They fell out in 2012 after Elton John criticised Madonna while being interviewed by Molly.
The footage was not supposed to have aired, as Elton believed he was off the record when he called Madonna a "fairground stripper" and a "nightmare".
He also said she had been "horrible" to Lady Gaga, who is the godmother to one of his sons.
But the interview was broadcast, which angered Elton who blamed Molly for the controversy his comments caused.
After seven years, Molly told the Herald Sun Confidential the former friends had a "lovely" conversation backstage before Elton's Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne.
He said: "It was just Elton and I, talking about the old days and our wonderful friendship."
'We talked about when we first met, all the things we've been through, and how important our friendship is."
He added he assured Elton the "interview thing" - which appeared to be referring to Elton's comments about Madonna - was not his fault.
Elton then made a speech on stage announcing their reconciliation.
He told the audience: "We've had tears, we've had laughter, but we've had a friendship that's lasted so long.
"I don't think anyone has done more for music in Australia than Molly Meldrum.
"Molly, I love you, I thank you dearly for everything you've done for me. Bless you."
