The child, five, was told by Garret Anderson, 50: “We don’t wear pink. We don’t wear girls’ clothes,” a court heard.
Anderson, of Manchester, admitted striking the boy because he was against boys donning pink.
Neil Ronan, prosecuting, told Manchester Crown Court that the child fled from the guard and, after escaping to the toilet, vomited and “wet himself” over his punishment.
The Manchester Evening News reports that despite Anderson admitting assault, he received just a suspended prison sentence.
The court was told that Anderson told other people he’d struck the boy with his belt, before defending his actions, saying they were, “good, [as he] he won’t do it again.
“When I was younger, we got leathered with a belt.”
The child was left with a bruised hip after the assault.
Plus, he has been “emulating” his punishment to other kids, the court was told.
His lawyer, Miss Ashraf, said Anderson had pleaded guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm at the “very earliest opportunity” and gave cops a “full and frank admission”.
She said it was a “very unfortunate incident for all parties.”
Miss Ashraf asked the judge not to jail the man, saying: “He accepts it was wrong, and is genuinely remorseful for his actions.”
Judge Patrick Field pointed out that Anderson “works hard for a living”, and, “beating a child may well have been commonplace in the past. We both know it was.
“But, we don’t do it anymore Mr Anderson. Beating a child of that age with a belt is unacceptable.”
He told him that it was “nothing more than bullying behaviour that can cause a lot more than rather superficial bruises.”
His victim had been left “terrified and deeply upset”.
Anderson was handed a two-month jail sentence, suspended for 12 months.
