Bride glues dead dad's ashes into fake nails so he can walk her down the aisle

A bride had her dad’s ashes glued into her acrylic nails so she could fulfil his promise of walking her down the aisle.

Charlotte Walton had hoped her father would be there to give her away when she married her partner Nick, 33, on August 30, 2019.

Tragically her father, Mick Barber, died of cancer in April, rendering the dream impossible.
While no substitute for having her dad there in person, the 26-year-old's cousin Kirsty had the idea to having Mick's ashes suspended in her acrylic nail.

Charlotte, a car dealer, said: “Kirsty is the queen of nails and I thought her idea was amazing.

“I was always a huge daddy’s girl, we all were, whenever we asked for anything he would say no first but then he would feel bad and would do it five minutes later.
“He was diagnosed with cancer which was incurable, at that point we knew we had to move quick so that he could be there to watch me marry Nick.

“I was heartbroken when he lost his battle because I knew how much he wanted to see us marry, I wanted him to be there but it wasn’t meant to be."

“Having the ashes attached to my nails felt like he was holding my hand, I knew it wasn’t the same as him really being there, but it was as close as we could get," she said.

“It was a unique thing to do but I loved it, I felt like he was able to walk me down the aisle, which I knew was something he really wanted to do.

“I suppose the funny side of it was that people asked me what I would do with the nails once they fell off as if I was going to throw them away.

“I loved having him there with me even if it was just in spirit, but with his ashes attached to me as I walked to wed my husband it felt like the next best thing.

“The wedding was incredible, and everyone loved the nails.”

Photo: Internet fraudster gets two-year jail term

Rapheal Onwugbolu has bagged two years jail term for internet fraud. The conviction followed his prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC before Justice Taiwo Taiwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on two counts bordering on cybercrime.

One of the charges reads: “That you, Raphael Ifedora Onwugbolu (a.k.a Jeffrey Hanks) sometime in 2006 at Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, fraudulently impersonated one Jeffrey Hanks, an American medical doctor based in South Africa, with intent to obtain property to wit: the sum of $5,000 (Five Thousand United States Dollars) from one Maria Sandas, an American resident, and you thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 22(2)(b)(ii) of the Cyber Crimes (Prohibition Prevention, etc) Act, 2015 and punishable under the same Act.”

He pleaded guilty to all the charges. Following his ‘guilty plea’, prosecuting counsel, Olanrewaju Adeola, informed the court of a plea bargain agreement entered with the defence team, and urged the court to adopt same and sentence the defendant based on the terms of the agreement.

In his response, defence counsel, Adaji Abel pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy, saying the defendant has become a changed person since 2006 when the offence was committed.

Justice Taiwo adopted the terms of the plea bargain and convicted him accordingly.

Truck driver kills wife for reporting him to her mum

A truck driver identified as Kazeem has allegedly killed his wife, Raimot, for visiting her mother.

The incident happened penultimate Monday at their residence at Agbalagada compound in Adatan area of Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Sources said the couple had been engaging in scuffles following which Raimot reported Kazeem to her mother. Kazeem was said to have warned his wife against visiting her mother.
It was said that Raimot who previously had a son called Farouk with an unnamed man visited her son who lives with her mother.

The visit was said to have angered Kazeem who told Raimot on her mobile phone not to return home in her own interest for defying his order against visiting her mother.

The deceased however returned home to Kazeem, who descended on her leading to a fight.

It was in the middle of the scuffle that Kazeem subjected Raimot to brutality, dragging her on the street till she passed out.
Kazeem on realising the consequences of his action rushed his breathless wife to a nearby hospital, where she was confirmed dead.

A source said: ‘’After a private hospital had rejected Raimot because doctors there said she was brought in dead, her husband took her to a public hospital at Ijaiye area of Abeokuta, but doctors again told him to take her body to mortuary because she was dead.

‘’Before now, she had constantly subjected his late wife to beatings and molestation, so much so that his mother in–law had to invite policemen from Adatan Division to arrest him. He however did not stop to brutalise her despite the warning by the police.

It was learnt that Kazeem lied to men of a police division at Lafenwa, Abeokuta, that Raimot died after she collapsed while fetching water in the neighbourhood.

Family members and neighbours of the deceased however explained to the police that Kazeem actually killed his wife.

It was gathered that Kazeem has since bolted without any trace, while the remains of the deceased have been buried according to Islamic injunctions.

Confirming the incident, police spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi said operatives were still on the trail of Kazeem.

‘’We are still looking for the suspect, Kazeem. He rushed to the police claiming his wife had an accident. But family members of the deceased and sources in the neighbourhood later revealed that he was actually the one who allegedly beat his wife to death.

‘’ The mistake the family members made was to raise the alarm on sighting Kazeem instead of alerting the police to arrest him, which made the suspect to run away. However, we are not going to relent until we arrest him.’’

Plot to spread more lies to tarnish Osinbajo’s reputation uncovered

A political group in Nigeria says there are fresh plots aimed at tarnishing the reputation of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo by some political actors from within the Presidency referred to as ‘the cabal.’

The Initiative to Save Democracy (ISD) says there is a calculated attempt by the cabal in collusion some South West leaders to peddle outright falsehood, fake news and lies against the Vice President.

In a press statement issued on Saturday and signed by the Peter Oladele, Secretary of ISD, the group said it has reliable information that the cabal would stop at nothing to distract the Vice President from doing his work.

The group said they were working tirelessly to malign the Vice President’s reputation and integrity after they could not find any wrongdoing evidence against him.

“The first thing they attempted to do was to destroy the relationship between the President and Vice President but that has not worked despite deploying different strategies from inside and outside.

“Then they tried to malign the Vice President’s reputation by throwing up all sorts of trump charges against him but with no evidence of wrongdoing that soon crumbled.

“They even referred to the N5.8 billion NEMA Emergency Intervention, the N90 billion FIRS Campaign Fund and other fake news but all those failed too because they were fake news from the beginning. They even went after those who have backed the Vice President,” the statement said.

ISD then explained that the cabal is cooking more fake news and lies against the VP and that this time, it was in conjunction with South West leaders.

Revealed: Port Harcourt named after a rapist

Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State derived its name from a British rapist and paedophile, Lord Lewis Vernon Harcourt.

Although, this was disclosed by controversial former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, who asked for the change of the name, search showed that he was right.

History records that Harcourt enjoyed to have sexual liasons with both underage girls and boys.

Harcourt was born at Nuneham Courtenay, Oxfordshire, on 31 January 1863, the only surviving son of politician Sir William Vernon Harcourt and his first wife, Theresa Lister.

He was originally christened with the name Reginald, in honour of his father’s university friend Reginald Cholmondeley, but when George Cornewall Lewis died just over two months after, he was rechristened with the name Lewis.

According to Wikipedia, Harcourt never knew his mother, who died only a day after giving birth to him. His elder brother, Julian Harcourt, had died the previous year. He was educated at Eton.

Port Harcourt, capital of Rivers State in southern Nigeria, is named after him. When the port was established in 1912, there was much controversy about the name it should receive. In August 1913, the Governor-General of Nigeria, Sir Frederick Lugard wrote to Harcourt, then Secretary of State for the Colonies, that “in the absence of any convenient local name, I would respectfully ask your permission to call this Port Harcourt”.
The Secretary of State replied, “It gives me pleasure to accede to your suggestion that my name should be associated with the new Port”

Harcourt was known in London Society a sexual predator of the young of both genders. He attempted to sexually assault Dorothy Brett, the daughter of Viscount Esher, when she was about 15.

Dorothy Brett wrote of him that “It is so tiresome that Loulou is such an old roué. He is as bad with boys as with girls… he is simply a sex maniac. It isn’t that he is in love. It is just ungovernable sex desire for both sexes.”

In 1922, Harcourt committed suicide via potassium bromide, following an attempt to seduce Edward James, a young Etonian, who later became a important collector of surrealist and other contemporary art. James’s mother spread the story throughout Society. However, the accusations remained unknown by the wider public for fifty years.

Harcourt died in his sleep at his London townhouse at 69, Brook Street (now Savile Club) in the early hours of 24 February 1922, aged 59. An inquest was held as to the cause of death, which was ruled accidental; the underlying cause being given as heart failure and sudden oedema of the lungs brought on by a dose of Bromidia, which he had been prescribed as a sleep aid.

According to the coroner, who found extensive heart disease, the amount of Bromidia he had taken would not have caused death in a healthy person. According to his valet, there was only a very small amount of Bromidia left in the bottle the prior evening, which Harcourt did not take regularly.

Huge 20-inch hairball cut out of teenager's stomach by surgeons

Surgeons removed this huge human hairball weighing 4.4lbs from a teenager’s stomach. The bizarre procedure took place when the unnamed 19-year-old was admitted to hospital in the city of Ulan-Ude in southern Russia with severe stomach pains.

According to reports, the young woman was vomiting after meals and struggling with a lack of body strength.

After carrying out a thorough medical examination, doctors discovered a bezoar, a solid mass of indigestible material, that had accumulated in her stomach.

The bezoar had filled up almost all of her stomach, causing immense pain and an ulcer in the intestines, according to reports.

During surgery, doctors removed a huge ball of hair that reportedly measured 50x10x10 centimetres (20x4x4 inches).

Head of the surgical team that operated on the teenager, Bator Dondokov, said: “Things like that can begin with an apparently innocent habit of chewing on your own hair.

“The group of people most at risk are young girls and the swallowed hair remains in the stomach.”

'I was r.a.p.e.d by 500 men from 11 - but cops chose to prosecute me'

Robbed of her childhood, degraded by hundreds of abusers and betrayed by the authorities she ran to for help.

The horrifying seven-year ordeal of s.e.x trafficking victim Jennifer today marks a new low in the Telford abuse scandal .

Jennifer – not her real name – tells the Sunday Mirror for the first time how she was r.a.p.e.d by over 500 men from the age off 11 – yet she is the one left with a criminal record.

She was gang raped, often in her school uniform, trafficked and held at gunpoint. Her nightmare left her so broken she attempted suicide.

At just 16, she feared for her life as one rapist battered her and shoved gravel in her mouth to silence her cries.

For four years, until she was 19, she fell under the control of a man who hawked her around like a piece of meat.

Jennifer claims police refused to intervene and repeatedly arrested her for prostitution from the age of 16 to 19, despite her plea she was being exploited.

Yet not one of her abusers has been brought to justice despite multiple reports to police. Jennifer says: “I must have been raped by more than 500 men.

"When I told the police, they told me I’d chosen my lifestyle. I asked to make a statement because I’d been raped and beaten by so many men and I wanted it to stop.

"An officer said, ‘You’re a common prostitute. Don’t you think that comes with the job?’ He said a jury would never believe I was a victim of abuse.

“Instead, I ended up in the dock. I starved so I had money for the court fines because I was terrified of going to jail. I was basically paying to be r.a.p.e.d.”

Jennifer paints a picture of an unbearable childhood. She missed school from 14 to 16 as she was being violated and beaten by up to 10 men a night.

A Sunday Mirror probe last year revealed up to 1,000 Telford girls could have been sexually exploited over four decades. Jennifer is set to give evidence to the ongoing public inquiry called as a result of our probe.

Her hell began when she moved to the Shropshire town in the late 1980s.

Finally, in the mid-90s, she fled to a relative’s home hundreds of miles away. Jennifer tells the Sunday Mirror: “I know it wasn’t my fault, but I feel guilty about girls who were abused. I wonder if they’d have been saved if I’d been taken seriously when I told police.

“I moved to Telford aged 11 and was desperate to fit in with other girls, who had boyfriends. I met a lad my age, but he introduced me to his older cousin and everything spiralled from there. His friends started gang raping me.”
Jennifer, now a mum in her 40s, skipped school for two years. A social worker visited her but she says barely any questions were asked about what was going on in her life.

Many Telford victims say most of their abusers were from the Pakistani community but Jennifer says she was sold to anyone willing to pay.

She was so terrified of one man she jumped out of a moving car as he attacked. Then another abuser left her in utter terror. Jennifer says: “One man dragged me into an industrial estate to r.a.p.e and beat me. I screamed, pray-ing someone could hear me. I thought he was going to kill me. There was a light on in a cellar and I was convinced that was where he’d dump my body.

Jennifer says if she refused to obey orders she would be battered by the man who was controlling her. He beat her so badly that she choked on her own blood – then he told her she would have to pay for a new carpet.

She adds: “He also locked me in a flat with iron bars, for three or four days. I was told the police thought I’d been abducted but they did nothing.”

Jennifer says she went to police soon after she turned 17. But she claims: “I was told to have a good think about how I’d look in court. I knew then no one would believe me.”

There was little support for Jennifer at home. She says: “My mum didn’t understand what was going on and she believed it was my fault. After going to the police once, she kept quiet, which was the wrong thing to do because my abusers thrived on her silence. She was embarrassed and ashamed. Our relationship has never recovered.”

Records seen by the Sunday Mirror show Jennifer was convicted 52 times and fined heavily by the time she was 19 after being sold for s.e.x.

Her trafficker was held in custody for four months on suspicion of a gang rape. But the case collapsed and he turned up at her door with a shotgun.

Jennifer pulled through but decided to have a termination. She finally broke free by fleeing Telford for ever.

She slowly rebuilt her life, had children and graduated from university.

When she read about mass abuse of Telford girls in the Sunday Mirror, she asked police to look at her case again, but was told her they wouldn’t have enough evidence to prosecute.

But she has been identified by a national scheme aimed at rooting out human trafficking and hopes this will lead to offenders being punished.

West Mercia Police said Jennifer’s case collapsed as officers were unable to identify offenders – but promised a thorough investigation “if more information were to come to light”.

The first complaint Jennifer made aged 17 was to an officer from West Midlands Police. The force said it did not have a record of the complaint but insisted all allegations of historic s.e.x abuse would be taken seriously.

Telford and Wrekin Council urged anyone with information to give evidence to the public inquiry.

Ghanaian fraudster with details of 35,000 bank cards jailed in London

A Ghanaian fraudster who lives in London went on luxury holidays abroad after harvesting details from thousands of bank customers.

Emanuel Poku, 24, from Enfield, London, but originally from Ghana has now been jailed two years and nine months.

Poku pleaded guilty to conspiring to defraud the UK telecommunications industry and UK banking industry, possession of an article used in fraud and possession of a false passport.

He was sentenced to 33 months imprisonment at Inner London Crown on Friday 20 September.

Poku also received additional prison sentences of 15 months and seven months, both to run concurrently. It follows a successful investigation by the Dedicated Card and Payment Crime Unit (DCPCU), a specialist police unit sponsored by the banking industry that targets the criminal gangs responsible for fraud.

Poku was found to have committed £50,000 of fraud between January and April 2019 after tricking customers into giving away their financial and personal details by sending out thousands of “smishing”4 text messages imitating banks and mobile phone companies.

The messages contained links to fake websites that would ask unsuspecting victims to enter their personal information, which would then be used to commit fraud. The fraudster also used ‘sim swaps’5 to complete fraudulent transfers and purchases on customers’ accounts.

The fraud was spotted through collaborative intelligence work between the DCPCU and mobile phone companies to identify criminals who are committing smishing and sim swap scams. All victims were fully refunded.

Poku was arrested on 1 April 2019 at his home address in London. A search of his property uncovered several counterfeit IDs and bank cards, over £12,000 in cash, dozens of sim cards, as well as laptops and mobile phones that had been used to commit fraud.

Internal analysis by DCPCU police officers found these devices contained over 500,000 individual mobile numbers, 35,000 card numbers and several pieces of software used to send out bulk text messages. The customer data found on these devices was subsequently linked to over £2 million of reported fraud losses. Poku was also found to have gone on a number of luxury holidays abroad, including to Paris and Mexico, believed to be funded through the proceeds of fraud.

In addition, several “phishing” websites were discovered on the laptops that imitated genuine phone companies and payment service providers and that were used to harvest victims’ personal details. These sites have all now been taken down to prevent any more unsuspecting members of the public from becoming victims and having their details compromised. In total, over £5.8 million of fraud is estimated to have been disrupted or prevented as a result of this investigation.

Chief judge shoots self in courtroom

The suicide bid by a judge who shot himself in a Yala courtroom, Thailand after handing down a ruling on Friday has sparked concerns over possible interference in the case.

Khanakorn Pianchana, a senior judge at the Yala provincial court, pulled out a pistol and shot himself at the end of a hearing on Friday afternoon, officials said.

He was rushed to hospital where he underwent surgery for injuries said not to be life-threatening. The incident reportedly took place in a third-floor courtroom.

About 3.30pm, Suriyan Hongvilai, spokesman of the Office of the Judiciary, said Mr Khanakorn had apparently acted out of stress from personal issues.

He said the Office of the Judiciary would launch a fact-finding probe into the incident.

A 25-page statement Mr Khanakorn purportedly posted on Facebook on Friday before he shot himself was circulating on social media on Friday.

As at last night, the document was no longer visible on Facebook.

The document states the case he was hearing concerned national security and was related to secret association, conspiracy and gun-law offences.

The document allegedly described disagreements among senior judges over the case ruling, in which  Mr Khanakorn reportedly decided to acquit all five defendants.

Messages reading "Return the ruling to the judges" and "Return justice to the people" were repeated three times in the document. The Court of Justice has neither confirmed nor denied the authenticity of the circulated document.

Future Forward Party secretary-general Piyabutr Saengkanokkul declared he did not believe the suicide attempt stemmed from stress.

He said Mr Khanakorn had been sending him information since early September, asking him to help make it public.

Trump to block immigrants unable to pay for healthcare

President Donald Trump issued a proclamation Friday night barring immigrants who do not have health insurance and cannot afford to pay medical care costs from getting visas of almost any kind to enter the US.

Immigrants must now show that they will obtain health insurance within 30 days of their arrival in the US or otherwise demonstrate that they will be able to pay for their medical expenses. The executive order does not lay out clear procedures for determining whether immigrants meet these requirements — it will be up to individual consular officers charged with evaluating visa applications and the State Department.

Trump said the move is a means of cutting costs to American citizens, who he said pay higher taxes, premiums and medical costs to cover hospital fees for those who cannot afford care.

Africans are confused about s*x – Lorraine Lionheart

Curvy Botswana singer, Lorraine Lionheart, who has performed at different parts of the country, has shared her opinion on how Africans perceive s3x.

Commenting on the notion some people have that Africans are hypocritical when it comes to s3x, she told Saturday Beats,

“I wouldn’t say (Africans are) hypocritical (about s3x). S3x education in Africa is usually limited to biology classes in secondary school and most of us just dive in to the unknown as we grow. As a result of that, the way we express our knowledge and understanding of s3x is to a point forgivable.

Our views about it are so confused and conflicted and it’s because of our struggles to find the balance between cultural or traditional ways and the modern (western) ways. Religion doesn’t help us much when it comes to s3x education.  It even adds more drama to our perspective.”
