The officer got into trouble when she picked 300 dollars each from the luggage of her two victims when she was supposed to be searching for prohibited items prelude to their clearance for boarding the plane for takeoff.
Her two victims were said to have raised alarm after they observed that their Basic Traveling Allowance (BTA) of 800 Dollars each had run short by 300 dollars each.
Their alarm attracted the attention of other security operatives, one of who disclosed that following the incident, which occurred on Monday, the female officer was taken away and after a thorough search, the total 600 Dollars, and another sum in Nigerian currency, N1,500, was found hidden in her artificial hair over which she wore a barrette cap.
Recalling the process of the in-house investigation of the lady, the airport security source said, “At the initial stage when she was interrogated, she pretended that she didn’t commit any theft on the intending pilgrims. She insisted that nothing like money was on her.
“But to the surprise of us all at the investigation room, the said monies were traced concealed in her head covered with official barrette. There and then she became very weak, sweating all over her body in shame.”
The Yola Airport management is said to have issued a query on the erring officer which she was said to have answered before she was handed to the police for further action.
Speaking on the development, the Yola Airport Manager, Adamu Sheilk, said as a department, they had done the next best thing by forwarding the case to their corporate headquarters in Abuja for a final decision.
The spokesman of the Adamawa State Police Command, DSP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, who confirmed the development, said the affected FAAN officer was already being interrogated by the Criminal Investigation Department, after which she would be taken to court for prosecution
