Simi still heavily pregnant, has not given birth –Source

During the week, the news made the rounds that celebrity couple, Simi and Adekunle Gold, had welcomed their first child in the United States.

In light of this, many of their fans thronged to their social media handles to congratulate and celebrate the award-winning songstress who had announced that she was expecting her first child through her latest single titled, ‘Duduke’.

However, when Saturday Beats reached out to a close source to the couple who preferred anonymity, the source confirmed that Simi was currently abroad with her husband and mother but had not put to bed.

The source, while thanking fans for the congratulatory messages, noted that the couple would announce the birth of their child when it happens.

“Simi is still pregnant but she will give birth any time from now. We are expecting the news at any moment. Her family is with her abroad. She was there before the release of ‘Duduke’ video. Right now, she has slowed down with some of her works but she has not given birth. Whenever Simi puts to bed, everybody would know,” the source said.

The couple has always kept part of their private life out of the social media space. Their 2019 wedding was a private affair which was attended by only close family and friends who didn’t share photos or videos of the couple or the wedding ceremony on social media.

Fans, however, caught a glimpse of the wedding when the couple released a music video that captured some of the joyful moments.

Drunk Hindu priest beheads man in Indian temple as a human sacrifice to goddess who came to him in a dream and said it would end coronavirus

A drunk 70-year-old priest decapitated a man as a sacrifice to end the coronavirus pandemic after smoking marijuana in India.

Sansari Ojha from the Brahmani Devi Temple under Narasinghpur police station in Cuttack cut off 52-year-old Saroj Kumar Pradhan's head.

The Hindu priest from the Bandhahuda area in Odisha killed the man to appease a goddess, he claimed.

He beheaded Pradhan with an axe at 1am in the morning in the temple's shrine after an argument.
Detective Ashish Kumar Singh said Ojha was heavily drunk at the time and surrendered to police the same day after coming to his senses.

He said Ojha claimed he was ordered by a goddess in his dream to sacrifice a human in order to bring an end to the pandemic.

Alok Ranjan Ray, Athagarh sub-divisional police officer, said: 'The priest claimed that he saw a goddess in his dream and was asked to sacrifice a human's life to bring an end to coronavirus.

'Hence, to appease the goddess, he decapitated the man,' he told Gulf News.
Police say they have began an investigation and both men were known to be smoking marijuana before the attack.

Mr Pradhan's body has been sent for an autopsy and the murder weapon has been seized from the shrine.

Social activist Satya Prakash Pati told India Today: 'It’s unbelievable in 21st century that people still behave in such barbaric ways.

'We demand strong action against the guilty.'

The priest was known to have a long-standing dispute with Mr Pradhan over a mango orchard in Bandhahuda village.

Mr Pradhan tended the trees at the Brahmani Devi temple, which has had its access restricted due to coronavirus, and the pair shared a room together.

India recorded 4,797 coronavirus deaths yesterday as the country's number of infections increased to 167,442, following exponential growth through May.

Monkeys run away with coronavirus test samples after attacking lab technician

A group of monkeys ran away with coronavirus test samples after attacking a lab technician, it is reported.

The technician was carrying test samples of three suspected Covid-19 patients when the bizarre incident is believed to have happened in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, India.

But the monkeys reportedly snatched the specimens and fled from the Meerut Medical College on Friday.

The samples had not yet been tested, Times Now reports.

Locals filmed what they say is one of the monkeys sat in a tree chewing one of the sample collection kits.

Fears are mounting about the virus spreading amid reports the monkeys are carrying the samples around nearby residential areas.

Amir Haque, Lucknow Bureau Chief, said in an interview with Times of India that during the attack, a monkey snatched one of the test samples.

He described the incident as "very, very dangerous".

"While animals cannot be responsible for carrying this disease, if they are carrying these sample tests and they move away from the medical college to residential areas then definitely if there are contaminated kits there, then they (the monkeys) can spread the infection further.

"Therefore it's a very serious alarm for health authorities as well as the local administration involved."

He said 'a troop of monkeys' around the college have been reported previously for creating 'nuisance' but that this was 'something new'.

Mr Haque said the medical college was looking into the matter and trying to trace the samples.

He said there is an alarm being sounded in and around the college.

Meanwhile, the three patients have had to be tested again.

South Korea delays reopening of schools as fear grows over second wave of Covid-19 infections

South Korea has delayed the reopening of schools by a week, as fears grow over a possible second wave of infections stemming from a new cluster traced to five bars and clubs in Itaewon, a nightlife district in Seoul.

The number of cases in the cluster has shot up to 94 as of Monday (May 11) evening. These include eight in the military, four foreigners, a nurse, and an 84-year-old grandmother.

This brings the total tally to over 10,900 cases, with 256 deaths.

Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun on Monday stressed the need for rapid mass testing to contain the latest cluster, adding that authorities have only managed to test less than half of the 5,517 people potentially exposed to the virus over a long weekend from Apr 30 to May 5.

Korea Centres for Disease Control and Prevention chief Jeong Eun-kyeong urged people who visited the clubs to go for testing regardless of whether they were symptomatic.

90 year-old grandma protects terrified black grandson from police aiming guns at him (video)

A 90-year-old grandmother protected her terrified black grandson as police aimed their guns at him.

Officers reportedly said they followed Tye Anders, 21, to his grandmum's home in Midland, Texas, US, after allegedly spotting him running a stop sign.

Shocking footage shows Mr Anders lying down on his grandmother's front lawn as three police officers point their pistols at him.

The encounter comes just days after a white officer was filmed kneeling on the neck of African American George Floyd, who died.

In police dashcam footage of the standoff with Mr Anders, his grandmother can be seen walking across her lawn to stand next to her grandson.

In another video of the incident, one of the officers can be heard telling Mr Anders to walk backwards towards them.

A panicked woman can be heard screaming 'he's scared, y'all have guns on him, he's black do y'all not see how many black people are getting shot?'

She added: "Y'all have guns on him, he's only 21 of course he's f*****g scared. I'd be scared too, I ain't walking towards you because y'all going to shoot."

The woman told the officers they would find 'any reason to shoot', adding that black people get punished 'just because of the colour of our skin'.

Mr Anders can be heard saying 'I'm scared' in the video.

His grandmother then crosses the lawn with her walking stick and stands next to him.

The crowd around Mr Anders pleads with the officers to lower their weapons and 'call somebody black out here'.

The policemen then approach the 21-year-old and start to handcuff him, while urging his grandmother to back off.

She then appears to fall over her grandson, sparking chaos as bystanders rush in to help her.

The woman filming the encounter screams 'y'all pushed her' before the video cuts.

Police dashcam footage then shows officers dragging the man to a squad car, while his grandmother remains sat on the lawn for several minutes, visibly distraught.

Mr Anders can be heard crying and saying 'they just wanted to f**k with me' and 'why are you doing this?' while in the back of the police vehicle.

He was arrested for evading police and taken to Midland County Jail, although he has since been released on bond, Mail Online reports.

According to the news site, his attorney said: "We believe and maintain that this was a stop based on racial profiling and there was no traffic violation."

They claimed an officer assaulted Mr Anders in a police car after he was arrested.

Ex Barcelona president claims Neymar is better than Cristiano Ronaldo

Barcelona have been told to resign Neymar as he is the second best player in the world behind Lionel Messi.

Barcelona have been told to resign Neymar as he is the second best player in the world behind Lionel Messi.

The Brazilian superstar was sold to Paris Saint Germain in 2017 for a world record €222 million transfer fee.

However, Neymar has been linked with a return to La Liga and Barcelona's former president Sandro Rosell believes his old club should pull out all the stops to resign him.

Rosell was at Barcelona when they bought Neymar from Santos in 2013, and claims he's better than Cristiano Ronaldo.

"If I were the president of Barca, I would try to sign Neymar," Rosell told COPE and Radio Marca.

"He is the second-best player in the world after Messi and fits perfectly into the philosophy of the club.
"But with experience, he would sign him with two contracts, one sports and the other behavioural."

Neymar has enjoyed a trophy-laden spell in Paris, winning three successive Ligue 1 titles, as well as a host of cup competitions.

Nigeria may reopen Lagos, Abuja, Kano airports in few days

Major airports in the country will in the “next few days” roar into life after weeks of inactivity caused by the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown.

The airports are the Murtala Mohammed Airport, Ikeja; Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport, Abuja; Aminu Kano Arport, Kano and the Port Harcourt Airport, Choba, Rivers State.

The  Federal Government on March 16 placed a travel ban on 13 countries, including China, United States  and Italy  that had recorded over 1,000 cases of Coronavirus.

On March 13 it shut all  airports for one month and later extended it by two weeks. On May 6, the government further extended the airports’ closure by four weeks until June 7.

The decision to commence flights at the airports, according to the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), is to avoid chocking the “system.”

NCAA Director-General, Captain Musa Nuhu stated this at a virtual event organised by the Aviation Safety Round Table Initiative (ART) titled COVID-19: The Challenges and Opportunity for Nigeria’s Aviation Value Chain, During and Post.

Nuhu said the NCAA worked with representatives of  airlines and ground handling companies before forwarding a proposal to the Minister of Aviation for approval.

The NCAA boss said: “We may resume domestic operations with four or five airports and we hope to expand as we get better. We don’t want to rush everything at the same time and get it choked up….

“Every money is important and we cannot achieve the two-meter physical distance. We are hopeful in the next few days we can resolve those issues and allow the airlines to commence operations.

“We have made our suggestion and recommendations and we are awaiting feedback from the Ministry of Aviation.”

Shanghai to extend Ighalo’s United loan deal

Odion Ighalo looks set to remain at Old Trafford for the rest of the season as his Chinese club, Shanghai Shenhua, reconsider their initial stance to recall him.

The former Watford striker joined on transfer day deadline in January, and had gone on to score four goals in eight appearances for the English giants before the EPL campaign was halted due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The striker is due to return to China at the end of May, but the possible reappearance of the 2019/20 Premier League season has led to talks of the agreement being extended.

Talks initially broke down between both clubs, but it seems communication has been restored and the CSL side now look ready to grant the striker an extension.

According to Sky Sports News, Shanghai are now open to allowing Ighalo remain with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side until next January, although they will expect him to sign a new deal with the Chinese outfit.

Ighalo’s existing contract with the Chinese club is due to expire in December 2022, although it is thought that he has been offered a new and improved deal until December 2024.

Motorcyclists protesting ban beat Lagos guards to a pulp

There was tension in the Zone 4 of the Lekki Peninsular Scheme 1 in Lagos State recently when no fewer than 50 motorcyclists protesting the ban on their operations stormed the area with weapons and injured four environmental guards and beat two of them to a pulp.

The battered guards were identified as Yusuf Adamu, Brown Robertson, Frank Onwudinjo and Caleb Onemine.

Punch Metro gathered during a visit to the area on Tuesday that the motorcyclists, who were identified as Goza boys from Borno State, protested against the actions of the Lekki Residents’ Association and its security outfit, as the enforcement of the ban had rendered them jobless.

While enforcing the ban, it was learnt that the Chairman, Lekki Residents’ Association, Kayode Otitoju, and his executive, partnered the Eti-Osa Local Government Council and the police to rid the community of motorcyclists, who allegedly had been committing all sorts of atrocities and sending shivers down the spines of the residents.

To make the clampdown effective, the guards were said to have participated in raiding the hideouts of miscreants dealing in illicit drugs and arrested some suspects, including porters and hawkers, whose operations were also banned in the area.

The arrested suspects were reportedly handed over to policemen attached to the Maroko Police Division.

Angered by the clampdown on their operations in the community, the motorcyclists reportedly regrouped, armed themselves with weapons and attacked some of the security guards, two of who were allegedly dealt machete blows till they lost consciousness.

Adamu, while speaking with Punch Metro, said he collapsed during the attack, adding that when a resident, who saw the assault on the guards, mobilised security operatives to the scene of the crime, the assailants fled.

He stated, “Around 9.16am on Friday, May 22, 2020, we were waiting at our duty post for our patrol vehicle to pick us so that we could commence work for the day when we suddenly saw over 50 Hausa boys on motorcycles with cutlasses, knives, sticks and electric wires.

“They pinned us down on the Road 15 of Zone 4 and attacked us. They stabbed me in the arm, back and stomach. When the attack on me got too much, I collapsed and it was at that point that they left me, because they thought I was dead.”

Another victim, Frank, who said he escaped death by a whisker, added that a resident, who saw the assailants attacking the guards, mobilised security operatives to come to their rescue, adding that the suspects took advantage of the situation to dispossess some residents of their valuables.

Frank stated, “Our responsibility is to ensure that porters, hawkers and people, who deal in illegal drugs, are not seen in the vicinity, especially the Lekki Zone 4. So, we became a problem for them, because whenever we apprehended any of them committing a crime, we would hand over such a person to the police and that was how we became their targets.

“Immediately two of my guys became unconscious, I saw as the boys were robbing them. They stole their iPhones, wallets and bags. They also stole my iPhone, Caleb’s iPhone 7s, N10,000 and a Tecno phone.”

Reacting to the incident, Otitoju said residents of the estate did not want motorcyclists in the area, adding that most of those who patronise them were not residents in Lekki Phase 1.

He stated that immediately the state government banned motorcycle operations in the state, the association acted to put an end to the motorcyclists’ operations, because it had been empowered by law, adding that the attack was a revenge mission to kill those, who were preventing their operations.

Otitoju said, ‘Until recently, over 1,500 motorcyclists were operating daily in the estate and they were dangerous and daring. They were made up of retired police and military personnel as well as Hausa/Fulani boys. But one week after the state government banned their operations, they were reduced to 150 and later 50. The residents do not want them, because they are mostly patronised by artisans and visitors, who don’t live here.

“As regards the attack, it was a revenge mission that brought the militant motorcyclists into Lekki to attack some of our security personnel in the line of duty in the Zone 4 area. They intended to kill; all the Divisional Police Officers under the Area ‘J’ Command have been informed and the Area Commander, ACP Gbolahan Olugbemi, commanded the DPO to reinforce the Maroko Police Station and move around Lekki in a show of force.

“Eighteen motorcyclists were arrested during the operation and 24 motorcycles were impounded. This was in addition to the arrest made by the DPO, Maroko Division, CSP Raji Ganiyu, during a raid on their hideouts. We have also compiled all the undeveloped plots where these people hibernate so that raids can be carried out on those locations.”

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, said, “From what we have gathered so far, the motorcyclists were angry with the security guards, because they supported the police in enforcing the ban on motorcycle operations in that vicinity.

“In the spirit of community policing, policemen work closely with private security guards in areas and the support we got from them helped in stopping the activities of motorcyclists there and that angered the motorcyclists and they came to attack some of the guards.

“But we responded swiftly, arrested 14 suspects and impounded 26 motorcycles used during the operation. The suspects will be charged. We have increased police presence in the area.”

Parents oppose plan to reopen Lagos schools

Some parents in Lagos State have kicked against the reopening of schools in view of the continued spread of the coronavirus in the country.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the parents said it was important for the Federal and state governments to continue to safeguard children from the pandemic.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Federal Government had said it was considering adopting morning and afternoon shifts of classes for reopening of schools.

One of the parents, Mrs Ayobami Ojo, urged the government to allow children to remain at home until containment of the pandemic.

“There is no need for morning and evening classes. Let the children continue to stay safe at home as the virus is increasing every day.

“Children will naturally not be as cautious as adults and schools cannot be compared to markets. Reopening of schools should be considered when confirmed cases drop very well,” Ojo said.

Also, a businesswoman, Mrs Abiodun Aina, who lives at Ayobo, said that children’s lives could be jeopardised when schools resume.

“It is difficult to control adults, let alone children, we should not risk the lives of children. A two-shift option for classes may not stop the spread of the virus. It is better for them to remain at home until COVID -19 subsides or a vaccine is found,” she said.

“Nigerians should stop putting pressure on government to reopen schools. Why are we in a rush? We need to be patient,” Aina said.

Innocent Man Charged To Court By Nigeria Police For Recording Bribery

Oluwatobi Odulate, a resident of Ogun State, has recounted his ordeal after being arrested and charged to court for refusing to give bribe to some vigilante cadet at an illegal roadblock in the state.

SR had reported how Odulate, who was on a motorcycle as a passenger, was arrested after the rider of the motorcycle was detained by the vigilante cadets for refusing to pay N500 as a bribe.

Odulate did a live video recording of the incident on his Facebook wall, an act that infuriated the vigilantes, who held him and dragged him to the police station.

He was detained at the Igbobi Police Station before he was arraigned at the Sagamu Magistrate Court.

Speaking with SaharaReporters after he was granted bail, Odulate said the vigilante group wanted the police to detain him perpetually for recording them.

He also said that he was denied the right to call his family and lawyer until the day of his second appearance in the court.

He said, “I went to collect all my properties, my phone and the bike we were riding. On getting there, they just threw us inside the cell and took us to court very early on Monday.

“I was remanded on Thursday evening and from then to 7am on Monday when we were taken to court, they denied me access to make any phone call.

“I was arraigned at Sagamu Magistrate Court and they did not allow anybody to enter the courtroom. It was shrouded in complete secrecy.

“On Friday, when we first appeared in court, they came with their lawyer and witness while I didn’t have anybody to speak for me.

“They did not allow me to make calls. The police said it was an overnight case so they took us to court with no option of calling anybody.

“The charges are that we assaulted them, which was a lie. They also charged me for recording video and posting the video online to breach the peace."

He revealed that he was pestered to do another video on his Facebook wall denouncing the initial video, which he declined.

He added, “Because it happened in my local government, and for the swift intervention of my family, they were able to secure my bail and the two other persons arrested with me would have been in jail by now.”

Odulate was granted bail by the magistrate and asked to provide a surety with each.

The surety must submit to the court Ogun State tax clearance, receipt of any property worth N50,000 and national ID card or voters card.
