Man gored to death by bull at Spanish festival

A man has been gored to death by a bull during a festival in central Spain, officials said.

The 62-year-old was killed during a bull run in Cuellar on Thursday.

The man suffered "several deadly horn blows" in the chest and neck and could not be saved, town mayor Carlos Fraile told local media.

The victim was only a spectator at the festival but was rammed into a field and gored. Another spectator climbed onto a wall to avoid being gored.

Spain is famous for its summer bull runs and there are many casualties every year. Eight people were gored and 35 injured at the famed San Fermin festival in Pamplona this year.

Homosexuality is African, it wasn’t introduced by Europeans – Jidenna

Jidenna is opening up about homosexuality in African culture. The singer, who partially grew up in Nigeria and never hesitates to represent his background, is now speaking about myths concerning same-sex relationships in Africa.

During an interview he said,

“The whole idea that Black people, and our tradition to be Black… You hear these African leaders who are dressed in three-piece suits, got an iPhone, speaking in English and not their native tongue are saying, ‘it’s unafrican to be homosexual, it’s unafrican… we don’t have it. That was brought as a European import.’ It’s not true. It’s not true at all.”

He added,

“You got Uganda, the kingdom of Buganda at the time… Before Uganda, there was an openly gay king. If you go to Zimbabwe… the bushmen as they call them, you’ll see homosexual acts in the Cape paintings. If you go to different communities in Africa, there was different rights of passage where if a woman was with a woman, or a man was with a man, they were thought to be mower powerful. There was never a time where this didn’t exist, or where it was just hands down that homosexuals were wrong. That’s not actual an African thing, which means it’s not a Black thing.”

Doctors find bizarre mass of bone, teeth & hair in teen's stomach... it was her own twin

A teenager in India was discovered to have a bizarre mass of bone, teeth and "hairy cheesy material" in her abdomen, according to a new report of the case. It was her own "twin" growing inside her, the result of an extremely rare condition called "fetus in fetu."

The 17-year-old went to the doctor after developing a lump in her abdomen that had been gradually increasing in size over the last five years, according to the report, published Aug. 12 in the journal BMJ Case Reports. The teen told doctors that she sometimes experienced abdominal pain and a feeling of fullness, even when she had not eaten much food.

A CT scan revealed that the teen had a large mass in her abdomen that appeared to contain multiple bones "resembling the shape of vertebrae, ribs and long bones," the authors wrote.

Doctors diagnosed the teen with fetus in fetu, a condition that is estimated to occur in only about 1 in 500,000 people worldwide.

The new case is even more unusual because it was diagnosed in a teenager, whereas most previous cases have been found in infancy or early childhood, the authors said. What's more, the mass appears to be the largest one ever discovered in a case like this, they said.

When doctors took it out, the mass was about two-thirds the size of a full-term baby: It measured 14 by 6 by 4 inches (36 by 16 by 10 centimeters) "and was composed of hairy cheesy material, multiple teeth and structures resembling limb buds". It also contained skin, hair and fat tissue, they said.

IGP orders security beef-up around worship centres

The Inspector- General of Police (IGP), Mr Mohammed Adamu, has directed commissioners of police across the country to pay special attention to the clergy and increase security around worship centres nationwide.

The Force Public Relation Officer, DCP Frank Mba, announced the decision in a statement in Abuja, saying the directive followed the murder of Rev. Fr. David Tanko by unknown persons in the early hours of Thursday.

Mba said the priest was gruesomely murdered in the most inhuman and barbaric manner at Kpankufu Village along Wukari Road in Taraba on his way to Kofai Amadu village.

He said the IGP had given marching orders to the commissioner of police in-charge of Taraba Command to fish out the killers.

Mba said the IGP also directed the deputy inspector-general of police in-charge of Force Criminal Investigation Department to provide additional forensic and other investigative assets to the Police Command in Taraba to aid investigations into the incident.

He said the IGP had expressed deep concern over the recent incidents of attacks on clergymen in some parts of the country.

Mba said the IGP had condoled with the Catholic family in Nigeria over the unfortunate incident and urged the people to be calm.

He, however, called for maximum support for the police in the bid to unravel perpetrators of the crime, their motives and circumstances surrounding the killing.

He said the IGP had pledged to ensure that perpetrators of the act would not go undetected and unpunished.

Nigerians pay N400bn bribes annually - ICPC official

An official of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) has said Nigerians pay an estimated N400bn annually as bribes to obtain public services.

The Principal Investigator at the Anti-Corruption Academy of Nigeria (ACAN), the research and training arm of ICPC, Suleiman Suleiman, said this on Tuesday.

He spoke at the stakeholders meeting on Nigeria Corruption Index (NCI), and presentation of a policy brief on Eradication of Electoral Corruption Awareness Survey in Abuja.

He quoted the PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC) 2016 data that estimated that corruption will wipe off 37 per cent of Nigeria’s GDP by 2030.

He further quoted PWC findings that Nigeria’s GDP would rise as high as $534 billion if it reduces corruption to a minimal level.

According to him, many Nigerians do not have any direct contact with many public institutions where a lot of corruption occurs.

The latest Nigerian Gross Domestic Product (GDP) report by the National Bureau of Statistics shows that the Nigerian economy grew by 2.01 per cent (year-on-year) in real terms.

Compared to the growth rate of 1.89 per cent recorded in the first quarter of 2018, the NBS said real GDP in the first quarter of 2019 grew by 0.12 per cent points.

”In 2016, PWC conducted research with the aims of finding what Nigeria’s GDP would be by 2030. Based on their forecast they discovered that Nigeria GDP would be around $1,457billion.

”Also, they wanted to know what would be the cost of corruption during that period. That is, if they did the research in 2015, that is 15 years ahead. They found that if Nigeria is able to reduce corruption by that 2030, it would even be higher than that $1457 billion by up to $534 billion.

”It is like saying if you spend money unwisely you would have N20 but when the money is spent carefully, you would have N35. So the figure of $534billion is what Nigeria can have if we reduce corruption.

”The PWC found that 32. 3 per cent of service users are asked to pay a bribe, which is quite high. If the average bribe is N5,300 and you have up to 83 million bribes a year, multiplied by N5,300 and it gives you 4000billion,” Mr Suleiman explained.

17-year old Jamaica sprinter, Briana fails drug test

Teenage Jamaican sprint sensation Briana Williams has tested positive for a banned substance.

The 17-year-old double under-20 world champion, who is sixth fastest over 100m outdoors in the world this year, was found to have the diuretic Hydrochlorothiazide in her system during competition.

Williams, who is widely considered one of the most exciting up-and-coming track and field stars, reportedly tested positive for the substance at June's Jamaican championships, where she clocked 10.94secs.

She has already qualified for the 100m at the World Championships in Doha next month and has spoken of her aim of winning Olympic gold as early as Tokyo 2020.

Her coach Ato Boldon, who won 100m silver at Sydney 2000 and tested positive for a banned stimulant in 2001 but was cleared, has blamed 'contaminated tablets'. It is understood that Williams's defence rests on her taking medication for a cold.

Boldon remains the only person to receive a statement from top American sprinter Christian Coleman about his charge for missing three drugs tests, which was revealed last week by Sportsmail.
