In his reaction, Burna tweeted at Rema: “I’m so happy I had to come back on Twitter for 2mins. Big up @heisrema for real bro. You really made my day. I dey for you Officially”

Burna Boy, who is known for his blunt relationship with Twitter users quoted one of Rema’s tweets in which he talked about his brother’s death and fake love, “It’s not too often (probably never) that an artist from Nigeria says something so real that a ni**a like me can relate to,” Burna said. “You are one of the last of a dying breed. Don’t ever let them break you or change you.”

Earlier today, Rema tweeted that people don’t want to see a kid win, adding that they feel he “got it too easy”. Rema gained prominence with the song “Iron Man” which was featured on former US president Barack Obama’s 2019 summer playlist just barely five months after signing a record deal. “I shower with my sweat, we go off on this side like the days in BENIN it got nun to do with my deal, come and sign these papers without a hustler spirit, you gone lose! Management gone change my password now lol,” he tweeted.

Burna Boy said that Rema’s revelations warmed his heart, adding that the 20-year-old is a “real ni**a”:

Responding to a now-deleted tweet, Burna Boy said Rema was one of the artistes he mentions when asked for new artists to look out for: “Since I heard his music His name has been one of the names I have mentioned when asked what new artists to look out for. Check my interviews.”

New York restaurant guests dine in ‘Bubbles’ to maintain social distance

Café du Soleil, a French restaurant on Manhattan’s Upper West Side has set up plastic bubbles on its sidewalk to protect customers from the spread of coronavirus and as well as shelter them from cold and rain.

Valerie Worthy, who came to the cafe with her two coworkers after seeing a story about the “space bubbles” on local TV channel NY1 told Reuters said it is one of the best experienced: “Well, I can tell you that with everything going on in this world, eating in a bubble is about one of the best experiences we can have. So, I mean, look at it. They have everything safe, clean. Everything is six feet apart. Love it.”

Cafe Du Soleil owner, Alain Chevreux, who bought the cafe 15 years ago, found the bubbles on the internet in July, when he was trying to figure out how to stay in business when the weather shifts to cold, together with the changing seasons.

According to Chevreux, each bubble costs $400 (₦152,200), but they are well worth the investment, he told Reuters.

“These bubbles can sit up to six people,” said Chevreux. “Families love it. Kids love it. Friends who want to get together love it. As a matter of fact, it was raining couple of weeks ago, midweek, pouring, raining. Everybody that was inside those bubbles were having a blast.”

Just like all other restaurants in the city, Cafe Du Soleil took a hit from the coronavirus lockdown. Outdoor dining became its saving grace.

Restaurants will be able able to reopen for indoor dining at 25% capacity on Wednesday (September 30). But Chevreux said it’s not enough for his restaurant to survive. In the meantime, on Friday (September 25), New York City’s Mayor Bill De Blasio made New York City’s outdoor dining permanent and “year-round.”

But Chevreux said he is not sure how long into the winter he can use the bubbles.

“When the weather gets very cold, you can have as many bubbles as you have, but I’m not sure it’s gonna do the trick,” he said.

In the meantime, New York resident Sylvia Gonzalez enjoyed eating in one.

“When I saw it, as soon as I came in, I said, wait a minute, it looks like Cinderella’s carriage,” Gonzalez said while eating dinner with her friend, Blanca Morales and granddaughter, Angelina Gonzalez. “It’s beautiful. I like it. I like it. It’s very… quiet. It’s comfy. Really nice.”

“You feel like you have your own space,” added Blanca Morales, who said the bubble made her feel safe from coronavirus. “And you’re not being cluttered with other people, crowded, very, like, individual, you know? Like she said, I’m waiting for my prince to get here.”

Rema rants on Twitter, addresses critics and music style

Barely minutes after announcing his 100 million streams milestone Audiomack, Rema went on a rage Kanye West style on his Twitter page.

In the emotional outpour, the 20-year-old singer-songwriter touched a number of issues from critics, management, the girl who rejected him, his first engineer who ran away, ‘Iron Man’ and producer, Ozedikus.

Born Divine Ikubor, Rema gained prominence with the song “Iron Man” which was featured on former US president Barack Obama’s 2019 summer playlist just barely five months after signing a record deal.

“Ni**as don’t wanna see a kid win, they feel I got it too easy,” he tweeted. “I shower with my sweat, we go off on this side like the days in BENIN it got nun to do with my deal, come and sign these papers without a hustler spirit, you gone lose! Management gone change my password now lol.

“I climbed this cliff with bunch of rejected beats. Some niggas hate me because of that. When we in the same room together don’t label me proud or rude because I don’t smile, talk or laugh to your jokes.”

Elsewhere, he addressed critics of his music style: “Niggas label my music rubbish because I infuse my Edo language. Because I didn’t follow the usual guidelines to music, because I hacked Afrobeats with God given melodies, they called it ‘Indian’ because they DO NOT UNDERSTAND ME. I’m not of this world, know this now!”

Rema thanked Obama for “seeing what I saw in Ironman” adding that a lot of people “couldn’t”. He revealed that he was 18 years old when he made the song whose beat has “6 sounds.” Rema bragged that he will give “that simple beat” to half of the industry and he wouldn’t get a record “as strong as IRONMAN”.

“Ni**as feel I’m disrespectful, they want me to alert them before I drop,” Rema tweeted. Adding that he had made millions before the fame. “Let no man feel this money changing me.”

The “Dumebi” singer was discovered by Don Jazzy’s biological brother, D’Prince, who told him he was the “chosen one”.

“I told D’prince sir I’m making money where I’m at I think I’m good. D’prince said to me stop what you’re doing and come to me boy ‘you’re the chosen one’, this music shit is gonna pay if you trust me!

“I done did Melodies that never existed in this world, go listen to my records. I swear them engineers thought I was crazy when I say turn off the auto tune.”

He took a shot at an unnamed girl who had rejected him before he became famous: “To the girl who rejected me before this fame, I’m eating the royalties off this pain. (WHY)”

“Ozedikus took risks for me, he was under a management with guidelines. He sneaked beats to me so I could record when my first engineer left me because we couldn’t pay him at the time. All the beats Ozedikus sneaked are now HITS.”

Rema also revealed he stole a laptop from someone named Eric in 2017. “Eric, Sorry I stole your Laptop in 2017, I know you were trying to help me. My Mom had a child on the way, I was the only man in my family. They made fun of her because she got pregnant, I wanted to prove them wrong bro, I had to do it.”

The “Iron Man” singer also spoke about losing his brother, saying people only love him because he has something to offer: “When my late brother did house parties y’all came, when he died only 2 friends stood beside his death bed. That’s why I’m not comfortable around people, they love me because I have something to offer, You know yourselves don’t let me catch you!!!”

After unfollowing his fellow ex-housemates Nengi and Dorathy for labeling him dirty, billionaire son Kiddwaya has unfollowed Vee and Neo as well.

Recall Nengi in a discussion with Dorathy said she can never fall in love with a guy like Kiddwaya because he’s dirty as he didn’t keep himself well while in the house.

Kiddwaya furiously unfollowed them both because of that but a recent check on his Instagram page shows he has unfollowed Neo and Vee too.

His reasons for unfollowing these two aren’t known but it appears he has unfollowed all the finalist with the exception of Laycon the winner.

Present cracks may lead to Nigeria’s break-up - Osinbajo

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo has said Nigeria may break up if efforts are not made to address the cracks.

He said efforts to mend the crack might be opposed, but such opposition would be defeated with focus and consistent prayers.

Osinbajo gave the warning on Sunday in Abuja at an interdenominational church service to commemorate Nigeria’s 60th Independence anniversary, Punch reports.

The Vice-President was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, at the National Ecumenical Centre, where the anniversary service was held.

In attendance were representatives of the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila; Head of Service of the Federation, Folashade Yemi- Esan; permanent secretaries, military officials, members of the diplomatic community and other senior government officials.

Referencing the biblical story of how Nehemiah championed the rebuilding of the broken walls of Jerusalem, Osinbajo said, “The story should be a challenge to every Christian in Nigeria. It’s only that kind of Nehemiah’s love that will make us, as Nigerians, to rebuild the cracks we have in our walls today.

“For us in Nigeria, Nehemiah should be taken as a metaphor for those Nigerians who either reside in Nigeria or outside, to cry to God to use the abandoned opportunities in Nigeria to address our challenges of nation-building.

“Fortunately for us, our walls are not yet broken, but there are apparent cracks that could lead to a break if not adequately addressed.

“Nehemiah started with fervent prayers, seeking the face of God and pleaded with his king to allow him to return to Jerusalem to rebuild the broken walls because the wall signifies peace, security, contentment and prosperity. It represents the essence of the state of the nation.

“There’s an urgent need for a Nehemiah in our country, Nigeria, today. And like Nehemiah faced opposition in his efforts to rebuild the walls, any Nigerian that desires to rebuild Nigeria must also be ready to face stiffer opposition which will come in torrents. It can only be diffused by consistent focus and prayers.”

The Vice-President, however, expressed optimism that the 60th Independence anniversary could herald a rebirth in Nigeria, saying “no group is more prepared for this task than our religious bodies.”

Blasphemy: Polish, 119 others offer to serve 10-year jail term for Kano boy

Dr Piotr Cywiński, the Director of the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum in Warsaw, Poland, says he and 119 other volunteers across the world are offering to be jailed in exchange for the release of a teenager imprisoned for blasphemy in Kano State.

The museum is on the site of the Auschwitz concentration camp in Oświęcim, Poland. It is a research centre in memory of the 1.1 million people, including 960,000 Jews, who died there during World War II and the Holocaust. Data showed that the museum attracted around 2.9 million visitors in 2019.

In an appeal letter that he wrote to President Buhari, Cywiński, a 48-year-old historian and ecumenist, said he and the 119 others were offering to each serve a month in a Nigerian prison for Omar Farouq, whom a Sharia court in Kano State in August sentenced to 120 months in jail for blasphemy during a conversation with his friend.

Farouq’s jailing has generated concerns from many Nigerians and human rights organisations.

In his letter dated September 25, 2020, Cywiński asked Buhari to pardon Farouq as he (Farouq) could not be treated as fully aware and responsible for his utterances, given his age.

The Polish historian also offered to sponsor Farouq’s education should Buhari pardon him.

He wrote, “As the director of the Auschwitz Memorial, that commemorates the victims and preserves the remains of the German Nazi concentration and extermination camp, where children were imprisoned and murdered, I cannot remain indifferent to this disgraceful sentence for humanity.

“I wish to request the pardon of this 13-year-old boy. Regardless of what he said, he cannot be treated as fully aware and responsible, given his age. He should not be subjected to the loss of the entirety of his youth, be deprived of opportunities, and stigmatised physically, emotionally, and educationally for the rest of his life. I am convinced that the authority you possess can still undo this sentence.

“However, if it turns out that the words of this child absolutely require 120 months of imprisonment, and even you are not able to change that, I suggest that in place of the child, 120 adult volunteers from all over the world, gathered by us – myself personally among them – should each serve a month in a Nigerian prison. In total, the price for the child’s transgression will be the same, and we will all avoid the worst.

“If you agree to grant clemency, or to the above proposal in lieu of punishment, I will make an attempt to provide financial help for the boy’s proper education. This way, instead of a destroyed young man, Nigeria will gain an aware and educated young citizen.”

Cywiński asked Buhari to consider his proposal “favourably”, saying, “You will undoubtedly agree with the statement that human rights begin with the rights of the child.”

“I remain hopeful that this issue will be quickly resolved according to 21st century standards,” he added.

The teenager’s sentence came some weeks after a 22-year-old singer, Yahaya Sharif-Aminu, was also in Kano State sentenced to death by hanging for blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad.

Lab technician goes missing while visiting sick father

A Lagos-based laboratory technician, Daniel Eniayeju, has gone missing while on the way to visit his sick father in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Punch Metro learnt that the 25-year-old Osun State indigene left his place of residence on the Ago Palace Way area of Lagos State on September 11, 2020, but never got to his destination.

His whereabouts have since been shrouded in mystery.

Daniel’s uncle, Lawal Taiye, who told Punch that he heard last from the victim around 9am on the day of the incident, said all efforts to find him had so far proved abortive.

He said, “I spoke to him on Saturday, September 11, 2020, around 9am and he told me that he was on his way to Ibadan to see his sick father. I told him to have a safe trip. The following day, his sister called me that he had not been picking his calls, I told her to not worry that maybe it was a network issue and asked her to call him later.

“We got a call from his place of work in FESTAC Town on Monday that they had not seen Daniel at work and were wondering if he was okay; that was when we suspected that something might have gone wrong. I called his dad and he told me that Daniel never got to Ibadan.

“We have reported to several police stations in Lagos. I even went to the police headquarters at Ikeja to report the case. We have continued our search and are praying to God that he will be found alive and well.”

Confusion in Oyo community as okada rider commits suicide

A 22-year-old man, Ayuba Sarafa, has reportedly committed suicide at the Amuloko area of Ibadan in the Ona Ara Local Government Area of Oyo State.

Ayuba, a commercial motorcyclist, was said to have hung himself in an uncompleted building beside his uncle’s house on Friday.

It was gathered that the young man was the only son of his late father.

His mother, Nike, who later came to the scene of the incident, wept uncontrollably, as she alleged that Ayuba was manipulated to commit suicide by evil forces.

Ayuba’s uncle, Mr Kazeem Tijani, said he became jittery that having left home since Thursday morning, he had not set his eyes on the Okada rider by bedtime.

“We called his phone and monitored the place where the phone was ringing. It was traced to the uncompleted building, where he was found hanging. The mobile telephone was in his pocket,” Kazeem said.

Two black plastic bags were seen on the floor with his pair of sandals.

An eyewitness, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said items found in the bags were a white garment, two bottles of perfume, a new white singlet, chin-chin, biscuits and other personal effects as well as a white handkerchief used as a face mask.

Kazeem said, “Ayuba got the motorcycle on hired purchase basis and was paying regularly. He was not known to be indebted to anyone and he was not starving. He was not married. He had been living with me for the past two to three years. He was working with me before he got the motorcycle.

“We searched his room, but we could not find any suicide note. I have called our family members at Apomu.”

The Chairman, Association of Commercial Bike Riders in Amuloko area, Mr Oluwatosin James, described Ayuba as a cool-headed and easygoing person.

James stated, “The news of Ayuba’s death came to us as a rude shock. We heard of the news at the park. He was very reticent and would not fight anybody.

“Once he operated his okada in the morning, he would go and park, and go to his uncle’s shop to assist him. He got the motorcycle on instalments for N390,000 and had almost completed payment as the balance remains just N77,000.

“There was no known issue of threat to him; so, we are confused over this sad incident.”

As of the time of filing this report, it was learnt that traditional worshippers were making arrangements to perform rituals before Ayuba’s corpse could be brought down from where he hung.

Rohr reacts as Cote d’Ivoire pulls out of Super Eagles’ friendly

Head coach of the Super Eagles, Gernot Rohr, has admitted he is disappointed that Cote d’Ivoire has withdrawn from next month’s friendly match.

Rohr, speaking to NationSport, however, noted that their replacement, Algeria is a worthy opponent.

The Elephants were initially scheduled to face Nigeria on October 9 in Austria.

But the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) confirmed last week that their West African neighbours pulled out of the encounter due to internal problems.

“Of course, we have Algeria now but I regretted that we are not going to play Cote d’Ivoire again because we had planned to play at least a game against a Black African team.

“But now we have to play against two Maghreb teams; unfortunately we don’t have Maghreb teams not for the AFCON qualifiers and not for the Qatar 2022 World Cup too.

“But it’s okay because it was very difficult (to get a replacement) in the last moments to replace the Ivory Coast team,” Rohr said.

Again, Wike, Amaechi openly exchange words

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, and his predecessor, Rotimi Amaechi, on Saturday engaged in a verbal fight at the burial of a former Justice of the Supreme Court, Adolphus Karibi-Whyte, in the Abonnema, Akuku-Toru Local Government Area of the state.

Amaechi, who is the Minister of Transportation, while speaking at the funeral service, lamented what he term the rising insecurity and political intimidation in the state, saying the state was back to the time of Ateke Tom, a former militant leader, who is now the traditional head of Okochiri town in Okrika LGA of the state.

“You have lost your voice. The sage (the late justice) has gone under and nobody is speaking. When I was governor, I gave people voices, but they have blocked those voices.

“Everyone is scared. We are going back to when Ateke held sway. We are going back to the period where we run away from our people. We are back to a period when nobody could speak. But from next year, I will begin to speak, if nobody wants to speak.

“We are all here because we need to bury a man God has blessed. I have stopped travelling because of bad weather, but I told myself I must be here because of Justice Whyte.

“If you knew Justice (Karibi-Whyte) very well, you will know I was close to him. I was one of the few people he mentored,” Amaechi stated.

Wike on his part described the late Karibi-Whyte as an epitome of unshakable integrity, civility and dignity, but noted that comments credited to Amaechi were embarrassing.

Responding to Amaechi, Wike who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Chief Emeka Woke, said the minister had lost touch with developments in the state, adding that since the launching of Operation Sting by his administration, the security situation had improved greatly.

Wike said, “It is unfortunate for Amaechi to come to Kalabari land and accuse former President Goodluck Jonathan of not developing the area six years after he had left office.

“I wonder why the former governor will choose to make such embarrassing remarks at the funeral of late Justice Karibi-Whyte, a man he (Amaechi) claimed to be his mentor.”
