How 12 Coronavirus Patients Died Without Getting To Isolation In Lagos

The Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, has revealed that most Coronavirus patients died away from the approved isolation centre, including some who died while on their way to the hospital.

The commissioner for Health at a press briefing to give situation report on COVID19 in Lagos on Sunday said only two put of 14 coronavirus patients have died in the state’s isolation centre.

According to Prof. Akin Abayomi, those who died on their way to the hospital were avoiding the state’s isolation centre.


Abayomi had announced that an 83-year-old woman died of coronavirus in Lagos state on Sunday, bringing the total number of cases in the state to 14.

The commissioner said, “Out of the 14 fatalities we’ve had, only two of them have happened in our Infectious Disease Hospital, Yaba and these two are examples of cases that were presented to us in a very late stage where it is very little we could do to save their lives.

“Most of them have died either en route to the hospital or in private facilities where they have been trying to avoid coming to our isolation facilities.”

He added that early presentation of COVID-19 symptoms by patients would help provide the best opportunity for them to survive the infection.
