Shekau Will Be Accepted If He Surrenders - Military

The military says it will accept the offer of the leader of Boko Haram, Abubakar Shekau to surrender. It said that if Shekau follows the laid down procedures for surrendering during conflict or war, the military will profile him according to international standard.

The Coordinator of the Directorate of Defence Media Operations (DDMO), Major General John Enenche, disclosed on Friday during an interview on Channels TV that “Shekau’s recently released videos are subjected to forensic analysis. There are rumours that they are ready to surrender. If the insurgents truly want to surrender, there is a procedure to do that. If he (Shekau) surrenders through the procedure, we will accept it."

It would be recalled that the Military authorities recently said that with the grand offensive mounted by the Armed Forces of Nigeria against Boko Haram and the Islamic State for West African Province (ISWAP), the body language of Shekau, is that of surrender.

Meanwhile the military through the Air Task Force of Operation LAFIYA DOLE, said it destroyed compounds housing Boko Haram terrorists’ leaders at Bulawa in Sambisa Forest, Borno State. In a statement signed by Major General Enenche, the air strikes were executed on 21 April based on credible human intelligence reports as well as Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance missions that led to the identification of the target compounds within the settlement.

He said fighter jets dispatched by the Air Task Force to take out the compounds accurately hit the target area leading to the destruction of some of the structures as well as the neutralization of some of the terrorists occupying the compounds. He noted that Boko Haram fighters, who attempted to reposition to engage the attacking aircraft, were mopped-up in follow-on attacks by the jets.

How They R*ped and Initiated Us - Two Girls Cry Out

Two young ladies who gave their names as Nzube and Chidinma respectively are now full of regrets as what was meant to be a friendly outing later turned out to be a nightmare they will not forget so soon.

In a viral clip, the girls alleged that some men who had promised to take them out for drinks instead took them to an isolated area, blindfolded, forced them to join a cult group, tortured, and r*ped them.

The victims also alleged that the gang threatened to kill them if they refuse to pay for the services of initiation, a situation that led the two ladies to make a pledge of N3000 and N4000 respectively to gain their freedom.

Trouble however started when one of the gang members was lured to collect the initiation fee, a situation that led to his arrest.

During interrogation according to Abn tv, he alleged that one of his friends who is dating one of the two ladies had informed him that the ladies are interested in joining the secret cult.

According to him, the practice in his cult is that before any lady is initiated, the rest members will have canal knowledge of her, a situation that he claimed necessitated the r*pe of the ladies.

Arik Air reportedly cuts workers salaries by 80 percent

Coronavirus is ravaging Nigeria’s aviation industry forcing flag carrier Arik Air to take drastic measures as it cut off 80 per cent in the salaries of all workers for April, 2020.

The decision to cut salaries, sources close to the carrier said was a fall out of careful deliberation and analysis by the management and entire organization for the month of April 2020.

It was learnt that effective May 1st 2020, no less than 90 per cent of staff will proceed on leave without pay until further notice.

The source hinted that position will be reviewed on a monthly basis as communications on further developments will be shared by the Human Resources department as the situation evolves, The Nation reports.

Landlord removes tenant’s roof, door over unpaid rent amid Coronavirus lockdown [photos]

A Kenyan landlord has removed his tenant’s door and roof over inability to pay rent amid the coronavirus lockdown. This is against a Government order.

This comes after President Uhuru Kenyatta urged landlords in the country to reduce monthly rent for as many were struggling financially because of the global pandemic.

39-year-old Jane Wamucii, a mother of three told Nairobi News on Thursday that her landlord decided to send her packing from her one room apartment without granting her an eviction notice.

Ms Wamucii said ;

“I have lived in this house for close to two years now and I have never had any difference with my landlord. My children were at home when the owner came and removed the iron sheets and door. I came and found that it was true.

“It is raining heavily and I fear that my children could contract diseases. Well, I have been trying to reach out to him but in vain. The landlord and other individuals stormed the house and took away my foodstuff and other household items. We have been sleeping on the floor and we can’t bear the cold.”

Ms. Wamucii, who has bar said she hasn’t been able to cater for her family following the country’s nationwide lockdown to combat the Coronavirus pandemic.

Few days ago, the Landlords and Tenants Association (LATAK) in Kenya directed all tenants to stop paying their rents until further notice due to the impact of Coronavirus pandemic.

The association’s Secretary-General Ben Liyai said: ‘‘LATAK directs all tenants not to pay rent until when President Uhuru Kenyatta orders businesses to resume normal operations,” said Liyai.

Sunlight can kill coronavirus 'within minutes', US Homeland Security study claims

Sunlight can kill coronavirus ‘within minutes’, the US Department of Homeland Security has claimed.

The department claims to have carried out research that shows that high humidity, temperatures and sunlight can kill the virus on both surfaces and in the air.

Bill Bryan, DHS Science and Technology Advisor, said: “Our most striking observation to date is the powerful effect that solar light appears to have in killing the virus on surfaces and in the air.

“We’ve seen a similar effect as well where increasing the temperature and humidity or both is generally less favourable to the virus.”

In the study, the researchers looked at the virus’ half-life - the time taken for it to reduce to half its amount - in different environments.

When the temperature was 21-24°C, the half-life was 18 hours, but when the humidity was increased to 80%, the half-life dropped to six hours.

Meanwhile, in the presence of sunlight, the half-life topped to just 1.5 minutes, according to the researchers.

While the findings were praised by US President Donald Trump, they have not been made publicly available, raising concerns about their validity.

Speaking on MSNBC, Dr Irwin Redlener, director of the National Center for Disaster Preparedness at Columbia University, said: “'Everything that this scientist talked about from Homeland Security was basically incoherent, nonsensical, not really supported by evidence and really quite contrary to a lot of things we do know.”

Meanwhile, the World Health Organisation has warned that sunlight does not prevent coronavirus.

It explained: “Exposing yourself to the sun or to temperatures higher than 25C degrees DOES NOT prevent the coronavirus disease.

Abba Kyari Appeared To Me In My Dream, Our Last Contact – Femi Adesina

He told us he would be back at his desk soon. I believed it. But now, it would never happen. Not tomorrow, not next week, not forever. Chief of Staff to the President, Mallam Abba Kyari, has gone the way of all flesh.

Our last contact was on Friday, March 20, 2020. President Muhammadu Buhari was scheduled to meet with the Chairman of Ecowas Commission, Jean-Claude Kassi Brou, by 3p.m. Such meetings hold in the diplomatic room of the presidential office complex.

The protocol is that aides invited to attend any meeting must be seated 15 clear minutes before the President walked in. I was in the diplomatic room at the required time. A seat had been designated for me, next to that of the Chief of Staff.

Few minutes later, Mallam Abba (as he was often called by us) walked in. I rose to greet him.

Femi, how are you? They have said we should not shake hands again,” he responded. Rather jocularly, he extended his right foot. I touched his foot with my own, and we both laughed. Leg-shake, instead of handshake.

At the dot of 3 p.m (he does it like clockwork, the grand old soldier) the President walked in. We all rose to welcome him, as we would normally do.
The Ecowas Commission boss had come to discuss the ensuing constitutional crisis in Guinea Conakry, which was to hold election that weekend. After 10 years in office, and at 82 years of age, President Alpha Conde, had insisted on running for another term in office, and he tinkered with the country’s Constitution to make himself eligible. The opposition was having none of it, and there was civil disobedience, in which some lives had been lost.

President Buhari is the immediate past Chairman of Ecowas Authority of Heads of State and Government, and a highly respected figure in the sub-region. The Ecowas Commission boss had come to consult him on the way forward for Guinea Conakry.

The meeting lasted for about 30 minutes, during which the situation in Guinea-Bissau had also come up briefly.

When we rose, I had my opinion on what to do about the matters discussed. I consulted with Mallam Abba, and he agreed completely with me. I took my leave, headed back to my office.
Walking right behind me was the Chief of Staff, flanked by Director General of the National Intelligence Agency, and my colleague in the media office, Mallam Garba Shehu. They were chatting.

After I passed through the security screening point that would see me turn off to my office, I looked back instinctively. Why did I do it? I didn’t know, still don’t know. But it turned out to be my last view of Kyari. He was laughing as he talked with the two people beside him.

That glance I took turned out to be the very final. About 72 hours later, Mallam Abba was diagnosed with the deadly Coronavirus, which sent him sadly on a journey of no return.

Catching COVID-19 (as the inelegant virus has been elegantly codenamed by World Health Organization) is not supposed to be a death sentence. I had no doubt that Mallam Abba would beat the infection, and be back at his desk soon, as he had promised. I prayed for him a number of times in the following three weeks.
On Tuesday, April 15, the President was billed to receive a delegation from the European Union by noon. As I walked into the Presidential Villa, I met a personal staff of the Chief of Staff.
“How’s Chief?” I asked.
He told me he was doing well. And that was what we believed.

I’m not much of a dreamer. At least, not dreams with significance. Dreams come from a multitude of business, as the Good Book says, so if a man drinks a bowl of garri before going to bed, and he dreams of swimming in a pond or river, he actually started swimming right from inside that bowl of garri.

On Thursday night inward Friday, I dreamt. The President and myself were in a corridor in the Presidential Villa, and he was talking with me. Suddenly, by my right, I saw a figure waiting for me to finish with the President. It was Mallam Abba, clad in his usual white native attire, with the trademark red cap. But this time, there was no flowing Agbada, which I found rather odd. He never (or rarely) appeared without the flowing robe. He was heavily bearded, another surprise, and the beard was all white. I rounded off discussion with the President, and yielded space for the Chief.

I made nothing of the dream, but after he died, I shared my experience with my friend, Mallam Garba Deen Mohammed.

“He came to say goodbye to you, and you didn’t know it,” my friend said. I didn’t know till then that Garba Deen had the uncommon gift of interpretation of dreams. Well, I now know where to go the next time I dream.

On Friday, April 17, I uncharacteristically went to bed after listening to the 8 p.m news. And off I went, for “He giveth his beloved sleep.” No dream, no kakiri kakiri (wandering) in my sleep. Till my phone fetched me from a far distance, out of that deep sleep. It was 12. 05 a.m.
At the other end of the line was a senior aide of the President. He told me he was there with two other very prominent personalities, whom he named. Then he dropped the bomb.

“Mallam Abba is dead, and we need you to issue a statement informing the public.”
I sprang from the bed, with my head almost touching the ceiling. Sleep fled completely from my eyes. Abba Kyari dead? How? When? Where? But he promised us he would soon be back at his desk. This was sad, sad, sad.

I put the statement together. And in the process, I had a feeling of deja vu. I remembered that day in September 2014, as I had typed the press statement announcing the death of Dimgba Igwe, my boss, my friend and brother, who had got knocked down by a hit and run driver, as he jogged on the road in Okota area of Lagos. I had worked under Igwe as a reporter for years, and as editor of The Sun Newspaper, while he was Deputy Managing Director/Deputy-Editor-in-Chief, before retirement.

As I typed the announcement of Kyari’s death, I remembered that day in August 2015, when I’d been directed to announce his appointment as Chief of Staff. Ironically, the lot to announce his death also fell on me. The job of a spokesman!
From the time I issued the statement about 12.30 a.m Friday, my phone never stopped ringing for hours. In this era of fake news, people want to reconfirm everything from source. Despite signing the statement, and putting it in different platforms of traditional and digital media, everybody who had access to me must call. My two phones rang simultaneously and ceaselessly, just as there was no let up on email, Facebook Messenger, Skype, and many other platforms. It was a burden I had to bear. Not a wink of sleep till the very next night.

I was home, planted in front of the television as Kyari was being buried at Gudu Cemetery. It all looked surreal. Yes, the man had a frail health at the best of times. But death? It didn’t sound probable, though nobody actually knows when the Grim Reaper could come calling.
As I watched Mallam Abba being consigned to Mother Earth, my childhood thoughts came roaring back. What if he had only lost consciousness, and he regained it after sand had been heaped on him? What if he felt so much heat, and he could not move or shout? Oh, the lot of mortal man. Doomed to die, whether he liked it or not.

I thought of Mr President. I knew his pain, his torture, but which he would bear stoically, with equanimity. I’d seen him respond to the news of death of his allies, one of the most recent being that of Professor Tam David-West last November. I saw the silent pain, the grief, the total submission to the perfect will of God. That of Mallam Abba was not different, if not more poignant. A friend of about 42 years, and Chief of Staff for about five years. Now gone!

Mallam Abba headed the bureaucracy of the Presidential Villa, and we constantly had things to do together. Almost daily. He had his strengths, and his weaknesses. We all do. But my greatest plus for him was his loyalty to our principal. It was never in doubt. And for me, if you love Buhari, all your sins are forgiven. If they are like scarlet, they become white as snow. If they are red like crimson, they become white as wool. That is me, no apologies.

I have read majority of the things written about Kyari. Positive and negative. I love the balanced one by Works and Housing Minister, Babatunde Raji Fashola: “I bear testimony to his dedicated execution of the Presidential Infrastructure Development Fund (PIDF) initiative, which guaranteed funds to cash-strapped projects like the Second Niger Bridge, the Abuja-Kano Highway, the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, the Mambilla Hydro Project, and the East-West Road…

“Like all of us, Abba was flawed but he was not conceited. We disagreed but I never found Abba disagreeable.”

Infrastructure would be one of the strongest achievements of the Buhari government by the time it exits in 2023. There’s no way those great projects would be counted, without the name of Kyari being mentioned. Or the rice and fertilizer revolution, and agriculture generally. He was the moving force behind most of them, translating the vision of the President into action. The good he did will live after him. The weaknesses have been interred with his bones.

Some people, particularly on social media, have rejoiced about the passage of the Chief of Staff. They are of all men most miserable. Really to be pitied. I recommend to them the poem, The Glories of Our Blood and State, by James Shirley:
“There is no armor against Fate;
Death lays its icy hands on kings;
Sceptre and Crown
Must tumble down,
And in the dust be equal made
With the poor crooked scythe and spade.”
Those gloating are mere mortals. We all have our different appointments with death. May it only be in the fullness of time is our prayer. But nobody has control over it.

I also point those misguided minds to the Good Book, in Psalms 62:9: “Surely men of low degree are vanity, and men of high degree are a lie. In the balances they will go up; they are together lighter than vanity.”

Rejoice not at any man’s death, because all men, whether of low or high degree, are vanity and a lie.

Abba Kyari sleeps, till the great day of awakening, after what Shakespeare calls “life’s fitful fever.” He contracted the deadly virus on an official trip abroad. So, he died in the line of duty. He has done his own. You too, do your own. For God, for country, and for humanity.

- Femi Adesina is Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to President Buhari

The incident which happened at about 5pm at Eneka in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state caused pandemonium in the community.

Nollywood Actress Caroline Danjuma Sacks Househelp While She's Treating Coronavirus

A domestic worker, Oyindamola Alexander, has lost her job while being treated for the coronavirus disease, which she claimed to have contracted from her boss’ son.

It was learnt that while Oyindamola was receiving treatment at the Lagos isolation centre in Onikan, hee boss, popular actress, Caroline Danjuma allegedly threatened to arrest her.

Oyindamola, who was discharged on April 20 after testing negative, said she was depressed by the allegations made against her by the celebrity, who also threatened to sue her over a missing laptop.

The victim alleged that her ordeal started after Danjuma’s 11-year-old son returned from a high risk country, the United Kingdom, and started manifesting symptoms of COVID-19.

She stated that the boy’s parents, who were alarmed, contacted officials of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, who tested him and confirmed the positive status.

Oyindamola, a graduate of English and Literary Studies from the University of Ado Ekiti, said the health workers conducted tests on everyone in the house and she was among those who tested positive.

The 33-year-old explained that she was subsequently taken to the Onikan isolation and treatment centre.

Narrating the incident, she said, “When Danjuma employed me on March 11, 2020, she said I would supervise her domestic workers. She had a cleaner, a washer man, a driver and a cook. She said she noticed that things were not being properly done and she wanted me to coordinate them.

“A week to the lockdown, she asked if I had money for my family to stock up food. My parents are in Ekiti and my husband is in Benin, though we have some misunderstanding.

“I told her that I had yet to send money to them, but I believe that they would cope somehow. She said she would give me some money to help them. She then gave me N30,000 for which I was grateful. She never said it was my salary.”

Onyidamola added that some days later, her boss’ 11-year-old boy arrived from London.

“After coming into the country, he became ill and was tested by the NCDC; the result came in positive. Everybody in the house was tested. My boss, however, did not allow the cook to be tested. I don’t know her reason for that.

“My result came back positive and I went into isolation. I contacted my boss and asked when I would be paid for the month and that my mom was hypertensive and would need money. I told the doctors not to tell any member of my family. I knew there was nothing to panic about and that I would be fine.

“However, my boss started abusing me. She said what about the N30,000 she gave me when I had not even started working. She said the money was my salary for the month.

“She said she had been feeding me and my attitude was unbecoming, and as a matter of fact, I was no longer working with her and that I deserved what I was going through. She asked if she was the one who impregnated me.”

Oyindamola said she was surprised by Danjuma’s reaction and wondered why she did not show concern for her health.

She added, “My bed in the isolation centre was beside that of the cleaner, who also tested positive for COVID-19. Some days after, my boss told me that I had been fired and asked the cleaner and I to send our account numbers.

“She sent me N23,000 and N50,000 to the cleaner. She had apparently removed the N30,000 she gave me initially and the N7,000 she said was a refund for my missing money. She said I lied that my money was stolen.

“Two days later, she sent me a message on WhatsApp that her laptop was missing. I was fed up. I had never seen the laptop.

“She has been threatening me, saying she would get the police to arrest me. She said she had called my agent and that nobody should employ me. She said if I run away, she would post my pictures all over the social media with my details.

“While in isolation, what they did was to check our vital signs every day. That particular day, the nurse told me that my blood pressure had shot up. I later told the psychosocial agent, who was keeping a tab on me, all that had been happening.”

She noted that the social worker, who later spoke to Danjuma, said the actress threatened to sue her.

“Why is she frustrating and intimidating me? It was while working for her that I got exposed to this thing, and the other domestic worker is still in the isolation centre. Right now, I am afraid for the cook; he should be tested. Right now, I am stranded with nowhere to go. My drugs are in her place,” she added.

In the text message she sent to Oyindamola, the actress claimed that the domestic worker got infected after going out of the house without permission.

“When my boys came back, I ensured that everyone was properly protected and insisted that you did not come close to them. I was with my kids all through, but (tested) negative three times. Your ‘K’ deformed legs you were always using to go out without my permission on the basis of being my friend instead of a staff got you sick; you came home and infected Chioma,” the message read in part.

The actress reacts
Danjuma, in her reaction, described Oyindamola as a manipulator, adding that she was sacked for plotting to extort her.

She said she agreed to pay Oyindamola N60,000 monthly on compassionate grounds.

The actress noted that the domestic worker, whom she employed as a nanny, went out several times without permission, adding that the second domestic worker caught the virus, because she stayed in the same room with Oyindamola.

Danjuma noted that in a week, two domestic workers left the house because of Oyindamola’s oppressive attitude.

She denied that her son tested positive for the COVID-19, adding that no member of her family had the virus.

The celebrity also told PUNCH Metro that she isolated the child upon his arrival from London and called the NCDC for tests in line with the government’s directives.

She stated, “An innocent child! Should I call my son to tell you that Oyin is trying to blackmail him to extort money from his parents? My son is negative; we are all negative.

“Oyin does not work in the house. She orders people around. She is rude. I just cannot stay with her. She is not the only one working for me. I still have others. All others are still working for me and I am paying them.

“If she has COVID-19, is Lagos State not providing for her? You have COVID-19 and you are abusing me, are you possessed? You are saying all sorts of nonsense about me.

“Oyin started working with me on March 12 and she started showing some signs. She was always looking tired. You tell her to climb the staircase and she is breathing heavily. She later said she had ulcer.

“When somebody has gone through marital woes, all she needs is not to work for anybody. She needs a psychologist to tell her that the world is not against her.”

Danjuma added that less than a week after her employment, she paid Oyindamola N30,000 as part of her salary, wondering why she would think the money was a gift.

She also said she bought drugs for all her workers, including the COVID-19 survivor.

She added, “My children came back on March 23. I told the doctor to come and test them and they tested me as well. It was not because of anything. They were not sick. I took everybody for the test.

“Oyin has never been proud of working for me. She tells people I am her friend. She tells other workers that whenever I am not around, she is the boss. She wants to control them.

“I know how much I spent feeding three adults, who I don’t really need in my house, and the kids. I have tried. This woman is the most ungrateful soul I have seen. When she tested positive, I called an ambulance and I ensured that the estate did not know about it so that she is not stigmatised.

“She stayed in the main house and shared a room with the other girl. I was calling to check up on her and pray with her while in isolation. Then one day, she called and said she wanted to be paid. And I blasted her. And before you know it, she said she contracted COVID-19 in my house.

“I was surprised and I said which son? It was at that point that I went off on her.”

First Coronavirus Patients Injected In UK Vaccine Trial (Photos)

The world is anxiously waiting, hoping for the very best. The first human trial in Europe of a coronavirus vaccine has begun in Oxford.

Two volunteers were injected, the first of more than 800 people recruited for the study.

Half will receive the Covid-19 vaccine, and half a control vaccine which protects against meningitis but not coronavirus.

The design of the trial means volunteers will not know which vaccine they are getting, though doctors will.

Elisa Granato, one of the two who received the jab, told the BBC: "I'm a scientist, so I wanted to try to support the scientific process wherever I can."

The vaccine was developed in under three months by a team at Oxford University. Sarah Gilbert, professor of vaccinology at the Jenner Institute, led the pre-clinical research.

"Personally I have a high degree of confidence in this vaccine," she said.

"Of course, we have to test it and get data from humans. We have to demonstrate it actually works and stops people getting infected with coronavirus before using the vaccine in the wider population."

Prof Gilbert previously said she was "80% confident" the vaccine would work, and has now said she is "very optimistic" about its chances.
