Arewa youths give Yoruba indigenes 72 hours to leave Northern region over Sunday Ighoho's statement

A northern group, Arewa Youth Assembly, has given Yoruba activist, Sunday Igboho, 72 hours to move Yoruba people from the north.

Mohammed Salihu Danlami, Speaker, Arewa Youth Assembly, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.

"We are hereby giving him the ultimatum of 72 hours to move his people out or we will be forced to take necessary actions by personally taking the responsibility of getting his people back home," the statement quoted the group to have said.

The group noted that Nigeria's entity is non-negotiable and called on all stakeholders in the country to reject anything that would confuse the land.

The statement partly reads, "One Mr. Sunday Igboho issued a press statement in which he was quoted as saying enough is enough; that the time for Yoruba nation is now, that they will no longer accommodate and accept the presence of Northerners.

"The constitution of the country has made it crystal clear that any Nigerian can live in any part of the country, irrespective of his or her religious and tribal placements."

The group said that it still affirms its position as a law-abiding civil youth organisation, adding that it would not fold its arm and watch innocent Nigerians being threatened by individuals who have no regard and respect for the law.

Igboho had in a statement on Wednesday said the time had come for the actualisation of the Yoruba Nation.

He said that there is no basis for 'one Nigeria' as insecurity spreads to the southwest region, adding that the only solution is for the Yoruba nation to stand on its own.

"Starting from now, we don't want herdsmen in our land to disturb our farms again. If we meet any killer herdsmen, we are going to face and destroy them.

"If any police attack us for that, we are ready for them. We don't want Nigeria again, but Yoruba nation. There is no essence for one Nigeria when major resources in the country are in the hands of the northerners.

"Enough is enough, no going back… we are not scared of anybody; these killer herders are taking over our land and they are killing us," he added.

Putin invites Biden to virtual talks after ‘killer’ comment

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday called on US President Joe Biden to hold virtual talks after the American leader described him as a “killer”.

Speaking on the sidelines of an event marking seven years since Russia’s annexation of Crimea, Putin invited Biden to hold a “live-broadcast” or “online” discussion in the coming days.

“I want to invite President Biden to continue our discussion, but on condition that we will do this practically live-broadcast, as they say, online,” Putin said in televised remarks, suggesting the conversation take place on Friday or Monday.

He said it would be an “open direct discussion” that would be “interesting” for the people of Russia and the US.

In an interview with ABC News on Wednesday, when asked if he thought Putin, who has been accused of ordering the poisoning of opposition figure Alexei Navalny, is “a killer”, Biden said: “I do.”

The US president’s remarks sparked the biggest crisis in bilateral relations in years, and later Wednesday Russia ordered its Washington ambassador back to Moscow for urgent consultations in an unprecedented move in recent diplomatic history.

Earlier on Thursday, Putin mocked the US leader’s remarks, saying “it takes one to know one” and wished 78-year-old Biden good health.

Kogi left out as NPHCDA delivers Covid-19 vaccine to 35 states

The Executive Director, National Primary Health Care Development Agency, Faisal Shuaib, on Thursday told members of the National Economic Council that the Oxford-Astrazeneca vaccine has been delivered to 35 out of the 36 states of the federation as well as the Federal Capital Territory.

He identified Kogi as the only state left out in the arrangement so far.

The Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande, in a statement said the NPHCDA gave the update while briefing a virtual meeting of NEC presided over by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo.

The council chaired by sitting Vice Presidents has all state governors, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and some relevant ministers as members.

Akande’s statement was titled “FG agency to NEC: Covid-19 vaccine delivered to 35 states, FCT.”

He quoted Shuaib as saying that Kogi has not received the vaccine due to the issue of cold-chain store and the disposition of the state government.

The statement quoted the NPHCDA boss as saying “all states, except Kogi, have received their vaccines.

“Kogi State is yet to receive due to the non-repair of its Cold-Chain Store coupled with the state’s concerns around the contradictory information about the vaccines.

“The vaccination application has been launched in most states’ Treatment Centres even against distractions and criticism of the FG’s efforts to ensure availability of vaccines in the nation.

“The roll-out of the vaccines across healthcare front-line workers and other health support staff was scheduled to commence by March 15, 2021, in some states, with the intention of wider coverage after the training of the states’ health workers across board.”

To ensure accountability in the distribution of the vaccine, Shuaib was also quoted as informing the council that “the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission had been co-opted to support the PTF on vaccine accountability to ensure the safekeeping of the vaccine

“There was a need for tight security around the vaccine in the states to avoid being vandalised by hoodlums.

“Meanwhile, there was a plan to commence weekly record of a dashboard showing level and efficacy of the inoculation by the end of Monday, March 15, 2021.”

Many of Fani-Kayode's staff speak up... beatings, life threatening instances mentioned

A cook, Emmanuel Oko, who once worked with a former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, says the ex-minister once chased him around the house with a knife because he was not happy with his cooking.

Oko, who worked for the ex-minister for six months, said his salary was N150,000 but Fani-Kayode was fond of deducting his salary.

He stated, “Chief Fani-Kayode is a paranoid soul that gets angry for no reason. There was a time he held a knife and was walking around the table and said ‘I will kill you now’, ‘I will send you to hell now’.

“I would be running around the kitchen while his police orderlies would be watching,” he said.

Oko said on one occasion, Fani-Kayode said he wanted to eat okro but there was none in the house.

The domestic servant said he used his own money to buy the okro and cooked it for him.

“I made okro soup and he was served. He then asked what it was and I said it was okro. He grabbed his fork and said, ‘this is for me?’ He stood up and faced me. I ran outside the kitchen and he chased me. It was the body guards that took me away,” Oko said.

Some other former domestic staff of Fani-Kayode levelled several allegations against him including s3xual harassment and assault.

About seven of the former domestic servants which include drivers, cooks and nannies, described Fani-Kayode as an erratic and cantankerous man who had the habit of using his bodyguards to assault them and give them corporeal punishment.

The domestic staff, who visited The PUNCH office recently, also deposed to affidavits.

Another domestic servant, Agbolo Edah, who is from Togo, said Fani-Kayode beat him up and tore his clothes because he was not satisfied with his cooking.

The cook said the working conditions at Fani-Kayode’s residence were horrible during the four months he worked there.

Edah in his affidavit stated that domestic servants were usually not allowed to leave the compound and were denied food.

The cook said, “I was assaulted at the slightest provocation while working for Chief Fani-Kayode. He would direct his guards to strip me n3ked and beat me up.

“One Bako, who is a body guard of Chief Fani-Kayode, is always tasked with strapping my hands and legs together while Chief Fani-Kayode would beat me up.

“I recall being pinned to the ground while Chief Fani-Kayode beat me up and kicked me continuously with his leg. I also witnessed Chief Fani-Kayode strip his staff completely n3ked on the allegation that they stole from him. He sometimes drags his staff to the police station where they were detained for days.”

A former driver, Jonathan Gaiya, who worked with Fani-Kayode for six months, said the first day he began working with the ex-minister, he witnessed Fani-Kayode asking his police orderly to arrest a barber for overcharging him.

Gaiya said in his affidavit that he was paid N70,000 by Fani-Kayode but was not given any food while staff were not allowed to leave the premises.

He said, “At different times I have been sacked, beaten, abused, assaulted whenever I was caught sneaking out to buy food.

“On one particular day, Chief Fani-Kayode attempted to hit me with his slippers because I slowed down to take a sharp turn (while driving). He accused me of planning to cause him harm and demanded that the police carry out an investigation on me.”

Gaiya alleged that anytime any of Fani-Kayode’s cars developed a fault, the ex-minister would deduct his salary and use the money to pay for repairs.

When contacted on the telephone, Fani-Kayode said he would not respond to the allegations.

FG takes over Ohakim’s prosecution for allegedly harassing mistress

The Federal Government has set in motion the machinery for the prosecution of a former governor of Imo State, Ikedi Ohakim, on criminal charges of threat to the life of his mistress, Chinyere Amuchienwa.

Already, the office of the Attorney General of the Federation had on Thursday told a Federal High Court in Abuja that it had taken over the case from the Inspector-General of Police to ensure diligent prosecution.

The court had earlier slated Thursday for the former governor to be arraigned, but when the matter was called, a counsel from the office of the AGF, Bagudu Sani, informed the Court that the office of the AGF had taken over the case by a letter dated March 17, 2021, which he said, had been served on the IGP.

Counsel for the police, Rufus Dimka, opposed to the taking over of the case by the office of AGF on the grounds that the charges preferred against the former governor was prepared by the office of the IGP, said to be the complainant in the case.

However, Justice Taiwo Taiwo told Sani from the office of the AGF that he had taken judicial notice of the letter but added that the counsel should file the letter formally before the court.

He deferred the arraignment of the former governor to May 6, 2021 to enable parties to file and serve written addresses on the property of the office of the AGF taking over the case from the Police.

Ohakim and one Chinedu Okpareke were dragged to the Federal High Court by the police over allegations of threatening and harassing Amuchienwa.

The former governor has been on police administrative bail since November 11 2020.

According to the charge number, FHC/ABJ/CS/287/2020, Ohakim and Okpareke were alleged to have threatened to release a nude photograph of Amuchienwa if she fails to drop charges of attempted kidnap against them.

The Police in the five counts dated November 25, 2020, alleged that Ohakim and Okpareke, knowingly and intentionally transmitted communication through a computer system to harass and bully Amuchienwa, an offence that is punishable under Section 24(1)(a) of the Cybercrime Act 2015.

Vanessa Bryant names cops who 'shared pic of Kobe and Gigi’s bodies after crash’

Vanessa Bryant has reportedly named the police officers accused of sharing images of the helicopter crash that left her husband Kobe, daughter and seven others dead.

LA Lakers icon Kobe, 41, and his 13-year-old daughter tragically died when the helicopter they were in crashed near Calabasas, California in January last year.

The crash also killed the other seven people who were on board the aircraft including pilot Ara Zobayan.

The Los Angeles County coroner's office recently said that all nine victims of the crash lost their lives to "blunt trauma", with the deaths certified as an "accident."

Claims emerged after the fatal crash that horrifying pictures had been taken and were shared by Sheriff deputies.

The images reportedly taken at the scene of the tragic crash were said to have been erased and the deputies involved were facing disciplinary action and investigation.

In an Instagram post on Wednesday Vanessa Bryant went on to name four Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies who allegedly took and shared the graphic photos.

The names were revealed in a posted image of legal documents that she had filed in the wake of the incident.

Kobe's widow Vanessa was left devastated when she found out that deputies had taken pictures of the crash, potentially including images of the remains of her beloved husband and daughter.

Reports emerged at the time that a deputy trainee allegedly showed photographs of the remains to a woman in a bar, but when the bartender overheard, he made an online complaint to the department.

Sheriff Vallanueva reportedly said it's not a crime for law enforcement officials to take photographs at the scene of an incident, but that it is against department policy. He issued an apology to the family.

In a damning report released last month the pilot's 'poor decision making' and flouting of flight rules was blamed as the likely cause of the crash.

The report by the National Transportation Safety Board [NTSB] said the pilot became disoriented and didn't follow rules for flying in cloudy weather.

It said the weather conditions were inconsistent with adverse weather training and resulted in the pilot's "spatial disorientation and loss of control."

The board also cited Zobayan's "likely self-induced pressure" to complete the flight.
