Boko Haram bomb maker arrested by DHQ

Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters said the troops of Operation Fire Ball have arrested one of the bomb makers for the Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists in the North East.

The arrest was made as Nigerian troops overran the terrorists enclaves.

The Acting Director, Defence Media Operations, Brig.-Gen. Benard Onyeuko, disclosed this on Sunday.

He said that the troops operating under Operation Lafiya Dole have continued aggressive clearance operations to identified terrorists’ enclaves.

Onyeuko said the troops on Nov. 11 embarked on an aggressive Fighting Patrol to clear Boko Haram elements in their hideout in Ladantar Village in Borno following a credible intelligence.

He said the troops subsequently engaged the terrorists with an overwhelming fire power forcing the terrorists to withdraw in disarray.

He said the troops also gave a hot pursuit and inflicted heavy casualties on the fleeing terrorists, killing two and captured one of their experts on Improvised Explosive Devices or bombs.

According to him, equipment captured were one box of service tools and one gas cylinder suspected to be for making IED.

Onyeuko disclosed that troops of Army Super Camp 19 Bitta successfully repelled the Boko Haram terrorists who attempted to infiltrate the heavily fortified camp.

He said that the troops forced the terrorists to withdraw in disarray due to superior fire power.

He added that the troops of 26 Task Force Brigade Garrison deployed in Gwoza on Nov. 8 observed terrorists advancing to their location in four gun trucks and unconfirmed number of foot soldiers.

According to him, the gallant troops engaged the marauding criminals with heavy fire power neutralising one suicide bomber while others flee in confusion.

Troops of 192 Battalion deployed in Gwoza also foiled an attempted attack on their location same day.

Trump says Biden won but again refuses to concede

Donald Trump has insisted he is not conceding the US election, despite seemingly acknowledging for the first time that Democrat Joe Biden had won.

"He won because the Election was Rigged," he wrote on Twitter but minutes later said he was not conceding that he lost the 3 November election.

Mr Trump also repeated unsubstantiated claims of widespread election fraud.

He has launched a slew of lawsuits in key states but has not provided any evidence to back his claims of fraud.

All the lawsuits have so far been unsuccessful.

On Friday, election officials said the vote was the "most secure in American history" and there was "no evidence that any voting system deleted or lost votes, changed votes or was in any way compromised".

Nevertheless, Mr Trump had refused to acknowledge Mr Biden's victory until - apparently - now.

Councillor arrested for battering elder brother’s wife in Rivers

Officers of River Police Command have arrested the leader of the Etche legislative assembly in the Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State, Blackson Nwanyawu, for allegedly brutalizing a mother of six over allegation of witchcraft.

The battered woman, Love Nwanyawu, told journalists that the Councillor who is her husband’ s younger brother, along with two others, beat her to a pulp over allegation that she is a witch and has been bringing misfortunes to the family .

With a badly battered , swollen face, lacerations and bruises on her head, Nwanyawu said her ordeal began when she traveled to her husband’ s hometown, Omualu community and overheard the Councillor, his sister and a male relative, shouting on top of their voices in an intense argument.

She said Blackson and other persons then accused her of witchcraft and vowed to deal with her.

“I was surprised. The next thing I saw was that the three of them came at me, saying I was disturbing them and that I was a witch. They said anytime I come back, the house would not rest. I said how?

“They pounced on me and gave me a beating of my life. Just look at me. Their plan was to eliminate me. After beating me and locking me up, one went outside, brought a chair and used it to hit my head twice. When he ( councilor ) saw that blood was gushing out, he drove off . Others also left. With the blood, I shouted for help. They all said their brother is a Councilor and Leader of Etche legislative Assembly and nothing will happen.

“I am calling for people to help me to seek justice. My husband , I trained him from secondary school to University. He lived with me for years when my children were small. I paid his last school fees and he promised that when he graduated, he would ensure my children did not suffer .

“I was asking him,’ is this the promise you gave me?’ Look at how he made me. He wanted to send me to an early grave,” Nwanyawu said.

She claimed her husband has been ill because he was traumatized by the incident.

In his reaction, the accused Councillor, in a telephone interview aired on a radio station ( Nigeria Info 92 .3 FM , Port Harcourt) claimed that his brother’s wife insulted him .

“The woman keeps insulting me every day, when I have not had any issue with her. Your father called me; I say I am not regretting my action. I have tolerated more than I can bear,” he stated .

Blackson claimed the victim has been disparaging his reputation in the social media and that he would seek redress in court for remedies.

He promised to honour a Police invitation on the matter and make himself available for Investigation.

“There is no point talking too much because these things happen when you are in public office”

In a press statement, by SP Nnamdi Omoni, the spokesman for the state police command , confirmed receipt of the complaint, saying the matter was being investigated .

Omoni said, “The report got to us and we have initiated action. A team has been put in place, the suspect is with us to answer questions over the allegations against him. I am the officer in charge of the human rights desk, so, I am investigating the matter.

Meanwhile, right advocacy groups are demanding justice for the brutalised woman.

Prince Wiro, a Port Harcourt based rights activist enjoined the Police to ensure that the woman gets Justice.

“It is inconceivable that a woman can be so beaten and battered because they feel that they are above the law. This is a clear case of human rights abuse all those involved should be prosecuted as a deterrent that nobody is above the law”.

Also the International Federation of Female Lawyers, FIDA, the Rivers State branch and members of the Rivers State Civil Society Organizations said they are closely monitoring case.

FG to feed and deworm children with N142.3 billion in 2021

In 2021, under the Home-Grown School Feeding (NHGSFP), the federal government has penned N142.3 billion to feed 9.86 million children, deworm seven million children and recount the pupils.

The proposed allocation for the NHGSFP accounts for 40.5 per cent of the total recurrent expenditure of the nation’s social investment programmes, NSIP, domiciled under the ministry of humanitarian affairs, which was established in 2019.

The proposed N142.3 billion is meant to cater to the feeding of about 10 million, deworming of seven million primary 1-3 pupils in 35 states and FCT and 60,000 out-of-school children, enumeration of pupils and training of cooks and farmers.

The National Assembly joint committees on poverty alleviation detailed this in a document exclusively obtained by Premium Times which the committees submitted to the Senate in October.

The ministry of humanitarian affairs also told the National Assembly that in the coming year, it would expand the NHGSFP programme to target additional five million children in conventional and non-conventional schools under the Alternate School Programme.

Also, N2.7 billion is planned to be used for the “purchase of feeding utensils, devices for capturing and aprons for cooks” for the feeding programme.

Neymar to sue Barcelona over €60M unpaid bonuses

Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar is prepared to sue former club Barcelona for a total of €60m over bonuses which the Brazilian claims not to have received.

The 28-year-old joined the Blaugrana back in 2013 but shocked the world when he decided to leave Camp Nou after only four years. Neymar became unsettled in Catalonia and paid his own buy-out clause in order to force a move to French giants PSG in 2017.

But Cadena Ser reports that the superstar is not finished with Barça just yet.

Neymar is demanding that the European heavyweights pay him the rest of a signing bonus which he feels he is owed, after putting pen to paper on a new contract prior to leaving the club. He has since stated this intention in writing, while his ex-club have impugned the claim.

The Brazil international is subsequently suing Barça for a further €43.65m, as his previous employers had originally paid him the first installment of €22m before he joined PSG. La Blaugrana argued that they did not need to stump up the rest of his bonus due to his decision to depart Camp Nou, and an initial court hearing sided with the club and ruled against Neymar.

However, that is not the end of this debacle. The former Santos star’s legal team appealed this decision on 4 August, and by 7 September Barça had contested this new approach.

The court believed that the renewal bonus was part of the player’s salary, and based on the amount of time that Neymar was at the club, he was obliged to pay back €6.7m euros to the former Spanish champions. Unsurprisingly, this has not gone down well in Paris.

US election: Biden cries out over denial of access to fund, security briefing

Joe Biden has cried out over the failure of the General Services Administration (GSA), to recognise him as President-elect

GAS is the government agency tasked with beginning the transition process immediately after a presidential election in the US.

Also, the Biden team has not been given access to classified security briefings and federal agencies.

The team has also been denied the funding needed to ensure a smooth transition of power.

Jen Psaki, Biden spokesperson said this development could affect Biden’s ability to govern.

“You need real-time information to deal with crises of the moment,” she said, according to BBC.

“It’s imperative that our team and our experts have that access,” she added.

Biden defeated Trump in the tight race to White House but the incumbent has refused to accept the result citing election fraud and corruption.

Trump has file a flurry of court cases challenging the Biden’s victory.

He recently expressed hope of being declared winner of the election, saying results that would be announced next week would put him ahead of the Democratic Party candidate.

EndSARS: Aisha Yesufu reacts to Army claims of no live ammunition at Lekki toll gate

Aisha Yesufu, popular activist and EndSARS promoter has reacted to a statement by the Nigerian Army that no live ammunition was fired at protesters at Lekki toll gate.

The Nigerian Army on Saturday, while appearing before the Lagos Judicial Panel of Inquiry and Restitution, yesterday, denied reports that its soldiers used live ammunition on peaceful End SARS protesters at the Lekki toll gate in Lagos State.

Recall that soldiers had on October 20, 2020 allegedly stormed the Lekki toll gate, venue of peaceful protest and reportedly shot and killed some of the demonstrators.

Popular Nigerian entertainer, DJ Switch had the situation recorded in her live Instagram session.

But, Brig.-Gen. Ahmed Taiwo, Commander of the 81 Division, Military Intelligence Brigade, Victoria Island, Lagos, said that soldiers fired blank ammunition into the air to disperse protesters, adding that there would have been more casualties if the 600m live ammunition normally used by the military were used on the End SARS protesters.

Reacting, Aisha queried the authenticity of the Army’s report as she wondered how the ‘blank ammunition’ killed protesters.

Aisha on her Twitter page wrote: “Who summoned the military that attacked us on the 13th of October 2020?

“Does that mean our @HQNigerianArmy is so cheap and unprofessional that they can be summoned without proper documentation? What the freaking hell!”
