Ronald Mutandagayi, the group chief executive officer of Zimbabwe Bank (ZB) Financial Holdings Group, has been caught on camera assaulting his wife.
He has now taken a leave of absence after the video went viral.
The video, shows Mutandagayi chasing his wife and striking her in the face. After Mutandagayi’s wife falls to the ground, the focus of the video changes and does not show what happened next. The footage is reported to have been taken by Mutandagayi’s 16-year-old daughter.
Following outrage at the footage, the financial services provider released a statement saying that Mutandagayi had taken a leave of absence from his duties. ZB Financial Holdings went on to say that the board of the financial services group is currently considering the “appropriate action” to take against its GCEO following the disturbing footage.
The statement released by ZB Financial Holdings in its entirety below;
“The board of directors of ZB Financial Holdings Limited has taken note of the social media communication relating to the Group Chief Executive Officer Mr. R. Mutandagayi which was published on the evening of 7 March 2021,” the banks said in a statement addressed to its customers.
“The matter in question is before the courts. In the meantime, Mr R. Mutandagayi has taken leave of absence from his duties while the board of directors of the group considers appropriate action on the matter.”
“Stakeholders will be advised of any new developments as they arise.”
However, Mutangadayi is disputing the events which appeared on the video footage insisting that he was defending himself. He claims that he was forced to defend himself after “three days of assault” from his wife.
He also questioned the timing of the damning video saying that the incident occurred two months ago. The business executive claimed that the video had been altered to work against him as it did not show the other events which transpired before and after he assaulted his wife.
“The unfortunate circumstances surrounding the incident happened on 2 January 2021 after three consecutive days of severe assault and harassment on my person. It is surprising that only two months later is when such a video is issued,” said Mutandagayi.
He added: “The bona fides of such action is questionable. Further, it is regrettable that the video only shows a certain portion of the incident obviously meant to sell a certain narrative. Since the matter is currently pending before the courts, I shall let the law take its course.”

A lady -- @tobismallz -- has narrated how she met a man on the ROAD... road o, and the man asked her not to drive for 4 days and also gave her his number. She said she obliged and later call the man on the phone.
Visions kept coming up and the man and his crew kept demanding money from her till she gave them the N3.2m in her account and started borrowing money from friends tp meet up with their demands.
The cat was however let out of the bag when she called her mom and tried to borrow money from her. Her mother sensed something was wrong, tricked her home and alas she came back to her senses.
She however said when she got her senses back, she wanted her money back and tricked one of them tp to her area in Lekki where he was picked up by the police and the matter is still on.
In my opinion you only gave her the gift because you know you can have access to it, once she packs her bags and you say please drop my gift, man please... you are poor! Lol.
So Davido's elder brother, Adewale Adeleke has also waded in on what seems to be the new trend now -- when a relationship packs up, the man asks for his gifts to be returned.
Anyway Wale says that's lame as hell and he has never done that, and never will.
And ofcus we agree with him. Lame! Lame!!! His reaction below...

Cristiano Ronaldo was presented with a special commemorative shirt by Juventus president Andrea Agnelli for breaking Pele's official goalscoring record of 767 goals.
The Juventus forward overtook the Brazilian's total last weekend by netting a hat-trick in his side's 3-1 victory Cagliari to take his own tally to 770 goals.
Before the Old Lady's Serie A fixture with Benevento on Sunday, Ronaldo was handed a shirt with 'G.O.A.T 770' on the back, claiming that the Portuguese forward is the 'Greatest Of All Time'.
World football governing body FIFA does not keep an official list of who has scored the most goals in history, so the top end of the list is hotly contested.
Ronaldo was praised at the start of January for eclipsing Josef Bican's total but the Czech FA claimed the striker actually scored 821 goals following a review of his statistics during a career spanning from 1931 to 1955.
But the Portuguese forward decided ignored these claims and took to social media to praise Pele for the legacy he created.
Ronaldo put on Instagram: 'Today, as I reach the 770th official goal in my professional career, my first words go straight to Pele.
'There's no player in the world who hasn't been raised listening to stories about his games, his goals and his achievements, and I'm no exception.
'And for that reason, I'm filled with joy and pride as I acknowledge the goal that puts me on top of the world's goalscoring list, overcoming Pele's record, something that I could never have dreamed of while growing up as a child from Madeira.'
Pele responded to Ronaldo's comments, posting: 'Congratulations on breaking my record of goals in official matches.
'I admire you a lot, I love watching you play and this is no secret to anyone. My only regret is not being able to give you a hug today.'
Ronaldo tally of goals include 668 at club level, including 188 for Manchester United and 450 for Real Madrid, while he has also scored 120 goals at international level for Portugal.

A four-year-old girl has been mauled to death by a pack of five stray dogs in Saudi Arabia.
It's understood the girl, identified only by her first name Shahd, was away on holiday at the time of the attack.
Witnesses described hearing her screams as the animals savaged her in the suburb of Al Washaila, some 25 kilometres (16 mi) south-west of the Saudi capital, Riyadh, on the evening of March 12.
Passers-by managed to chase away the dogs, and the girl was rushed to hospital. Due to coronavirus restrictions, her family was forced to wait outside while doctors attempted to safe her life.
Her uncle, Abdullah Hazzam Al Abd Al Salam, told local media that medics reassured him that his niece's condition was stable.
But hours later they were told the devastating news that she had died.
He said: "We rushed my niece to the nearest hospital, and we reached the hospital at around 5.30pm.
"The medical staff confirmed her condition was stable. We kept waiting outside the hospital due to Covid-19 precautionary measures, but at 7.50pm, we were informed that the girl had passed away. It was a shock to everyone."
Al Salam complained to local media that the suburb had long had a problem with stray animals and the local authorities had not done anything to address it.
He urged the authorities to cull stray dogs in the area, which is frequented by families with children on weekends.
Shahd was buried at the Al Mansouriya Cemetery on March 14.
