Ihedioha begins demolition of monuments built by Okorocha

Barely 24 hours after assumption of office, Imo State governor, Emeka Ihedioha has commenced the demolition of monuments built by the immediate past governor, Rochas Okorocha as his first action as governor.

Ihedioha was sworn-in as the sixth Executive governor of the state on Wednesday. The Akachi tower, one of the many tourist attractions built by the former governor is being demolished. It was built on a reclaimed dumpsite that was abandoned by previous administrations.

The demolition exercise was supervised by soldiers who barred journalists from covering the exercise.

The Akachi monument was one of the structures commissioned by the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo barely one week ago.

Inter Milan boss Luciano Spalletti sacked

Inter Milan manager Luciano Spalletti has been sacked after two years at the club. Former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is set to replace the 60-year-old at the San Siro.

Spalletti guided the Serie A side to fourth place and the final Champions League spot ahead of rivals AC Milan but they finished 21 points behind champions Juventus and were knocked out of the Champions League during the group stages last season.

A club statement on Twitter on Thursday read: 'FC Internazionale Milano can confirm that Luciano Spalletti is no longer head coach of the first team. 'The club wishes to thank Spalletti for his work and the results achieved together.'

Rochas Okorocha’s wife not arrested by EFCC

There is no truth in the story making the rounds that operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC) have staged a crackdown on former Imo governor Rochas Okorocha, his wife Nkechi and some other members of his family.

A report, shared by multiple news platforms claimed that the EFCC arrested Okorocha’s wife Nkechi and other relations, Gerald Okorocha and Okey Okorocha in Ogboko, Okorocha’s hometown.

The report also claimed that the commission has sealed Okorocha’s Eastern Palm University Ogboko.

When asked to confirm the report, an EFCC source said the whole story was concocted. “It is fake news”, he said.

Kaduna govt extends maternity leave to 6 months

Governor Nasir El-Rufai has revealed that female civil servants in Kaduna State would now enjoy six months of maternity leave.

El-Rufai wrote on twitter, “I am pleased to announce that just yesterday, our State Executive Council approved six months maternity leave for our female public servants.” He added that the prolonged maternity leave would encourage the healthy development of babies.

“This encourages the healthy development of infants through prolonged breastfeeding, among other benefits,” he stated. El-Rufai was sworn into office for a second term on Wednesday, alongside his new deputy, Dr. Hadiza Balarabe.

Seven dead and 19 missing as tourist boat crashes and sinks in Budapest

Seven people have been confirmed dead after a sightseeing boat carrying 33 passengers and two crew crashed and sank in the Danube River.

A further 19 people are still missing after the boat hit another vessel, sparking the tragedy in Budapest on Wednesday night.

The boat was carrying tourists from Korea while the two crew members were identified as Hungarian.

Rescue officials said seven bodies had been recovered while a further seven people were rescued and are now being treated in hospital.


 The sunken boat was located early on Thursday near the Margit Bridge, not far from the neo-Gothic Parliament building on the river bank.

Employees from the South Korean Embassy in Budapest were assisting Hungarian officials in identifying those rescued and the deceased.

Officials said searchers were checking the Danube for miles downriver from Budapest.

Man who set himself on fire outside the White House dies in hospital

The man who set himself on fire on a lawn near the White House on Wednesday has died in the hospital after suffering burns to 85 percent of his body.

Arnav Gupta, 33, was identified by US Park Police on Thursday after dying in the hospital.

He had been reported missing by his family around the time that he was seen setting himself on fire on a lawn at Ellipse Park near the White House.

Gupta was from Bethesda, Maryland. His motive for the deadly stunt remains unclear. 

He was reported missing by his family after leaving his home at 9.20am. Three hours later, he was filmed setting himself on fire.

Penultimate 1983 Coup, Gen. Buhari rode on Corruption campaign. Sir, innocent children birth then are now full adults, worst with corruption either as leaders or masses. Something is not working.

Each corrupt leader emanates from the masses. Our collective backgrounds as Nigerians which education should be responsible for is destroyed. There are disfunctional syllabuses at the elementary stages in school. We urgently need a law that will make it criminal for a CHILD age 2-12years NOT GO TO SCHOOL. Compulsory BASIC EDUCATION is key.

Subjects MUST include Rights, Civic and Social education. If the next generation have these backgrounds across states, irrespective of religion or tribe, Nigeria is on the path of true development, peace and vastly reduced corruption. The system will be producing A BETTER SOCIETY. All political parties must key into this.

Restructuring Police security is non-negotiable. No government genuinely fights corruption with these kind of police services, stop fooling Nigerians. 98% of Police Stations do not have staff toilet, condusive cells, conference rooms, printers, laptops, internet etc. If a Professor is the 2nd man in a country(on 2nd term), it will be a shame her education and policing are like this. The overall Welfare, Training and Logistics of Police officers need quality upgrade. Declare State of Emergency on Education and Police asap.

Mr VP, look into the SERIAL HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSES by Law Enforcements. Our score card is too low. Picture the pain, wailing, scars, agony of Nigerians in police stations. Battering with rods, tieing citizens upside down, multiple slaps and fists in the name of interrogation are criminal, injustice and killing patriotism. The extreme wickedness from Police, Army brings shame and dishonour to the flag. These brutalities from SARS etc is a tickling time bomb.
