The officers, whose names were given as Assistant Superintendents of Customs, Sunday Ohiremen, and Sunday Omale, were killed by bandits along the Lokoja-Okene Road in Kogi State.
Another officer, who was injured during the attack, was moved from the scene of the incident to the Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja, for medical attention and has been discharged.
The Public Relations Officer of the command, Lomba Benjamin, disclosed this to Northern City News in Minna on Tuesday.
“Officers of the Nigeria Customs Service are only implementers of the Federal Government’s policies, hence we urge every Nigerian citizen aggrieved about losing their goods to engage the services of the court rather than resort to violence and killing of family men, who are the breadwinners of their families while serving their nation,” Benjamin said.
He explained that the Niger/Kogi Command of the NCS had been in close contact with the bereaved families.
He added, “We are pained by the sad development and share in the grief of losing fellow officers, colleagues, brothers, husbands, fathers and the likes. We will continue to work with other sister agencies in identifying the bandits involved in the attack on our officers and anyone found guilty will be made to face the full wrath of the law.
“The Customs Area Controller, Abba-Kassim Yusuf, has paid a condolence visit to the families of the bereaved and assured them that the management will do everything within its power to bring the perpetrators of the crime to justice.”
