Why I Was Honest With Osinbajo- Maintain

Weeks ago, popular singer, Olu Maintain, was pictured and even videoed discussing with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo; and this made some Nigerians curious. In a recent interview with the singer, he disclosed some of the things he was discussing with the VP.

He said he told the vice president the reasons why the current administration was unpopular among Nigerians. “When I met with the Vice President last year, I told him specifically that one of the reasons their government was unpopular was because they had put anti-corruption at the forefront of their agenda. I told him that you cannot position yourself as a single-policy government. President Buhari is not the minister for corruption, instead he is the President of the nation, so education, finance, power, among other things, must be put in place and people have to see a measurable reflection of growth in the country, which has not been the case.

“Their excuse might be that the situation has degenerated to a level whereby before they can enact any form of policy, they have to clean the house but nobody said that it was going to be easy for them to fulfil the promises that they made during their campaign. When I was talking to the Vice President, he was looking at me strangely and said that we should have more of this kind of discussion often. I was just telling him about the way I felt,” he said.

While putting his two cents in the current state of the Nigerian music industry, the singer who has been in the game for over a decade, gave reasons why he would never criticise the new generation of singers. He said not all singers could be like Fela. “We have to understand that music is art and the definition of art is very subjective. Fela positioned himself to be known as an artiste that sang purely about the social ills in the society. That is not just what music is about; it is just a part of music.

“I am one of the very few artistes that would not criticise anybody that decides not to do that because you have to understand that entertainment makes you conscious about what is going wrong in the society. Also, it creates a temporary relief for you to be able to deal with what is going on and still live a fulfilled life. Any artiste that decides not to be positioned as a socially conscious singer should not be criticised,” Olu Maintain said.

Two Guests Arrainged For Incurring N453,000 Debts At Lagos Hotel

Two guests at a hotel in Oke-Odo, Sangotedo area of Lagos State, have been taken to a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court for allegedly incurring debts estimated at N453,000.

The suspects – Rasheed Olatunbosun, 37, and Adeniyi Adetoye, 27 were said to have checked into the hotel sometime in December 2018 with a woman, who is still at large.

City Round learnt that the trio had presented themselves at the hotel as company officials who came for a seminar in the area.

It was gathered that after spending about two weeks in the facility, the woman disappeared, leaving her colleagues behind.

When asked to pay the bill for the period, the two men reportedly claimed that the fleeing suspect was their boss and that she was supposed to settle the bill.

The hotel management invited the police and they were arrested and charged with fraud.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to them.

The presiding magistrate, Mrs F.M. Dalley, granted them bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties each in the like sum.

The case was adjourned till February 19, 2019 for mention.

How Lagos Monarch Died Just 19 Days Before His Coronation

In African societies, especially Yorubaland, coronation is a historic event that attracts guests from far and near. Such an occasion usually has in attendance the rich, the poor and the cream of the society who share cultural or familial lineage with the host community. The planning for the eventful ceremony is usually novel and elegant in order to make the D-Day a memorable one.

Like every new monarch, Oba Muritala Ogun-Oloko, the Olu of Iwaya – a busy community tucked in Lagos West – had moved preparations up a gear ahead of February 2, 2019 when he would be formally installed as “the number one citizen” of the populous neighbourhood.

He had bought seven different expensive clothes to wear on the day.

And it was going to be a dress per moment, The Punch learnt. Already, there were bookings for drinks, catering service, musical show and ‘Aso Ebi’ (a dress chosen as the general attire for guests) for hundreds of potential attendees.

With each passing day, Ogun-Oloko, his family, friends and council of chiefs became more exuberant and could not wait to witness the event. Suddenly, plans had to be halted on Monday, January 14, when the 75-year-old joined his ancestors barely three weeks to the occasion.

“It all started like a mere cough that Monday morning. He was given medications. But his health deteriorated and we decided to rush him to the hospital. He died on the way,” the late monarch’s first wife, Bisi said amidst sobs.

For about two minutes, the mother of eight could not continue the talk with The Punch. She was devastated. After much succour from sympathisers around her, she managed to pick herself up. She stifled her tears to resume the narration.

“He was supposed to wear seven different types of clothes that day. He had already bought four and given them to his tailor. On Saturday, two days before he died, one of the younger wives and I went to the market to buy three new clothes of 10 yards each. We bought them for about N400,000. We also bought souvenirs that we would share at the event.

“The following morning, I went to his room to inform him about the new clothes. He said he was relaxing and that he would look at them later. He called his tailor that day and asked me to give the clothes to him. The tailor came along with the four dresses he had already sown.”

The widow explained that she was sleeping after she had prayed that Monday morning when a child rushed to her room, informing her that the monarch was coughing and acting strangely.

She continued, “I hardly slept at night due to the stress of the preparation. After praying in the morning, I would go back to sleep. That Monday morning, while I was asleep, one of our children woke me up. He asked me to come and look at Kabiyesi (the monarch). It was around 11am. When I got to his room, he was coughing. He took some medications but there was no improvement. So I called one of his sons, Sola, on the phone and informed him about the situation. A nurse had already put him on a drip.

“Some minutes later, we decided to take him to the hospital, but he died on the way. I could not believe it. I thought he was sleeping and would soon wake up. I was expecting a miracle to happen. He was very humble and generous. He was my confidant and friend. We never expected this tragedy.”

Speaking further on the plans for the coronation, the distraught woman said her husband had invited a popular Fuji musician to entertain the guests – from within and outside the country – that would attend the occasion. The event was to hold near the palace and shop owners in the area had been notified ahead to honour the day by suspending commercial activities Bisi said. She also revealed her personal plans for the day.

She said, “We had ordered for customised clothes to be worn uniformly (Aso Ebi). We initially booked for 350 pieces (six yards each). When the demand kept increasing, we decided to make it 500 pieces. Kabiyesi had paid N2m deposit. The woman that was given the contract to supply the clothes was supposed to deliver them last Sunday, but she has not brought them because of the incident. We never knew the clothes would be used for his burial. Saheed Osupa (a Fuji musician) and Saint Janet were supposed to sing at the event. Kabiyesi had already paid for the concert. On my own, I had ordered for locally woven fabric (Aso-Oke) for my friends to complement the clothes and 17 bundles were ready.”

The Punch learnt that some days before his death, the monarch had installed some new chiefs, including Iyalode (a prominent chieftaincy title for women) that would work with him on the throne.

Ogun-Oloko, who had been the baale (chief) of the community for many years, was recently elevated to the class of a king by the Lagos State Government. The staff of office was presented to him by the state Commissioner for Local Government and Community Affairs, Mr Muslim Folami.

Following his official recognition as a monarch, he fixed February 2 for the coronation to cement his new status. And preparations commenced forthwith. But all efforts geared towards making the event historic went down the drain on Monday when he took his last breath.

The septuagenarian is survived by four wives, 36 children and grandchildren.

One of the children, Sola, who also doubled as the personal assistant to the monarch, shared the fond memories he had with his father during an interview with The Punch earlier in the week.

bought different expensive clothes to wear on that day. Unfortunately, he was buried with one of the clothes.”

He burst into tears.

“The Aso Ebi would be used for the 40th day prayer,” Sola stated, adding that the family was expecting guests from Canada and United Kingdom.

“Some of them called us to verify the news of Kabiyesi’s death. They were shocked,” he said, fighting back tears.

A sympathiser, Mrs Muslimat Ajetunmobi, described the late monarch as a good-hearted person whose generosity she would never forget.

“I am Kabiyesi’s friend’s daughter. He was a true father. For all the years I knew him, I never saw him angry. He was very generous with money. He was my family’s helper. His death is very painful,” she said.

A granddaughter of the deceased, Busola Abioye, described him as a loving and caring person who she would miss a lot.

She said, “I knew my grandpa to be a brave man and lover of people. He was a very accommodating father and did not discriminate. He was always ready to listen to people and assist them. I love him so much and will miss him a lot. I had so many memorable moments with him. We played and chatted together. At times, he might be angry but with just a smile, he would let go.”

In her own capacity, 27-year-old Abioye had so many plans for the day. She had invited her friends and made arrangements for snacks and drinks with which she would entertain her guests.

“I had informed those that would make ‘small chops’ (snacks) for me. The day the incident happened, I was at the bank to deposit money into the accounts of the people that would supply me souvenirs and clothes. It is so sad. I never expected it,” she added.

Why I Suspended CJN Onnoghen - President Buhari

Relyng on an order of a Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) which was asked to stay action on the case, President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday suspended the embattled Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen and immediately swore in an acting CJN.

He is Justice Ibrahim Tanko Mohammed, next in ranking at the Supreme Court.

The January 23, 2019 interim order directed Onnoghen to “step aside as the Chief Justice of Nigeria and the Chairman of the National Judicial Council over an allegation of contravening the provisions of the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act CAP C15 Laws of the Federation 2004 pending the determination of the Motion on Notice dated 10th Day of January 2019.”

It also mandated the President to “take all necessary measure to swear the most Senior Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria as Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria and Chairman National Judicial Council in order to prevent a vacuum in the judicial arm of government pending the determination of the motion on Notice.”

The motion ex parte filed by the Federal Government against Onnoghen. Attached to the motion, according to the CCT, were an affidavit of urgency and an affidavit in support of the motion by “one James Akpala, an investigator with the Code of Conduct Bureau for the Complainant/Applicant.”

Justice Mohammed was conveyed to the Presidential Villa at about 4:30pm in a black Mercedes Benz C240 with number plate GWA:900FA. Buhari,in a 20-paragraph speech soon after swearing in the acting CJN, decried “the drama around the trial of the Chief Justice of Nigeria,” which he said, “has challenged that pillar of justice in the perception of the ordinary man on the street.” He said government could not allow the situation to continue unabated.

His words: “A short while ago, I was served with an Order of the Code of Conduct Tribunal issued on Wednesday 23rd January 2019, directing the suspension of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Honourable Justice Walter Nkanu Samuel Onnoghen from office the pending final determination of the cases against him at the Code of Conduct Tribunal and several other fora relating to his alleged breach of the Code of Conduct for Public Officers.

“The nation has been gripped by the tragic realities of no less a personality than the Chief Justice of Nigeria himself becoming the accused person in a corruption trial since details of the petition against him by a Civil Society Organisation first became public about a fortnight ago.

“Although the allegations in the petition are grievous enough in themselves, the security agencies have since then traced other suspicious transactions running into millions of dollars to the CJN’s personal accounts, all undeclared or improperly declared as required by law.

“Perhaps more worrisome is the Chief Justice of Nigeria’s own written admission to the charges that he indeed failed to follow the spirit and letter of the law in declaring his assets, citing ’’mistake’’ and ’"forgetfulness,’’ which are totally unknown to our laws as defences in the circumstances of his case.

“One expected that with his moral authority so wounded by these serious charges of corruption, more so by his own written admission, Mr. Justice Walter Onnoghen would have acted swiftly to spare our Judicial Arm further disrepute by removing himself from superintending over it while his trial lasted.

“Unfortunately, he has not done so. Instead, the nation has been treated to the sordid spectacle of a judicial game of wits in which the Chief Justice of Nigeria and his legal team have made nonsense of the efforts of the Code of Conduct Tribunal to hear the allegation on merit and conclude the trial as quickly as possible considering the nature of the times in which we live.

“Whether deliberately or inadvertently, we have all seen the full weight of the Chief Justice of Nigeria descend on the tender head of one of the organs of justice under his control. There is simply no way the officers of that court, from the Chairman to the bailiffs, can pretend to be unaffected by the influence of the leader of the Judiciary.

“Not only the trial court, but others have been put on the spot. Practically, every other day since his trial commenced, the nation has witnessed various courts granting orders and counter-orders in favour of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, all of them characterised by an unholy alacrity between the time of filing, hearing and delivery of judgment in same.

“The real effect has been a stalling of the trial of Justice Onnoghen, helped along by lawyers who insist that these orders, whether right or wrong, are technically valid, and must be obeyed till an appellate court says otherwise. No doubt, that it is the proper interpretation, but is it the right disposition for our nation?

“Nigeria is a constitutional democracy and no one must be, or be seen to be, above the law. Unfortunately, the drama around the trial of the Chief Justice of Nigeria has challenged that pillar of justice in the perception of the ordinary man on the street.

For it is certain that no ordinary Nigerian can get the swift and special treatment Justice Onnoghen has enjoyed from his subordinates and privies in our Judicature.

“In the midst of all these distracting events, the essential question of whether the accused CJN actually has a case to answer has been lost in the squabble over the form and nature of his trial. This should not be so.

“If Justice cannot be done and clearly seen to be done, society itself is at risk of the most unimaginable chaos. As a government, we cannot stand by wailing and wringing our hands helplessly but give our full backing and support to those brave elements within the Judiciary who act forthrightly, irrespective of who is involved.

“As you are all aware, the fight against corruption is one of the tripods of policies promised to Nigerians by this administration.

Needless to say that it is an existential policy which must be given adequate attention and commitment by all the three arms of government. The efforts of the Executive will amount to nothing without the cooperation of the Legislature and especially the Judiciary.

“It is no secret that this government is dissatisfied with the alarming rate in which the Supreme Court of Nigeria under the oversight of Justice Walter Onnoghen has serially set free, persons accused of the most dire acts of corruption, often on mere technicalities, and after quite a number of them have been convicted by the trial and appellate courts.

“Since there is nothing the Executive Arm can do after the apex court of the land has spoken on any matter, several of these individuals walk free among us today, enjoying what are clearly the proceeds of the corruption which for so long has defeated the efforts of this nation to develop and prosper.

“It is against this background that I have received the Order of the Code of Conduct Tribunal directing me to suspend the Chief Justice pending final determination of the cases against him. It also explains why I am not only complying immediately, but with some degree of relief for the battered sensibilities of ordinary Nigerians whose patience must have become severely over-taxed by these anomalies.

“In line with this administration’s avowed respect for the Rule of Law, I have wholeheartedly obeyed the Order of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, dated 23rd Janu ary 2019.

“Accordingly, I hereby suspend the Honourable Mr. Justice Walter Nkanu Samuel Onnoghen, GCON, as the Chief Justice of Nigeria pending final determination of the case against him at the Code of Conduct Tribunal.

“In further compliance with the same Order of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, I hereby invite Honourable Justice Ibrahim Tanko Mohammed, JSC, being the next most Senior Justice in the Supreme Court, to come forward to take the Judicial Oath as Chief Justice of Nigeria in an Acting Capacity.

“Fellow Nigerians, we can only stand a chance to win the fight against corruption, and position our dear nation for accelerated development when we stand together to contend against it.”

New Minimum Wage: Labour Puts Workers Alert For Strike

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) yesterday directed its members to be ready to take appropriate actions should the National Assembly fail to ignore the Presidency by affirming N30,000 as the new national minimum wage at state and federal levels.

It said the National Assembly should uphold the recommendation of the tripartite committee which specified N30,000 as the new national minimum wage.

President of the congress, Comrade Ayuba Wabba, told reporters at the end of an emergency meeting of the Central Working Committee of the congress yesterday that the International Labour Organization (ILO) conventions guiding negotiations on minimum wage do not allow one party to change the figures agreed upon after negotiations.

The process of changing the figure agreed upon after negotiations, he said, must follow the same process of negotiations in accordance with international best practices and in accordance with ILO conventions.

He insisted that even the N30,000 agreed to by the tripartite committee was a compromise position for which labour should be commended as it is still less than 100 dollars if converted.

Wabba said: “This is the resolution that has just been adopted by a meeting of the Central Working Committee of the Nigeria Labour Congress. The meeting deliberated on a one-item agenda which is the issue of the transmission of the national minimum wage bill to the National Assembly.

“The meeting reviewed the whole situation, including the fact that what was agreed at the tripartite negotiation meeting of the review of the minimum wage was N30,000. It is actually out of place and out of procedure for that figure to be reduced to N27,000."

Shut Down Courts, Mass Protest... Ozekhome Calls For Action As Buhari Suspends CJN

A constitutional lawyer, Mike Ozekhome (SAN) has described the suspension of Justice Walter Onnoghen as totally illegal and unconstitutional.

Ozekhome in a statement on Friday he said the provisions of the constitution on appointment and removal of the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) was clear and was not followed by President Muhammadu Buhari.

“The provisions of section 292(2) of the 1999 Constitution are quite clear on how the CJN can be removed from office. Aside sections 153,158 and parts 1 and 2 of the 3rd schedule to the Constitution, which provide that a judicial officer can not be removed from office until he has first been tried and dealt with by the National Judicial Council (NJC), Section 292(2) makes it clear that the president can only remove the CJN from office before the age of his retirement when 'acting on an address supported by two-thirds majority of the Senate'. When did the Senate meet to donate this power to the president?” Ozekhome asked.

He said Nigerians “should brace up, come out enmasse, to protest against this illegality."

He also said Nigerian lawyers and the NBA (Nigeria Bar Association) should shut down all courts in the country until the CJN is returned to his seat.

He said this was achieved even under military dictatorship in Pakistan, when former Pakistani president, Pervez Musharraf illegally removed from office the then Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry on 11th March, 2007.

“All the lawyers went on strike, from 15th March, 2007, shut down the courts and protested on the streets for months, until a panel of 7 members of the Supreme Court sat and held that the removal was illegal and reinstated the Chief Justice."

He said the “NASS (National Assembly) should also shut down in protest."

The suspect was said to have pretended to have gone to
buy clothes at the store but had another motive which was to steal clothes there. She was eventually caught as she reportedly hid the clothes in her bag and attempted to escape.

It was gathered that the owner of the store had incurred the loss of several clothes in the past before luck ran out on Ijeoma and she was caught in the act. She was handed over to the police.

At the police station, the owner of the store, Awolusi Saheed, stated that the total clothes Ijeoma had stolen from him was about N562,000.

TraderMoni Is Vote Buying, says Transparency International

Transparency International Nigeria has said the TraderMoni scheme, a collateral-free loan initiative targeted at petty traders and artisans as part of the National Social Investment Programme of the Federal Government, is a form of voter inducement.

The chairman of the anti-corruption organisation, Awwal Rafsanjani, who spoke on Lunchtime Politics, a programme of Channels Television, noted that the initiative was an “official use of public funds in the name of TraderMoni to actually induce voters.”

Rafsanjani noted that the TraderMoni scheme was not a programme that was “part and parcel of the manifesto of the ruling party and it is not in Nigerian constitution.”

He added, “It was not done three years ago. It was only started close to election time. So, the allegation by many Nigerians that this is clearly a case of vote buying using public funds goes contrary to our constitution and to having a free and fair election.

“That is why the Independent National Electoral Commission itself has seen this danger. The vote buying we are seeing has transformed to have more official recognition through the acts that unfortunately we are seeing performed by some of the agencies using public funds.

“This is despite the statement by the President that public funds will not be used for his re-election campaign. But this, unfortunately, is contrary to what Nigerians are seeing.”

The Federal Government had, however, argued that the TraderMoni was an empowerment initiative designed to meet the financing need of at least two million petty traders across the country.

But Rafsanjani said if the government had TraderMoni as a policy plan, it should have begun its implementation earlier than a few weeks to the elections.

He stated that, no matter how well-intentioned, implementing the scheme close the elections would give different signals to Nigerians across the federation, adding that if the government was sincere about the scheme, it would have started before the elections drew this close.

He said mixing election campaigns with “distribution of money” is very wrong.

CJN Onnoghen's Suspension: Atiku Hits President Buhari

PDP Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar has reacted to the suspension of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen by President Muhammadu Buhari. The matter is getting hotter.

Below is the full statement from Atiku:

"The purported suspension of the Chief Justice of Nigeria by President Muhammadu Buhari, is an anti democratic act which I reject in its entirely and call on Justice Onnoghen and the judiciary to resist with every legal and constitutional means that they can muster.

This brazen dictatorial act is the latest action in the ongoing rape of our nation’s hard earned democracy by those who dined with anti democratic forces, and is symptomatic of the increasing desperation that President Buhari and the cabal pulling the strings have as February 16, 2019 draws near.

The fact that the unlawful suspension of Chief Justice Walter Onnoghen was announced just as it became public knowledge that the CJN was constituting the election petition tribunals is not lost on discerning Nigerians and the international community. This act of desperation is geared towards affecting the outcome of the 2019 Presidential elections. Indeed, it is not just the CJN that has been "suspended", it is the Nigerian Constitution that has been infracted and, in effect, suspended, under the guise of the suspension of the CJN.

The case involving the legality or otherwise of the charges against Chief Justice Walter Onnoghen is in court, as it should be. So far, the judiciary has ruled in Justice Onnoghen’s favour. So, why not allow the court to adjudicate on the matter? What is the pressing urgency?

I want to seize this opportunity to call for unity amongst the judiciary. Do not let the Muhammadu Buhari administration divide you. Do not let this government turn you against yourselves. The judiciary is the last hope of the common man and the defender of our democracy.

I also urge the international community to follow the commendable example of the United States and the United Kingdom by intervening to make those involved in this undemocratic act know that their actions will have consequences. Strong consequences.

And to the Nigerian electorate, I call on you to save your beloved country from dictatorship by voting against President Muhammadu Buhari’s desperate war against the judiciary. Our country is falling apart under the leadership of President Buhari and it is time to stand up for democracy."

Saraki Warns Buhari Over CJN: You Don't Have Power To Suspend The Chief Justice

Senate President Bukola Saraki has described the suspension of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Walter Onoghen by President Muhammadu Buhari, as a coup against democracy and a deliberate attempt to endanger our hard-won democracy.

Saraki, in a statement personally signed by him, stated that the suspension was another act of desperation by President Buhari. He noted that by the suspension of the CJN, Buhari has acted outside the provision of the constitution, has exercised the powers which he does not have and that this action amounted to gross misconduct.

“This is an action aimed at undermtining the nation’s judiciary, subverting the constitution, intimidating judges of all the courts of record, and creating uncertainty in the electoral process, thereby laying the foundation for influencing the outcome of litigations that might arise from next month’s elections.

“There are already the general belief that this hasty action was taken to pre-empt the already scheduled inauguration of election petition tribunals by Hon. Justice Onoghen and to destroy national institutions that are perceived to be unco-operative in his bid to manipulate the electoral process leading to next month’s general elections.

“By unilaterally suspending the CJN without following the provision of the constitution, President Buhari has taken an action which amounted to gross misconduct. He has simply sent a dangerous signal to the entire world that Nigeria is no longer a democratic nation and that we have returned to the old, jaded era of military dictatorship.

“Our constitution makes no provision for suspension of the nation’s highest judicial officer. The constitution provides a clear process for removal of the CJN and specify the roles of the three arms of government, beginning from the National Judicial Council (NJC), the National Assembly and lastly, the Presidency, have different roles to play in that process. There is no condition under which the President can usurp the powers of other arms of government. I do not know where the President and his advisers got this idea of suspending the CJN on the so-called order of the Code of Conduct Tribunal but this is novel, disingenuous and alien to our laws.

“The President and his team must have seen this so-called suspension as a short-cut to getting Hon. Justice Onnoghen out of the way since the appellate court has eventually stopped the CCT from continuing with the trial of the CJN. It is strange that President Buhari is claiming to be taking orders from a Tribunal which has been ordered by a superior court to halt all actions on the trial.

“With this action, President Buhari has initiated a process the consequence of which nobody can predict. They have precipitated a constitutional crisis.

At this point, all democratic institutions in the country, the international community and democrats across the world should rise against this blatant act of impunity. We should jointly condemn this retrogressive, uncivilized and despotic measure,” Saraki stated.

The senate president called on Buhari to immediately reverse this decision and allow the due process of law to take its natural course in determining the guilt or otherwise as well as the suitability of Hon. Justice Onnoghen to continue as the head of the nation’s judiciary.

Seun Ajayi & Wife Welcome Baby Boy

Nollywood actor, Seun Ajayi and his wife, Dami Ajayi have welcomed their first child -- a baby boy together. Thanking God for the gift, Seun wrote;

Bride Reveals How She Was Forced Into Marriage & R*ped By Her Disabled Groom

A bride forced into an arranged marriage has described how her disabled groom r-ped her - as his mum told him how to from the door.

Brave Sunny Angel says her new husband, who had learning difficulties, looked terrified as he forced himself on her on their wedding night.

With the "mental age of a child", he was allegedly instructed by his mother, who stood by the door to make sure the marriage was 'consummated'.

And afterwards, he asked her: "I've done it now, can I have the chocolate?"

Sunny, then only 20, also claims her groom was shown porn by his mum so he could learn how to have sex and provide her with a "grandson".

She says the wedding night rape was the first of numerous attacks - with her mother-in-law standing outside "every time we had s-x" afterwards.

But remarkably, she told Mirror Online she doesn't blame her "vulnerable" ex-husband, saying he was exploited "in the name of honour".

"Many disabled people are vulnerable and forced to rape by parents just like my ex-husband was," Sunny claimed.

"All in the name of honour. It's disturbing. It's very wrong."

Now aged 40 and living in Surrey, she says her groom, referred to by the pseudonym Ajay, seemed to be "under orders" to attack her.

"I could see in his eyes he didn't want to r-pe me or hit me," she told The Sun of the first r-pe, which allegedly happened in the late 1990s.

Speaking of her groom's mum, she added: "She'd say, 'I want a grandson, you have to do this', then stand outside the door every time we had s-x telling him what to do, it felt like he was under orders to do it.

"He didn't even want me to see him n-ked. He seemed really scared."

Sunny, who was raised as a Hindu, had been matched with Ajay by her parents, who had started planning for her wedding when she was 19.

Back then, forced marriage wasn't illegal like it is today.

She says the then-25-year-old vowed to treat her "like a princess" and sent her love letters - which had actually been penned by his mother.

In reality, Ajay, who also lived in the UK, couldn't read or write.

Describing her ordeal last year, Sunny said: "When he would call me on the phone, it was actually someone else pretending to be him.

"The cards he sent me were written by his mum."

According to the Daily Mail, she added: "During the wedding was the first time we spoke face to face and he asked me if I was going to be his wife...

"All he said was that his mum told him he had to consummate the marriage."

It was after the couple's 1999 wedding at a Hindu temple - which felt more "like a funeral" - that Sunny learned about her groom's disabilities.

Four months after the couple wed, their marriage ended after Sunny was hospitalised because her mum-in-law had 'stopped her eating'.

She returned home and the pair finally divorced.

Sunny now campaigns to raise awareness of forced marriage and has even written a book about her previous ordeals, called Wings.

Woman Thrown Out Of Gym Because Her Crop Top Was Too 'Distracting' For Men

When you go to the gym, you're probably not all that focused on what everyone around you is doing.

You're concentrating on working up a sweat and staying on the treadmill for just one more minute.

But one woman was recently told she needed to think more about the other people working out - because she was distracting them.

However it wasn't her crunches or impressive lifts that had people stopping what they were doing, it was her outfit, which bared about an inch of flesh on her stomach.

Law student Marny, 22, was shocked when a female member of staff approached her at a gym she'd been attending in Constance, Germany for the last two years.

She claims the woman told her "you can't train like that" and indicated to her work out gear, which consisted of a black crop top and trousers.

According to staff at the gym her outfit was deemed too "distracting".

Speaking to the Standard, Marny said: "She told me 'you can't train like that' and I was just looking at her confused because I didn't know what she meant.

"She said: 'you can't wear a sports bra.'

"I was shocked because it wasn't a sports bra and even if it was, why not?"

She added: "The trainer said it was distracting for other guests around."

The young woman posted a photo of her gym clothes on Twitter , showing that only a small portion of skin around her stomach and back would have been visible during her exercise session.

Alongside the image, she wrote: "Just got kicked out of my gym, because my clothes were too 'revealing' (see photo) and were confusing the men in the gym. "

She added: "What century are we in again? So sad."

Her post quickly went viral, garnering over 1,700 likes.

Many people also took the time to share support for Marny and shame the unnamed gym company.

One person replied: "What are the men confused about?? Have they never seen a woman before?!"

Another said: "That's too revealing? The only way that is too revealing is by the standards of 100 years ago."

A third added: "Sorry, what?! People at my gym and yoga studio train in shorts and sports bras and nobody even notices. Formal complaint time."

Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez are still going strong now that their relationship is public.

News of the Amazon CEO’s romance with the news anchor and helicopter pilot, 49, first broke in early January after Bezos, 55, announced his divorce from wife MacKenzie after 25 years together in a joint statement on Twitter. Their split is likely to be one of the most expensive ever — since Bezos is the richest man in the world worth an estimated $137 billion.
