Osinbajo's Helicopter Crash: Presidency Orders Full Probe

The nation was saved from tragedy on Saturday as the helicopter, Augusta AW139, conveying Vice-President Prof Yemi Osinbajo crash-landed in Kogi State.

The incident occurred in Kabba, where the VP had visited in continuation of his engagement of Nigerians on the ‘Next Level’ re-election plan of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Presidency said the accident would be investigated in line with protocol.

Osinbajo’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr Laolu Akande, who spoke with The Punch, disclosed that an investigation would be immediately set in motion.

Responding to a specific question on whether the incident would be investigated, he said, “We will follow all the necessary due diligence; that will be certainly done. That is the protocol and it is the order of things to happen.”

Asked further to speak on the condition of Osinbajo and other occupants of the ill-fated chopper, Akande said, “He is completely safe. He is actually at a road stop here in Kabba and he is addressing a mammoth crowd. He is safe and everybody is fine. Everybody got out of the chopper safely after that incident.

“The VP has since gone on to address people on the way. This is his second stop in Kabba right now.”

An eyewitness told one of our correspondents that the helicopter managed to land at about 2.22pm at stadium in the town before its propeller suddenly pulled off.

Although the remote cause of the accident was not known as of the time of filing this report, it was learnt that the pilot of the helicopter might have found it difficult to land due to the dusty terrain of the stadium.

Immediately the incident happened, the Vice-President was said to have been immediately evacuated from the scene of the incident into a waiting vehicle and was thereafter driven in convoy with other political office holders to the palace of Obaro of Kabba on a courtesy call.

Akande also issued a formal statement confirming the accident and the safety of Osinbajo.

The statement reads in part, “Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, arrived in Kabba, Kogi State today. His chopper had crash-landed after a landing incident, but everyone is safe.

“Prof Osinbajo is now in Kabba after the incident and continuing his engagements in the state, engaging the people on the ‘Next Level’ plan of the Buhari administration.”

We’re grateful to God, says VP
Meanwhile, Osinbajo has expressed gratitude to God for saving him and the lives of all those aboard the chopper.

Speaking in Kabba, he said, “We are extremely grateful to the Lord for preserving our lives from the incident that just happened. Everyone is safe and no one is maimed. God has kept us safe and alive, delivered us from death so we can do more for our people and country.”

Yoruba Deity, Oluorogbo, Is Like Jesus- Ooni Of Ife

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja 11, on Saturday likened the Yoruba deity, Oluorogbo, with Jesus Christ, drawing similarities between them.

The Ooni spoke Saturday to journalists at the resuscitated Edi Annual Festival in Ile-Ife, meant to celebrate Oluorogbo, who according to mythology, ascended to heaven, after being killed by her mother, Moremi as a sacrifice for the gods.

There is no difference between Oluorogbo and Jesus Christ, the son of God that Christians believed in, for they both sacrificed their lives for the salvation of all souls, Oba Ogunwusi said.

Oba Ogunwusi described Oluorogbo as a selfless deity that turned himself into a sacrificial lamb for humanity, to bring peace and sanity among other deities to the world.

He added that as Jesus Christ brought peace and unity to the whole world, so also did Oluorogbo deliver people at the time of trouble by allowing peaceful coexistence to reign supreme.

Pushing his point further, Oba Ogunwusi said Oluorogbo was the son of God who stood for purity and godliness that signified what God stands for, adding that Oluorogbo was among the deities that were specially made.

Unlike Jesus Christ who came 2019 years ago, Oluorogbo preceded the creation of the whole universe and as Christians are expecting the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ, Oluorogbo will forever remain, the Ooni said.

Oba Ogunwusi debunked the perception that Ife indigenes are idolaters.

On the contrary, he said, by celebrating their deities, the Ife people are only worshiping the Almighty God and upholding the cultural heritage and tradition of the Yoruba race.

He said that some people have ignorantly tagged the cradle of Yoruba, Ile-Ife as a town that practised idolatory.

Ooni urged the populace to give room for peace and unity. He also urged them to be altruistic for no one can achieve greatness in life without showing love to others.

He urged all and sundry to emulate the Oluorogbo in giving all they have to assist others in trouble.

The Obalase Oluorogbo Agbaye, Adebayo Orisayemi, Awosola 111, thanked Oba Ogunwusi for resuscitating the Oluorogbo festival and urged other traditional rulers to emulate him in promoting their tradition.

According to Yoruba mythology, Oluorogbo was the only son of Moremi, who she used for sacrifice to the river goddess to deliver the people of Ile-Ife from Igbo predators.

One Ife myth said Olurogbo survived the sacrifice. He made a rope of grass and climbed to heaven where he is said to have lived ever since with the gods and immortal heroes of Yorubaland.

I’m Not As Tough As I Appear In Movies –Jaiye Kuti

Actress, Jaiye Kuti, is one of the most prominent faces in Yoruba movie circles at the moment. Often acting the role of a stern woman or scheming mother, a lot of people believe that Kuti is as strict and tough as she appears in movies.

However, in a chat with Sunday Scoop, the role interpreter says though she is strict, she is not as tough as made out in movies.

She said, “Yes, I am a very strict person. I don’t take nonsense and I don’t give nonsense. I like people who are honest and truthful to a level. I treat people well as human beings and I try to be upright with them. But when people try to take advantage of me, I don’t accept it. However, I am not as tough as I appear in movies. I have children and I have been able to, by the grace of God, raise them properly. If you ask the people in my house, they would tell you that I don’t take nonsense.”

Kuti also maintained that gone were the days when Yoruba actors usually worked for free on their friends’ movie sets.

“That happened way back. It does not happen like that again. No one has ever called me to feature on a movie for free because we’re friends. Gone are the days when that happened. We all have responsibilities and if you keep working for free, how do you make headway? You need every movie to pay for your bread and butter.

I pay whoever I invite to work with me and I expect the same treatment. These days, there are several producers from different places. Some of them are just investors who want to make money from their investments,” she said.

Why The Helicopter Carrying Osinbajo Crashed

An air charter service, Caverton Helicopter, on Saturday blamed hazy weather conditions for the helicopter crash involving Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo.

Josiah Choms, an executive at Caverton, said Mr Osinbajo was being conveyed in an Augusta AW139 chopper when it lost control as it was about to touch down.

The Lagos-based firm said the incident occurred at about 3:00 p.m. in Kabba, Kogi State, confirming earlier account of Mr Osinbajo’s office.

Mr Osinbajo was on a campaign mission ahead of the presidential elections.

The accident was due to “unusual weather conditions,” Mr Choms said, adding that there were no injuries to the passengers or crew members as they were all quickly and safely evacuated.

“The relevant authorities have been duly informed and an investigation into the incident has commenced. We will, of course, support the authorities as required,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, the vice-president’s office has released additional details about the incident.

Laolu Akande, a presidential spokesperson, said 12 people including the minister of state for labour and productivity, Stephen Ocheni, senior presidential aides, security officials were on board the helicopter.

“We are grateful to God for His protection and safety, and we thank the crew and security personnel for their prompt response and service. We are also grateful for the tremendous expressions of concern and affection, as well as prayers from all."

I Can’t Sacrifice My Career For A Man! Omo Ibadan States Categorically

Tell them! Popular social media comedian, Omo Ibadan, went viral on the Internet recently when she pleaded for her future husband to come to her on time. With her plea, many took it to mean that she was love starved. In a chat with Sunday Scoop, however, she revealed that she was not in short supply of marriage proposals.

She said, “Even before that post, I have been getting many marriage proposals – both serious and unserious ones. However, I want a man that appreciates me as a woman and would always support what I do. The most important thing is that he should love what I do. I am not really the choosy type; as long as I like you, that’s fine. I also want someone that has a vision. In terms of physical qualities, I really cannot tell. If I say I want a dark-skinned guy (which is actually my preference) and I fall in love with someone who isn’t that way, what do I do?”

Maintaining that she cannot sacrifice her career for any man, Omo Ibadan said, “My future first! If I like you and you don’t like what I do, maybe we just have to stop whatever we are doing. I cannot even be attracted to someone that does not like what I do.”

Both Bow Wow & Woman In A Fight Are Arrested & Charged With Battery

Rapper Bow Wow was arrested and charged with misdemeanor battery charges, Atlanta police said Saturday.

The rapper, whose given name is Shad Moss, was arrested early Saturday following a fight with a woman in Midtown Atlanta, said Officer Jarius Daugherty.

When officers responded to the call, the woman told them Moss had assaulted her but the rapper said the woman had assaulted him, police said.

"Officers were unable to determine the primary aggressor of the altercation, so both parties were charged with battery," Daugherty said in a statement.

Both suffered minor injuries and were taken to the Fulton County Jail.

Moss was released from jail Saturday afternoon after he being held on $8,000 signature bond, jail records show.

The rapper's attorney, Joe Habachy, said his client was wrongfully arrested.

He said the woman involved in the incident was intoxicated and beat Moss "with a lamp, bit him on his side and spit on him" while he "continually made efforts to avoid her."

"For no logical reason officers arrested both parties despite having clear-cut evidence that Bow Wow was the victim in the case," he added.

Habachy said the rapper's mugshot clearly shows some of his injuries.

"Bow Wow feels very strongly that a man should never lay a hand on a woman, even in self-defense, hence his failure to defend himself here," he added.

Formerly known as Lil' Bow Wow, the "Shortie Like Mine" and "Take Ya Home" star jumped to fame when fellow rapper Snoop Dogg made him his protégé.

Police Watched As Kidnappers Abduct Me - APC State Chairman

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia, Chief Donatus Nwankpa, freed by kidnappers after four days has made a sensational revelation about his ordeal: the indifference by Nigerian policemen who witnessed his kidnap.

Nwankpa who has returned home said the hoodlums, who kidnapped him, accosted his car about 30 metres away from a police checkpoint at the Arungwa Junction on Enugu-Port Harcourt expressway.

“The police were watching and did not intervene, while we were attacked by the hoodlums,” he said.

Nwankpa was said to have been kidnapped while on his way to Aba from Umuahia around 11 pm on Monday, ahead of Tuesday’s visit of President Muhammadu Buhari for his presidential rally.

He told newsmen in his residence in Umuahia on Friday, that he was released at about 9 pm on Thursday and taken to the border between Abia and Rivers states.

He said that after they were kidnapped, he pleaded with the gunmen to release one of his aides, who had a major operation recently and was still recuperating.

He said that they heeded his plea and dropped off the man but drove him away to a deep forest in Rivers.

Nwankpa said that it took the kidnappers about 48 hours before they could open up communication and agree to negotiate with his people.

He said that although the Department of State Services (DSS) was able to locate their location in the forest, he admonished them not to take any action.
“When you are kidnapped, you are between life and death. So I told the DSS that nobody should attack after they located the place I was kept,” he said.

He said that his fear was that death could come from the kidnappers or during a gun battle between the hoodlums and security agents.

The APC chairman dismissed as “unfounded” the rumour that he was trailed by his abductors after he had withdrawn N50 million from the bank, describing it as “political blackmail.”

He said that he had only N250,000 when he was attacked and blamed the incident on the state of insecurity in the state.

He expressed joy that he was not hurt by his abductors but could not disclose whether ransom was paid before he was let off the hook.

Scores of APC party chieftains in the state visited Nwankpa’s residence on Friday to rejoice with him over his safe return.
