Gunmen kidnap daughters of late Oyo elder statesman, demand N100m ransom

Gunmen on Tuesday kidnapped two daughters of late Chief Emiola Adesina, Director of Sports in the Old Western Region in Ibadan, Oyo state.

A family source told reporters in Ibadan that the abductors are demanding a ransom of N100million.

Professor Tunji Olaopa, who is a close associate of the family, said the two daughters of Chief Emiola were kidnapped on Monday morning.

Olaopa, a former Permanent Secretary in the federal ministry of Communication in a short message made available to reporters on Tuesday, said the kidnapped victims were abducted along the Ife-Ibadan expressway.

Olaopa narrated that Omobola Adepoju and Abiola Olukotun who are daughters of Chief Emiola were kidnapped along the Ife-Ibadan Expressway in Ibadan.

He added that the kidnappers had contacted the family and have demanded the sum of one hundred million Naira from the family.

He said, “This is authentic, please. Pastor (Mrs.) Omobola Adepoju and Mrs Abiola Olukotun are daughters of late Chief Emiola Adesina, old Director of Sports, Western State of Nigeria and Proprietor of Subuola Nursery/Primary School in Ibadan, whose funeral was held a week ago.

“Omobola came in from Atlanta (USA) and was with her sister in her farm at a location on Ife road in Ibadan when they were both kidnapped yesterday. The kidnappers have called the family to demand N100million.”

When contacted, Police spokesman in the state, Mr. Olugbenga Fadeyi, confirmed the incident.
Fadeyi, in a telephone conversation with reporters, however added that the police were at the scene in order to rescue the kidnapped victims.

Fadeyi further said the combined security agencies consisting of police anti-kidnap team and SARS are at the bush searching for the kidnapped victims.

“Yes. I am aware. The police are at the scene to rescue the victims.

“The police, anti-kidnap, SARS, all of them are already at the scene searching for the kidnapped victims.

“They are there to ensure that the kidnapped victims are rescued. I can assure you of that,” he said.
