Tyler Perry hires Micheal Baden to carry out a second autopsy on nephew who died in prison

Tyler Perry has hired his own medical examiner after nephew Gavin Porter was deemed to have committed suicide.

Perry, 50, has enlisted Dr. Michael Baden, a pathologist who has been involved in a number of high profile cases including Jeffrey Epstein, to conduct a second autopsy for his late nephew, according to TMZ.

This move comes after the filmmaker's relative was found Tuesday night hanging from a bed sheet in his prison cell while in solitary confinement at a prison facility near Union Parish in Louisiana.

Perry is suspicious of the original assertion that Porter killed himself because his nephew got into a fight with another inmate and placed in solitary confinement.

Porter was serving a 20-year sentence for shooting and killing his father, in front of his mother, who is Perry's sister.

Perry revealed in a statement that he had hoped Porter would be able to work for him, after serving his time.

'Call me naive, but it was my hope that after serving his time, and really reflecting and showing much remorse and asking God for forgiveness, that he would have been able to come to work for me, joining all the other former inmates who work for me and turn his life around just as they have. But that day will never come,' Perry said.

When asked why he hired Baden to conduct a second autopsy, Perry made it clear he and his family are not conspiracy theorists.

'I want to be clear that we are not a family of conspiracy theorists and want to believe that there was no foul play just as the sheriff said publicly,' Perry said.

A rep from the Union Parrish Sheriff's Office clarified that the investigation is ongoing.

Judge denies Rob Kardashian's motion to strip Blac Chyna the custody of their daughter

A judge has denied Rob Kardashian's motion to strip ex Blac Chyna of custody of three-year-old daughter Dream.

The only Kardashian son originally filed an emergency ex parte motion back in January, requesting he get primary custody of their child in light of allegations she was drinking and acting inappropriately in front of her offspring.

But a judge denied the motion, finding there was no emergency with the situation, according to documents obtained by The Blast.

Rob will still be allowed to pursue custody changes but they will not be considered on an immediate basis, meaning the former couple's dispute could continue on into the foreseeable future.

New court documents from Chyna describe the mother-of-two as 'shocked' to learn about Rob's request to take custody away from the reality star/pin-up and only permit her weekend visitation with a monitor.

According to the legal filings, she 'was shocked to learn that Defendant Rob Kardashian moved ex parte on January 3, 2020, for an emergency order to permanently change the Custody Order for Dream so that Chyna would only be permitted to see her daughter from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday with a "monitor" present, rather than the 5 days a week she now sees and cares for precious Dream.'

Chyna also claimed that she faced unfair treatment after the January ex parte motion was leaked to the press, 'resulting in heinous public comments' regarding her.

'Chyna is now forced to expend time and resources to oppose Rob’s baseless motion,' her legal team contended.

US female ex-mayor sentenced to three years for fraud

The former mayor of Baltimore was on Thursday sentenced to three years in prison on corruption charges related to sales of her self-published children’s book to companies with close ties to state and local government.

Catherine Pugh, a 69-year-old Democrat who resigned last year, was also ordered to pay around $1 million in restitution, according to a statement from the federal prosecutor for the US East Coast state of Maryland.

She pleaded guilty to fraud and tax evasion in November for raking in hundreds of thousands of dollars by selling her “Healthy Holly” children’s books to local organizations to which she had ties — sometimes without delivering the books.

“I accept total responsibility,” Pugh said in a video in which she expressed regret for tarnishing Baltimore’s image as the city of some 600,000 people grapples with a soaring crime rate, racial unrest and poverty levels that are among the highest in the country.

But Maryland District Court Judge Deborah Chasanow said Thursday, “I have yet frankly to hear any explanation that makes sense.”

“This was not a tiny mistake, lapse of judgment,” she said, according to the Baltimore Sun newspaper. “This became a very large fraud. The nature and circumstances of this offence clearly I think are extremely, extremely serious.”

The newspaper revealed last year that the University of Maryland Medical System spent $500,000 to buy 100,000 copies of Pugh’s “Healthy Holly” children’s books between 2012 and 2018, while she was a member of the health system’s board.

After first denouncing an investigation into the matter as a “witch hunt,” the former mayor then called the incident a “regrettable mistake” and returned $100,000 of the sales.

But other sales were uncovered, including to Kaiser Permanente insurance company, which said it paid Pugh $114,000 for “Healthy Holly” books from 2015 to 2018.

Kaiser had won a $48 million contract in 2017 to provide health insurance to city employees from 2018 to 2020.

Pugh, who was elected in 2016, finally quit her position in May 2019 after calls for her resignation intensified.

Eyebrows raised as Prince Harry 'booked entire first class train carriage' with bodyguards

Prince Harry and his bodyguards had an entire First Class train carriage to themselves after his eco-conference in Edinburgh.

Such behaviour on the LNER train to King’s Cross on Wednesday night stands in stark contrast to that of other royals who go by train on official engagements.

Earlier this month, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge travelled to and from a visit to the new Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre near Loughborough, Leicestershire, alongside other commuters.

Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall also occasionally travel by train, taking their seats with other paying customers.

The Queen is, however, afforded a small First Class carriage to herself when travelling by train to Sandringham, given her status as the reigning monarch.

Last night Buckingham Palace declined to comment on Harry’s travel arrangements – but sources insisted that he regularly travelled by train with other commuters.

Mind your business and leave Lagos politics... APC Lagos tells Oyo State Governor, Makinde

Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Thursday advised Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde to focus on the challenge of governing his state, instead of day-dreaming about how the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) can win elections in Lagos in 2023.

The party said, in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Seye Oladejo, that the Oyo State governor did not speak on his future permutation for Lagos PDP from a vantage point of experience.

The statement reads: “My candid advice to Governor Makinde is this Igbo proverb that ‘those whose palm kernels were broken for them by some benevolent spirit should learn to be humble’.

“His Excellency is apparently still excited that he managed to attain his dream office after series of electoral defeats. He needs not forget that he leveraged on the storm in the Oyo State APC family.

“However, his lack of experience in governance at any level has become apparent with nine months of false starts and lack of developmental ideas. It will take more than the still-born unity amongst gangsters to take Lagos State from the path of progressive governance.

“It appears His Excellency Makinde has the spirit of clairvoyance through which he’s able to predict his political future of imminent defeat in future elections. He could boost his democratic credentials by obeying court orders as regards the issue of local government chairmen. Those he disappointed in their ill-conceived desperate power-sharing formula are still waiting to take their pound of flesh.

“The good and politically sophisticated people of Oyo State know better than to allow unfocused experimentation in governance to continue.”

American thief steals vehicle with body inside

A thief stole a hearse with a body inside then went on a wild ride, ending with a chase and a crash on a busy freeway.

Authorities say they found the body undisturbed inside a casket Thursday morning and took James Juarez into custody after the crash, which closed the 110 Freeway during the morning commute.

The crime began Wednesday night, when the suspected thief stole the black Lincoln Navigator from outside St. Anthony Greek Orthodox Church in East Pasadena.

The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department pleaded with the thief whose identity was not known at that point on social media to return the body in a post that was widely shared online.

“Out of all the bad decisions you have made, at least make one good one & bring back the deceased person & casket inside the Navigator,” it tweeted.

Juarez, 25, was booked Thursday on suspicion of grand theft auto, police said.

Transgender shoplifter spared jail when there is ‘no way to confirm her gender’

A transgender woman who threatened shop staff with a claw hammer has been spared jail after a court heard there was no way to confirm her gender reassignment.

Leila Le Fey, 40, admitted brandishing the weapon at shop manager Enoch Adetayo after entering a Budgens store in Brighton in a bid to steal wine at 4am on November 6 last year.

She was sentenced to six months in prison, but this order was reversed when Judge Stephen Mooney heard that she did not have certified evidence of her gender reassignment and would have to be sent to a male-only jail.

The only way Le Fey could ‘prove’ her new gender would be an ‘undignified examination’, which court staff were not prepared to do, her barrister Rebecca Upton said at Lewes Crown Court.

The shoplifter would not be kept in solitary confinement and would be vulnerable in this situation, she added.

Addressing Le Fey, the judge said ‘when you took out the claw hammer it must have been terrifying’, adding that there was ‘no excuse’ to assault Mr Adetayo, who had challenged her when she attempted to steal the wine.

After pulling out the hammer, she had tried to grab another bottle of wine and flee, but police arrived and arrested her, Rowan Jenkins, prosecuting, said.

Ms Upton said her client had battled with drink and drug addictions and had kept herself out of trouble since 2014 before a relapse last year.

Le Fey was given a six-month suspended sentence with 30 rehabilitation sessions after admitting to common assault and possession of an offensive weapon.

Judge Mooney said ‘issues had arisen’ and acknowledged that ‘we live in a society which acknowledges and embraces diversity and allows and encourages people to live the life they want to’.

He continued: ‘Sometimes society does not make the necessary or appropriate adjustments in all ways it can to reflect the adjustments of society as a whole.

“Having reflected again upon the impact an immediate custodial sentence would have, the difficulties there are and the intractable problems the prison service would face, I have reconsidered whether imprisonment must be immediate.’

Army to recruit Nigerian youths to fight insurgency

process. It is a tough training, it requires a lot of physical and mental fitness. So, we need young men and women who are physically fit”, he noted.

He noted that those from the age of 16 and above would be employed in the Nigerian Army with four credits including English and Mathematics in not more than two sittings, urged the youths of Ebonyi state to massively apply for recruitment into the Army when its portal opens for recruitments which he said will soon commence.

Unlucky prisoner crashes through ceiling and lands in waiting room during botched jail break

A prisoner may well have staked a claim to the worst attempted escape from jail ever after it ended with her plummeting through the ceiling of the waiting room.

Jessica Boomershine, 42, was in jail after allegedly breaking into a house with another man and assaulting an 85-year-old in Miamisberg, Ohio.

As she was sitting in the waiting room at the Montgomery County Jail she decided to try to escape.

In CCTV footage, Boomershine is seen using a chair to hoist herself into a hole in the ceiling.

Other stunned inmates watch on before police finally enter the room.

Pieces of the ceiling begin to fall down before the entire roof collapses and Boomershine crashes back to the ground.

Officers rush to restrain the dazed prisoner who seemed to soften her fall by crashing into a trash can.

She was sitting in the waiting room before attending her court trial on January 21.

Boomershine is now facing new charges for escape and destruction of property on top of her original charges.

Mexico returns illegally exported bronze sculpture to Nigeria

The Government of Mexico has returned an Ile-Ife bronze sculpture to Nigeria after it discovered that it was illegally exported.

This was contained in a press statement obtained on Mexico’s website yesterday.

The statement said the origin of the sculpture was authenticated by experts.

It read in part, “The customs agency of Mexico’s Tax Administration Service, in coordination with the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Culture, returned a bronze Ife sculpture of the Yoruba people to Nigeria.

“The sculpture was discovered by customs officials at the Mexico City International Airport when the buyer tried to get it into the country.

“The sculpture and its provenance were authenticated by experts and agencies of both countries, with the participation of specialists from the National Institute of Anthropology and History. It had been exported illegally.”

The statement added that returning the sculpture to Nigeria was part of Mexico’s commitment to protecting cultural heritage.

It added, “Mexico strongly opposes illicit trafficking in cultural property. By returning it to Nigeria, the government shows its commitment to protecting cultural heritage. International monitoring and cooperation are essential for complying with current laws, including the 1970 UNESCO Convention.

“The illicit trafficking of cultural property is one of the main causes of the impoverishment of cultural heritage. It deprives the world of valuable information about the origin, context, and nature of these objects.”

The statement quoted Nigerian Ambassador Aminu Iyawa as thanking Mexico for its assistance.

“Mexico and Nigeria have strong bilateral ties and channels of dialogue that made it possible for this sculpture to be returned,” the statement added
