Kate Middleton reveals the meal Prince William first tried to woo her with

Kate Middleton has told all about Prince William's big meal move to try and woo her - spaghetti bolognese.

The Royal couple first met at University and it was his cooking which helped bring them together.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge appeared on a special one-off show on Monday night, A Berry Royal Christmas .

Kate explained to veteran Great British Bake Off star Mary Berry the dish the Prince first prepared to try to win her heart.

He didn't shy away from duty at University of St. Andrews, Scotland, where the pair studied in 2001.

“In our university days he used to cook all sorts of meals - I think that was when he was trying to impress me, Mary," she said.
"Things like Bolognese, sauces and things like that.”

But she added: “William has to put up with my cooking most of the time now,” before the Duke replied: “It’s the reason I’m so skinny!”

William was later asked if he’d be cooking with their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis over Christmas.

He said: “We are talking about doing mince pies this year. I love mince pies. If the children want to cook mince pies then I’m happy to do that.”

Kate then added: “We grow our own vegetables too.

“We’ve got carrots, beans, beetroot - a massive favorite. Louis absolutely loves beetroot.”

Needless to say she also loves baking.

“I love making the cake,” she shared. “It’s become a bit of a tradition that I stay up until midnight with ridiculous amounts of cake mix and icing and I make far too much. But I love it.”

Atiku spoils Buhari’s birthday with rebuke on rising national debts

Atiku Abubakar, the defeated opposition presidential candidate, has penned an article questioning President Muhammadu Buhari over the piling national debts, especially the recent bid to borrow an additional $29.6billion to finance infrastructure.

In the article which coincides with Buhari’s 77th birthday, Atiku describes as irresponsible Nigeria’s decision to borrow more money, when the financial indicators are flashing warning signs. Nigeria, he said is spending more money on debt servicing than on capital projects.

“The fact that Nigeria currently budgets more money for debt servicing (₦2.7 trillion), than we do on capital expenditure (₦2.4 trillion) is already an indicator that we have borrowed more money than we can afford to borrow. And the thing is that debt servicing is not debt repayment. Debt servicing just means that we are paying the barest minimum allowable by our creditors.

“And while spending 50% of our current revenue on debt servicing, this administration wants to take further loans of $29.6 billion! To say that this is irresponsible is itself an understatement”, he wrote.

Atiku stated that Nigeria does not need to borrow as he offered his campaign programme as panacea: he urges the Buhari administration to re-engineer the NNPC and adopt the NLNG model in its governance. The NNLG, a joint venture, declares billions of dollars as profit every year, the NNPC, he said, declares losses.

“The money the Muhammadu Buhari administration wants to borrow to fund its Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) could be acquired without sinking the nation into further debt. All it requires is visionary leadership and business acumen.

“In my economic blueprint, I said that rather than turn in regular losses (which it has consistently been doing), the best thing to do with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation is to reform it. Of course, the administration’s paid propagandists went into overdrive, accusing me of planning to sell the NNPC to my friends. But just last week, Saudi Arabia’s ARAMCO, the most profitable company in the world, took that route and almost broke the global stock market with the most successful initial IPOs in world history, bar none. Ironically, Saudi Aramco raised $29.4 billion via this IPO. Just the amount this administration wants to borrow,” he wrote.

The opposition politician did not just limit his intervention to a mere rebuke of the Buhari administration as he also appealed to Nigerian youths to write their senators to reject the loan.

He called the power cabal behind the Buhari administration a ‘ravenous cabal’.

“I call on Nigeria’s youth to identify the Senator representing their senatorial zones and write to them, urging them to vote against this request. Do this, because it is you and your children that will pay back these loans that would be squandered by this ravenous cabal who do not have the word enough in their vocabulary”.

Buhari is truly the president for this moment – Tinubu

The All Progressives Congress (APC) National Leader, Sen. Bola Tinubu, says President Muhammadu Buhari has done much to place Nigeria on the pathway to a secure future.

Tinubu made the assertion in a statement to congratulate the president on his 77th birthday anniversary.

The statement was signed by Tinubu’s Media Adviser, Mr Tunde Rahman.

Tinubu said: “Joining the rest of the country, I extend my best wishes to President Muhammadu Buhari on his birthday.

“This special day gives us an opportunity to personally thank you for the contributions you have made to the development of our nation.

“Throughout your public life, you have shown yourself to be a man of hard work, dedication and principles.

“You have exhibited that rare combination of a simple and modest lifestyle coupled with an ambitious and grand vision for our nation.

“As the president, you have done much to place us on the pathway to a better future.”

Tinubu said that the current administration had been one of momentous achievement and the realisation of hope and progress for Nigeria and the APC.

“A man of political courage, you have taken bold decisions that those before you knew were needed but avoided taking,” he added.

Bandits kill two Customs officers in Kogi

The Niger/Kogi Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has announced the death of two of its officers in active service.

The officers, whose names were given as Assistant Superintendents of Customs, Sunday Ohiremen, and Sunday Omale, were killed by bandits along the Lokoja-Okene Road in Kogi State.

Another officer, who was injured during the attack, was moved from the scene of the incident to the Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja, for medical attention and has been discharged.

The Public Relations Officer of the command, Lomba Benjamin, disclosed this to Northern City News in Minna on Tuesday.

“Officers of the Nigeria Customs Service are only implementers of the Federal Government’s policies, hence we urge every Nigerian citizen aggrieved about losing their goods to engage the services of the court rather than resort to violence and killing of family men, who are the breadwinners of their families while serving their nation,” Benjamin said.

He explained that the Niger/Kogi Command of the NCS had been in close contact with the bereaved families.

He added, “We are pained by the sad development and share in the grief of losing fellow officers, colleagues, brothers, husbands, fathers and the likes. We will continue to work with other sister agencies in identifying the bandits involved in the attack on our officers and anyone found guilty will be made to face the full wrath of the law.

“The Customs Area Controller, Abba-Kassim Yusuf, has paid a condolence visit to the families of the bereaved and assured them that the management will do everything within its power to bring the perpetrators of the crime to justice.”

Jeffrey Epstein's prison companion says he was heard 'ripping up sheets' in final hours

Jeffrey Epstein's prison companion has given intimate details of the billionaire paedophile's final days.

Bill Mersey, 68, was a prison confidant for inmates on suicide watch and spent hours speaking to Epstein in his cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in new York.

Speaking on today's Good Morning Britain, Mersey said he believes that Epstein did commit suicide because he knew he was "losing it".

He also spoke to a prisoner in the cell next to Epstein after he was taken off suicide watch who heard him "ripping up sheets".

Mersey explained that Epstein would talk about his powerful friends, including Donald Trump , but did not mention Prince Andrew.

He said: "[Epstein] was really a regular guy, nothing outstanding about him particularly. He didn’t strike me as distressed. He wasn't a whiner. He didn't complain about the conditions. The suicide cell is not a nice place to be. He seemed to adapt pretty well."

Mersey signed up for a job on suicide watch when he got to prison and was given four hours of training, which he claimed was "rather than hiring professionals".

One day he was assigned to Epstein and had to make notes in a log book while watching him.

Mersey said: "I pretty much know that he killed himself. His mindset was not really depressed. I felt like I should entertain him so he wouldn’t want to kill himself.

"Occasionally he’d drift off and look into the distance and I knew I was losing him. That he was thinking about 'oh my god I‘ll never get out. How am I going to handle this for the rest of my life?'"

The prison confidant revealed that Epstein did not speak about any alleged sex crimes or victims.

He explained: "He didn’t say anything. I did not discuss with him why he liked young women or underage girls. There were a lot of paedophiles at MCC.

"He didn’t strike me as one of them but it seems obviously he liked young girls for whatever reason."

Teacher 'cuts boy's hair in front of classmates because it's too long'

A teacher allegedly cut a 14-year- boy's hair in front of his classmates because she thought it was too long.

It's said the boy, known only as Elkhan N, was embarrassed by the alleged act last week."It is such a humiliation. He came home in floods of tears," his mum Gulnara Muntaeva said today.

"She cut his fringe really short and uneven in front of all of his classmates. Without his consent."

The teacher at the school in Pallasovka in the Volgograd Oblast region of Russia has reportedly apologised to Elkhan.

But he has become very reserved at home since.

His furious mum continued: "He came to me. I took a photo of him and he is still crying."

Ms Muntaeva described the boy as quiet and shy. She also said he usually avoids conflict.

It is unclear whether the teacher, whose name is not reported, will get fired or not or if an investigation has been launched.

It comes after a school in the UK banned a boy from the playground for his "extreme haircut".

And a school in Lancashire sent a boy home despite his mum claiming his haircut was "neat and tidy".

Kelly Smith was shocked when she found out teachers had ruled 14-year-old son Jason Kirkbride's short back and sides "inappropriate".

He was given detention and put into isolation with no breaks for three days when teachers deemed his number one grade cut was against school rules.

Hodgson Academy in Poulton-Le-Fylde, Lancashire, states in its appearance policy that boys should not have hair shaven shorter than a number two grade.

Pupils breaching those rules face detention or isolation until the hair grows out.

Kendall Jenner wages war on Kylie for stealing her handsome date

Kendall Jenner started war on Kylie when her sister stole her dashing date. The catwalk queen, 24, asked the cosmetics guru, 22, if they were fighting when the cosmetics guru posed with her handsome male friend Fai Khadra.

Clad in a plunging sequinned thigh-split number, Kylie linked arms with suited and booted Fai for a series of snazzy photographs.

All the stars were nailing their best outfits for P Diddy 's star-studded 50th birthday bash.

Over 100 Ebonyi women match n-ked to Govt house

Over 100 women between 50 and 80 years of age from Agubia Community in Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State stripped naked, in protest of the arrest of their children by security agents operating in the state.

However, the women whose intention was to meet with the governor, could not gain entrance into the government house.

The protest, which took place at about 11am on Monday, shocked some top government officials at the state house.

Daily Trust gathered that a bloody clash had erupted between two rival groups four weeks ago over which group should control a popularly motor park in the community.

The incident claimed many lives and left dozens wounded while property worth millions of naira were destroyed.

Mrs Mercy Nwali, who spoke on behalf of the women, said the crux of the protest was to demand urgent and amicable resolution of the matter as their lives and that of their family members had been in danger.

“What we demand is that all of them should come home so that we make peace. They shouldn’t be in town here and be terrorizing us in the village. We no longer sleep in our homes and we want government to intervene”, she explained.

Another aged woman, Mrs Juliana Nwali, told Daily Trust that three of her children; Mr. Igwe Nwali, Chikwendu and Chineme were among those in detention.

But it took the intervention of the State Commissioner for Internal Security and Border Peace, Hon. Stanley Okoro to pacify the women to vacate the government house gate.

“You know, you are our mothers. Our Governor was not happy to see you in this way and mood. So, whatever is the problem, I assure you, it will be resolved not later than today’, he said.

It was also observed that the women bluntly refused to collect money released to them nor enter the bus provided by the government to convey them back to Agubia Community.

EFCC fetes man who sells sachet water in corporate wear

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Monday celebrated a young man, who hawks sachet water wearing suit, Micheal Iloduba.

While announcing Iloduba as its “#YoungNLegit Pick of the Week” on Twitter, the anti-graft agency described him as a “determined guy.”

EFCC tweeted, “Meet Michael Iloduba @AuthenticMiche3, the guy who dresses in corporate wears to sell bottle water called Corporate Water. Not deterred by limitations around him, he is determined to make a difference.”

The agency also shared pictures of Iloduba selling sachet water and a Corporate Affairs Commission’s certificate showing that his business had been registered.

Illoduba, who is a National Diploma holder, sells pure water in major markets on Lagos Island – CMS, Apogbon, Mandilas, Balogun, Tinubu Square and Idumota.

In an interview with The Punch, Illoduba said he wore suit to sell sachet water to attract more customers.

He said, “I was inspired to sell ‘pure water’ dressing corporate because we are in Lagos and for you to make it out of the entire stress, you have to package your business in a way that attracts more audience.

“So, I thought of selling pure water in a different way by dressing corporately to attract more customers to my business.

“I make about N2500 daily, selling about 30 bags of pure water and 10 to 15 packs of bottled water.”

When asked how his parents felt seeing him selling sachet water, Iloduba added, “When I started this business, I could not tell my parents because I was scared that they might not agree to it.

“They later found out that I was selling pure water through one of my pictures on social media and my mother was quite happy with the fact that I distinguished myself.”

Baby born with half a heart receives life-saving Christmas organ donation

This Christmas Day, like many parents, Anouska and Chris Wardale will help their two-year-old son Reggie unwrap his presents.

But this year, the Wardales will have more reason than most to celebrate.

Last month Reggie, who was born with half a heart, was only hours from death when the family heard a donor organ had suddenly become available.

Now his parents have been given the best Christmas present ever – their son is healthy and recovering well.

“We’re celebrating every day, because each day is one we didn’t think we’d have with Reggie,” says Anouska, 26, from Kirkby Stephen, Cumbria.

Before Reggie came along, she and Chris, 27, longed for a baby, but struggled to conceive. So when she fell pregnant in March 2017, the couple were over the moon.

“We couldn’t believe it was happening,” says Anouska, who at the time worked in a cafe.

Then, at her 20-week scan, they were dealt a devastating blow.

The sonogram showed there was something wrong with the baby’s heart.

They were referred to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle – two hours’ drive away – for a more in-depth foetal scan.

There they were told their baby had hypoplastic left heart syndrome – a rare congenital heart defect.

Only 250 babies a year in the UK are born with the condition.

The Wardales were told that little Reggie would need a series of open-heart surgeries, and would eventually need a transplant.

“We were devastated,” says Anouska.

Doctors gave the couple three options – they could carry on with the pregnancy and surgeries to give him the best chance at life, they could choose to terminate the pregnancy or refuse medical intervention when he was born.

But for them, there was only one option. Anouska says: “Although it’s a very rare condition, the doctors told us that they see a lot of children with hypoplastic left heart syndrome in that hospital, and that gave us comfort.

“It was never really a choice – we just knew we didn’t want to terminate. We wanted to give the baby a chance to live.”

At 39 weeks pregnant, she was induced and Reggie was rushed to the nearby Freeman Hospital, also in Newcastle, for his first open-heart surgery.

“We were in bits – it was very tough,” says Anouska.

The following morning, before his surgery, she and Chris held their baby for the first time.

“It was an amazing feeling, but it was tinged with sadness knowing he would soon go into surgery,” she says.

At just two days old, Reggie had an operation called the Norwood procedure, which helps get blood from the heart to the rest of the body and ensures blood flow from the heart to the lungs.

The surgery was a success and just three weeks later Reggie was discharged to be monitored closely at home.

He was fed through a nasogastric tube every three hours.

“We’d take it in turns to do the feeds, so we both had at least six hours’ sleep,” says Anouska.

Reggie seemed to be progressing well, but when he was a few months old, his blood oxygen levels dropped to dangerous levels and he was rushed back to hospital.

In April 2018, at five months old, he had further open-heart surgery to repair a leaky valve, and spent 10 weeks in a high-dependency unit.

By January 2019, he was well enough for another operation to repair his heart – the Glenn procedure, which diverts blood from the upper body straight to the lungs, meaning it can pick up oxygen without going through the heart.

Although the surgery went well, doctors found Reggie’s leaky valve, which had been repaired last year, was leaking again and he was forced to spend another 10 weeks in hospital.

Despite having his name on the urgent transplant list, his parents knew that donor organs for children were rare.

There was a chance that their son wouldn’t survive long enough to have the operation.

“The only thing the doctors could do was to give him medication and oxygen,” says Anouska.

“He was on maximum diuretics to help with fluid retention and three types of heart medication just to keep him stable for as long as we could.”

She moved into special accommodation for parents of ill children, provided by the Sick Children’s Trust.

Meanwhile, Chris was forced to make a four-hour round trip between their home in Cumbria and the hospital between shifts as a parcel delivery driver.

Meanwhile, Anouska tried to keep herself busy.

“You learn to exist,” she says. “I did as much as I could for Reggie by feeding him in the hospital to keep myself occupied. That’s how I coped.”

Then one afternoon, the transplant co-ordinator came to Reggie’s bedside to say that there was a potential new heart available.

“I just burst into tears,” says Anouska. “I was relieved but cautious.

“I called Chris and he rushed to the hospital. The whole afternoon was a blur.”

At 10.30 that evening, Reggie went into surgery, while his parents tried in vain to get some sleep.

“We had to leave him at the theatre doors. It felt very strange,” says Anouska.

After a sleepless night, they got the call they’d been waiting for– the operation had been a success.

By 7am, they were meeting with the surgeon, who explained that Reggie had stayed off life support during the surgery, which was hugely positive.

He was put on anti-rejection medication.

“We tried to just take it hour by hour,” Anouska says.

Reggie’s condition slowly improved and within days he was sitting up listening to his parents reading him stories.

As the time rolled by, he was able to eat unaided and start taking his medications orally.

Although it’s still early in his recovery, the family hope he will be well enough to be home for Christmas.

“But wherever we are, we’ll be celebrating,” Anouska says.

“This is a Christmas we didn’t think he’d see.”

The family are working with the British Heart Foundation, and hope that one day medical advances will mean that families of children with hypoplastic left heart syndrome won’t suffer the same trauma as they have.

Meantime, they can look forward to a bright future with their little boy.

“We’re really grateful to the donor family for making that life-saving decision to donate,” says Anouska.

“We feel so lucky that our little boy gets a second chance at life.”

Man hires kidnappers, kills brother’s seven-year-old boy after N300,000 ransom

A 34-year-old man, Faruq Seidu, allegedly contracted three men to abduct his brother’s seven-year-old child, AbdulMalik Musa, and killed him after collecting a ransom of N300,000.

The deceased was reportedly kidnapped last Wednesday from his parents’ residence at Sabo Ilupeju, Abeokuta, Ogun State, by the syndicate in connivance with Seidu.

Seidu and the suspected kidnappers, Hassan Hussein, 30; Habib Nurah, 24; and Muhammed Bello, 42, were arrested by men of the state police command and paraded on Monday at the crime scene, beside the Ogun River, Lafenwa, Abeokuta, where the boy was allegedly strangled and thrown into the river.

The suspects took the police to the crime scene, where the remains of the boy were found floating on the water.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who paraded the suspects, described the incident as man’s inhumanity to a fellow man.

He said investigation revealed that Seidu contracted his three friends to execute the heinous act because of the refusal of his brother, the father of the deceased, Abdul-hammed Musa, to give him money to marry a third wife.

Oyeyemi explained that Seidu and his accomplices had initially demanded N5m ransom, but later reduced it to N300,000 due to the plea by the victim’s father.

According to the PPRO, the incident happened on December 11, 2019, when the parents reported at the Sabo Police Station in Ilupeju, Abeokuta, that the boy had been kidnapped.

Oyeyemi said AbdulMalik was killed because he recognised his uncle, Seidu, who was afraid of being exposed.

He stated, “This is a breakthrough in respect of an abduction and murder; what happened here is the height of man’s inhumanity to man.

“On December 11, 2019, a case of abduction was reported at the Sabo Division in Ilupeju, Abeokuta.

“About 24 hours later, the kidnappers made a request for N5m and we asked the family to play along with them and later they agreed to take N300,000 and after payment, they still killed the boy and threw his corpse in the river.

“I want to appeal to members of the public to trust nobody, because if a brother could do this to his brother, then who can be trusted?

“But, I want to sound a serious warning to criminals in the state and I will be borrowing from the words of the governor, who he said hell fire would be more conducive for criminals than Ogun State.”

The prime suspect, Seidu, claimed to be innocent of the crime.

“I never asked anyone to kidnap my brother’s son, I only saw this one (pointing to another suspect) with the boy on a motorcycle, but I never discussed anything with them; I only greeted them and left,” he stated.

Seidu’s regular motorcyclist, Hussein, however, faulted him by claiming that he contracted them to abduct the boy before he personally killed him on the grounds that he recognised him.

Hussein said while pointing at Seidu, “He is a brother to Alhaji (the deceased boy’s father). He said he wanted to marry a new wife and Alhaji did not want to give him money; so, he asked us to kidnap the boy.

“After Alhaji gave us the ransom, Seidu came and said he was going to kill his nephew, because the boy recognised him and I asked him why, but he never answered me.

“When Seidu collected the ransom, he handed it over to me after he had removed N5,500.

“He wants to marry a new wife after he lost his first wife and divorced the second.

“The boy knew Seidu very well; whenever he was in the boy’s house, AbdulMalik would run to greet him. He gave him biscuit before he took him away on the day of the kidnap.

“He told me that he would kill the boy and he threw his corpse into the river from the bridge.”

When asked where he was when the boy was killed, Hussein claimed that he did not follow Seidu, adding that he was only informed by the boy’s uncle after he had killed him.

Drama at a funeral as families of two step-brothers fight over land

A step-brothers row over land in Ngorika, Nyandarua County, Kenya escalated on Monday leading to a dramatic burial, all to beat a court order barring the funeral.

Samuel Munyua had been granted a court order to stop the burial of his step-brother, Elijah Kogi, on the land they had been fighting over for years.

Munyua told the court that his brother’s family were illegal settlers on the expansive land and that he is the sole trustee.

But Kogi’s family hurriedly buried him before Munyua could serve them with a court order he had obtained in a local court barring the burial until the case was heard and determined.

Amid bad roads which hampered their movement, Kogi’s family carried his casket 4km to the burial site and interred his remains.

According to the deceased’s brother, Laban Mwangi, the family was once united but their troubles erupted after their father died.

Their father had had two wives and soon after his death, the two households started squabbling over his land.

Though the court issued a stay order barring their eviction, Mwangi accused their step brother of frustrating their efforts to inherit their father’s land.

Kogi’s wife, Hannah Njeri, said long before her husband died they had been attacked several times hence the reason they hurriedly buried him. The deceased’s uncle, Eliud Kimani, said the family can end their wrangles if they soften their stance and allow for mediation.

The 37-year-old has been bombarded with criticism since her royal wedding to Prince Harry back in 2018, being trolled for everything from the colour of her nail varnish to the way she held baby Archie.

Meghan herself has admitted how hard life has been for her since joining the royal family in an emotional interview with ITV in South Africa.

Speaking with Tom Bradby for a documentary called Harry & Meghan: An African Journey, the Duchess held back tears as she admitted she's "not OK" and had found the past year "really challenging".

The Queen also made the top three, being acknowledged for the strife she's had to deal with this year, from the Prince Andrew scandal to Boris Johnson asking her to suspend parliament.

Similarly 16-year-old Greta Thunberg has received a lot of backlash (including from US President Donald Trump ) on her efforts to protect the planet and drive awareness around climate change.

A spokesperson for  PlayOJO said: "We’re keen to re-address the 2019 balance and not only acknowledge Meghan Markle's tumultuous year, but offer her some respite.

"Whatever you think of her, the majority of us Brits clearly agree on one thing - she’s had a pretty tough year.

"Ever since her relationship with Prince Harry became public, she has become the victim of severe and often unjustified criticism. It’s no surprise the nation thinks she’s been the most unfairly treated person of 2019”

Newborn baby dies after doctors fail to catch him when mum pushed

A newborn died after doctors failed to catch him when his mum pushed him out. Grieving father Claudio Mondragon said he had witnessed the tragedy as his wife Stefania gave birth to their son Valentino.

An investigation was underway today into the incident at a hospital in the Argentinian city of Gualeguaychu, a three hour drive north of the capital Buenos Aires near to where the couple live.

The baby boy was transferred to a specialist hospital in the nearby city of Parana, but he was pronounced dead before arrival.

Claudio, 29, told local paper El Dia: “My wife was in labour and was just about to have the baby and they asked her to push and she pushed so he would come out.

“He came out really fast and no-one grabbed him and he fell to the floor.

"The midwife didn’t have time to catch him and the obstetrician didn’t react.

“The only thing they did was lift him up from the floor and put him in an incubator and take him to another hospital.”

The freak accident happened last Thursday afternoon in a clinic called Sanatorio Pronto in Gualeguaychu.

The baby boy died as he was being taken to San Roque Hospital in Parana.

The investigation, led by a local state prosecutor, will determine if his death is the result of medical negligence and whether anyone should face criminal charges.

Valentino, whose 26-year-old mum Stefania was 37 weeks pregnant when she gave birth, has already been buried by his grief-stricken parents.

A preliminary autopsy is said to have concluded the baby boy died from a head injury consistent with a fall.
