Two police officers are forced to apologise after they were caught kissing in patrol car

Two police officers have been forced to apologise after they were caught kissing in a patrol car at a Tesco supermarket.

One witness said they saw the officers kissing for 20 minutes in the carpark in Blackburn, Lancashire.

The witness said the female officer then got out and walked round to the driver's side to continue smooching through the window.

One man who saw them was so stunned that he began filming the interaction.

He said of the incident in a Tesco car park off Carl Fogarty Way: 'I was sat with my friend in the car park, I'd gone to fix my car.

'After we were done we were just parked in the supermarket car park having a little break.

'My friend noticed the police officer in his mirror and saw that a woman had got into his car. It just didn't feel right.'

He said the pair were initially in their own cars - the male officer in a liveried police car and the woman in an unmarked car on Good Friday.

While he was on-duty it appears she was not working at the time of the incident, although is an officer with the Lancashire force.

The witness went on: 'Initially they were in their own cars. They pulled up next to each other and were talking from car to car. She then got out and got into his car.

'They were kissing in the car - their faces were colliding. They were sat in the car for about 20 minutes.

'This is an on-duty police officer sitting in a car for 20 minutes doing b***** all.

'It annoyed me. People were walking past and taking a double look into the vehicle and thinking ''Is that really happening?'' They were laughing and joking and kissing. I don't think they should be doing it on police time, even if he was on his lunch break it looks bad.'

And he added: 'They were there for a long time - all in all about an hour if not longer. That's what made me think it couldn't be a lunch break.

'It's a big town, there will be a lot going on, enough for them to do. People are getting burgled and they don't bother going out to them.'

A spokesman for Lancashire Police described it as an 'isolated incident.'

A spokesman said: 'Lancashire Constabulary appreciates the impact social media videos can have on public confidence.

'This was an isolated incident involving one off duty and one on duty police officer.

'The officers have since been spoken to and apologised for their conduct and understand how this may have been interpreted, the matter is now closed.'

Jose Mourinho offers sarcastic response as he breaks silence over Tottenham sacking

Jose Mourinho has spoken out for the first time since he was sacked by Tottenham.

The Portuguese manager was dismissed by Spurs on Monday morning following their 2-2 draw with Everton on Friday evening.

The stalemate at Goodison Park leaves Tottenham seventh in the Premier League, with only faint hopes of a top-four finish.

Mourinho's underwhelming 17-month spell in north London raises serious questions of whether he is still the world-beating coach he once was, as he departs without a trophy to his name.

But the 58-year-old pointed out he is still the subject of as much interest as ever with a video posted on his Instagram account.

"They don't give me privacy," said Mourinho as he filmed the flock of cameras and reporters outside his home. "Even my friend Gary [Sky Sports' Gary Cotterill] is disturbing me. That's my life."

Moments later, Mourinho was quizzed on whether he had any comments regarding his departure and told Sky Sports : "You know me, you know that I'm not going to say anything."

Asked whether fans will see him in the dugout again soon, or if he needed a chance to recharge his batteries, he responded: "No need. No need for breaks and batteries."

Mourinho added: "I'm always in football."

Varsity student, Rhoda Agboje arrested for selling drugged cookies to schoolchildren

Rhoda Agboje, a 300-level university student has been arrested in Abuja for selling drugged cookies to schoolchildren and other members of the public.

Her boyfriend, Ifeanyi Nwankwo was also arrested by the FCT Command of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA.

The two suspects specialise in producing and selling drugged cookies in Abuja

NDLEA Spokesman, Femi Babafemi, said NDLEA operatives have launched a manhunt for a third member of the gang.

They produce cookies laced with Arizona, a highly psychoactive variant of cannabis, alcohol, and Rohypnol among other ingredients.

“Their lid was blown open following the arrest of Rhoda Agboje with four pieces of the drug cookies on Sunday, April 18, 2021″, Babafemi said.

“She was arrested at the NNPC Cooperative estate, opposite Gaduwa estate in Abuja based on a complaint that she gave an unsuspecting young girl the cookies to eat. After eating the drug cookies, the girl lost her mind and could not sleep, making incoherent utterances due to the effects of the cookies.”

“The suspect confirmed that she sells at parties and to unsuspecting members of the public, including school children that are the most vulnerable. The suspect also supplies some supermarkets and clubs in the FCT,” Babafemi said in a statement.

Newly re-elected Chad’s president Idriss Deby is dead

Chad’s President Idriss Deby Itno has died on the battlefield after three decades in power, the army announced on state television on Tuesday.

The shock announcement came only the day after the 68-year-old was proclaimed the winner of a presidential election that had given him a sixth term in office.

The army said Deby had been commanding his army at the weekend as it battled against rebels who had launched a major incursion into the north of the country on election day.

Deby “has just breathed his last breath defending the sovereign nation on the battlefield,” army spokesman General Azem Bermandoa Agouna said in a statement read out on state television.

Deby, 68, had ruled Chad with an iron fist for three decades but was a key ally in the West’s anti-jihadist campaign in the troubled Sahel region.

The army said a military council led by the late president’s 37-year-old son Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno, a four-star general, would replace him.

On Monday, the army had claimed a “great victory” in its battle against the rebels from neighbouring Libya, saying it had killed 300 fighters, with the loss of five soldiers in its own ranks during eight days of combat.

Deby would have been one of the longest-serving leaders in the world, after provisional results showed him winning the April 11 election.

He was a herder’s son from the Zaghawa ethnic group who took the classic path to power through the army, and relished the military culture.

His latest election victory — with almost 80 percent of the vote — had never been in doubt, with a divided opposition, boycott calls, and a campaign in which demonstrations were banned or dispersed.

Deby had campaigned on a promise of bringing peace and security to the region, but his pledges were undermined by the rebel incursion.

The government had sought Monday to assure concerned residents that the offensive was over.

There had been panic in some areas of N’Djamena on Monday after tanks were deployed along the city’s main roads, an AFP journalist reported.

The tanks were later withdrawn apart from a perimeter around the president’s office, which is under heavy security during normal times.

“The establishment of a security deployment in certain areas of the capital seems to have been misunderstood,” government spokesman Cherif Mahamat Zene had said on Twitter on Monday.

“There is no particular threat to fear.”

However, the US embassy in N’Djamena had on Saturday ordered non-essential personnel to leave the country, warning of possible violence in the capital. Britain also urged its nationals to leave.

France’s embassy said in an advisory to its nationals in Chad that the deployment was a precaution and there was no specific threat to the capital.

The rebel raid in the provinces of Tibesti and Kanem was carried out by the Front for Change and Concord in Chad (FACT), based in Libya.

The group has a non-aggression pact with Khalifa Haftar, a military strongman who controls much of Libya’s east.

FACT, a group mainly made up of the Saharan Goran people, said in a statement Sunday that it had “liberated” the Kanem region. Such claims in remote desert combat zones are difficult to verify.

The Tibesti mountains near the Libyan frontier frequently see fighting between rebels and the army, as well as in the northeast bordering Sudan. French air strikes were needed to stop an incursion there in February 2019.

In February 2008, a rebel assault reached the gates of the presidential palace before being pushed back with French backing.

Former US Vice President Walter Mondale dies at 93

Walter Mondale, a leading liberal Democratic voice of the late 20th century who was U.S. vice president under Jimmy Carter and lost in a landslide to Ronald Reagan in the 1984 presidential election, died on Monday at age 93, his family said.

"Well my time has come. I am eager to rejoin Joan and Eleanor," Mondale said in a statement to his staff and released to the public after his death, referring to his late wife Joan, who died in 2014, and daughter Eleanor, who died in 2011 at age 51. "Before I go I wanted to let you know how much you mean to me."

Mondale, the first major U.S. party presidential nominee to pick a woman running mate, believed in an activist government and worked for civil rights, school integration, consumer protection and farm and labor interests as a U.S. senator and vice president during Carter's troubled one-term presidency from 1977 to 1981.

He also served as U.S. ambassador to Japan from 1993 to 1996 under Bill Clinton.

144 Nigerian policemen arrive Somalia to provide security

The Africa Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) has announced the arrival of a contingent of 144 policemen and women from Nigeria to boost stabilisation efforts.

The officers, including women, quietly departed Nigeria at the weekend.

They have Samuel Ita as the commander.

AMISOM Police operations coordinator Daniel Ali Gwambal said 30 of the police officers will serve under the AMISOM for one year.

They will be deployed to Beletweyne in HirShabelle State.

The rest will serve in various roles in the capital, Mogadishu.

“They are here in order to fulfil the mandate of AMISOM with regards to operational support to the Somalis and at the same time to mentor the Somali Police Force (SPF),” Gwambal said in a statement issued in Mogadishu.

“There are certain specific duties that are also incumbent on them to perform while they are here such as regular patrols at checkpoints, guard static duties and other duties that involve general policing,” he added.

Gwambal said the officers will work on providing VIP escort and protection services, training and assisting the SPF in public order management.

They will also conduct joint patrols with their Somali counterparts and secure key government installations and high-level events.

The AU mission said the arrival of the Nigerian contingent is a major boost to law and order efforts, as they will be working in concert with their Somali counterparts in ensuring improved security in liberated areas.

The commander of the newly deployed unit, Samuel Ita, said his officers were eager to begin discharging their duties, to help advance the mission’s mandate.

ALGON denies endorsing Bayo Adelabu for 2023 elections

Members of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), Oyo state wing have refuted the claim that they had placed their weight behind the 2023 governorship ambition of Adebayo Adelabu.

In a statement today by ALGON Oyo state Chairman, Prince Abass Aleshinloye stated that the information going around that the Association has declared support for Chief Adebayo Adelabu’s 2023 gubernatorial ambition is false.

Aleshinloye said that individual preference and personal leanings should not be mixed up with the official standing of the association.

He also opined that there was nothing bad in honouring invitation from party members.

The statement read: “My attention has been drawn to a recent online publication in which Oyo ALGON was said to have endorsed a particular candidate.

“This is not true as individual interest cannot be ascribed to be the official position of ALGON as a body.

“There is nothing bad in honouring invitation from any party member/leader, but there is a need to be careful not to be quoted out of context at this period.

“The action of the journalist to misrepresent the opinion of the individual chairman or some chairmen attending a programme to be the official position of ALGON as a body is unfair and condemnable.

”Once again, ALGON has not endorsed any politician for any political office, more so, INEC has not issued a time table for political activities and our party, APC has also not done so”.

No petrol price increase in May, NNPC says

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) says it will not increase the ex-depot price of Premium Motor spirit also known as petrol in May.

The Group Managing Director, Malam Mele Kyari, made this known at the end of a closed door meeting with Petroleum Transport Drivers (PTD), National Association of Road Transporters Owners (NARTO) and oil marketers in Abuja on Monday.

Ex-depot price is the price marketers buy products from depot owners; it determines the pump price at filling stations.

He said: “We want to inform oil marketing companies that NNPC will not increase the pump price of PMS in May.

“I am giving the assurance and I ask Nigerians to go about their normal businesses; we have over 20 billion litres of petrol in our custody.

“Many of you are aware of this and with the assurance with tanker drivers and NUPENG, there is no need for panic buying of the product.

“Petrol will be available in all the depots in the country including NNPC dispatched depot across the country, so nobody should panic in buying the product,” he said.

Ekiti monarch’s abductors demand N20m ransom, anxiety grips family

The family of the Obadu of Ilemeso Ekiti in the Oye Local Government Area of Ekiti State, Oba David Oyewumi, and the people of the community are anxious to secure the release of the monarch from the den of kidnappers, where he has been since last Thursday.

Family sources, who said on Monday that the kidnappers contacted them on Saturday and demanded N20m before the monarch could be let off the hook, added that the family members were anxious to have him back in good condition.

The monarch was kidnapped last Thursday from his palace by six gunmen, who scaled the fence, shot indiscriminately and ransacked the palace before they whisked Oba Oyewumi away.

One of the sources said, “The kidnappers contacted the family around 7pm on Saturday and demanded that we pay the sum of N20m for the king to be released. They called with Kabiyesi’s phone and the phone has been switched off since then.

“We are really worried by this demand. We are anxious to have Kabiyesi return here hale and hearty. The family is taking further steps to ensure that he is released as soon as possible.”

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Sunday Abutu, who said the police and other security agencies were making frantic efforts to rescue the monarch from captivity, stated, “We are taking all security measures to ensure that we rescue the Oba. We are not resting at all.

“We are working with other sister agencies in this regard and also working on the intelligence gathering that we have at our disposal. The police want to work more to prevent this kind of crime and we are relying on information from members of the public, because we work more on information that we found to be credible.

“We appeal to members of the public to help us with information. Let them report any strange face or suspected person to the police. We assure you that the police will protect the identities of such informants.”

Liverpool Striker, Mo Salah announced as new Egypt captain

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has been announced as the new captain of Egypt’s national team by head coach Hossam El-Badry.

The news was posted in a statement on the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) Facebook page. Senior players in the Egypt squad were asked about the decision and gave their full support.

El-Badry said that it was “vital to introduce more stability” to the national team, including on the leadership side.

He added that the main goal for EFA technical teams in the coming months is to ensure that Egypt qualifies for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Salah has been one of Liverpool’s most succesful players since joining in summer 2017. He helped the club secure a sixth Champions League title by scoring the opening goal in the final against Tottenham in 2019.
