Landlord Who Has 18 Houses Asks Tenants To Stop Paying Rent Due To Coronavirus Hardship
Some humans are special. Mario Salerno, who has 18 apartment buildings in New York, has surprised his over 200 tenants by asking them not to stress about paying their monthly rent this April, following the effects of the coronavirus pandemic on their sources of income.
Just a few days after losing his job in March, a tenant Paul Gentile was throwing away trash outside his Brooklyn apartment building when he noticed a new sign hanging near the front door;
Many are excited about the gesture. Mr. Salerno said in an interview with journalists on Thursday that he did not care about losing his rental income in April, nor did he care to calculate the amount that he would not be collecting from his 80 apartments. He said he had about 200 to 300 tenants in total, but he feels concerned about people's plight and wants everyone to be ok this period.
