Simon Rivett-Carnac, 53, is believed to have died instantly from his injuries in picturesque Charlton, near Malmesbury, Wiltshire, according to reports.
It is thought the alarm was raised by the gardener while his shocked wife Sarah was just yards away inside the home.

Wiltshire Police said: "There are no suspicious circumstances in relation to this death."
The force has not confirmed whether of not Mr Rivett-Carnac had a licence for a shotgun.
