Christian faith. Leah is denied her freedom for three years just for that reason. Now that you are able to find a solution to rescue those in captivity, we believe that you should be able to bring Leah and others in captivity home if you choose to do so. The whole world and indeed, the international community are waiting for you to fulfil that promise Sir.”

How Singaporean woman was allegedly scammed into marriage, abused by her Nigerian ex-husband

A Singaporean woman, Lynn Shia Soo Me, has narrated how she was scammed into marriage by a Nigerian man and allegedly subjected to physical, mental, and financial abuse for over 11 years.

Lynn said her Nigerian ex-husband who she identified as Michael Moses asked her to leave their son, Abraham with him in the United States and return to Singapore to work and earn money.

According to her, she returned to Singapore as he had demanded. She said initially, she was able to see her now 5-year-old son and spoke to him on the phone and video calls but since October 2019, she has not been able to see him as her ex cut off all communication with her.

In her new book, Ms Lynnocent, she tells the entire story from how she met the Nigerian, moved with him to the United States, had a divorce, and finally how she was pushed back to Singapore to earn money for her ex-husband as a criterion for seeing her son.

In an interview with TheIndependentSingapore, Lynn cried as she recalled how the Nigerian man took her to Kuala Lumpur.

She divorced her first husband and left her three daughters after meeting Michael in 2008 when she was 41. She said she did not realise he wanted to marry her to settle down in Singapore.

Unable to get a Singapore visa, the man took her to Kuala Lumpur in January 2009. A couple of months later, he took her to Nigeria where they spent a week and registered their marriage.

She said, "Michael planned on registering our marriage in Nigeria. He bought tickets to Nigeria. And there, we got married. While in Nigeria, he never introduced his parents or friends. In fact, we never met any of them. It was just the two of us. We stayed in a hotel. What do we do next?”, I asked him with excitement. I was joyous that we were finally married," Lynn narrated.

"We go back to Singapore and apply for a long-term visa, he answered.”

They returned to Singapore and soon after, she got pregnant. Unsuccessful in his bid to settle down in Singapore, he wanted a new life in America.

Before going to the US, she visited her parents’ house in Singapore. But they did not allow her to give birth in their home when they found out she was carrying his child.

Michael went to America in May 2015 and Lynn joined him there in August 2015. They stayed in Dallas in Texas. She said there she found out that he had even lied to her about his age and that he was planning to divorce her to marry another woman.

"I am not four years younger than you, Lynn. I am actually fourteen years younger," he told her.

Eventually, Michael divorced Lynn in October 2015 and married a US citizen called Beula. But he told Lynn his new marriage was only temporary. Lynn gave birth to her son Adrian on December 1, 2015.

Distanced from her family and estranged, Lynn had no other choice but to stay with Michael in the United States, with their son. She alleged he would often abuse her physically.

"Worse, he would r3pe me in front of Abraham. I wasn’t spared even during my periods. To let a child see such horrendous acts, was unforgivable," she recalled.

"Abraham, without a clue, would stay beside and wipe my tears, while Michael continued to ravish me. I had no clue as to why a man who said he loved me turned so cruel."

Lynn claimed that on October 29, 2019, Michael forced her to pack up and return to Singapore, and told her to earn money for him and their son. Lynn said that she was told if she did not set up a “fund” for him, she would never see her son again. Her son Adrian was three years old when she left him behind in America.

After returning to Singapore, she started working in the healthcare industry. She had never worked before other than a few months before her first marriage, some 28 years ago. Initially, she was able to see her son and speak to him on the phone and on video calls. However, a few months later, all contact allegedly ceased and she has not been able to see her son again. She did not send him any money, suspecting he was scamming her.

Now she is 54. Michael, who is 14 years younger than her, is 40 and Adrian, five years old. Still pining for her son, Lynn has not given up hope.

Her book, Ms Lynnocent, is her attempt at raising funds to return to the United States and get her son back.

Lynn has also started on an online petition to help reunite with her son.

In the petition, Lynn said she can only reveal his identity and SSN once authorities are convinced and when they contact her.

"Every day is a plight for me now. Every night I cry. I want my son. He is not giving. Hence, I am making this request. He doesn't even allow me to see my son even in video. He went and wrongfully added him as a custodial parent by making the authorities to believe that I ran away to Singapore. The fact is he asked me to go to Singapore with a cheating plan. I beg, cry, lament and plead...Please help me to get back to my son by signing this petition." she wrote.

Church treasurer accused of stealing $150,000 to fuel his p.o.r.n addiction

A Pennsylvania church treasurer is accused of stealing over $150,000 from the house of worship to fuel his addiction to p3rn, according to reports.

Glenn Yothers, 56, allegedly stole the funds from Saint Paul Lutheran Church in Unity Township, claiming the money was going toward church bills and charity, WPXI reported, citing police.

But Yothers is accused of using the cash for p3rnographic websites over a four-year period ending in 2019, leaving the church on the brink of shutdown, according to court documents obtained by triblive.com.

“One of the red flags that popped up were the bills stopped being paid at the church,” said Trooper Steve Limani, according to reports.

“None of this was going to charity at all. It’s going to his own personal enjoyment and his own personal use,” Limani said.

Yothers told police he got addicted to the s3x sites.

He was charged this week with theft by deception and theft by unlawful.

Messi and Ronaldo BOTH miss out on Champions League quarter-finals for first time in 16 years

For the first time in 16 years, neither Cristiano Ronaldo nor Lionel Messi will play a part in the quarter-finals of the Champions League after both were knocked out of the tournament at the last-16 stage.

Ronaldo’s Juventus were eliminated in extra-time by ten-man Porto in a thrilling tie on Tuesday evening.

And 24 hours later, old adversary Messi followed suit as his Barcelona side failed in their bid for an unlikely comeback against PSG, going down 5-2 on aggregate, with the Argentine scoring a screamer and missing a penalty in the 1-1 second-leg draw in Paris.

The last time neither Ronaldo nor Messi were involved in the last-eight was in 2004/05, when Ronaldo and Manchester United were knocked out by eventual finalists AC Milan in the last-16, while Barcelona crashed out against Chelsea at the same stage.

Since then, the pair have won Europe’s biggest club prize on nine occasions between them and have pulled well clear as the two most prolific goalscorers in the competition’s history.
