There was confusion in Owakande 2 in the Obubra Local Government Area of Cross River State following the disappearance of the body of a lawyer, Mr Egbara Owan, which was scheduled for interment at the weekend.
According to Vanguard, the programme for interment of the man had begun with a lying-in-state at the Obubra Magistrate Court on Saturday but family members and sympathisers who gathered there had to disperse when an ambulance sent to the local mortuary to take the corpse for the ceremony returned without the corpse.
“Apparently someone had gone to the mortuary to remove the corpse and when the family went there yesterday, Saturday, to remove the body, it was nowhere to be found, a source from the area, James Okpa said.
He said the morticians could not explain who removed the body and investigation had been launched by community elders to find out what happened to the corpse.
“The family seems to be in disagreement on the date for the burial but it is not known who took away the corpse,” he added.
He said the police had not been invited into the matter yet because it was still seen as a family issue.
“The matter is being handled internally first but from what the elders are saying, if by next week the body is not located the police would be contacted,” he said.
The deceased was a member of the Cross River State Judicial Service Commission.
A teenager has stabbed to death his 21-year-old friend said to have stolen his N55,000 mobile phone, police in Adamawa said.
The 18-year-old Abdulkarrm was arrested after he stabbed Ayuba Hassan in Mubi.
According to Daily Trust, Abdulkarim told journalists that he and two other friends had gone home to bed after a failed attempt to steal jerry cans of petrol from a filling station in Mubi.
He said he realised his mobile phone was missing when he woke up at night, and his two friends told him only Ayuba visited the house while he was asleep.
When he confronted Ayuba the next day, an argument ensued, which degenerated into a heated argument.
Then the duo, accompanied by two of their friends, agreed to go to the riverside and fight.
Abdulkarim further stated that on their way to the riverside, Ayuba threw a stone at him, prompting him to pull out a knife and stab him twice in the hand and chest.
As soon as Ayuba collapsed and died, the suspect said he fled the murder scene, leaving his victim in a pool of blood.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Adamawa, DSP Sulaiman Nguroje, said the suspect would be charged to court as soon as the investigation was concluded.

A newly married man and four others reportedly died in an auto crash that occurred in Aponmu village in Akure South council area of Ondo State along Akure /Ondo highway.
The 18-seater bus marked Lagos AAA 859 XC in which they were travelling in from Lagos plunged into the Owena river, killing them instantly.
The spot of the crash is about ten kilometers to Akure, the state capital which was their destination before the crash.

However, the wife was lucky as she only reportedly sustained injuries
The couple, it was learnt were at Ikoyi Registry on Saturday and were coming down to Akure for the traditional wedding scheduled for this weekend, Saturday before the ugly incident.
The driver of the bus according to report also died in the crash.
Eyewitnesses told newsmen that the driver lost control of the vehicle while on top speed while it was raining.
According to the source, “if not for the speed, the driver could have controlled the bus from plunging into the river which is about 25 feet deep.
” After the accident, the passengers were trapped inside the bus deep down in the river because people could not jump inside the river.
” It took almost an hour after the accident that help came and five persons including a five year old boy were rescued and rushed to the hospital for treatment.
The eyewitness also attributed the late response to the rain.
He told newsmen that the vehicle landed on a rock inside the river and the impact was great on the vehicle and the hit the rock at the bottom of the river, causing great damage to the vehicle and responsible for the death of the casualties recorded.

A student of the College of Business and Management Studies in Konduga, Juliana Christopher, who was kidnapped by Boko Haram, has said she saw many Chibok girls in the insurgents’ camp.
He added that many small girls were either pregnant or nursing children belonging to the insurgents.
Christopher, in an interview with The Punch, said he spent three weeks in Boko Haram camp after the insurgents, who were dressed in military uniforms, stormed her school in Borno State and abducted her.
She explained that after she and her colleagues were kidnapped by the insurgents, they took them into the forest, where she saw other victims who were pregnant and nursing babies of the Boko Haram insurgents.
She said, “On reaching their camp, we met many young girls there and the whole place was in disarray. It was in 2014 and I was in the Boko Haram camp for three weeks. We met Chibok girls in the camp. While in the camp, I saw so many small girls, who were kidnapped. Some were being molested.
“Some were carrying children, while others were pregnant for the Boko Haram insurgents. It was a disgusting thing. Fortunately for me and some other girls, we escaped from the forest and found our way back to Chibok.”
She explained that her father took ill shortly after she was kidnapped, adding that efforts to rescue him proved abortive.
She said, “On getting to Chibok, I found the whole community in a state of confusion; so, I asked after my parents and was told that my father took ill when he heard about my abduction and my mother took him to the hospital in Maiduguri.
I set out to go and look for them in Maiduguri, but I could not go far because the road was blocked and no movement was allowed, except for military vehicles; in that process, my father died.
“When I heard about my father’s condition, I became worried and tried to locate my parents in the hospital, not knowing that he was already dead. When I eventually got to the hospital in Maiduguri, my mother had conveyed my father’s corpse to Chibok for burial, so my mother said I should stay back to avoid another kidnap.
“That was how I got to this camp. I couldn’t continue with my education, because my mother alone could not take care of my schooling and that of my other siblings.”
Nigeria’s Kelechi Iheanacho scored the only goal of the match on Sunday as Leicester City beat Southampton to reach the FA Cup final.

Iheanacho fired Leicester to victory on 54 minutes of the second half.
Iheanacho, who had been pretty quiet all game sprung back to life when it mattered to fired the Foxes ahead.
It was brilliant work from Jamie Vardy as he powered away down the left and got into the box before finding Iheanacho, whose first shot was blocked but he put in the rebound.
The Nigerian striker had scored two goals for Leicester City in the quarters and a huge goal in the semi-final.
CNN anchor Chris Cuomo has said that police reform won't happen until "white people’s kids start getting killed" after a string of police shootings of people of colour.
"George Floyd, Daunte Wright, I wonder if you'll remember their names six months from today because there'll be replaced by so many others," Mr Cuomo said during his show on Friday.
Mr Cuomo criticised those who blame victims after police shootings. He specifically blasted those who have resisted calls for police accountability, and have tried to justify the shootings of 13-year-old Adam Toledo in Chicago and others who died during altercations with police.
The CNN host said: "What are you going to do when you see these shootings? You know what you're going to do. 'That George Floyd, did you hear about him? That Daunte Wright, did you hear about him? That 13-year-old Adam, you know he was a gangbanger.'
"Why do that? Because you want to make the problem 'Them,' takes the onus off the idea that you're wrong about policing not needing to change.
The Premier League, its European counterparts and UEFA have released a joint statement condemning plans for a European Super League and will consider banning any teams that take part in the breakaway format.
12 clubs from England, Spain and Italy have been in talks to join a new league format which would effectively bring an end to the Uefa Champions League.
The Premier League’s ‘big six’ – Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham – are understood to be among those clubs to have signed up for the new format which would operate without qualification or relegation.
But a joint statement from UEFA, the English Football Association, the Premier League, the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), La Liga, the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) and Lega Serie A has strongly hit back at the ‘cynical project’ – warning of heavy sanctions for those involved.
The governing bodies also paid tribute to clubs from France and Germany thought to be Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund for turning down the proposal.
A statement read: ‘UEFA, the English Football Association and the Premier League, the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and LaLiga, and the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) and Lega Serie A have learned that a few English, Spanish and Italian clubs may be planning to announce their creation of a closed, so-called Super League.
‘If this were to happen, we wish to reiterate that we – UEFA, the English FA, RFEF, FIGC, the Premier League, LaLiga, Lega Serie A, but also FIFA and all our member associations – will remain united in our efforts to stop this cynical project, a project that is founded on the self-interest of a few clubs at a time when society needs solidarity more than ever.
‘We will consider all measures available to us, at all levels, both judicial and sporting in order to prevent this happening. Football is based on open competitions and sporting merit; it cannot be any other way.
‘As previously announced by FIFA and the six Federations, the clubs concerned will be banned from playing in any other competition at domestic, European or world level, and their players could be denied the opportunity to represent their national teams.’
Reports suggest a formal announcement on the Super League could be announced tonight.

A Florida nurse and mother-of-three is facing federal charges over threats to kill Vice President Kamala Harris.
Niviane Petit Phelps, from Miami, allegedly shared the death threats with her husband who is serving time in a Tallahassee prison.
The Secret Service was alerted to the video messages in early March after they were sent over JPay, an application that allows the sharing of media between prisoners and those on the outside. Authorities became aware of the threats after they were revealed by her husband.
According to the federal complaint, the messages “generally depict Phelps complaining and speaking angrily to the camera about her hatred for President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, among others”.
The complaint adds: “However, in these videos, Phelps also made statements about killing Vice President Harris.”
According to the Secret Service complaint, in a video sent on 13 February, 39-year-old Ms Phelps said: “Kamala Harris you are going to die. Your days are numbered already. Someone paid me $53,000 just to f*** you up and I’m gonna take the, I’m gonna do the job, okay.”
Footage from the following day shows Ms Phelps saying: “I’m going to the gun range, just for your a**, until you f****** leave the chair.”
In another video, the nurse reportedly said: “I’m going to the gun range... I swear to God, today is your day you’re gonna die. 50 days from today, mark this day down.”
On 20 February, a photo shared with her husband and later obtained by authorities appeared to show Ms Phelps at a gun range.
“On February 22, 2021, Phelps applied for a concealed weapons permit,” the Secret Service complaint stated.
The Secret Service and detectives from the Miami-Dade Police Department went to Ms Phelps’ home on 3 March to speak with her but she refused to be interviewed, court documents revealed.
The complaint reports that agents received a call from Ms Phelps two days later saying that she had been put on administrative leave by her employer, Jackson Health System.
A Secret Service agent went back to Ms Phelps’ residence on 6 March.
“She was angry at the time about Kamala Harris becoming Vice President but that she is ‘over it now.’ Phelps expressed how she believes Kamala Harris [is] not actually ‘black’ and how during [the] inauguration Kamala Harris disrespectfully put her hand on her clutch purse instead of the bible,” the complaint said.
Ms Phelps, 39, was detained on Thursday. She has been charged with making death threats against VP Harris. She is currently being held at a federal detention center in Miami after a judge believed her to be a “danger to the community,” The Miami Herald reported.
Popular Nigerian online skit maker, Mr Macaroni, has taken to his verified Twitter account to reveal the ordeal he faced when he was arrested by the Police during one of the #EndSARS protests.
Following the October 20, 2020 shootings at the Lekki Tollgate, many people kicked against the recommendation for reopening the tollgate.
The funnyman was among those who participated in the protest against the reopening of the toll gate. He was subsequently picked up among 40 other protesters and arrested for defying the Lagos State directive against the protest.
The protesters have since been granted N100,000 bail each and arraigned on charges bordering on flouting the COVID-19 protocol on public gatherings and ‘breaking an order not to protest’.
However, the skit maker stated that while he was in custody, policemen took turns to beat him because he is ‘Mr Macaroni’.
In a series of tweets, he further noted that he would take the case to court.
He wrote, “That very day, I swore never to stop using my platform to call out the evil that the Police do. If they can do that to someone people know, imagine what they do to hundreds of thousands of unknown Nigerians.
”We are in court though. We filed since last month; Aluta Continua. When I was at Adeniji police station, the police officers took turns to beat me up. They were even calling themselves to come and beat ‘Mr Macaroni’
“They said in my life when next I hear police, I will run! One said if not that people would ask about me, he would have killed me. I should promote the same police institution that oppresses Nigerians? The majority of Police officers are just there to steal, rob, harass, brutalise and oppress the people. We see it happen every day.
“You swore an oath to protect, yet you kill and destroy. Zero conscience! Every day, there is always one negative report or the other about the Nigeria Police.”
According to him, the Police have turned themselves into criminals; robbing, oppressing and doing everything in their power to make life miserable for the average Nigerian.
Two suspected drug traffickers, Chukwudi Destiny and Ezekiel Chibuzo arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, have excreted 191 pellets of cocaine and heroin.
This is coming barely two weeks after a Madrid, Spain-bound trafficker, Okonkwo Chimezie Henry, excreted 113 wraps of Cocaine after his arrest at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA.
The suspects were arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, and they excreted the substance while under observation.
A statement issued by NDLEA’s spokesman, Femi Babafemi on Sunday said on 10th April 2021, during the outward screening of passengers on Ethiopian airline to Italy, NDLEA operatives at MMIA intercepted and referred one Chukwudi Destiny for scanning and the scan result proved positive to drug ingestion.
Consequently, the statement said he was placed under excretion observation and that in the process, he excreted 92 pellets of Heroin with a total weight of 1.300Kg.
”Also on 12th April 2021, during the inbound examination of consignments on Ethiopian airline cargo flight from South Africa, operatives at SAHCO import shed made a seizure of 11.550kg of Heroin cleverly packed and concealed in corn flakes cartons.
”Four clearing agents are in custody in connection to the seizure,” it stated.
The statement quoted the Commander, MMIA Command of the NDLEA, Ahmadu Garba, as saying that “a sting operation was executed on the address provided by one the suspects.
”In the process, a Congolese, Kayembe Kamba Mazepy was arrested. After his arrest, he mentioned another person who is to receive the parcel from him.
”On the strength of the information, another sting operation was conducted in the early hours of Saturday 17th April, 2021 where the person that came to take delivery was arrested,”
In the same vein, NDLEA said on Friday 16th of April, 2021, another trafficker, Ezekiel Chibuzo who arrived Lagos from Brazil on board Qatar airline was also arrested for drug ingestion.
“He has so far excreted 99 wraps of Cocaine. This is just as officers at export shed of the airport have seized 822.950kg of khat leaves heading to UK and US,” it said.
Reacting to the latest drug haul at the airport, Chairman/Chief Executive of NDLEA, Brig. General Mohamed Buba Marwa commended the officers and men of the MMIA Command for their commitment to the nation’s crusade against illicit drugs.
“While I commend the officers and men of our MMIA Command, let me again warn unrepentant barons and traffickers that the game is up for them because we’ll continue to disrupt their criminal trade as part of efforts to secure our country and protect the future of our youths”, Marwa stated in his message on Sunday.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has alerted the public about the emergence of a number of fake Twitter accounts masquerading as the genuine Twitter handle of its Chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa.
The EFCC listed some of the fake Twitter accounts to be @AbdurasheedBawa, @AbdulrBawa and @AbdulRashidBawa1.
This is contained in a statement issued on Sunday and signed by the Head, Media & Publicity of the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren.
According to the anti-graft agency, “One of the fake Twitter handles, @AbdulRashidBaw1, which was created in February following the appointment of Bawa as EFCC Chair, has witnessed a steady stream of followers, an indication that many have been hoodwinked into believing they were dealing with the EFCC Chair.
“The Commission is alarmed that this prank by unscrupulous elements is unwittingly exposing suspecting citizens to potentially grievous manipulation by fraudsters.
“Against this background, it is imperative to again warn that, these Twitter accounts are fake and have no link whatsoever with Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa, Executive Chairman, EFCC.
“Those following the fake Twitter accounts are therefore doing so at their own risk.
“In the same vein, the Commission wishes to remind the promoters of the fake Twitter accounts that their actions amount to impersonation or identity theft which is a criminal offence under the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, Etc.,) Act 2015.
“They are warned to desist or risk the full wrath of the law.”
