From the video shared online, the veteran actor was a guest on a programme hosted by popular Yoruba radio talk show host, Kola Olootu.
During the programme, the popular script interpreter narrated how things started working against him when his home got burnt with all studio equipment worth N30million, and wife and children deserted him.
Amidst hot tears rolling down his cheeks, Chief Kanran noted that he was almost begging on the streets for food but for his status as a star.
According to him, he is not begging for the money to feed but for some money to start his work again as an artiste again.
“Seven years ago, things got bad for me. I was not ill and whatever will make me ill and people will start contributing for me, I thank God that it did not happen to me. However, what is currently happening to me is more than being ill. In 2017, my home got burnt from top to down and my wife and children deserted me.”
“My studio, where all my equipment are, also got burnt. Since the incident happened over a year ago, I have been sleeping in my church as I don’t have money to rent an apartment. Feeding has also been difficult for me. All my four cars are no longer with me. I sold one to feed, one got burnt, another one got knocked,” he said.
However, Nigerians were already supporting the veteran actor by sending money to his account number while some also promised to come to his aid.
The health agency revealed this in a late-night tweet.
The country now has a total of 54,247 confirmed cases, with 42,010 persons discharged and 1,023 deaths.
Plateau reported the highest number of cases with 116 while the Federal Capital Territory ranked second with 33 new infections.
Other states with new cases include Lagos-19, Ekiti-12, Kaduna-11, Ogun-11, Ebonyi-8, Benue-7, Abia-5, Delta-5, Ondo-4, Edo-3, Imo-2, Osun-2, and Bauchi-1.
Abayomi, who stated this on Tuesday on his official Twitter account @ProfAkinAbayomi, said the total number of confirmed COVID-19 infection in Lagos is now 18,131 as of August 29.
“One thousand, six hundred and ninety-six active cases in communities are yet to turn up for admission in #COVID19Lagos care centres.
“H21 new #COVID19 infections were confirmed in Lagos on August 29, out of a total 422 #COVID19 tests conducted, 2,378 of the confirmed cases have however been discharged from #COVID19 Care Centres following full recovery.
“The new cases bring the total number of confirmed #COVID19 infections in Lagos to 18,131.
“The total number of #COVID19 tests conducted so far in Lagos now stands at 85,782,” he stated.
Abayomi also added that 3,803 of the confirmed cases monitored in communities by COVID-19 Lagos Response Team have either fully recovered or positively responding to treatments.
“Fifty of the cases are currently under isolation in public and private care centres.
“In total, Lagos has conducted 85,782 samples for COVID-19, records 204 deaths as the number of confirmed cases stand at 18,131.
The Presidential Taskforce on Monday announced that the decrease in the nationwide COVID-19 cases was due to low testing.
James Lee Webb, 57, was arrested and charged with capital murder after calling the cops on himself on Monday.
Webb and his wife, Victoria Ronack Bunton, began arguing at around 10am this morning after he complained of having a headache and that her sons, aged 13 and 16, were being too loud, according to the affidavit.
During the argument Webb allegedly produced a handgun and shot Bunton, before killing both of the teenagers.
Webb waited one hour and then called 911 and confessed, the document states. When cops arrived they took him into custody.
When he was later interviewed, Webb allegedly told a detective that he was tired of his family yelling at him and telling him there was nothing wrong with him.
He is currently being held at Lew Sterrett Jail and his bond will be determined by a Dallas County Magistrate.
The people who were with her believed that she had been grabbed by a mermaid thus they didn’t try to rescue her.
Rutendo Nhemachena is believed to have been possessed by a mermaid spirit before she turned violent and jumped into the river where the leading prophet, Isaac Manyemba, 50, was cleansing men and women with his aide only identified as Mai Manyika or Madzimai Jennifer.
Manyemba and Manyika were reportedly overpowered by Nhemachena who plunged to her death.
Manyemba confirmed the tragic event saying Nhemachena overpowered him and seemed like she was possessed by a mermaid spirit.
“The two convinced me and I led them to the river where we attended to a number of men and women when Nhemachena suddenly came into the river possessed.
“She pushed all of us and we failed to handle her before she immersed me and disappeared into the water.
He said they believed she was abducted by a mermaid and they decided to wait for 3pm but she failed to show up
“We were comforted by one woman who claimed that her child was once taken by a mermaid when he was seven years old and returned from water at the age of 14.
Another person told them that her child had been grabbed by a mermaid as well and came back after one week.

The accident left two policemen attached to Oshiomhole’s convoy dead.
The crash happened when an articulated vehicle lost control and ran into Oshiomhole’s convoy near Oluku junction in the Ovia North-East Local Government Area of Edo State.
In a statement, his media aide Victor Oshioke, insisted it was an assassination attempt.
“It is pertinent to state, without fear of contradiction, that the convoy of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole was maintaining legal speed limits when this incident occurred.
“This explains why the trailer travelling in the same direction, overran the Hilux truck off the road and still hit the SUV carrying Comrade Oshiomhole, causing substantial damage.
“Without prejudice to police investigations, eyewitnesses account of the incident suggest, and we believe rightly too, that this was an assassination attempt, targeting Comrade Adams Oshiomhole,” part of the statement read.
The Edo state Governor, Godwin Obaseki, in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Communication Strategy, Crusoe Osagie, said: “I received the news of the accident with shock and commiserate with the former governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and the candidate of the APC in the forthcoming governorship election, Osagie Ize-Iyamu over the very unfortunate incident involving their security aides and top chieftains of the party in the campaign team.”
Obaseki prayed for “strength for the families of the deceased persons” and the “the quick recovery of those who were injured”.

The Chairman, Kebbi State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Alhaji Sani Dododo, disclosed this to newsmen in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday, NAN reports.
He said: “Just yesterday at about 10:30 a.m. there was an incident at Tungar-Gegero in Jega Local Government Area, where eight people lost their lives to canoe mishap.
“Women and children about 10 of them were onboard with only one operator, a middle-aged man and he was trying to transport the people to a naming ceremony.
“They have started the journey and crossed to the other bank of the stream successfully, but on their way back the canoe capsized and all the occupants were drowned in the water.”
He further explained that the operator was able to save two women, adding that the remaining eight including children were all drowned in the water.
According to him, the agency was able to recover four corpses comprising three adults and a baby girl, adding that search for the remaining bodies was still on.
“We are making frantic efforts to recover the remaining corpses, I have spoken to Sarkin Kafin Jega, who is the District Head of the area as well as the Council Chairman, Jega Local Government Area.
“In line with this, professional traditional fishermen have already been mobilised to search for the remaining bodies.
“They have started from that Tungar-Gegeru down to Kimba to Jega Bridge to Mungadi because all these places are in the same terrain of the water.
“Normally, if there is this kind of capsizing, you cannot find the bodies in the same place a day after, but such bodies may be recovered far away from the scene of the accident,” he added.
The chairman assured that so many hands had been engaged to ensure that towards the corpses are been found adding that the agency had sought for assistance from the Inland Waterways in recovering the bodies.
He said that the agency was also getting in touch with the local government authorities as well as the head of social mobilisation of the council.
He consoled the families of the victims urging them to take heart and accept the ugly incident in good faith while praying that God Almighty will give them the fortitude to bear the loss.

“We are sad to report that two police personnel in the Toyota Hilux truck lost their lives, while two others are in critical condition receiving treatment at a hospital in the state.”
It confirmed that “Oshiomhole and other persons in the convoy did not sustain any injuries” and that the case was has been reported at the Ekiadolor Police Station and investigations are ongoing.
This development led to a chaotic situation in the axis, as workers and other commuters were stranded in the early hours at various bus stops, following scarcity of buses. Many resorted to trekking.
The commuters, who were seen along Ikotun-Egbeda road, trekking, said the government should look into the commercial drivers’ complaints with a view to finding a lasting solution to the operations of the state task force.
A commuter narrates experience
Mrs. Funke Owolabi, a trader in Ikotun, expressed solidarity with protesters, describing the activities of the task force as “unfair and wicked act.”
She recalled: “It was around 6a.m. and I was on my way to my shop. I live in Iyana-Ipaja and do my business in Ikotun.
“At Olugbede area, men of the task force operating in an unmarked vehicle suddenly my intercepted our bus and forced the driver to submit the key of the bus.
“Without mentioning the particular offence committed, they ordered us (passengers) to disembark immediately, saying the bus has been impounded and will be taken to their office in Oshodi. We pleaded with them to leave the bus for God’s sake.
“They remained adamant and even threatened to arrest us if we refused to disembark.
“I was very angry because they did not tell the driver the infraction committed and also for delaying those of us hurrying to our various business destinations.
“The state government should immediately look into this shameful and corrupt practices by our law enforcement agents.”
The protesters
Some of the protesting commercial drivers were seen displaying placards with various inscriptions such as: “Lagos task force should stop harassing us”, “Enough is enough of extortion, illegal seizure of our buses”, “We are not armed robbers, we are legitimate workers,” among others.
The protesters alleged that task force officers often harassed and extorts their members, particularly along the axis.
Chairmen of Iyana-Ipaja, Egbeda and Ikotun were seen at various points ensuring the development does not degenerate into violence with law enforcement agents, who were deployed to ensure security.
Policemen from Idimu Division and Area “M” Command were seen patrolling the axis.
Everything under control—Police
A senior police officer, who spoke with Vanguard at the scene, said: “The situation is under control and there is no cause for alarm.”
He, therefore, implored residents to go about their normal business activities as adequate security has been put in place to ensure their safety.
Speaking to Vanguard, one of the protesting drivers, Abel Ayoade, accused the task force of illegal operation, adding “they come as early as 5a.m. most times and impounds our buses.
“They take the buses to their headquarters in Oshodi and collect between N50,000 and N40,000, based on negotiating power.
“So, we decided to withdraw our service today to protest the illegal activities as well as bring it to the attention of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and relevant authorities so that they could call the task force men to order.
“The harassment and extortion must stop, its getting unbearable. We have families to fend for. We are not armed robbers that is why we are doing legitimate work. Why are they after us all the time?
“During the then administration of Governor Babatunde Fashola, they were curtailed but they started these illegal activities during the immediate past administration and have extended it into the present administration of Governor Sanwo-Olu.”
However, Chairman, Lagos State Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences Unit (Task Force), Chief Superintendent Yinka Egbeyemi, had not responded to inquiries by Vanguard via SMS sent to his mobile, as calls were not going through.
This followed a meeting between the management of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) and the management of MultiChoice on Monday.
The commission had summoned MultiChoice over the planned increase on some DStv and GOtv packages which takes effect from today despite a similar increase three months ago.
According to MultiChoice, in a message to subscribers, DSTV Premium would move from N16, 200 to N18,400; Compact Plus from N10,925 to N12,400; Compact from 6,975 to 7,900, and for users of GOtv Max, they would have to pay the sum of N3,600 from 3,280.
The latest increase comes amid a subsisting order of the House of Representatives seeking a stay of action on the earlier hike which the company blamed on the Federal Government’s 2.5 percent increase in Value Added Tax (VAT) from five to 7.5 percent.
John Ugbe, the Chief Executive Officer of the company, said the decision to increase the prices was made after a careful consideration of the market and a review of its business operations.
He noted that the company reviewed its prices while considering financial impacts, including inflation, increased content and operational costs, so they could continue to survive as a business and bring quality entertainment to customers.
He said: “To arrive at the decision to adjust prices, we took into account many factors, including the impact on the customer, current inflation, which stands at 12.82 percent, the highest in 27 months, content costs and efficiencies within the company.
“Only the prices of some of the bouquets have been reviewed upwards while the lower bouquets have been left untouched.”
The planned increase, which did not go down well with many Nigerians, had prompted the NBC to summon the management of MultiChoice and Startimes, which also increased its tariff in August, to a meeting yesterday.
Speaking exclusively with Daily Independent on what transpired at the meeting yesterday, Armstrong Idachaba, the Director-General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), said the management of the MultiChoice cited currency devaluation and inflation rate as some of the reasons that necessitated the increase.
He also said the company said it might be forced to sack Nigerian workers in its employ, a development the Nigerian government vehemently kicked against.
According to Idachaba, “They said they are committed to keeping their business in Nigeria but are affected by currency devaluation and inflation rate.
“They said their fears are that they may lay off Nigerians in their employment if they have to remain in business.
“They gave examples of other companies that are folding up because of economic challenges.
“At the end of the day, we told them that no matter the excuse they have, we are not going to tolerate any loss of jobs. We frown heavily at any attempt to lay off Nigerians because of these excuses.
“Secondly, we are not tolerating any unnecessary price hike. We asked them how they intend to do the increase and they said they wanted to start with the Premium and then move gradually to the other packages.”
The BBNaija housemate vowed to interrupt and insult Laycon if he ever responds to any question about her from the anchor of the show, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu.
Erica disclosed this during a conversation with her love interest, Kiddwaya.
Expressing her disgust for Laycon, Erica vowed to treat him as if he doesn’t exist.
According to Erica: “I will treat him as though he does not exist, let me see what he would be saying about me.
“Next time, if Ebuka should ask a question and he has anything to say about me, I’m going to interrupt and insult him.
“I’m going to tell him I’m not interested in any relationship with him. He should just stop it. Everything he’s doing is making me lose the respect I had for him.”
Recall that Erica had claimed she’s responsible for Laycon’s fame in the show.
He is now an Ambassador of the Lagos Waste Management Authority.
He disclosed this on his Instagram page Monday.
