Man shares his encounter with a pregnant woman and her husband's actions

Trump ‘attacks’ Biden over ‘bad decision’

Former President, Donald Trump has condemned the policy of his successor, Joe Biden on the controversial wall at the Mexican border.

In an interview aired on Fox News Saturday night, Trump described Biden’s reversal of the “Remain in Mexico” policy as a “very bad decision”.

Also known as the Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP), the programme initiated in 2019 turned back certain individuals from Mexico pursuant to Section 235(b)(2)(C) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA).

Trump told Judge Jeanine Pirro via telephone that a lot of people wanted him to visit the border and that he would be there in the coming weeks.

“Thousands and thousands of people are coming up right now as we speak. And you’re going to have millions of people pouring into our country. And it’s going to destroy our country.

“I don’t know what they are doing and they don’t know what they are doing. It’s a very very dangerous situation. I’d love to be involved, somebody else is suppose to be doing it.

“The border patrol wants me to go over the next couple of weeks. I don’t think there’s a rush for me to go. He (Biden) is supposed to go and make the decision.

“Not only people, drugs are coming in, in a number that we’ve never seen before now. We stopped it largely. The wall was just a few weeks from being completed. He didn’t want to complete it.”

Trump recalled that it took two and half years before the wall construction commenced. He pointedly blamed the Democrats in Congress.

“Pelosi and everyone sued us 11 different times. So after we won, we started. They should finish the wall and have the Stay in Policy reinserted because if you don’t have that, this is going to be a disaster.”

In his first news conference on Thursday, President Biden announced that some families are not going back because Mexico is refusing to take them.

The American leader confirmed his administration was in negotiations with President Andrés López Obrador. “That’s going to change. They should all be going back,” he added.

2 suicide bombers strike in Catholic church on Palm Sunday

Fourteen people were wounded on Sunday when two suicide bombers blew themselves up outside a Catholic church in the Indonesian city of Makassar.

The attack at Sacred Heart Cathedral came on Palm Sunday, the first day of the Easter Holy Week.

According to the police, the congregation had been inside the church on the island of Sulawesi at the time of the explosion.

The bombers struck just as the mass was ending. Local police had previously said the bombers had acted alone.

National police spokesman Argo Yuwono said authorities were looking into which radical networks the bombers came from.

They were also probing whether the attack was linked to recent arrests of suspected militants.

In January, a counter-terrorism unit raided a militant hideout in Makassar and killed two men suspected by police of involvement in twin bombings at a Philippine church in 2019 that killed more than 20 people.

Father Wilhemus Tulak, a priest at the church, told Indonesian media that a suspected bomber tried to enter the church grounds on a motorbike, but had been stopped by a security guard.

Security camera footage showed a blast that blew flame, smoke and debris into the middle of the road.

Police did not say who might be responsible for the attack and there was no immediate claim of responsibility.

Police blamed the Islamic State-inspired Jamaah Ansharut Daulah group for suicide attacks in 2018 on churches and a police post in the city of Surabaya that killed over 30 people.

Boy Rafli Amar, the head of the country’s National Counterterrorism Agency, described Sunday’s attack as an act of terrorism.

Makassar Mayor Danny Pomanto said the blast could have caused far more casualties if it had taken place at the church’s main gate instead of a side entrance.

Makassar, Sulawesi’s biggest city, reflects the religious makeup of Indonesia, the world’s largest Muslim-majority country with a substantial Christian minority and followers of other religions.

“Whatever the motive is, this act isn’t justified by any religion because it harms not just one person but others, too,” Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, Indonesia’s religious affairs minister, said in a statement.

Gomar Gultom, head of the Indonesian Council of Churches, described the attack as a “cruel incident” as Christians were celebrating Palm Sunday, and urged people to remain calm and trust the authorities.

Indonesia’s deadliest Islamist militant attack took place on the tourist island of Bali in 2002, when bombers killed 202 people, most of them foreign tourists.

In subsequent years, security forces in Indonesia scored some major successes in tackling militancy.

But more recently there has been a resurgence of militant violence.

Bandits place N50million ransom on kidnapped RCCG members

Members of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Kaduna kidnapped by bandits on their way to Kafanchan from Kaduna have been placed on a N50million ransom.

A senior Pastor of the Church who confirmed the contact and the amount, explained that the eight members were kidnapped from the church bus at about 6:00 p.m while on their way for a church assignment.

The RCCG cleric, who is a Special Assistant to the General Overseer assured, “It’s true. It happened around 6:00 p.m. They are asking for N50 million.”

He said that the abducted persons were adult missionaries, male and female, from Kaduna Province 1 going to Kafanchan for prayer work.

Recall that an engineer, Mr Eje Kenny Faraday, said “he narrowly escaped being a victim,” had broken the news on his Facebook wall with the photograph of the empty bus around 7.00 p.m. on Friday.

He posted on his Facebook wall, “All passengers in the bus are just kidnapped along Kachia Road, Kilometre 63 from Kaduna.”

The inscription on the side of the bus reads, “The Redeemed Christian Church of God, Region 30, Trinity Sanctuary, Kaduna.”

Police brutality: N200m awarded to 2 Nigerians killed over 24 chickens

A Federal High Court in Bauchi has awarded an unprecedented compensation of N200 million to two Nigerian victims of police brutality.

They were killed by the police, while in detention, over chickens,

The landmark judgement in favour of the deceased Nigerians was delivered today.

A third victim of the police torture was awarded N10million.

Justice Hassan Dikko, who gave the ruling said his court was convinced that two of the victims, Ibrahim Babangida and Ibrahim Sama’Ila – were tortured to death by the police.

They were accused of stealing 24 chickens belonging to a retired police officer.

Their families would collect the N200m compensation at N100million each.

The surviving victim, 30-year-old Abdulwahab Bello, was awarded the N10 million for the brutality, senseless arrest, and torture he suffered.

The men were arrested on 21 July, 2020 following an allegation of chicken theft against them.

According to their lawyer, Dr. Mukhtar Abubakar Usman, Bello and his late friends were detained at the Township Division “A” Police Station in Bauchi.

Bello told the court how Superintendent Baba Ali, who was the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) at the time, used a pestle to torture him and his two friends who died as a result of the brutality.

“He hit Ibrahim continuously until his last breath,” the visibly moody survivour, who now limps, said.

The action of the police was condemned by Bello and the families of his late friends who filed a suit at the Federal High Court in Bauchi.

Joined as respondents were Ali, one Sergeant Jibrin Mohammed, the Commissioner of Police in Bauchi, the Inspector General of Police, and the Police Service Commission.

Five months after the suit was filed, Justice Dikko agreed with the submission of their counsel that Babangida and Samaila were extra-judicially killed.

According to the judge, the action of the police amounted to the infringement of the victims’ fundamental human right to dignity.

“Justice has been served and I am happy but for the children who lost their lives, I pray for the repose of their souls,” said Babangida Ibrahim, the father of one of the late victims, according to a report by Channels TV.

The mother of the other victim, Hajara Ismai’l, also said she had lost hope of getting justice and thanked the court for the judgement.

Biden invites Buhari, 39 other World leaders for Climate Change summit

U.S. President Joe Biden has invited President Muhammadu Buhari and 39 other world leaders to a virtual summit to galvanise efforts in tackling the climate crisis.

The two-day summit is expected to mark America’s return to the frontlines of the fight against human-caused climate change, after former President Trump disengaged from the process.

The White House said the summit is scheduled for April 22-23. It hopes that the meeting will help shape, speed up and deepen global efforts to cut climate-wrecking fossil fuel pollution.

“The summit will also highlight examples of how enhanced climate ambition will create good-paying jobs, advance innovative technologies, and help vulnerable countries adapt to climate impacts,” the White House said in a statement Friday.

The U.S. is also expected to announce “an ambitious 2030 emissions target.”

Mr Biden invited leaders of the Major Economies Forum on Energy and Climate, which brings together 17 countries responsible for approximately 80 per cent of global emissions and global GDP as well as heads of other countries that are especially “vulnerable to climate impacts” or demonstrating “strong climate leadership.”

A small number of business and civil society leaders will also participate in the Summit.

Major World leaders invited include US rivals Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson to the summit.

Others are Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz, Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan

Aside President Buhari, there are four other African leaders among the invitees. They are Gabon President Ali Bongo Ondimba, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta and President Félix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

UFC star Isreal Adesanya ditched by BMW over r.a.p.e comment

Nigerian-born New Zealand Ultimate Fighting Championship star, Isreal Adesanya aka Style Bender have been ditched by BMW.

BMW dropped Adesanya as a brand ambassador after the offensive comments he made in an online video.

Adesanya was due to be unveiled as the new face of the BMW New Zealand on Monday, the same day as the launch of the new BMW M3 and M4 models, but the German car manufacturer has decided to go a different way.

Adesanya had in the course of the week in what he perceived as a ‘fight talk’ had told possible future opponent, Kevin Holland in an online video, “Bro, I will fu**ing rape you.”

It was this that prompted BMW to prematurely terminate their dealings with the UFC star.

However, the offensive comments Adesanya made earlier this week on social media threatening to r.a.p.e a fellow UFC fighter Kevin Holland have landed him in hot water.

In a statement issued, BMW said, “Due to the comments made by an athlete online, we have reviewed our pending association with said athlete and we have decided not to push forward with a specific ambassador for the brand at this time in New Zealand.”

Adesanya’s stock has risen immensely in the public sphere in recent years, becoming one of UFC’s biggest stars. He has gained a 20-0 record in the middleweight division for which he is champion in, and was named Sportsman of the Year at the 2019 Halberg awards.

Adesanya on Friday apologised for uttering such a comment on Instagram.

He said, “Last weekend fight talk escalated to a point in which I crossed the line. I understand the gravity of this word and how it can affect and hurt other people apart from my opponent, although that was NEVER my intention… I am still growing under the spotlight, and I take this as a lesson to be more selective with words under pressure.”

Adesanya has himself admitted he “crossed the line” and he has also been criticised by New Zealand’s deputy prime minister, Grant Robertson.

Why I cried after Sanwo-Olu’s house gift –Iya Awero

Veteran actress, Lanre Hassan, popularly known as Iya Awero, was in the news during the week when she was gifted a new two-bedroom apartment in Ikorodu by the Lagos State government.

Expressing joy at the gesture, Iya Awero told Saturday Beats that she was overwhelmed with gratitude and that was why she cried at the presentation. She said, “It came as a surprise to me. I was not expecting it at all. I am so happy about it. I could not even control myself and I did not know when tears started dropping from my eyes.

“I am very thankful to the Lagos State government. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu said that it is not after we die that we should be celebrated, and that is very important. If one is appreciated in one’s lifetime, one would know one is doing well and one would even strive to do better. That way, the younger generations would also be encouraged to put in their best because they know they would be celebrated.

“We (entertainers) make people laugh away their sorrows and it does feel good when we are appreciated. Others should also learn a lesson from what the Lagos State government has done.”

Reacting to those who feel the gesture should have come a long time ago, Iya Awero said, “I feel it came at the right time because I am still alive. Whenever God blesses one, one should receive it with open hands. There isn’t a lot of money in the industry. However, our work comes with a lot of respect and honour. We are usually celebrated wherever we go.”

The elderly actress also stated that she had no plan to have an elaborate house warming ceremony. She said, “I would just conduct prayers and hand over everything to God. There is no plan to have any party.”

On whether she had moved into the new house, she said, “No, I have not. I would move in at anytime I like. I have a house I am staying presently and I am not being pursued from there. There are also some paperwork I need to fill.”

Speaking on the issue of young actresses buying expensive cars and houses, which many suspect are gifts from ‘sugar daddies’, the veteran thespian said, “I don’t know anything about sugar daddies or even sugar mummies. All I know is that I call on God and He always answers me.”

Myanmar forces kill 19 on Armed Forces Day

At least 19 people across Myanmar were shot dead by security forces on Saturday, according to emergency workers and witnesses, as the junta celebrates Armed Forces Day with a military parade in the capital Naypyidaw.

AFP has independently confirmed that nine died in the central Mandalay region, three in northern Shan state, one in the ancient city of Bagan, and six in Myanmar’s commercial hub Yangon.

Local media puts the toll far higher.

Meanwhile, the embassies of the European Union and the United Kingdom have condemned the killing of “unarmed civilians” in Myanmar on Saturday, coinciding with the junta’s Armed Forces Day.

“This 76th Myanmar Armed Forces day will stay engraved as a day of terror and dishonour. The killing of unarmed civilians, including children, are indefensible acts,” the EU embassy in Yangon said on social media.

Former colonial power Britain also said that the security forces “have disgraced themselves by shooting unarmed civilians”.

Benin vs Nigeria: 2 players contract Covid-19 ahead kickoff

Two Players have tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of Benin Republic’s 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, qualifier against Nigeria on Saturday evening in Porto Novo, Completesports reports.

The two players that contracted the deadly coronavirus are Marcellin Koukpo and Jacques Bessan.

Koukpo and Bessan will play no part in Benin’s clash against the Super Eagles of Nigeria at the Stade Charles de Gaulle.

Benin head coach, Michel Dussuyer, has, however, called up Yannick Aguemon and Jean Ogouchi as replacements for Koukpo and Bessan.

Dussuyer’s men currently sit in the second position on the Group L table with a point behind leaders Nigeria, who have eight points after four matches.

A victory for Benin against Nigeria will see them top the Group and boast their chances of qualifying for the 2022 AFCON in Cameroon.

Meghan Markle's dad drives 2,000 miles to her neighbour Oprah's home with letter

Thomas Markle has been pictured delivering a letter to Oprah Winfrey’s house, asking for an interview with the US TV host.

He drove up to her property in Montecito, California, and handed the letter to a security guard on Thursday, March 25.

The 76-year-old, who made the 1,000-mile trip from his house in Rosarito, Mexico, wants to tell his side of the story, it is claimed.

A source told The Sun: “Thomas delivered a letter to Oprah asking her to contact him so he could tell his side of the story.

“This was not a note to Meghan and Harry, it was meant for Oprah.

“Thomas watched the interview she did with them and feels he deserves a chance to have his say.”

Oprah lives just a mile away from Meghan, Harry and Archie.

The Duchess of Sussex and her dad have not spoken for four years.

During the interview with Oprah, Meghan discussed her strained relationship with her dad, saying “I grieve a lot”.

She told Oprah: “I mean, I’ve lost my father. I lost a baby. I nearly lost my name. I mean, there’s the loss of identity. But I’m still standing, and my hope for people in the takeaway from this is to know that there’s another side.”

She said she found it difficult to describe his actions, adding: “I genuinely can’t imagine doing anything to intentionally cause pain to my child.”

Thomas leaked part of a letter that Mehgan had sent after her 2018 wedding to the press.

The Duchess of Sussex then won a court case against Associated Newspapers for publishing it, citing breach of copyright and misuse of her private information.

I want to go for BBNaija –Eniola Badmus reveals

Since auditions for the popular Big Brother Naija reality show began during the week, there has been palpable excitement across most social media platforms, especially by hopeful contestants and diehard fans of the show.

Actress and movie producer, Eniola Badmus, is also interested in the show as she revealed to Saturday Beats that she would like to be a housemate on the new season.

She said, “If I were not a celebrity, I would definitely go for BBNaija season six. As a matter of fact, if there is an opportunity to go into the house at any time, I will go.

I am not one of the people that condemn the show. I don’t even think anyone should condemn it. Watching the show is by choice. The show is not aired on national television. It is on cable TV where one has to subscribe with money.

Participating in a reality show would not be hard for me because I have being in one before. One advantage I have is that I attended a boarding school. I actually won the show I participated in but they have not given me the prize money till now.

I learnt a lot of things during that reality show. The tasks challenged me and broadened my knowledge. I like reality shows because it is a way of co-existing with different people. It also teaches one how to deal with certain circumstances.

“The reality show is a go-to place for anyone who wants to be shot into the limelight. Over the years, the cash prize (of BBN) has been increasing and now, it’s N90m.”
